Anyone noticed that after flashing the RUU it now takes a quarter of the time to boot up it initially took on any GB rom ?
Before i s-offed and flashed the new rom whenever i restarted my phone, i sat it down and found something else to do for a few minutes.
i think its an ICS thing, cuz every phone Ive come across so far with it boots up fairly quickly.
i think its because we got use to custom roms , my battery life is alot worse now
and its slighly slower in animations, besides that i love it
For a stock experience, this is awesome, much faster than stock 2.3.4 @ 1.7ghz. And yes, I've noticed that bootup time is MUCH improved, I'd say it's 'decent' now, previously on GB it was unacceptably long.
AOSP(CM9) @ 1.7ghz will really make this device shine.

I totally agree . With most custom roms it took at least a 1-1 1/2 minutes . Now it takes 20 or 25 seconds from the point I hit the power button . ICS made a bigger jump than GB did from Froyo imo .

edit: oops, I was thinking of VirusROM. sorry
Actually they both have Sense and Senseless roms. So, which are you referring to?
Most likely you are asking about Sense based roms.
I have ran both and currently am sticking with Nightly builds of Synergy. I just love the speed. And, my internet speeds on 3g, 4g, and wifi are all extremely faster with Synergy.

They both sense, for battery life stability Viper all the way for more speed and nice Transitions Sinergy

These are the only two that I have flashed thus far and I have been able to try these out for about three days each now and haven't noticed anything very different between the two... The phone is still really fast regardless of which I have installed and the battery life is disappointing (~ 9-10 hours) compared to stock (~13-16 hours). I think I will flash something else and maybe come back to these two at some point to see if anything has improved.

Ummm, try Showdown 1.0.
I like viper over synergy, more stability and I like his oc daemon script. Showdown is nice and very esthetically pleasing and its snappy but it lacks full stability Imo as well. Hope that helps.
So far every rom has given me around 10 hours of battery with moderate use if I don't play stuff like order and chaos all day.

No I got better battery life before I rooted and romed too. Strange right? I don't mind the lesser battery life though since I get better performance and features. 10 hours is still a full day and that's with Pandora going all day, texts and emails

I loved Viper, will go back to it once I'm finished playing with CM9.
I got better than 15 hours on my newest 3D. But I don't charge half charged batteries or let my phone go completely dead before charging either. I'm really old school when it comes to rechargeable batteries.
i been trying to find the rite combo for 3 months.. speed and good battery life.. i swear i have flashed every rom every kernel 10 times over!! lol.. i flashed infected rom eternity with infected anthrax kernel.. witch i have flashed meny times befor but this times diff my phone is running super smooth.. im geting bangin benchmark scores and my battery is good so far.. i wounder why it was never like this befor?? hope it stays like this..
I hope so too.
*Refers to sig*
This is what I was saying the whole time I was here lol. Eternity coupled up with any of the Anthrax kernels were THE best way for performance and battery life. Glad to know people are catching on though. I could never fully go back to other ROMs after this.
cool story bro
How stable and smooth is Eternity?
I'm loving Viper rom with chads kernels
Yea, tell me about it.
spook to soon
i just i spook to soon.. i just tryed to use the camera and it all messed up?? its mad fuzzy.. its the eternityr130 rom.. has this happen to anyone else?? i hope i can find a fix cause im loving my setup rite now other than my camera not working..
use stock kernel that comes with r130, problem solved
Latest Fresh ROM has incredible battery life, over 14 hours and still over 50%, plus it's very fast and smooth. Plus it's not buggy and doesn't have a stupid name or ugly theme!

Chad's older kernels are built for the older base. So his kernel with 2.17 will have issues. Update to his r14 test kernel. Camera works, although there is no preview. It still takes pics fine though.
He'll be releasing r15 in a few days that fixes everything. He currently has the only non-stock kernel for 2.17 that doesn't ha e a completely jacked up camera.
Can't get it on XDA because they hate bonafide devs now or something stupid like that. Check infectedrom.com

I'm trying to figure it out which ICS rom to flash based on battery life and I've narrowed it down to Mean Rom ICS and Viper Redline ICS, and I was wondering if anyone would mind posting pics of the battery times.
MEAN ICS v2.0
I'm currently running MR ICS 2.0 and I'm getting pretty decent batter life. I'll have a screen shot in the morning as I haven't actually measured so I'll do an overnight test and have the screenshot up in the AM. I haven't tried the ViperROm though.
I use MR also. Pretty decient useage and i get a solid 15 hours out of it. I tried Vipers ICS in the beginning and was getting about the same. Im not sure what he has changed since the first release. I would post a pic but i just switched back to a gingerbread Rom. ICS to me has some bugs and GB i was getting better battery life and faster performance.
Hope this helps

I went from Viper to MeanRom and never looked back. Even using Viper's CPU Control I still don't get the battery life that I do from Mean. Not to mention Mikey is focused on one sole device and Viperboy's attention is divided by at least two (3D and 4GLTE) maybe more I don't go to all the forums. Also, I use gps a lot my phone (Hardware Ver 2) runs a lot cooler with Mean then Viper when using the gps for hours upon hours. I've even used it for a 14 hour singe day drive once the screen was never off (I did use a car charger of course lol)

Or it could be what he has on his Screen. For Example he could have an alternative Launcher with one homescreen and a clock widget. And also i heard that if you use a regular black wallpaper it could save you quite amount of power. So maybe could throw in a Black Wallpaper in there.

I chose flex simply for the enhanced stock path. It's great for "me" but maybe MeanROM, Joel's, Chameleon or ___ might be your best bet.

I installed MeanROM 0.3 last night before going to bed. Today I went from full to 60% faster than I expected this morning, but since then it has gone from 60 to 30% much more slowly. I am definitely going to give it a little time to "settle in" and see how it goes. Plus, given Mikey's history, it'll be on 0.5 or 0.6 by the end of the week Which is why you can't say one is "better" than the other right now - both are still evolving pretty rapidly.
But, maybe I'll give Flex360's a try right now as a point of comparison.
I've run pretty much all of the roms available and am on mean rom since last night..it seems to be running well..I ran omjs for a while and that was nice and smooth ..imho I dont notice much difference between them but maybe that's just bc I dont know what I'm looking for? One thing I dont like is the show JavaScript console bar and do.t understand its usefulness...and it blocks out my status bar even at the top ..

Precisely. Anyone claiming one ROM is the "best" ROM at this point is just biased. They all are based on the exact same software--except for AOSP--and do virtually the same things and have the same tweaks. There isn't enough diversity at this point to crown one ROM "the best."
i think right now i think that pkmn rom is ahead by a little bit only because it has a leetroid like app that allows you to customise the look and feel of the app. lots of things you would normally edit something for is just a checkbox away

Hi, I need some battery help, this is my first android phone after running with ios for the last 4 years, I'm using th S3 and loving it however I'm having to charge the phone twice a day. Like I say this is my first android so rooting is new and I unsure what I'm doing here. I've followed plenty tips to save battery life but it's still running down too quick.
After 3 1/2 hours of very little use my battery is at 70%
Standby has zapped 24% of that
Screen another 24%
Internet 21%
System 12%
OS 8%
These safe the main culprits for the battery use, I understand you can do something when you root the devise, any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks
This should be in the Q&A section, but please be specific as to what exactly you were doing? (Gaming, browsing in 3g or wifi, etc.) If you just got the phone however, just wait for about three and four days and the real battery life would start to emerge. This is the time when most phones can actually last for almost a day or two. Another thing is that you should download Better BatteryStats and find apps that give the most wakelocks. Just take a screenshot and upload it here if you need help. And live wallpapers and widgets do cause some unnecessary battery drain.

Yeah. I sometimes do that when im not near a charger and my battery is dwindeling. Anything less than 800mhz is pretty bad though when your used to the rapidness.
Looks like im selling this badboy anyway. Hopefully get a lg nexus next week. It seems to me that to acheive proper butteryness you have to use toichwiz ui. None of the cm10 or even when i use nova or any other launcher. None of are as smooth as tkuchwiz.Im mad for mods and flashing so think its time for a switch.

Thinking of the same too actually. But based on the rumors, I hear more nexuses coming from other OEMs are to be actually revealed rather than just from lg. Although if the nexus 4 really does come with just 8gb of internal storage without a microsd slot then I'm sticking with my S3. Although I hear that new parts of code are already starting to show up in the Origen-board-something for exynos processors, this might turn out to be a gamechanger for our problems with cm10 or other pure android goodies.
