[Story]this makes me sad :( - HTC Amaze 4G

so i had this problem with my phone that about a 1 cm margin on the right side of my phone just doesnt respond and before you ask yes i factory reset and even went back to stock rom, but it just wouldnt fix it.
so had this problem for about one month and i got extremely annoyed with it ESPECIALLY because i got this phone when it came out so i still have more than a year left with this phone.
so i finally decided to give HTC an email about it.
they promptly responded with an email with a phone number for me to call and check on my warranty and talk about repairing my phone.
i called like a couple minutes ago and after like five minutes of staying in phone call limbo and listening to some catchy elevator music i got through to someone who sounded like she was tired because she slurred her words. it was not a bother for most of my friends talk like that. anyways back to the subject, i told them id numbers and told them that my LDI(liquid damage indicator) was white, which means no water damage. and she said
"well it seems everything is in order, your warranty is still in effect and we can replace your device's screen and you can have it back within two weeks for free you would just have to pay about ten dollars for shipping."
Eh i didnt care as long as i get this **** fixed. BUT THEN
i had to ask the question
what if i unlocked my bootloader?
she slowly responded with "well i'm sorry but that would void your warranty"
FUUUUUUUUUUU-
then i proceeded to ask her why, she said that if i sent in the device then more than just the screen would have to be replaced because they would have to get something with a locked bootloader. i asked how much...
$200 without shipping
well right now i am slamming my head into the wall for the unfortunate turn that happened.
i just thought to post this to let the community hear about.. well just to tell somebody, post your thoughts

Just relock it, go back to stock and send it in

dude! just make a cover up and re-lock your boot loader... they dont need access to anything to replace the screen.
its litterally like a couple screws, pull the phone apart, disconnect a ribbon cable, pull old screen out, put new in, and so on... (they dont need in your hboot)
so just lock it, call back, and tell them whats going on. dont mention anything about hboot/unlocking. just let them fly into it blind

i was thinking that but do you think that would work??
for some reason i think that it will leave type of footprint and then i get a call from HTC saying
"your device has had an unlocked bootloader, please fork up 200 bucks"

also another thing, do you think if i actually do that would it be safe to go back to stock rom, in case they test it and see the custom rom and sayWTFBBQSAUCE

F#$k that, send it without the battery and relock it lol

Use the S-Off method, but do not install Juopunut's HBOOT. It will say your phone is locked instead of relocked. Then you can use a fastboot command to make it S-On. They won't have a damn clue what hit them!

thanks everybody,
i dont think i will have to s on my bootloader because i have yet to s off.
this exact reason was why i was holding off on s off because that will definitely void the warranty, well i think i will start my journey on locking my bootloader,
so just to make sure, what should i exactly do.
this is what i think i should do
go back to stock rom, i think(btw if anybody has the stock rom, help me out)
lock bootloader,
lose root?
and then im set?
regardless i will wait untill this weekend to do any of that because i am busy during weekdays,
Also, to get s off, wouldnt i just have to do a command like 'oem lock'
or something like that

Well, most likely, your warranty would not be void due to your bootloader being unlocked regardless of what the rep told you. As long as rhe issue with the phone is a hardware issue, which yours certainly is, it should still be covered by the warranty unlocked or not..

[Q] How to get back to normal root?

I recently rooted my amaze (unlocked bootloader first, so perm root) and then proceeded to put the BeastMod rom on the phone via recovery mode. My issue is i have been getting a lot of restarts and force closes and I want to see if i can just return to the normal root (i assume it is just stock sense or something). I would say my understanding and skills are beginner level, so if someone could give me some instructions on how to do this it would be helpful.
I have downloaded the RUU for t-mobile already and I just need to know what to do and if I need to re-lock, or unroot, or whatever.
thanks!!!

what exactly do you want to do? go back to stock root??? what does that mean? RUU's are not rooted. There are rooted stock roms you can download.

I try my best but it's difficult when I work up to 16 hours a day about 5 days a week. I need help with all the Q&A. There are always at least 30 Q's and only maybe three of us giving the A's.
Well, I feel your pain, i was admin on another forum (not tech, but still)...so thank you for your hard work. It probably gets overlooked.
In your experience, is beastmod stable?
I have followed all the instructions and done as I was told, and it keeps crashing a lot. I read somewhere that taskkillers can do damage custom roms. Maybe that's it? Idk.

I try me best to help out. I'm up late nights, so I usually try to help people on here its 4:21 am in LA right now. Hey binary if you don't mind do you have an instant message, facebook, google plust anything to contact you and chat sometimes its faster to do that then keep posting on pages and populating them with things unrelated, if you're not comfortable that's always fine, i won't be offended or take it personally.
Also, say I was to go back to factory (out of the box)
I would have to relock bootloader, install the PH85IMG.zip for TMo, and would that be it. Would I have to flash another kernal or do anything with that?

correct...you don't really have to to flash another kernel since faux's is really based on stock assuming you installed faux's kernel, you should probably go back to stock kernel...also flash recovery back to stock. search development and you'll find how to do all these.

On the contrary, you don't need to re-lock your bootloader. I installed the last OTA with the bootloader still unlocked. Maybe I'm special though.
I would probably leave it unlocked till absolutely necessary. That way I could perm root again if wanted.
Also I never got your opinion on if task killers are deadly to roms?

Hate to spit hairs here but it actually warns you that you MAY void your warranty. If there is a physical problem or manufacturers defect there should be no reason for them to deny warranty due to unlocked bootloader.

Rezound with S-OFF being sold

Someone on youtube is selling a htc rezound with S-OFF and locked bootloader. IDK if this would be helpful to devs for development purposes. He says he will be selling it on Swappa or he is willing to Trade for a phone of equal value.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P060aKs0fZ4
Is there any devs right now with a S-Off rezound?
There are a few devs that have s-off phones. But at this point and time I really think that no one cares about S-off anymore w/ the dev unlock.
yea the ones with s-off devices said it didnt really help with getting s-off for others anyways

Hmm.. that makes me curious. I returned my first Rezound for overheating; in doing so, i wiped everything, went back to GB, relocked, and then reflashed the offical RUU. What exactly was no longer stock about it? Yes, my phone said "relocked" instead of locked, but if that is all, i think we are pulling at strings there...

Indeed. From what I understand, you'd have to revert the phone back to S-ON in order to return it to Verizon essentially "unscathed," otherwise you'd have to hope that the salesperson you return the phone to knows not to look for the "relocked" status. Having recently interacted with said staff, I'm quite confident in saying that unless they've been directed to specifically check, they're not going to go through the pains of checking for a relocked status.
That's the gamble you take for playing with Android development. Right now, most reports indicate a good track record for servicing unlocked phones. But their liability is certainly limited in the verbiage they provided, and that can change at any time.
Just worth mentioning that one should be aware that they are taking matters into their own hands, with the unlock method available to us.
Finding an S-OFF exploit isn't without its own risks, of course, but on platforms that have found the exploit, reverting to 100% stock is fairly easy.
So Verizon reps won't take my phone if its re locked?
---------- Post added at 08:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:00 PM ----------
I won't be mad if that's the case but if the rep don't even put the phone in boot loader to see if its Ben relocked then they will just pass it along lol that's cool.
SamXp said:

I'm pretty sure the return warehouse doesn't even bother to check phones. All they do is connect it and run the program which reverts everything to 100% stock. I believe it even relocks the bootloader and shows "locked" as opposed to "relocked" I mean hell Verizon goes through too many phones to simply give a damn.
And thus the reason for the return rate of refurbished being so high.

Bricked my brand new phone already....

Alright so long story short I tried to rush through rooting my new phone here without checking everything out too much (complete fail on my part...but I wanted it rooted before I went out to the bars to save some battery life haha...ironic, now I'll have no phone tonight).
I went to root it and it somehow got screwed up...the sense launcher wasn't showing up along with the fact that when I pulled down the notification bar and hit settings, it crashed, so I went to unroot it with the RUU 1.13.651.1 and when I got to the comparison screen it said I had 1.13.651.1_R2...and being already frustraited at this point, decided how worse could it get? Tried it out, not my brand new phone is stuck at the black htc screen....fail.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I tried running it again to no avail...I'm about to try the other RUU to just see if it works, but I'm running out of other ideas. Anyone that can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Well, the good news is the phone is not hard bricked, it has a soft brick and is recoverable. Redownload the RUU and try again, but make sure you have the correct one. If that doesn't work you'll have to unlock with htcdev, flash a recovery and flash a ROM. Then try the RUU again if you no longer want root.
Like others have said...it sounds like there is hope for your phone yet. Take your time and CAREFULLY follow instructions for whichever process you choose. Hopefully you post again later saying you were able to fix it.

Thanks!

First off don't feel too bad, No matter how sure you know what your doing we all make mistakes. I paperweighted mine while manually installing some mods last night. If you would of watched the how to RUU the evo lte you would of seen that that the black HTC screen is perfectly normal. The phone will sit on that screen for like 10 minutes sometimes it will reboot and sometimes you will get differnt screens. The key is to have the drivers handy and install them if ur PC ever calls the device android 1.0.
The RUU version 1.13.651.1_R2 is the one you should be using. As scary as it is you just need to be patient, and let the RUU run it may look like nothing is happening but something is.

Help please! HTC amaze sending back to for repair.

Please help read!!
So my HTC amaze died on me about 2 days ago I was listening to my music in my car connected through Bluetooth then a cop passed by and everything shut off haha coincidence haha anyway went home had no service like absolutely nothing thought nothing of it and went to sleep, next morning still nothing and ever since now its dead. Called HTC they said most likely its T-Mobile not the phone but they sent me a replacement back cover (which is cool) because the antennas are on the back anyway I know this isn't the problem because even without the back cover you can still get signal. So I took phone to T-Mobile put new sim tested and nothing so now I know its the phone not T-Mobile. Anyway my question is how can I prepare to send back to T-Mobile I have relocked phone put stock recovery and put leaked ics Rom. So is that bad that it sais relocked and bad if I'm using leaked ics rom I know its voids warrenty when it sais relocked but my software and phone everything works perfect its just the signal so will they fix it? And when I send in could I send phone with a eBay bought battery not HTC one so they could send me a new battery or should I send only HTC battery, phone, and back cover. And also is there any fix for this so I don't have to send in? Please help thanks
You can install official ruu and that will update and install your hboot to locked, which is what tells them if it's locked or relocked. If you don't know how to do this you need to read. Also I've been hearing that ever since s off became available they are considering as voiding warranty not sure if this has taken effect yet or if it matters but just to be sure if your s off read the section that tells you how to s on.
Now before you send have you tried toggling airplane mode on and off ? Still no signal? Flash the official ruu usually fixes these issues. If still no signal then I suggest you send it in.

It's still gonna say relocked, the only way he can get it back to "locked", is if he s-off's the device, once s-off is successful, it automatically puts it as locked all over again, he can leave it as lock, restore a stock ruu, then using, use the command: fastboot writesecureflag 3, that will s-on the device along with everything else being complete stock.
Hmm ya I know how to ruu wich I did but I ruu the ics leak and now everything's stock accept that it sais relocked and want to know if that's gonna be a problem for warrenty when I send it in? It shouldnt since its not software problem? And ya hear how to s off just don't want to try wire trick and all that. And yep tryed turning off and on airplane mode turning off radio taking T-Mobile to change sim cards have original stock Rom tryed *#*#4636#*#* all those tricks but nothing.

When you chose to unlock boatloader you voided your warranty. So by saying relocked it tells them you unlocked it. You need to do what dark nightmare says or you run the risk of not warranting your phone. Luckily for me I "lost" my phone so I couldn't send it in.

aw glacierguy thanks for the positive attitude! hope everything goes good for my phone!
So update for everyone i called HTC back and told them to cancel my back cover replacement for the Amaze because i know this is not the reason why i have no bars! because without that cover i still had bars and i know the amaze has some more antennas inside the device. Anyway i told them that i want to send the phone in for repairs so now everything set up and just have to send the phone on its way :crying: hope its a hardware issue and they can fix it. In the mean time got kinda intresting email from HTC saying
"After we receive the device, we will diagnose it and if there are any damages that fall outside of the limited warranty, we will contact you with a quotation to repair. If you choose not to repair, a service fee of up to $35 dollars will be charged and the device will be returned unrepaired."
Yes kinda scared me but hope i don't have to pay anything for this repair so everyone wish me luck and ill let you guys know how everything goes.
Sucks im probably not gonna have my phone for about a month
Just asking, but even if you managed to get the phone completely back to stock and say "Locked" isn't HTC able to tell if you've unlocked the bootloader via their unlock process on the website?
I was under the impression that the entire reason for the HTC unlock process (getting the key from the phone, etc) was so that they would have a database of phones that have had their bootloader unlocked? I'm kind of new to this but that was my impression.

I think they do have a database, yes, but that only tells them that you requested the file, they can't know you YOU used the file, can they? Huh? Nope, if they knew you used the file, that sir would be invasion of privacy, then they'd be paying for more than just a simple device replacement with the lawsuits that would be hitting them from every mobile device owner using their product.
So once it says "Locked", they can't say you voided your warranty, then they'd have to prove it.
Yes what darknightmare said you could get token but maybe last second decided not to do it haha anywho sending it saying relocked hope they fix hardware issue if not maybe gotta spend money?

They don't need a database. There is no way I know of to get a "locked" phone once it has been unlocked. It will say "relocked". So HTC knows it has had an unlocked bootloader. That doesn't necessarily negate the warranty so far as HTC is concerned. I've read that they have fixed what are obviously hardware problems. But they won't fix anything that a ROM screwed up unless you pay.
The wildcard is T-Mobile. They may or may not be picky about these sort of things.
Ya for sure lets see what htc sais shipped out today through ups htc should get it thursday hope ups loses or breaks my packagae have 300 dollar insurance ha but yep anyone know of any prices for this fix?

Sir, when I say there is a way to get a "locked" bootloader, please don't argue with me unless you can prove my theories wrong, , I have tested and proven everything I speak of, I don't just say something because I want to.
Edit: For the record, once it says "relocked" you have voided your warranty, if you read the agreement on HTC website when unlocking your bootloader and the message on the device when unlocking, it clearly states by unlocking your bootloader you are voiding your warranty.

100% on what Dark Nightmare said, i followed the procedure on the forums on how to completely restore to stock. i was s-off etc.. after it was all said and done, my phone was locked and ready to rock. I sent it back after my replacement arrived and all was good.
Just read through General, Q&A and Dev section, Trust me the answer is there. It's ALWAYS there. I used the GB juopunutbear S-off tool instead of the ICS tool cause i am retarded and didn't take my time and got stuck because of it. I did 2-3 minutes of using the search button and i was fixed in a second!
First of all! Yes Dark Nightmare is correct he knows his stuff you can put it back to locked anywho i would first like to say thank you for all the replys to this post. First post and didnt think my question would be answered but it was and its a great community we got here, i may be new member, but ive always been on xda reading up and hacking all my phones i have went from metro pcs huawei ascend, tmobile my touch 4g and now htc amaze all rooted and custom roms also have done droid and sidekick 4g. The thing is i do have experience and learned alot. Main thing is its an honor to have Dark nightmare and glacierguy here i feel like you guys are famous! ha have seen you guys in different sections and you guys know your stuff so thanks!
p.s everyone that posted i hit thanks

I think my post may not have been clear. Of course you can lock the bootloader; that is how one installs the original ROM. But I was under the impression that it then says ”relocked” if you have previously unlocked the device. That warning from HTC have me a lot of pause when I read it! But I think what I read said ”may” void your warranty. But I was reading fast...

Need to go back to stock, to try exchanging it.

I did do a quick search, but didn't find anything
I'm s-on running ViperRez 1.0.3 I put that on after the global RUU screwed everything up horribly. I was still having issues with overheating, but the guy at the Verizon store said they weren't exchanging any rezounds because they were still working out bugs. So, I decided to wait until it was cooler out to see if I was still having the issues, and they've only been getting worse. Anyhow, I want to take it back to as stock as I can to try exchanging it. I'm just really afraid of bricking it, since after a post on another forum about the issues I've been having.
Can someone give me the right steps, in order; or even be willing to walk me through it? When I flashed ViperRez, I had somebody from here help me out on google talk, that was really helpful.
Thanx,
Justin

All you need to do is download the last factory ruu from android police or this site and run it like you did the global.
Here is the link to the official

Guess, I am not sure if you ran the Ruu successfully.. download file from previous post . Place on your Sd card. Make sure you relock phone if unlocked, if you HTC dev unlocked you should know how to relock.
Rename file on Sd card to PH98IMG.zip, just delete the androidpolice heading is the easiest. Boot to bootloader and press power button, it will start parsing the Ruu and ask if you want to update.
Press volume up to say yes ,then let it run. It will take awhile and run twice. It should then reboot and your back to factory
Just thought of something...if you did upgrade to the global Ruu..can't downgrade unless S-off...

Thank you for that link. I thought I read somewhere about making sure to relock the bootloader or the phone will brick.

This may be kind of pathetic, but I've been racking my brain, and can not remember how to relock it. I'll have to search around.
My phone isn't charged enough to try it right now anyway. Needed to use it to record a school project for my wife. I plugged it in, turned on the camcorder and after about 2 hours, it went from being fully charged to 19% Awesome!!

First off bro.. you won't be able to brick that phone s-off. I assume its possible but I haven't heard of it happening. So don't worry about that.
The command for relocking is
fastboot oem lock
Granted.. you must have the android SDK installed and have a basic understanding of fastboot

I think I messed up somewhere along the line. Who wants to save me. I assumed the link provided a few posts back was the same file as what I had already downloaded sometime back. Which I have saved on my computer in a folder I labeled .2 RUU so...
I copied that to the sd card
relocked the bootloader
let it do it's thing
hit <VOL UP> to start the update
It went through everything and booted to the bootloader again, so I'm trying the update one more time.
PLEASE HELP
EDIT: Just had to flash it a couple of times

Pull battery and then put it back in and see if it boots, otherwise use the link I provided and run that Ruu . No reason that a proper Ruu shouldn't run .

Felt like updating this...
Got it back to stock, went to Verizon, got a replacement phone shipped out. That phone got here today, still having all the old problems, plus more. The really awesome thing is, the screen isn't even solid on this one. It's raised on all sides and I can press it down, slowly comes back up over about 2 minutes. Going to Verizon again tomorrow to see what to do this time. I haven't shipped my old one back yet, as it just came in today.
Did they send you a new battery with the phone?
Have you rooted the replacement yet?

Had the screen lift issue on my first replacement. My second replacement was better...the screen wasn't lifting, but it wasn't solid feeling either. The USB port on that one died, and on this one, the screen is great.
No battery, they said to come back in if I'm still having the heat issues. Haven't rooted the new one yet, as I'm wanting to get it replaced because of the screen issue.
