Mine works fine, but only had a few texts today
All good here.
Tested and working here.
I rsd back to .173 and then applied the. 181 update and its still the same. When you guys are at a different page other than the homepage and hit the button, does it go to the homepage. That's not working either.

I have the same problem. No text messaging notifications. Stock, but rooted 2.3.6 (latest version). Anyone else have any ideas? Maybe I froze an app that is necessary for notifications?
Edit: NEVER MIND me. I got it. I had the email engine 2.3.6 apk frozen.
Mine works. Might want to factory reset...

When you say you dont get notifications, do you mean sounds or the icon too?
Also have you made sure you have the option enabled?
Go in to your text messages, press the menu button -> messaging settings
and check the notifications option

i get every text at least twice! any ideas on what is going on? on rooted gb from p3droid. anybody else experiencing problems? thanks
I've had similar problems with my X2 on Froyo but only when communicating with my friends on AT&T (they both had iPhones).
It's not unique to the rooted GB. It is a bug that, for whatever reason carried over from Froyo.
They said the bug was patched in gingerbread. Are you sure you're not taking about getting the same text in 2 different apps? Meaning in stock texting app and a 3rd party app. If so then you need to disable notification in the stock texting app.

I have not had 1 duplicated message since i went to GB (Now on rooted GB).. So check your settings, make sure you disabled the stock text app if your using an SMS program.

I noticed that when I downloaded ES Task Manager, I got tons of duplicate SMS. When I deleted it, no more duplicates. Not sure if that helps, but it works for me!

in the stock messaging app -> settings -> multimedia messages -> auto retrieve .. which I think only applies to MMS not SMS
As far as I've seen, there is only one place to control notifications for the stock HTC messaging app. In the stock messaging app -> Settings -> Notifications .. I would double check all the notifications are turned off in there. No notifications should appear if all those options are unchecked/disabled.
If you're still receiving notifications after double checking they are all turned off, then it would appear HTC didn't code something right in their apk and that is definitely a bug!
Hope the clarification helps! Let us know how it goes!
Yes sounds like a bug. What are my OPTIONS? everything was just like you explain only auto retrieve on mms nothing for sms

What would happen if we deleted or freeze the messaging apk? I'm having the same problem as well

Open Messages>Menu>Settings>Notifications>Received Notifications *uncheck*
That should be all you need to do. If you are getting more than one notification it may be a different app. You said that something pops up, stock messenger doesn't pop up. Do you have SMS popup installed by chance?
I removed mms.apk from system apps and everything is fine now.

That is not an option only for mms not sms

Has anyone else had the, I guess problem, where when you send a text that exceeds one page, it now instead of sending it as one message send them as parts and recieves them as parts?

In the original post of the Eclipse thread it does say that it will split them after 160 characters.
Updated MMS.apk
-Set default notifications to always vibrate
-Set default to show full time stamps
-Set user agent to Bionic
-Set Back to all threads rather than taking you back to the home screen
-Set default to split msgs over 160 to send in multiple texts rather than mms.

Oh ok thanks. Didn't notice that. I've looked and I suppose there is no setting for that.
There should be. Atleast on 1.3 its like the fifth option down if you hit the squares button when you're in the messaging app.

Just curious what the benefit of setting user agent to bionic would be?
Sorry for the hijack
No clue, I went to GOSMS because of the messenger app but that was back in 1.1 or 1.2.

This was a setting that was implemented into 2.0.X. I would like the option to change the setting. I don't see that option in the settings anymore. I do remember seeing it prior to this update though... Hmmm...
Has anyone even tried switching the mms.apk from an older version?
Just rename the current one to .bak and push the old one to /system and reboot.
If it don't work just undo it ...worth a shot
Open the mms settings and change it back.

that setting isn't in there anymore ;(
Yeah I do not see any option in Eclipse 2.0.2 for turning off the split texts. But I can confirm that Third party SMS apps that have the option will send just one message.
I used the list in the development section to freeze all the stuff I don't need. Now the problem with doing that is when I receive text messages the ringtone plays but it won't show me that I have a text in my notification bar. So while at work I must keep my phone in my car so i don't get to use it until after work and I really don't want to have to click my text icon to see if i got any text while at work. Any help is appreciated

That list is only a blueprint and not finalized is my guess. I would unfreeze everything and only freeze apps that you don't use. It worked fine for me when I did it the other night.
I use Google Voice for free text messaging and I'm having a very annoying problem with it since I've updated to the ICS leak (6.14.75). I receive an alert when messages come through and the alert also pops up in the notification bar. However, it only stays for a few seconds. If I happen to catch a text message in my notification bar and then close that bar and immediately reopen it (without clearing the notification) it's immediately gone. I sometimes have 4 or 5 messages that all display as new in GV but don't stay (or ever appear) in the notification bar.
I've confirmed that all notifications are selected in the app and I don't have this issue with any other apps. I have the newest GV (4.0 compatible) installed and I have my VM integrated with my stock dialer but keep my texts set to "Via Google Voice App" as I don't have unlimited texting and messages often send from the wrong number if I set it to "Via the Messaging App".
I've sbf'ed back to GB and upgraded back to ICS to see if that fixed the issue and I can confirm it didn't. There has to be some setting somewhere that I'm overlooking. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Anyone on ICS NOT having this issue with GV? If so, which leak are you on?

I use ics first leak. I admit Google voice notification sucks. Sometimes it does not even notify me when I have a text message. I am dealing with it, with the hopes of the fix on upcoming updates.

Ok, so I'm not the only one. I didn't have the issue on my G'Nex so I'm led to believe that it's something in the leak (also on the first one). I'm interested to see if anyone on a newer leak is having our issue.

VM for me is also fine. I love being able to play them through my dialer. Very nice upgrade.
