Okay my problem is I'm not sure what format I need to use when entering my Message Center Number in CM9 I know how to get to the section to change my number by dialing *#*#4636#*#* then I choose the section for SMSC enter in my message number which is +13123149810 then I press update and I get "update error" I believe I remember something about the number has to be in a different format when using CM Roms.
The problem is I can receive incoming text but I can not send outbound texts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dennis
Same problem
I have the same problem.
I flashed insanity iii (CM9 based ROM) on my Galaxy S3 recently and since have been able to receive texts but not been able to send them.
I used the number code, then went into Phone info tab.
Here I find that there is no SMSC number filled in, but when I try to Refresh or manually enter the Vodafone AU number I get Refresh/Update Error respectively.
I will keep trying for a while and post anything I find here.
EDIT: I found a solution at a Galaxy Nexus baseband & radio dump thread user efrant linked this wiki page in response to a similar problem with texting.
Basically, go here & follow instructions
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/SMSC_Updates
then go here:
http://www.twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode
and make sure you use only the first 16 digits of the code you get as the number in the SMSC field.
EDIT2: Oh, and make sure to thank efrant in the Galaxy Nexus post. c;
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Glad you got it corrected. For anyone else that encounters this in the future, here is a list of a ton of SMS message center numbers (multiple ones per carrier). It's a good thing to have bookmarked because I've experienced the same issue before and it seems to be rom related.
Sweet list, bookmarked for sure.
The problem seemed to be that CM only accepts the SMSC number as a hexadecimal PDU code, so make sure to convert the normal SMSC number using the website above.

Hi guys, I am very proud of my new xda, however I could not identify who sent me the sms messages since it does not show the senders names unlike other mobile phones, we cant search by phone numbers too I live in the Philippines where sms is part of our lives! Please help me Thanks in advance
Download the cab-file from the following link, copy it onto your XDA and execute (doubble-click) it. That's all
http://www.mywirelessoffice.com/xda/sms_fix.cab
there is a free utility from paragon software to show names on sms, however it works only for the list view && received sms
take a look at penreader.com, it's lying there somewhere
ROKO: is it the same? mine is called sms_names.ppc.arm.cab I think, does it fix sent items etc...?
thank you very muchb
thanks so much guys, now im super happy with my xda, if only they made it a tri band phone so we can also use it in the us, anyways I very happy now, thanks again guys

I don't know. You could compare the two by looking into the cab files using WinZip. I wouldn't worry too much about it, there are more way's of doing the same thing.

That's funny, I was wondering why I was getting more traffic on that site lately...
The copy I have may not be the most current, though it does seem to work fine. It was not an official release. I can't recall the URL for the official release, but I know you can find it in Google.

Hi, I've followed this subject word for word, but my XDA keeps telling me theres no file associated with the three files you get when you unzip the downloaded file?? can you help?
Ok, so I'm asking for a friend, but he has 1 contact and 2 numbers. the first says mobile and the 2nd says work. When you click on the first number, it dials but when you click on the 2nd, it gives you options to edit or open in message and won't dial.
Whats wrong? Does he need to update or something? Or did he input the number in wrong? I asked to see what firmware but he didn't know. I plan on getting the phone the next day to help see if I can solve the issue but figured I'd throw it out there. advice? suggestions?
Here it works using the default phonebook.
Sent from my x32 using the licking write method....man I am thirsty now!
most likely the field it self is not set as "phone". It might be as an "email". just copy the number & create a new field and use the "phone" fields and just paste it. it should work
Well the problem is that call logs show send/receive text messages.
I was searching for a fix to the call logs annoyance and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853177
My question is, could that work in the Vibrant or is there anything available
to fix the call logs so it doesn't include text messages?

Go into your call log and hit the menu button. Then click view by and then see what is checked? I've got all logs, but it does not include any text messages. Hopefully that will remove them.
Also, I know I've seen others ask this question as well. If my suggestion does not work you may have to do a search and see if it comes up are go back 4 or more pages or so. Good luck.

Do a search on this patch and see if anyone with a Vibrant used this method, this really is a Epic patch, and that phone is not that similar to the Vibrant.
eury, your link from the epic forum led me to the fix for the vibrant: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989304

If you got the contact saved in phonebook, then you can create new SMS to that contact and it will be send.
It's because you send SMS first without prefix, then receive SMS with prefix and the number in thread gets overwritten from nonprefix to prefix.
If you have prefix in sms center number in settings, remove it.
thank you for your reply yeah i thought that myself when the first one sent then the next one didnt i thought i wonder if its adding the prefix back on with the next message thanks for your reply i will remove the prefix in the centre number. i was in 2 minds as to do that but now i have a second opinion i will try it thanks bro for your reply
Jonny,
I had the same problem as you with this ROM (on Virgin) and nothing I did would make SMS's send - either new, or replies.
I have now installed Aeroflyluby's VDG Mango 8107 and with that ROM, sometimes I can send SMS - but it is not consistent AND GPS works on that ROM (it doesn't work for me on Miro's ROM).
HOWEVER, on VDG Mango 8107, I find it impossible to set the SMS Message Centre - when I fill in the number and hit "save" as the phone either hangs or the Message Centre number remains blank. On this ROM, I have also tried using the HTC Connection setup (which works fine on Miro's ROM's) but it complains that it's database is empty.
So, here is a very long shot. Check out HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone\CallIDMatch - which should be a dword. I think that you might find in Miro's ROM it is set to 7, but for the UK we need it set to 10 (to match the last 10 digits of a mobile or landline number).
On the VDG Mango 8107 ROM, this key doesn't exist - and I don't have permissions to create it - but if it is already there, you should be OK to change it.
Good luck!
thanks for your reply im not sure about fiddling with the registry. back in wm6.5 i was always making a mess of the registry but, i must admit i made some really good tweaks with editing the registry, but, in wp7 id rather leave it up to the experts on that one as i have never owned a wp7 phone before so im not sure how things will react.
thanks for your input tho , much appreciated
Hi Everyone
This is a semi-fix for the SMS/MMS threading problem.
My setup : S3 i9305T
Rom: Pandoriam
Launcher: Nova Launcher
AOSP Messaging theme
I tried the other suggested solutions of putting in the country code for the number but that didn't work for me. I put in spaces but that didn't work either.
Solution - 1: What I found worked for me was to start the message thread. It seems that if I'm not the one that starts the thread, then when the person replied it goes to it's own thread.
Solution - 2: An issue occured where a friend of mine messaged me. I deleted the thread and then replied. When he replied it started a new thread again. I deleted the thread, deleted the contact, re-created the contact and then started a new thread. That fixed the problem.
The problem is still on going for MMS. But at least it's a partial fix =)
Hope this helps someone somewhere, merry christmas!

well, the OP's temporary fix is completely different from the link you posted
longice:
Hi guys,
I just thought I should bring a little "fix list" for the messaging threading issue. I seem to be having more trouble than anyone, so then I got a couple of tricks that seem to work
If you have troubles with threads splitting (multiple threads per contact), try the following in this order:
1. Download Number Fixer from Play Store and add country code to all numbers. Yes, all. Try with +xx (e.g. +44) first. Then open your Gmail and enter contacts page, remove ALL spaces.
2. If the above doesn't work, try changing country code to 00xx (e.g. 0044). And remove spaces.
3. If even that doesn't work for one or all contacts, try deleting country code for that contact.
4. As a last try, add country code 00xx and delete all messages. Then be a good friend - send your friend a message! BUT - in the recipient field, type the entire number (with country code) and DON'T select your friends name when it pops up (keep typing full number). Send the message and hopefully the reply threads as it is supposed to.
Right now I think I actually use all four solutions on different contacts Some work one way, some the other. But luckily I'm not the one that care about keeping my messages

Wow...what an interesting response for my first post.
Sorry longice but I won't be giving you any credits or thanks as I didn't find your fix that you posted 3 weeks ago. If I had I would have but I didn't so I won't.
If I ever post something again I'll have to make sure I scour the threads to make sure I don't get blamed for plagiarism......and here I was thinking that the main thing was to offer help to others....
