For the past week now I have been losing data...have full signal with an h in the corner...I get an up arrow but no down arrow..I can switch airplane mode on and off and data starts working again...it does this bout every 5 min or so
Running 4.18 aokp for a few days but also did it on omega 10. Also using the apn setting from the general section...tried every modem I could find but still persists...
Anyone having this problem or know a fix

I Googled this issue and apparently it's a known issue w/o concrete fix. Different things worked for different people, some things did not work for anyone. New Modems worked for some, not others. Disabling fast dormancy helped some, not others. Disabling H and H+ and going stock 3G, helped yet others. Changing phone bases helped some, not others.
In short I can't find an answer, but i'll keep looking.

After reading more posts the following questions arise.
What apps are you using (Juice defender apparently can cause this)
What network setting are you using?
Settings>Wireless/Network>More>Mobile Networks: Is Use Packet Data enabled? Roaming enabled? Network mode?
As you've changed ROM's a couple times, my suggestion would be to do a factory reset, and NOT install your apps. Give it 24 hours and reinstall them slowly, (this is assuming you have a lot of apps and Google Play was restoring them automatically when you flashed ROMs).
Wink
Does it do this on stock based ROMs too? If so, it may be a bad SIM card, you can go to an att store and swap out for a new SIM card.

I had the same problem till I switched to the LD3 ICS leak. Now the only time my data doesn't work is when I'm in the cooler at work.
I havent changed any settings away from stock.

I was having this same problem. And had to do the airplane mode off/on to have it come back then later it would go away again.
After doing reading and searching and searching and reading. Turns out I had the wrong modem base band firmware installed.
My modem should have been UCKK6 but I had UCKH7 installed and that was messing things up. I was running CM7 so it was just a matter of reflashing the correct modem.
I thought since I have to do a flash I went ahead and flashed the up to
CM9nightly20120420.zip then I went and flashed the correct modem. Its worked great for me so far I havent seen any sign fo the data issue.
Here is the link for CM9 modems. Scroll down a little below the window and there is a list of "CWM Fashable Modems".

Hope it helps.
Thanks for all the replies....had a few days off work but I'm back today so I'll see if its just my area...I'll try these others too
Also only packet data is enabled....and just tried the cm9 modems and it still lost data...beginning to think its my area

Hi there
long time reader first time poster here...
searched and found nothing...
running the latest gingerbread AT&T official on a AT&T atrix (currently unlocked and running on the Rogers network in canada)
i seem to be having an issue with my Atrix lately(or at least been noticing).... normally when i am connected to the data networks fine, my signal meter and H+ are is blue...
what has been happening is if i leave the phone alone for some time (usually 20+), it just disconnects from the data services... all my signal meter and H+ meter turns grey... when i "wake" the device it takes a couple seconds to kick back to blue... when this is going on i go into my gtalk and i see it had signed me out and that its trying to sign me back in.... same thing with alot of other apps, like my issimo app, its been sign out, or hasnt received any new updates since it turned "grey".
how do i stop this? is this a bug? something wrong with the OS? will i have to reflash?
any thoughts on this would be appreciated!
thanks!
UPDATE:
had battery save mode on nighttime, so i thought that was the issue... so i changed it to performance and doing that had no effect at all... still losing data after a while of it being locked...
any ideas? could this maybe be some residual affects from a battery saver app i add?
i really would not like to reload the OS...
anyone got any ideas?
i'm finding any solution for the same problem, some atrix lose data signal, motorola says that is a software problem but i dont find a fix for that yet, any idea?
It's a software issue on Motorola's end. I'm having the same problem. I haven't flashed a custom ROM yet, but my friend had the same problem and he said when he flashed Gingerblur it was fixed.
when i seemed to notice it was when i had upgraded to gingerbread... so what i simply did was deleted my APN, rebooted and entered in the APN again, and that seemed to have solved it
@OP I don't use GTalk so I can't comment on that, but the signal than that you described is EXACTLY what my SGS does running on stock Froyo rooted.
I don't know if its more battery saving or what, but I tend to miss more calls in weaker signal areas when my phone has been on idle for a while.
I too am looking for a fix because of that. Also my Atrix sometimes acts the same way on Froyo, but I haven't used my Atrix in a while...

kinda still having the issues but i have been dealing with it and trying out different ROMs to see if those are any help at all... so far its intermittent
Same kinda style here ..
When i am on my mobile data it's fine , but as soon as i connect to a wi-fi it become grey and no more data (mobile/wireless) is working ...
Tried many ROMS , Radios , all the same...
That new leaked radio they got doesn't work here in Bakersfield the 1.77.36p

Yes I found this to be true as well. The new radio (1.77.36) dropped signal for me often and the speeds were lower than with 1.77.30

why not upgrade your radios to the latest AT&T has to offer? 1.97.00 see if that helps?
im having the same issue
anyone knows why this is happening? i have cyanogemod 7, i reflashed the phone, and when it started i restored but the problem just keep going
I have a very similar problem. When the H+ is lit up blue I have a network connection. But it will switch to grey then internet ect stops working ..still have signal (4 bars) any ideas why it keeps switching?
I've had the same issue ever since I first got my atrix. I've tried many different roms and it does it with every one. Ill have great signal n my browser will direct my to a no data connection page. I have to reboot or turn airplane mode off n on to get it going again. I have like a month left on my warranty gonna try n swap it out n see if a different one will fix the problem
I have looked around and found other threads discussing changing between 3g/4g however mine seems to be far more quicker and unreliable than it should be, I have had this problem on kg3/kg6 but dont remember older modems.
Anyway I will be on my phone and within a minute time it will switch 10+ times between all three networks. Im also getting very unstable network connection and the network is slow which it should be a lot faster.
Is this a modem issue or kernel?
I noticed this as well since picking it up yesterday. At first i thought it was doing this when it was sending and receiving data but that isnt always the case.
Im on Cognition 1.31 with KG3 but also saw it on stock KG6
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium App
Yep, same issue here. My data is very unreliable and slow as hell at times. Just got the unit yesterday and it's already annoying the hell out of me.
When it works, it flies. Unfortunately, the radio of my Chilean SGSII seems to be unable to maintain a solid working connection under various signal conditions.
This is pissing me off and making me want to return this to Amazon. FWIW, I had similar data connectivity issues with an unlocked Nexus S (i9020A). Mostly slow data (like 300kbs on 3G slow). I tried three units and gave up. Is this a Samsung issue?
Would flashing/rooting/installing a custom ROM fix this? If not, it's back to my Atrix.
I may have just solved this by disabling fast dormancy (*#9900# in the dialer) so far it will switch but more when I'm not using the internet. And speeds have shot up! Does this work for everyone else?

Hello,
I have been having some issues with the Gin-Sen-Tazz Rom for Eris. First of all, this ROM is AMAZING. It is extremely smooth and easy to OC my Eris on this one. The only problem is that my data just drops on its own. Now, I've been wanting to list this on the [FIX] 3g Data drops on GB Sense Roms Thread but couldn't due to my less than 10 posts (or post it on the actual Gin-Sen-Tazz ROM thread). I'm not sure if my problem is the same as those on the [FIX] 3g Data drops on GB Sense Roms Thread. I've done those steps but still it just drops. The way it does it, usually when the screen is off and after a while of inactivity, it just goes out (the whole 3g/data). As if I manually turned off the data. When I try to turn it on (either via the widget/shortcuts or through Settings) it just say "turning on..." but doesn't. I have reverted back to a different ROM but remember something saying about..."Radio" something something in the "Wireless Networks / Mobil Network" check box. The data will never turn on unless i Restart the phone and even then it turns off after a while. I've installed the ROM MANY times, done all the wipes, all the Reverting Back to Stock and all that and avoided doing the *228 AFTER the ROM install. I'm hoping one of you genius' who are inventing these things, and by the way - GREAT JOB! could help me out. Please let me know if I need to add something to this lengthy question.
Thanks!!!
Does data work alright when running stock 2.1 after flashing Flashback21 v2?
I'll post a link to your question in both the 3g data drop fix thread and the Gin-Sen-Tazz thread so more people can come and help you figure this out.
Thanks for putting this in the dev forums for us... I'll have to load up gst in the am and check, but if I'm not mistaken, there are some powersave settings that might affect that. I'll report back tomorrow.
thanks!

I'll do some digging around when I get a chance too. What radio are you using BTW? Not 100% certain its that but I know on inc certain radios don't play well with gb sense. I know when I was running gst with the hero radio I didn't have and data issues but I did with the radio from Eris ota. I'll do some digging though and see if I can find anything. One thing you can try in the meantime though. Instead of rebooting, have you tried switching airplane mode on for a few seconds then back off? Doing this usually got my data back on for me instead of having to reboot.

The 3g drop is a known issue w/that rom. It happened daily to me the entire time I was using that rom. If you reboot the phone, like the others said, you will get the data connection back. I think the airplane mode trick works too.

Yes, Sir. Works like a charm...I'm using xtraSENSE right now and it works great. I've noticed, you know how on some phones/ROM's you can go into settings and have it automatically turn off data after so long of not using it. I've had that option on my Thunderbolt (when the screen is off) and when you turn on the screen the data connects, well, its kind of like that, except, it never connects and the setting reads something like "Connecting to....." can't remember the rest. I've noticed the xtraSENSE automatically disconnects data but connects perfectly when I turn on the screen.
Thanks!

CS, yep I've tried the Airplane mode. When I do that, the mode turns on, when I turn it off, the data still does not connect...as far as Radio, I'm not sure where to find that (I even tried googling it). However, when I used that link to revert ALL back to stock and there was that option to do the radio thing as well, I did that step, too. I hope that helps and thanks a mill!

Yep, Powersave Settings lol that's the name I was looking for on my previous post. And that's a great way to explain it. I think, if that ROM had an option to turn that powersave feature off, I think that would be nice only because it would not turn off on its own. But that just seems more like a shortcut and I'm certain that, for you guys, its a piece of cake to get to the root of the glitch.
THanks!!

Yeah, I wish it'd work for me. Its a great ROM, I'd put up with it until it would get fixed.
yea post 3, 4 idk 5 more minutes
I'm ganna try turning the power save feature off on this Rom and see if that works. Great idea, never noticed that before. Only thing is for me it seems to happen more often when I receive a text or a phone call when my phones locked (or "off"). I did notice that when my phone is active and I'm using it, I see the data turn off (3g icon disappears) and I just get my phone signal, whenever I recieve a text or phone call. I have not noticed this before on other roms. But then again, I have been known to be very un-observent before....

Dunno if anyone is still following this thread, but I've had a small breakthrough with the data drop issue in the sense gb roms 3g drop issue. I had power saver mode disabled all day yesterday and my 3g never dropped! Still to early to say if this is actually working or if i was just lucky, but in my experience my 3g would drop at least 1 time a day and sometimes more. So far so good. I will report back again in a couple of days of testing to let you know if this is a working "fix".

This is real weird. As of last week sometime, my phone will stop all data connections or wifi connections after about 6 hours post reboot. The only way for it to work again is to reboot. I'm assuming it's an app of some sort causing this because I did a fresh install and the problem is persisting. I have uninstalled all new apps I've installed over the past week as well. Anyone have anything similar or possible solutions? Running CM7 N214 & DCs 8.9.1.

I was actually seeing this as well, but not consistently enough to report it. Was happening on all the nightlies I'd been on after n13x (which was one in the 15x range, and a couple 20x ones). When it did happen for me, it was usually about the same time of day, so I think it might have been on a 24 hour cycle (I don't normally power my device off, so it was probably hitting at 24 hours after the reboot to fix the last one). The strangest part was that the connection icon color would continue to show a google connection, and if I was on 3g the up/download arrows would light as I would expect. Just no data traffic. Was running DC8.9.1 on all of the above nightlies.
this is not so much of a wifi issue but i did loose my data connection twice in the past month. the first time i was outside and i wanted to check my email but i couldn't. i was abel to send and receive texts messages and was abel to make and receive phone calls but no data was available and no internet. i try re booting the phone but still no data. about two hours later i check to see if i have internet, and it was working all by it self. not sure if this was my phone or a AT$T network thing. the second time i was leaving from my home wifi to my AT$T 3g network but the data connection was unavailable, no internet. but this time a reboot fixed it. i have had my aria for about a year now and this has never happen before. this may vary easily be a network, cell tower thing and nothing is wrong with my phone.

Hi,
I've been having the wifi/data drop issue since 2.3.7. I was hoping nightly 242 would solve it. No mas. Lost data connection after ten hours. Flash 208 and all data/wifi issues disappear.
Stock kernel. DC's kernel doesn't seem to affect the issue for better or worse.
Will keep lurking over at the developers forum...
John
I use the stock kernel and I think this problem is affecting my Aria too. Wifi usually doesn't die until about 2 or 3 days.
Flashed 243 and DC's 8.9.2a kernel yesterday. No data loss all day and was still connected this morning when I woke the phone up. Just flashed 244 and 8.9.2a. We'll see how long connection lasts.
John
I had to reboot my phone running stock 242 today. Wifi showed connected but the Market took almost 60 secs to open. Opening "my apps" didn't work. Reboot cured all.
The problem has been narrowed down to drowningchild's kernel. If you are using this kernel, just reflash your nightly to revert back to the stock kernel and all will be fixed. To follow this problem since it is not fixed yet, refer to this kernel's thread in the development section.

For me, the problem started with 2.3.7 and continued whether I ran DC's kernels or not. Flashing nightly 208 eliminated the problem, but of course, who wants to go backwards?

Oh, ok. I just didn't recall any, but I could be wrong. I think for best results, you need to full wipe when going from 2.3.5 to 2.3.7. Also, I have heard that 8.9.2a is still dropping for some with the recent nightlies. I have had no problem with the stock kernel, as I did a wipe when going to 2.3.7.
I was the one having probs with the stock kernel, but a format and flash of 242 fixed it. Been running fairly good since then.
I did a full wipe and flash of N245 + DC 8.9.2a tonight. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. So far, GPS locks in less than 5 seconds.
FWIW, I also did not flash the very latest gapps, the 08282011 version. Does that matter?
John
OK, the big drop came about fifteen hours after wipe/flash w/8.92a. Airplane mode toggle did not bring connection back. Flashed N245 again. This time I'll try the stock kernel and see how it goes.

Would the modem have any effect on the GPS lock?
I could see maybe affecting network location approximation but GPS?
Either way having same issues on my end, tried Kernel change no luck. Might have to try modem now...

I'm not really sure if the modem affects the GPS. In the modems thread, some say it affects their GPS reception and others say it doesn't. For the first few days after switching this ROM, I had horrible cell reception everywhere and I'd drive around for 5-10 minutes before I'd get a GPS lock even though I'd have sats visible. After switching back to the modem I'd always used, reception was better and my GPS locks really quickly. Might have been the modem or just coincidence, though, but worth a shot, imo.
If you do a simple search for 'GPS' in the Shostock thread you will see several recent posts from people reporting a similar issue. Some mention that these GPS issues seem not to be unique to Shostock. In particular, this post by Nosferatuabout teh AGPS patch is very helpful:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28584561&postcount=5919
Use the Google Specific no SSL version, as recommended by Crypted, the AGPS patch dev.
Note that, as mentioned by Nosferatu, if you have a Galaxy S2, you MUST use installation method #2, as the others will not work. All you need to do is copy gps.conf to your /system/etc/ folder using any root explorer. Make sure you back up your current gps.conf, so you can undo the change later if you need to. Read the Shostock and AGPS threads for more info.

UCLE5 but if it doesn't.work out for your area there is a list of all the.modems.in the dev section you can flash
update on the issue: Tried putting on the modem that ends in 7 onto my phone and Nosferatu's fix and it is coming faster for sure but it still is a tad on the slow side.
GPS test reports anywhere between 6 and 10 satellites found and between 3 and 6 in use after about 10 or so seconds.
takes about ten seconds to get a lock and get directions, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less.... any suggestions?
