Yeah, I've got one. It does what it says but a word of warning, it sits loosely when connected to the transformer. It's very handy though as I don't have a dock and so far everything I've plugged into it works well.

I just got mine today (actually 30mins ago).
Already taken it apart and are going to modify it. I dont fancy having 1dm extra height on my tablet, especially not on the underside. (edit: ok I lied, its actually only 8.3cm..... only...)
And yes, it sits quite loosely.
Im going to post a guide if my mod is successful. I am also going to try and add a charger port on it.

I don't know if it would be possible but how about adding another usb port. This would save using a USB hub to connect more than one peripheral to the transformer.

Simply adding another usb port isnt possible, you still need the hub control chip.
That would be possible to do but would require you to make a new 'case' for the adapter, and it would get quite big (relatively).

That was what I was hoping as I don't have a dock either. I wonder if you can plug a wireless keyboard/mouse adapter into it.

Anyone know of a good place I can get this from in the UK. Can't seem to find it anywhere!

Yes, you can. I tried with my set (from Acer Aspire PC) and it worked without any problems.

You can find them on ebay. Relatively expensive though.
---------- Post added at 12:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:08 PM ----------
In fact, there's one going right now, fairly cheap, but you might be bidding against me....
seller is 'buyspry'

I really miss a right-click feature when using a mouse while remote controlling a PC :/... not that that has anything to do with the adapter though.
Im not sure I should post my guide on how to add a cable to the adapter... It wasnt my best day and it turned out quite disasterous I somehow managed to kill 2 solder points so had to find alternative source lol
And I gave up on the charging port... I couldnt for the life of me figure out which pins is for charging. The ones I thought (by comparing to the original charger cable) turned out to just short-circut the TF

Let's see if I got a default USB port while without the dock, using my plain cable from TF101 attached to this usb female adapter.
Yes, I've a dock but most of the time I don't use it. I preffer use it inside a leather case which doesn't fits the dock.

Yes I know Ive already updated to that version (did it same day it was released lol)
I also like theyve added touchpad feature rather than just the "click on the item you want to open".
Makes it a lot easier to click small items.
rafael_mfr: Waste of money. Had you spent 10sec searching you would know it doesnt work.
The pins used for the USB adapter isnt even present in the default sync/charging cable, unless youre DAMN good at soldering and can solder cables on pins the size of 0.01mm with 0.01mm spacing.

Eee Pad USB Cable

I tried to find a spare USB cable for the Eee Pad and no luck. It makes me nervous to have a proprietary format cable without a spare.
Considering how difficult is to the get an Eee Pad, I wonder how to get the cable...
Thanks!

Just wait a little bit, the galaxy tab also had a proprietary plug and now ebay is flooded with adapter/plug/charger, i guess we will see more accessories when stock will be easily available...
You are right. Things always how up once the supply gets going... I wish they did not have a proprietary cable. I understand why they did it but...
I'm a little disappointed they didn't just use MicroUSB.... then and again, I don't think any of the tablets on the market currently do?

An OEM that releases a device that uses a proprietary cable to supply the device with power IMHO has a responsibility to see to it that customers can readily purchase replacement cables. People do lose/break things and without a way to charge the TF it's an expensive paper weight. I hope Asus is listening & will rectify this situation quickly, I'd love to purchase a backup cable.
I would like to have another one so I can have one at home and one at work. I forgot the cable at home today and now can't connect it to my computer here at work.

Problem with the galaxy tab is it uses a connector that is very similar to Apples connector except that the pin backplane is reversed, which wouldn't be hard to change for manufacturers of non-licensed Apple connectors
http://fatmixx.com/tag/pdmi/
While Asus's cable connector is probably made in house and proprietary
so who knows how long it will take for others to make knockoffs of the connectors
It would have been nice if Asus included a micousb connector on the transformer at least for charging and data sync
I created a folder on my Windows PC desktop and 'shared' it, then in ES Lan added a new server using the IP address of my PC.

Definitely hoping they'll release the official cables soon or allow 3rd party to make them. Kinda sucks when my cable broke and no other ways to charge the darn thing.

Thats what i thought too, but i need to charge it in my car, and it wont charge with any of my cigarette lighter USB chargers because it uses the damn special charger from Asus
Either i wait for a car charger or just buy another charging pack and hook it up to a power inverter in my car
I really wish they would have just used a standard USB connector instead of a USB 3.0 one

I cannot buy RAZR dock, so I just build one.

My country lies to the east of Europe, we have access to a cool phones, but the additional components like HD dock with three USB ports, are not for us.
Thx to XDA and info found here I managed to build a working dock for motorola razr. I used pass-through micro HDMI - HDMI, cheapest USB Hub and micro USB cable with thin wire connecting 4 and 5 pin.
Motorola really should change the sales system.

So you have easy way to fix that. Buy cheap USB hub, dismantle dock, cut holes for additional ports and solder few cables. Do nothing with HDMI.
And download NEBTOP app.
Same thing here, i cant buy dock but now how i saw this i want to build my own dock station ^^ i have only a hdmi cable by the motorola yet because i dont know how can i enable the webtop, so my question : if i buy an otg, hub and the y cable
and try to make something like this it'll enable the webtop or i need the nebtop?
and if i need nebtop it will work with the ICS's kernel?
Thank you, and sorry for my poor english
you need nebtop

Micro USB Charger Cable that fits

I am looking for a Micro USB Charger cable that actually fits. I have numerous charger cables but the head on all the cables I have are a little too fat. The door that protects the port is constantly in the way. I have included a picture of it.

One of them is a logitech. The other is just a generic cable. I will check out monoprice and a few others. I had a bunch of leftover cables and I may need to shop around to find one.
EDIT: Found a Monoprice one that fits. I believe that most from monoprice will fit easily. Going to order a couple.
The hats wrong with the one that came bundled with the tablet? No issues here.
I had tryout 4 USB cable, 3 out of it fit nicely. The only not fit is newer Samsung cable which too fat in general.

I never noticed, does the supplied USB cable fit perfectly?
I am using a kindle white cable and the sony supplid plug to charge my Tablet Z, but the cable end is about 1mm too wide. I too will be looking for another cable ideally 1.5 metres long, any ideas? (UK)
Does it matter what brand of cable you use to get the best charge, is the plug amperage the only important factor?
I also find the supplied micro usb cable to be way too short. Would a USB extension cable work?

Yes. Maximum length for a USB 2.0 cable is 16 feet (5 meters); however, for reliability, I would not use a cable length over 10 feet (3 meters).

The brand doesn't really matter so much as knowing it is a good quality cable, you don't want some el cheapo half-assed cable that burns your charging port up.
The stock charger fits perfectly as do my Note 2 and old Moto RAZR cords.
I've recently ordered some Fosmon cords that are 6 feet long and should be here in the next couple of days, hopefully they'll work with the XTZ. I'll post some feedback when I get a chance to test them.

[Q] MyDOG ateMY charger...just the$80 piece!

So my dog ate my charger a few days back, and just the piece that clips in to the tablet s charge port. The charger is $80 on amazon and $70-110 many other sites. They just don't have chargers that aren't with a tablet a as well online. There are no used chargers for a tablet a on craigslist lol I wish....$5 fresh off the truck . So as I don't want to resort to buying another charger I tried utilizing the tablet s mini USB port on the side near the memory card slot with a mini USB regular android charger and also checked if it could and would work in the forums and it did not....
So my question is can I take those two wires (black and white) in the pic and kinda lay them anywhere specific in the charge port on my tablet s or cut the back and place them anywhere special? Any tech savvy advice would Be helpful or a plain no so I have to suck it up an go buy one although I'm just missing that magical diamond played $80 tip that make it unique to Sony . Arghhhhhghhg

Actually, it is the second and third.
Sorry if I was wrong. I left my charger attatched for a very a long time and noticed build up on those two I mentioned. Like you would see on a car battery. I figured those would be it. Not very smart for sony to put it on 2nd and 3rd, Ive noticed the clips tend to bend on the charger easily. Sorry again.

Thanks for that, I didn't see that printed on the back of the charger! My dog did a similar thing last summer, the end completely vanished. Didn't bother getting a new one at the time (about £20) and have just realised that the price has sky rocketed.
I bought a used SGPDS1 cradle on ebay for £20 and intend to modify it to become my new charger
To take it apart, the rear stand slides up fully with a firm push (careful, there are two silver plastic tabs to gently unclick underneath)
There are then 4 screws to undo and a plastic cover comes off the back of the main cradle to expose the wiring loom.
I want to connect a fly lead to the wiring loom and attach my end-less charger to it.
Before I do this, can a kind soul confirm that the outer two contacts are not connected? Inside the cradle, all the wires are connected, and the middle white connection breaks out into two connections
I am guessing the white wires are positive (connection 2 from left) and the black negative.
I have attached a few photos.
TIA
Mark

After having procured a new charger, I have found that the first pin (from the cable end) is connected to the centre wire and the second pin is connected to the outer cable.
This charges the tablet perfectly when I touch the pads on the bottom of the tablet with the bare wires!

USB 3 Port Review

Update The note 3 only supports USB 2. I am unable to update the title.
I was asked to review a new product. When I first received it, I was basically meh on it and thought, yippy another usb hub. Then I opened the box and was quite surprised. The Inateck hb4008 is impressive. You get 3 usb 3.0 ports, but something was quite handy for my laptop use was the the SD Card Reader. It simplified a multi-step process into 1. I used to have to unplug a device, and then pull out the sdcard reader and plug it in, wait for windows to officially detect it then copy my pictures and other media to/from the card. I now use this device 100% of the time and it has given me more ports and saved me quite a bit of time.
So, why am I posting this to a Samsung thread? The other VERY cool thing this has allowed me to do is take the OTG adapter and plug right into my Note 3 or my wifes S4 and get a keyboard and mouse, plus I could use the card reader too. I am writing this entire review using my note 3, with usb keyboard and mouse via this device.
I was going to post pictures but to be honest, they were not the best and there are much better ones on Amazon. I just looked and its 50% off right now, quite a good deal if you ask me.

Kinda surprised no one has said anything about this. I think this ia a pretty cool accessory and this maybe one of the toys I get in the near future.

I been using it all weekend so far and really do like this. Mainly with my phone.
Might grab one to use for my n7 and my surface pro 3. Thanks for the info!

I figured I would add a quick pic with a penny to show just how small it is.

ok, but it does not seem possible to use the usb port 3 of the note3 but simply as a USB2 port, I see the mini usb connector in the picture.
Someone needs to make one with mhl built in..

Yes indeed, i think for USB 3.0, it needs that extra oomph, hence the extra (integrated) interface in the 3.0 female port in our phones. Shouldn't a cable match the port for 100% USB 3.0?

In fact, looking at the picture you can imagine that is a simple usb 2, at this point I prefer the dock-station.
imo the usb 3 feature is useless, if you gonna use it with you smartphone only, because of the connector. an usb 2.0 hub would do exactly the same thing. but if you wanna use the increased speed, you will need an usb 3.0 otg cable.

I think this is an important comment , the title of the post "usb 3 port review" could be inaccurate
OP updated to reflect the USB2/3 comments.
