HTC Evo 3D: Digital Copy Download Not Working - HTC EVO 3D

Anyway to load and play digital copies onto our android phones? I have the htc evo 3D.

They purposely put them in wmv to screw with us. Plus, the digital so FUC*ING COPY ISN'T EVEN IN 3D! which pisses me off! you have to convert it to MP4 also I think it needs to be side by side and not top and bottom.
BUT IF ANYONE KNOWS IF TOP/BOTTOM WORKS... LET ME KNOW!
but you may use "handbrake" to convert it. it is free. 9.6 is the most recent copy I do believe as of today.

Use Handbrake to convert to an h.264 codec in an mp4 container. You should use the original resolution of the file to keep the aspect ratio intact. However, digital copies are usually very low resolution. You will get MUCH better quality, even on this small of a screen, if you rip the dvd/blu-ray and convert that.

DARN IT! I don't have a blueray player in my computer! lol. only in my ps3! errrrrrr haha. don't even try converting the DVD. DVD's suck and aren't even 720 or 1080i/p

Correct. But they are 480p, which is way better of a resolution than the digital copies most movies come with.

Media hub?

Does any one use media hub?
Are the movies good quality and full screen?
I didn't like it for some reason, can't remember why now lol.
Lol i have always just burned moves on to my comp then transfered them ....but just wondering how well media hub works....seems a bit expensive unless its in good hd quality
The one time I launched it, I decided it was worthless to me. I'd rather use handbrake and convert the movies I already have for use on my phone.
I bought a southpark episode for a test if my debit card worked and yes they are great quality but it only works on sgs phones as they are a different video file not mp4 or avi

HandBrake Settings

Anyone know what settings to use to convert a DVD to a video file to play on the EVO3d at the native resolution?
http://www.knowyourcell.com/htc/htc...deos_and_transfer_them_to_the_htc_evo_3d.html
I only partially agree with the article. When i convert the files i keep the source resolution. Even my Evo 4G could playback .mp4's that where natively 1080p. And before you start the "its screen cant playback above a x b resolution...", think about this...u can output upto 1080p via MHL/HDMI or DLNA. Additionally if you convert them to the maximum of the Evo 3D screen, what are you gonna do next year when your next phones resolution is higher?
Second, while its true it will playback .mp4 or .m4v...use .mp4, as DLNA streaming wont see .m4v files (old ones can just be renamed to .mp4),
Also, avg bitrate can be fine for some movies, but especially in action movies, it tends to leave slower parts of the movie in poor quality imo. I usually use constant quality and play with the setting til i get about 1.5GB or lower files from 1080p Blu Ray.
The above has worked out well for both my Evo 4G and Evo 3D

Damn it's great to see you here Myn!!
Well i'm curious, what CBR do you end up using? 1500kbps?
Reviving this old thread since I can't seem to find a newer one that discusses HandBrake output for the EVO 3D.
I just received my HTC MHL adapter, and it works quite well. However, I've noticed that my video quality tends to vary quite wildly by video when displaying on my Sharp Aquos 37", despite looking fine on the phone.
I'd love to know what HandBrake settings people are finding work best for MHL output.

I stand corrected the 3D playback is AWESOME with a proper source

okay, ive had mine for a few days, and toggled the 3D off youtube, and of course the green hornet (which really isnt a true 3D film, and doesnt offer much depth imo, that is), that and its not that great imo, and thought blah, not that big of a deal.....
welp went to my blockbuster (oddly there is still a few left lol), and they have a resale bin picked up avatar (1.9GB), and sanctum (1.3GB) for cheap
used handbrake and anydvd to rip, to render the files down...and WHOOOOA
http://www.knowyourcell.com/htc/htc...deos_and_transfer_them_to_the_htc_evo_3d.html
have to say, HTC has done itself a disservice in marketing, buy not supplying a better film, in better quality, and a movie actually filmed using 3D cameras..the depth really does change the viewing experience
its really changes my view of the technology, and seriously has me wanting a 3D television now...that and wishing the screen was a 4.5" qhd (I miss the width of the 4G)
anyway, of all the bad threads, thought id put up a , "this is AWESOME", thread to counter
also as a tidbit, I have mine overclocked using the temp root, and setcpu mod, @ 1.8, and it runs super smooth, great battery life (suprisingly)
only thing is that for some reason with the stock video view program, I have to toggle 3D, then 2D, then choose file, then 2D, and then finally the movie will show in 3D for those movies that I rendered with handrake
this didnt happen before I flashed the overclocking kernel, not sure why that happened
U have to toggle movies you convert... So wouldnt worry bout that
Bussin Caps n 3D
I agree
.
For picture size are you using Width:720 and 480 for Max width in handbrake? Because i tired with these settings and not getting full screen, i still have some spaces on the left and right sides of the video.

Did you get a 2D or a 3D Blu-ray of avatar?

Did you try 960 x 540?

I will give this sizing a try tonight.
Thanks.
Make sure to uncheck keep aspect ratio and change it to 960x540 in Handbrake. All my videos look awesome!
I just did Legend of The Guardians this morning(watching it @ work)...it looks bananas!!
I converted all my 3d movies to 960x540 using handbrake, all came out at around 26gb (around 20 of them) put onto my memory card and voila everything works perfectly, 3d effect is awesome and sound working gr8. No lines etc. Using handbrake it can autocrop the video and then stretch it making the black bars in the video disappear( if black bars are embedded in video) and quality is awesome, my target bitrate was ~5mbps n output size approx was ~1.5gb per film.

Can this phone play 720p?

Just wondering...else I have to convert to 480p
Yes it supports 720p (and 1080p) movies.
you guys have to always remember that what it supports and what it can do flawlessly are two separate things....
720p videos films are playable but not the smoothest.
actually,For me,720p and 1080p vids played quite smoothly (maybe a tad slower than my iphone4 but nothing notable really)
Interesting, I didn't even try 720p. Good to know it works, but really it generally would be worth your time to convert. Huge waste of space if you don't plan on deleting it right after viewing.

Yup I had to convert a 2.5 gb vid from avi to mp4 and it was about 3.7gb

I assume you used Zune to convert it, if the end file ended up being bigger than the original.
A properly transcoded video would be significantly smaller: a 720p video has 921600 pixels per frame, as opposed to the resolution of our Titans; 480x800. A wvga video only needs 384000 pixels per frame. Therefore a 720p video is roughly 2.4x larger than it needs to be as our screens cannot display pixels it doesn't have (and that's not even taking bit rate into account). The quality will actually be slightly worse on a 720p video because it will have to be scaled down to play on the screen, whereas a properly transcoded video would be 1:1 with the pixels on the screen.
I mentioned bit rate; I don't really know what a good marker for bit rate is, but when transcoding to a smaller resolution, you don't want to keep the original bit rate: that has to go down too. Bit rate plays into file size significantly, so in reality any 720p video is much more than 2.4x bigger than it needs to be.
I guess one of these days I'll play around with a transcoder and make a thread about how to properly convert a video for WP7.

1440p virtual reality demos

So I just bought a Homido to use with the nexus 6p. It's fun but the resulting image isnt too sharp. I think this is because demo movies are 1080p generally and since our phone is quite big, the resulting image isnt too sharp. I wonder if someone knows a source for 1440p or 4k SBS movies to demo ? I couldnt find any myself. Not youtube but real movies for download, shot in QHD or UHD. Please share if you've found something in this thread, thanks !
Actually I'm starting to think there's currently just *no* SBS content higher than 1080p, even on the torrents I can't find anything higher than 1080p, that's quite a bummer ... Still, if someone knows a demo or something >1080p, please do share !
Actually so it seems the SBS format only goes up to 1080p24 ... Just starting to look into this, but wondering now if there's a format that supports higher resolutions ?
*EDIT* also just found this article, the makers of the Oculus rift say that 8k resolution per eye is needed to truely get rid of pixelation: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/...esolution-per-eye-isnt-enough-for-perfect-vr/ and the article makes a point that you need even a multiple of that to get rid of aliasing.
Oh and 500 fps, hehe.
That seems still quite a few years away, lol.
Currently virtual reality is interesting but I understand now we're still quite a few (probably 10) years away from hardware that can generate a really good VR experience. 1080p24 just isn't it....
To answer my own question:
Full SBS = 3840 x 1080 which exists but requires specialist playback equipment
Half SBS = 1920 x 1080 which is very widespread and also of course broadcast-able.
So Full SBS is actually 1080p *per eye*, so our display cant yield true full SBS unfortunately.
