I've looked quite a bit through all the forums looking for information on picture size on the Lumia 800. A 8MP camera should produce about 8 millions of pixels.
I have taken 4 pictures, all of them using the 4 different resolution options.
8MP = 718 x 538
7MP =717 x 403
3MP =718 x 539
2MP =718 x 404
Obviously, if I want a better-sized picture (resolution-wise), I have to choose 3MP which gives 718 x 539 (0.4MP).
Oh wait, isin't supposed to be a 8MP camera, which would give me roughly 20 times the resolution I have now?
Perhaps I'm missing something?
Thats odd. How do you see those pixel sizes.?
When I sync the pics to my pc through Zune they are all around 3200x2500px. I think You someow see the thumbnail sizes or maybe the SkyDrive Camera roll images which are downsized before upload...

Thanks for the quick 'wake up, you got it all wrong'
Ohhh, now I understand...
Then Skydrive does not really 'backup' your pictures at full definition... It's only a quick preview of the picture. I learn something new everyday!
Any way to activate the automatic transfer of the pictures taken with the camera (full sized on Skydrive) ? Seems odd to me that this option only sends a preview, not a full resolution version?
Yes this is really stupid done from microsoft. You cant upload the full image from your phone to skydrive. it will resize it when uploading.
Sucks big time and the skydrive got useless when you cant upload image in full size directly from the phone.
I have stopped use skydrive and now use Boxfiles for dropbox. Not fully automatic but you get the full image uploaded.

Anyone notice that photo clarity is poor when scrolling through albums? Most of the photos I have imported were taken on a 12 mp camera and would traditionally sharpen automatically when i scrolled to a new picture. Would take a second but the pic would sharpen considerably.
Since the updrade to TW my pictures no longer sharpen automatically. If I resize a photo (pinch and then unpinch) the photo will then sharpen..
Basically, if I want a sharp photo I need to manually force to sharpen.
---- just spoke to samsung rep, acknowledged issue but offered no solution. No auto enhancement with TW. Very disappointing.
Hi I dont know how many of you know, but there is an app in the Playstore its called Fastburst camera it takes burst pics very vary fast. its not full 8 megapixel but it takes very clear Pics.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spritefish.fastburstcameralite
The Note already can take 2 megapixel pics at 30 frames per second - use video mode with the highest resolution (1080p). You can grab individual frames from the video if you want a still pic.
The app description says it only can do 30 frames per sec with some cameras - but it may only be able to do 5-10. I also see some user reviews that say it doesn't support the flash, which you can use in the stock video mode.
If Fastburst can take 30 frames per second at a higher resolution than 1080p, then it would be something to look into, but the app description doesn't mention resolution. Can you verify the size of the pics you get from it?

800x480 max, 100 photos in 6 seconds on GingerBread, 1.566 Ghz interactive
Then using the built-in HD video mode would be much better.

Freeze it where u want it and then snap a screenshot?
All video editing software, and some video players will allow you to export individual frames.
Sony Frame grabber works great for choosing a good still from1080p recordings.

You definitely don't want to do a screen grab, as someone mentioned above. There's a high chance you won't preserve the original picture resolution. The app Darious posted is a good solution from the looks of it, haven't tried it yet. It says it does an actual frame grab at the original resolution.
Hello!
I read that in 4.0.4 SGSII now supports better quality photos for contacts.
I'm busy organizing my contacts in phone and Google Contacts, and going to get to photos soon.
I would appreciate if someone told me where, in which format, resolution should I upload photos so that they would appear in the best possible quality in phone.
I mean - should I add photos directly in phone, or is it better to do it via contacts.google.com ?
JPG/PNG? 1000x1000/500x500/...? ~100KB/~250KB/~500KB per photo?
Directly, .png format, resolution as high as possible, weight of file dosen't matter.
I guess there's no sense in making photos larger than 480x480, because screen has maximum resolution of 480 px on smaller side. Anything bigger won't make any practical sense. Am I right?
Maybe, but I always choose highest available resolution.

Hi, the size of picture taken does not match what I see in the camera app, and by size I don't mean image size on disk or resolution.
Basically, what I see "through the lens", as in, what I see on screen when I open the camera app, is slightly smaller than what I get when I take a picture and view it in Gallery. It seems the camera is capturing a little more than what's shown to me on the phone screen. It's pretty annoying when you line up a nice shot only to have the picture taken framed slightly larger than what you saw on screen.
Anyone else have this problem?
I'm using CM10.2.0 stable for i9300, clean install (wipe system, data, cache, preload), with stock CM10.2 camera and gallery.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

What you see on screen in AOSP camera is 16:9 and camera sensor is 4:3, so you have an answer
You can shoot in 6MP 16:9 if you want exactly the same.

Thank you so much.
Do you mean that the camera only shoots 4:3 in 8MP? Is this because 8MP is its native resolution so it matches the camera as 4:3?
Is there any way I could take advantage of the 8MP camera but have it shoot in 16:9?

Exactly. Camera is able to shoot in 4:3 in 8MP mode. Basically it's an industry standard. Almost all cameras (from iPhone to even entry level DSLRs) shoot in 4:3. Other popular standards are 3:2 and 5:4. 16:9 is used mostly by cinematography.

No. Either you have to choose 8MP 4:3 or 6MP 16:9.
6MP 16:9 would be nothing more than cropped 8MP picture to maintain 16:9 ratio.
There doesn't seem to options to adjust the picture resolution in the LG G5 except to change it to 16:9, 4:3 and 1:1.
With camera resolution capacity at 16mp, this will easily deplete my storage space whether I use the internal storage or the external SD card.
I hope LG updates the camera app and adds in more resolution options.
How many pics you taking!? Pics are around 6mb in size so a 16gb as can hold 2700 images. I can't see space being an issue!

Just get a 40$ 128GB card and you're all set.
I was extremely surprised to not find a 3:2 ratio available. Given that there is a huge focus on what the camera can do, it should be there.
I want to use the native camera app, but without 3:2 it's very frustrating. Yes I can crop from a 16:9, but I can't be bothered cropping every single picture I take.
Re the space, as above, buy a 64GB card and save there.
ANy chance someone can help me out with this? much appreciated, really want to be able to take smaller size lower resolution photos.... Any sort of hack ? why is lg doing this not giving the option to change the photo resolution?!

Yes! This is SO SO MUCH BETTER! Thank you! finally can adjust the photo resolution as well as also do a lot more video resolution adjustment.
Now how do i make this the default camera app even in the lock screen as well as getting rid of the old lg camera app?
