i want to send international sms.... is there any app that can send free international sms to any country from any country? thanks in advance.
Well depending on what phone plan you're on, it might charge you. But one free app that I know of that allows you to send texts internationally is Viber. Keep in mind the receiver of the text also needs Viber installed as well. I believe there are other apps like Viber that you can send free SMS internationally, but the receiver would still need that certain app installed as well to receive it.
I was going to recommend Google Voice, but it doesn't appear that it works internationally. You may need to find an app for each region you're wanting to text to.
Further, you could just set up gmail accounts with push, and use that. Most carriers have email->text addresses like [email protected] or some such.
whatsapp is the best app for u

Hello I am on T-mobile using TP2..US cellular version.
My plan is the $15 unlimited text and $.10/minute. NO DATA
Previously on my motorola ZN5(as most T-mobile non smartphones I believe) there is an Email/IM App. If you send an email or IM through this app it counts as a sms, no data required.
The IM is especially important to me because I know ones in South America that can only pay to access the internet for 5-15mins every couple of days to chat. With my previous Phone I could stay logged into my windows live account and so when they logged in I could chat with them. All of this being sms based, and no data or wifi necessary.
However on the TP2 it wants to access through Data only. Although there is a code which lets you send a short sms based email, and I believe IM as well...it does not allow you to receive messages or be Logged into the services to actually chat with the person.
I know there has to be a Tmobile app out there, or a 3rd party that enables this but I have searched for days and can only find data based Email/IM apps.
Any help would be great.
Michael
Anyone knows a way or app, to send texts but can then hide or change my number, as i wana send some texts, but don't want my ex to know the number or talk to her, so prefer texting her?
Without giving the number I assume you don't need a response so most phone companies have a email to sms service. Good for sending a message without a response.
Or if you need two way conversation just use textplus from the market and create a free throwaway account.

Cheers bud, unfortunatly textplus is only for the states am in UK.
My bad, I read the words "anywhere in the world" but missed that that part was only app to app.
real simple guys, i can't find a straight answer. i want an app (with any luck free, and not as much nonsense as porting numbers w/ gv) that will allow me to send sms via data/wifi from MY NUMBER that all my contacts already have. using my number is an issue for me, since i am active duty military. they have had the same number for me for years, and lord knows (sarcasm + eyeroll) if they can't get a hold of me for whatever reason all hell will break loose. i'm hoping to lose my $20 text plan though.
I don't understand. you want to use your number, or you can't use your number? you have 2 numbers? you want to send form another number, and your contacts will see your number?
Do you want app to send sms to all your contacts, but using internet connection? you don't want to pay for each sms to your dialers, right?
Do I undestand you clear?

Exactly. I only have one number. A lot of apps will send sms over data, like Google voice, but just like voice they will give you a new number. I don't want a new number. I've had the same number for years. And I want to not pay for texts. But texting is almost mandatory. My baby sitter, ex wife, and about 20 junior troops all send me texts on a regular basis.
try jaxtrsms.
I don't try it, but it's seems ok.

Also something I'm trying to avoid, this and many other apps only work with other people with the app. I want to be able to text anyone in my phonebook regardless of their phone model or apps they use.
I might be wrong, but i think it's impossible, to fullfill all your requests
You would like to have free sms/mms, without an app on receivers phone and without changed phone number (which is happening when using sms-gates).

Not so much free, just sent over wifi/data, which I'm still paying for. I just don't want to pay for a text plan.
I'm a UK Three customer using Omega 9.1 ROM (FW: XXBLG1 Modem:XXLFB CSC:H3GALE4).
I work a lot offshore, way out at sea so obviously no mobile connection whatsoever for weeks however we do have a small bandwidth internet connection on the ship.
There seems to masses of apps for being able to receive and send SMS messages via the internet but many seem country specific. I don't want anything too fancy just the ability to use text messages (and preferably free???). Ideally being able to retrieve my voice messages would be awesome as normally when I get home from 4 weeks at sea I have loads and loads of voice messages (I should change my answerphone message before I leave to "Please don't leave a message as I am at sea" but I always forget)
Can anyone recommend a good way of doing this please? I understand that HandcentSMS may have this feature but their website made it look a bit overkill for my needs.
Thanks in advance
Could possibly suggest you using Whatsapp, its free from the Google Play Store and you can send messages, pictures, videos and even recorded voices messages to other whatsapp users completely free over an internet connection.
It would mean that the people who want to contact you would also need to have the Whatsapp app on there phone but it can be downloaded on Apple devices, Blackberry, Android and on newer nokia devices aswell.
I understand this may not be a perfect solution and maybe some of the people you want to contact cant have Whatsapp on there phone but it could really help with those who can.
Hope this helps
Tnanks for that. Certainly a part way solution and I guess the messages I am referring to involve close colleagues, friends and family so I'll see if we can try this route as a group.
Out of interest someone who I worked with mentioned Google Talk but as far as I have read/searched this is just a "chat/instant message" application. Surely it doesn't access my SMS messages? As far as I assume, SMS messages go through my network provider(??). The issue I really want to surmount is just to be able to receive my SMS messages when I am at sea for weeks on end. It really is frustrating getting to within sight of land (normally Aberdeen) and as soon as I get mobile reception a million and one messages start pinging in some of which were sent weeks ago.
Check out textplus. May be worth a look.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

What do you guys believe are some of the best free calling/SMS apps for android. Only ones that go over the internet, but reach any phone without needing the app installed on the other phone.
So not like Skype etc, but like groove ip, and dingaling. I need it to be free, (excluding data charges of course), and to be able to make calls/texts from Australia to Australia. I don't mind if you suggest two separate apps.
The reason I would like this is I am considering getting a tablet data plan for my phone, and just doing everything over the internet.
Thanks for the help!

Viber or WhatsApp
But i prefer viber.
There's also: BBM (but it's laggy )
Free sms would be like @MihailoZoric
Whatsapp, Viber, telegram , we chat , line,
There is no exclusive "free" calling app
Hangouts can call other users but they charge after 1st minute at different rates.
You will need play stre credit
Same thing with viber, skype and other calling apps.
Thanks for your replies, but I was looking for apps that can call/text phones without the app both people having the app, eg dumbphones and landlines.

Hangouts ,skype and others can call landlines and dumbphones. Except you have to pay for calling to landlines and dumbphones. If you want free communication then you need to have app installed.

Yeah, I'm looking for something that gives me free calls to landlines and dumbphones. I have found apps, but they were mostly US only. That's why I'm asking for suggestions.
Bump
Set up a Google Voice account and download hangouts & hangouts dialer. In the hangouts settings menu check voice and text options. Verify you have linked the apps by going to the Google Voice app settings & there should be a new notification indicating you have successfully paired the apps. Now you can call and text free over WiFi via Hangouts Dialer
