I used the same trick as before to get free tethering. (T-Mobile)
1) Go to settings
2) Go to Mobile Network (tap on the name, not the switch)
3) Go to Access Point Names
4) Add a new APN using epc.tmobile.com
5) Name it anything you want
6) Free wifi tethering!

Well That Worked Perfect. THANK YOU!
Mine already has a T-Mobile Data setting with the APN = to epc.tmobile.com
is that normal, or does another one need to be created?

Create another one. I called mine Hotspot Data. Once you do, you can delete the old T-Mobile Data. If you don't delete it, I think it'll default to the T-Mobile Data one every time you restart your phone. It's not a big problem, you'll just have to manually change it to Hotspot Data every time you want to use hotspot. I see no point in keeping the T-Mobile Data because the new one you create does the same thing.
can someone help me? so what i understand is, you make the same exact apn with the t-mobile apn, but with different name? is that all?

Yes. Then delete the old one. The new one won't have the authentication settings and it seems that trying to edit the old/default APN won't work right now.

What do you mean by free tethering? So if I have limited mobile data network of 2GB this tethering won't affect my data usage at all?

No. It means that service that is normally 15 bucks a month will now cost you nothing. This still uses your data and you still cant use more than your data limits without being throttled.
I'm getting cut off after about 200 megs. This happening to anyone else?
Im currently using the mikes ICS rom. There is no option to delete the apn =/
Can't delete old apn setting
I tried to delete the old apn (tmobile data) but I couldn't. There's a lock on the upper left if icon. I tried going into the settings itself to try and delete but I couldn't.
I'm sorry if I sound stupid,. I'm new at this.

I found this article on CNET and found it to be useful.
http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39...g-on-the-htc-thunderbolt-for-battery-savings/
Many people don't really need 4G on all the time, particularly if you're in an area where 4G isn't available.
1. From the dialer, dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Select Phone Info
3. Scroll down to "set preferred network type"
4. Set it to "CDMA auto (PRL)"
If you want to turn 4G back on, repeat the above steps, but on step 4, choose "CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto".
According to the article, some people have reported massive battery life gains, which we all could use on the Thunderbolt.
Hey, that doesn't work on my tbolt...oh, wait, I have a toggle in my notification widget (or in my power widget)
There are a few apps that will do this for you on the market as well. The basically just create a shortcut to the menu.
Note: If you're on a CM7 based rom, your preferred network will probably read as "Unknown". Leave it and if you want to mess with it use the widgets or the "Mobile Networks" section in Settings->Wireless & networks.
Woops... I probably should've specified that this works on Sense based Roms.

Not on mine! I have this kickass app called Android Psychic that reads my mind!
There have been many questions about setting up Google Voice properly since Sprint and Google attempted to merge the Google Voice settings for phone numbers/voicemail. Even if you have already merged your numbers, you can separate them and use them as different lines when calling people. Follow these instructions.
Note: For those that have already merged your number, (By accident or you just want to change it back) you need to complete steps 1 & 2 before proceeding at all.
Uninstall Google Voice from your phone.
Login to Google Voice and go to settings.

Click "Disable Google Voice on your Sprint phone"
Note: Mine says "Enable Google Voice on your Sprint phone." If yours does not say "Disable Google Voice on your Sprint phone" then skip this step and continue on.
Install Google Voice on your phone.
Open Google Voice, but do not tap or touch any buttons. You will see the main screen. If need be, scroll to the bottom if you do not see the "Skip" button immediately.
Sign into Google Voice with your Gmail account.
Give Google Voice Access and tap "Next"
Select the option that best suits you. Then tap "Next" twice.
I choose, "Only use Google Voice for international calls" because I can use my unlimited Mobile to Mobile minutes.
Tap the number beginning in *28 and after the call, press the back button, then tap "Configure" to continue.
Note: Dialing the number does not result in a voice call to anyone. It just dials a system to update.
Select "Google Voice" then press back.
Note: If you get a notice, just select "OK" and then hit the back button to get back to Google Voice setup.
Press "Skip" then "Finish"
Note: Now we are done with the phone.
Go back to settings.
Note: If you get any additional popups here just click OK/Done to dismiss them.
Click on "Activate Google voicemail on this phone."
Note: Mine says "Deactivate Google voicemail on this phone" because I have already activated it.
All Done!

Is that actually steps 1 through 3, or really just steps 1 and 2?
And doesn't everyone need to complete Step 1 anyway, and step 2 to check whether they've merged their number or not?

After the call completes, I automatically return back to the screen where I tapped the *28 number without needing to press anything. There is a "Configure" button on this screen. If I tap the onscreen back button, I go back to the "Set up voicemail" screen, which doesn't seem right.
If I ignore the instruction to press the back button, this seems to work OK.

Here I get a popup asking me to call the same *28(my Google Voice number) number that appeared on the screen on my phone in Step 9.
Did you leave out a step, or does the fact that I got that popup mean something went wrong? Or is it the popup you said to ignore?

Mine says that, too, but I'm not so sure I'm done.
After doing all this, when I call my Sprint number, I get my usual Sprint voicemail box. When I call my Google Voice number, I get my usual Google Voice voicemail box. I can't see that doing all this has actually accomplished anything at all.
Hi! Here are some profiles for the paid app Tasker which switch your phone to mixed(2g/3g) mode automatically if you turn data connections on, and turn to 2g only if data is off.
Prerequisites:
-semcphone.apk which enable network mode switching, Many systemui mods contain this file, an example is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30409030&postcount=131
-root
-Tasker installed, basic knowledge of the app.
Install:
Extract and copy files from attachment to sdcard/Tasker/Profiles. Import profiles into tasker.
Test app by toggling data connection (by widget or in notification bar)
Tested in stock 587 ICS.
As a bonus the phone will boot with 2g only setting if you have data connections disabled, so the network setting bug in ICS is fixed with this mod also.
Thanks, but can this be done on CM10?

Can you explain how to make tasker switch between 2g and 3g?
I found your thread because I can't get tasker switch mobile data 2g/3g i.e. New task->Add action->Net->Mobile Data 2G/3G. It says 'Sorry, that action is unavailable on this device'.

Is there any chance anyone has the SmecPhone.apk that toggles 2G/3G (or Phone.apk, i think is the same) for JB 4.1.2? I'm also on stock ROM and locked bootloader, and would love this function available in my Tasker app. The one provided here is for ICS.

Hi, I solved it by overriding the script to the values found on the internet (Network mode 1 = 2G / 3G 2 = / = 0L 2G/3G pref), thanks for the script.
Can anyone confirm if this works on kitkat and if so where to find a working apk for it? Will this work on other devices? Tasker has 2g/3g switching but it only works under cyanogenmod based roms...all the stock rom's on my devices show the feature as unavailable so I'm trying to find an alternative. This looks like it would do the job...guess I'll just have to try it and see.
I'm not sure I understand the breakdown in previous post since it's all ran together....can you clarify the 2g/3g preferred and 3g only modes?

Also if you are on V2.0 and have never used a ICS rom before, the toggles are accessed by pulling down the status bar and then pressing the little blue icon in the top left corner that looks like 3 old analog sliders for a sound board.

That is a good idea. But the shortcuts it creates from applications are not in sync with the main application.
I'd suggest looking at an app called shortcut maker. It has all the solutions to your shortcuts problem.

There just isn't a way my friend. Not to that specific part of the menu. That thread of the settings doesn't have its own activity.
The mother activity is
com.android.settings.Settings$WirelessSettingsActivity
And this is the closest you can get to that particular setting.
What I usually do is...using Modes and Routines....on a second home page....I add One manual routine for each mobile network connection type.
It isn't ideal....but it does work.

Here is how I do it.
Made a second page on your home screen.
This is optional.
Go to Modes And Routines.
Tap the "+" icon in the top right.
Tap the "+" under "If"
Tap "Start manually"
Tap the "+" under Then.
Tap "Connections"
Tap "Network mode"
A menu will pop up. Tap one. EG "2G only"
Now...under "When routine ends"
Tap "Reverse actions"
Toggle the top "On" toggle off.
(This is very important...because this makes the whole routin a switch a opposed to a toggle)
Tap "Save"
At the top tap "Network Mode" and rename it to what mode you chose for this switch.
Give it an icon...if you wish.
Now...depending on your launcher...you'll be asked to place a widget. Place it in your home screen.
Now...repeat...but swapping 2g to 3g....and so on.

I know my way is long winded...but you do it once...and as long as you cancel the reverse action of each routine....you end up with a button you can tap to swap it to the network type you wish.
If you leave the reverse action...you end up with lots of routines "on" and the switching doesn't work.
