Good bye Drop Box

Mine said "Not ready yet".

if u sign up on the website it asks you to download google docs then takes u to drive
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

Mine also says that it is not ready yet.

Pardon my ignorance, but what makes google drive better than my Dropbox account with 16gbs?

Nothing really. Unless you have a burning desire to put everything under your Google account.
At this time, Dropbox is actually a better solution as a lot of third-party applications already work with it. Until Google Drive functionality is adopted by these apps, Google Drive is of little value to me.

I agree. Unless it has some amazing new integration with Android, i'll just stick with Dropbox. It already works so well with android, plus the new auto-upload feature. Not seeing any reason to switch.

Microsoft sky drive is better too since it has same desktop app like drop box that syncs everything and you get to keep 25 gigs if you signed up for it originally otherwise 7 gigs.

I've got a buddy at work that's a hardcore Windows Mobile fanboy and has raved about the Sky Drive. Does it integrate with Android though? I couldn't find a way when i looked into it a few months back.

I agree with you about sky drive, but correct me if I'm wrong, it does not support android or has an android app.

No, but with lte through Web browser it's not so bad.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2

Here you go guys. This is the comparison chart, and its confirmed sky drive does not supported android.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/skydrive/compare

o yes just so you know google has a sync app for windows just like dropbox and skydrive.

I agree with above. When and if Google drive receives the same leave of 3rd party support, then I'll leave drop box. Google drive reminds me of the hacked app gdrive from back in the day that took advantage of a JavaScript bug in gmail and let u use it as a personal online storage

Google Docs has been around for a while, you have a 2gb limit. It was said to be Gdrive back when it came out. I guess they redirect you there to the meantime, until Gdrive is opened up to all.

Google docs is now google drive. Its updated to 5gb. Also has a pc app that functions like dropbox.

cant download zip files to phone yet though.... although apks work...

It's taking a long time for Google to prepare my Google drive. I'm on the grandfathered 20gb plans not sure if that's delaying the activation.
Update: Lol 1 min after my post Google emailed me my drive is ready. Took around 12 hours from initial request.

5GB FREE w/ Dropbox (HTC Sense 3.5 Devices ONLY)

Hey Everyone,
Im not sure if anyone knows or even remembers hearing this, So I figured i'd let everyone know, Cause I myself had no clue. Doing some searching for 3.5 Skins I came across an article that states ALL Sense 3.5 Devices will be offered 5GB Free on Dropbox, Not sure about anyone else but I use DB all the time. All I did was downloaded the app from the market, Opened it up and signed in. About 3-4mins later I got the email confirm that i was given 3GB for free, which took me right up to 5GB. Not bad at all. This will be given to anyone, even if you dont have an account. So thats it, very simple. Just figured i'd share with anyone who wasnt aware....ENJOY!!!
JOn
I currently had.a.dropbox and didn't sign up, and it added 3 gigs to mine...for 12 months. Kinda stupid they take it away lol

I didn't get the e-mail with mine? I installed the app right when got the phone Monday morning.
I restored my DB via Ti, and when I just opened the app, I got the email saying I can get the free 3GB by going to some DB website. But it's not automatic and it looks like I need to complete some sort of BS "quest" to get the space. Whatever, I don't use it anyways, I just have it in case it ever becomes useful for me. I just use FTP for most transfer needs.
Still no luck... Signed in, or not.
Really? Man all I did was sign in. Actually I signed In thru the browser. Literally 5mins layer I got the email. Sign In thru yur browser and see if it give you any prompts to get the extra space. Worth a shot
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
Just signed in with the HTC Browser, so let's see.
I just go the email, it's their whole "getting started" thing where they pretty much want you to install drop box clients on every device you own.
I now have 5.5GB for free. Too bad I never really use dropbox because i have sftp/ssh setup on my linux box.
I have had Dropbox for a while, maybe this is why. I still haven't gotten an e-mail.
Thanks, 3GB extra credited today, my email had gone unread for a few weeks but was still okay to click and get the extra. I have the HTC HD2 with windows 6.5 and bootable Android on my SD card.
Thanks for the heads up as well though I'm late. Got my extra 3gigs today. Will come in real handy....
Just got my 3GB! Thanks
I know that we can't post wares here, but if you google it, they have a hacked APK where you get 23 gigs fo free. It was in general for a while, and got removed from xda.

HTC and dropbox said they were cracking down on that and would remove the storage from anyone who used it also just use a sense 4 rom that should do the trick without it being noticed by HTC

BOX gives 50 GB to Touchpad

You just need to load the Touchpad into webOS download it from the webOS store and make a new account and you should have 50 GB! Then just boot back into Android, download the app and you're good!
This has been there from the time Touchpad came out in Apr 2011
A year or two late bud. Plus it is offered to anyone who makes an account.
Sent from my R800x using XDA
as long as you sign up from your mobile you get 50gb
Yeah you need not create a new account. Just login from the webOS app and bammmm you have 50gb

I get a lot of use out of my Box account. Great for keeping pictures available on all my mobile devices.

[Q] Dropbox doesn't have the advertised extra 25gb...

I suspect this is from changing ROMs?
I have added dropbox via the setup tool on the evo lte...
what do?
I got my extra 25 gb. Doubt it has anything to do with switching Roms. But I signed in on my evo when it was stock. Then about maybe 20mins later I got a email telling me it was available
Login dropbox online and see what your account says.

You have to take few extra steps to get the extra space. You may want to check your email.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I got mine.. try going through the 'Setup' app and adding your dropbox account through there. Maybe if you just sign in on the app itself it won't do it? I don't remember how I did it now but I know it didn't take long for the extra space to get on there.
You have to get a link in your email and go through dropboxs setup steps.
Flashing roms hasn't changed mine

Had the same problem , had to go thru customer support. After about four mails back & forth they gave it to me. Pain in the ass.
According to HTC website, you have to access dropbox, and sign in from your phones BROWSER.
This worked for me. I signed in via the browser, and then I clicked a few thinks. I believe going through the getting started part on my phone browser granted me the extra 25 gb. This work for me and my fiancee.
Hope that helps.
just signed in on my phone (nothing else) and 10seconds later, got the message saying i got the 25.8gb of drop box storage.
OP here,
I found the email in my inbox about completing the neccessary steps for the additional space. It was like,
install on a computer
upload something
install on another computer
log in on a mobile device
other things
But still not showing. I will fiddle with it tonight at home.
I got it. Had to complete about 6 things before I was rewarded my space. I have a total of 28gb just by doing things it wanted me to (refferals and such) yay!
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Yeah they make you jump through hoops for it, but you can "earn" it quite easily.

If you sign in online you can get the 25 gb from there. You have to follow the steps or you'll just get the minimum amount that is free.
after you follow the prompts use the dropbox app to browse around or upload something and the space will show up

23GB extra Dropbox storage

My account just got upgrade with 23 GB of free storage thanks to my new Dinc4G!
Did you do something special? I have not seen the same upgrade?
Thanks
Ya i don't have a Dropbox account atm, but if i could get an extra 23 gig i'd certainly sign up! Tell us your secrets!

Nothing special, just got an email saying I had been upgraded for 2 years due to my new HTC phone.

Just sign in on setup to dropbox for HTC sense.
Sent from my KangBang'd out vivow
I was gonna check it out just for kicks, but i don't have a dropbox sign in during setup, nor are there any apps pre-installed. I found /system/apps/HTCdropboxGLRPlugin but it doesn't run or bring up any kind of setup.
I could just goto the play store and grab the app i'm sure, but from the sound of it you have to use the sense dropbox to get the deal? I'll probably just go create an account on the main site anyways. Storage is good to have even though i use google drive.
Void4ever
Ok, then download the app, go to system settings, accounts and sync, click dropbox and it should be there.

I think we can assume it will simply drop down to the default value and you will loose everything on there, I think we can also assume you will get warnings from dropbox prior to this informing you it is going to happen. To keep you're 50 gig you'll have to start paying.
I am guessing you either pay or lose it, up to you.
I wouldn't worry about it just now, because people's data is valuable I would imagine dropbox will email when it's going to end, so you can transfer files to your PC.
Also because the files are synced across devices they will be in your phone and PC (if you have dropbox installed) so they should be safe.
They will not be allowed to delete your data without your saying.
You can still use the space just can't add anymore.

Do you have your only copy at dropbox? Nahhh, it syncs your local storage right?
So you always have one copy locally.

You can set it to sync or not, I sync as I don't use it that much.
hope they allow use to keep the 50GB if nt more then 10 millon ppl is going to complain
In 2 years 50gb will be nothing special. So they will probably let you just keep using it and offer something bigger and better like 1TB or 10TB for small payment.
Remember when gmail was announced with 1GB storage? Everyone could not believe that they will give away all that space for free. How times changed.
As far as I'm aware, whatever of the space you have used will remain until you remove any items from Dropbox. As you remove stuff, the 50Gb will drop accordingly. Don't quote me on that, but I'm sure I read that somewhere!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Account space will freeze u wont be able to upload unless you pay monthly or whatever and wont be able to share those uploaded links but only account holder can download their own stuff.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
For sure, dropbox will not delete ur data. Maybe just unlink ur fone from ur account, and keep ur data synced on ur pc. THAT'S INCASE they consider losing their customers.

By then Skynet would have taken over and cloud storage would be the last of your worries.
They l warn you b4 its getting over...
You can still use the stored data, but add nothing more until you remove the files taking the added space.
But isn't there a max time for your things to be stored? Like after five years of inactivity everything will be deleted?

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much. The world is supposed to end by December 2012 and you'll still have 1.5 years left on you Dropbox storage. So, it's all good! :good:
