I'm currently rooted, but running stock ICS.
How do I get to AOKP without loosing my apps and their data safely?
I'm fairly comfortable with ROMs/rooting on my Droid phones. Just a little nervous with my spendy tablet.
Thanks guys.
Titanium backup. Oh and if you want AOKP, you might want to check another site for the latest version.
Thank you! XDA doesn't have the latest version? Wha?
Man I am soooo nervous to unlock.
Also I guess my next question is with AOKP updates. How do I apply those without wiping cache/data and all that every time like on my Droid?

Sorry, I would speak my mind about moderators around here, but I'd probably be banned for free speech.
It's easier to bash the President than it is to say anything negative about an XDA moderator.

Glad to see freedom of speech is still alive and kicking. Hehe. Not the only forum with that problem.
And I wasn't trying to be negative. I thought that XDA was THEE place to go for Android stuff. Am I wrong? Where would I locate the newer version? AOKP.co? Just don't wanna download from Uncle Jimmy's used Android ROMs or anything.
Thanks.

And you're ok with that? Wow....
Back on topic though... how do I easily update AOKP versions?
all I ever do when trying a new rom, is back up with Titanium Back up and also with Clockwork.
I install the new rom and see if its working fine. Then reinstall my apps and I am good. If all else fails, i restore to a back up on Clockwork
Of course I am ok with it. Those are the rules I agreed to. Do I think the mods are fair? It depends on the situation.
But simply put this is not a public board. It is a private board that the public at large may view and join as they wish. Grow up.

Yeah maybe its not a bad idea, it could be called 'Free Speech XDA Developers & Forums'
Sorry was hazying away from Topic while thinking about the freedom of speech thing.
But too many good devs and good people with great ideas get kicked out because many mods do not know how to not involve their personal feelings in their jobs as mods.

You are still having an issue understanding this.
You have no rights on this message board. This board is not in any way run by a government body and as such does not have to respect your rights.
If you want to test my assertion I suggest you try breaking a few of the rules and see what happens.
If you wish to go somewhere with no censoring may I suggest 4chan?
Congrats on finding what you were looking for.

All of what you said is the reality but it doesn't make it right either. This is why my involvement here is limited. There are certainly other places to have community, a little more "free speech", and get Roms.

It's this way on tons of forums out there. Someone becomes an admin, they think they rule the world and then it gets to their heads. Find a welcoming forum, and stick with it!
If you want to ban me for saying that. Go for it, I won't be stopping by here too often anymore anyways, just like many others. Just solidifies my views and quite honestly makes the XDA community look bad.
However I did find what I was looking for at a different site and the users there were very helpful and I was able to successfully get to AOKP, and they even helped me troubleshoot some other issues with CWM.
So I am sorry XDA, I've loved you for a long time, but there are much more welcoming places out there for Android Development.
And thank you for the users that did actually try to help me get to AOKP on XDA.

Hey guys! Long story short, I unlocked, rooted and installed Clockwork as my recovery and it kept hanging when I was trying to do a backup.
I got frustrated and impatient so I just flashed CleanRom without doing a backup first. I love CleanRom and all, but if I wanted, can I go back to stock now that I don't have a backup?
Any info would be appreciated, thanks!
What is your definition of stock? Unrooted? Relocked? Untouched rom? Somemore information would be helpful to guide you in the right direction.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
If you want to go back to stock. Relock your phone and grab the RUU. It will put you back from whence you came.

First and foremost read THIS from beginning to end. Stop posting questions in the Dev section...despite how special you think you are...you're not. Post in general or maybe searching is a great idea.
If you want a stock ROM here. To go back to complete stock you need to relock the phone and flash the latest RUU IIRC...

People posting in wrong sections and asking questions that have been asked about a million times get's very annoying. Have at it if that is what YOU want...if the OP would've used the search function, he/she would've found what they were looking for.
If you guys want to continue to baby people and spoon feed information to them then knock yourself out. If you post a new thread non-development thread in a development thread be prepared.
Jesus H. Christ on a pogostick, people. A "Development" forum isn't just for the Devs. It's also for people using the fruits of the devs' labors. Sometimes, they have questions. If they didn't, they'd probably be developing on their own, and XDA wouldn't need to exist. Sure, using search is advisable, dare I say it, recommended. But there is no reason to get nasty.
I've been a part of XDA since WinMo 5, and I left for a long time due to nastiness like this. I'm no developer. I just use what gets made, and I'm damn grateful for it. But there a reason XDA is slowly seeing a mass exodus to RootzWiki: Less (but still existent) dickery. Yes, what the devs do is a courtesy to the community. No, they shouldn't have to answer the sane questions repeatedly. The search doesn't always cut it, and it isn't always used. Wouldn't it just be easier to either quickly answer and encourage search usage politely or to quote and respond with a link to the relevant post? Even better yet, those of us that aren't devs but are at least semi-knowledgeable could give our service to the board and aid the devs by politely answering in their stead. Novel frickin idea.

As is stated, do not post your questions in development forum. Before you start a new thread ask yourself this: "is what I'm posting a rom or a kernel?" or "is this a guide for development?"

So far, this forum is the friendliest I have seen, so welcome. Like others have mentioned, there is an Alpha build of CWM available, but as of right now, flashing anything triggers the flash counter, which can prevent you from utilizing your warranty for an exchange. If you are worried about having to return your Note for some reason right now, I would wait until we have a workaround for the flash counter. If not, we have the TPC ROM and DaG's OC/UV kernel that are both stable and will get rid of the problems with the stock ROM.
As with any ROM or development, don't ask for ETA's in the future. Seeing as you are new to this, nobody will be mad, but continued pestering will drive devs away and get people very upset. Now that you know, I'm sure you won't be a problem. haha. Also, with CyanogenMod, asking for ETA's is even more frowned upon usually. You're fine though, no worries. And as I said before, welcome.
On the Infuse forums, we had several devs driven away by people pestering devs for ETAs, asking unnecessary and repetitive questions without reading, and constant bickering and fighting in the forums that just cluttered threads with useless bullcrap. I hope that our forum stays clear of the level of asshattery that occurred there, but if you do your part to stay clear of it, then we will all be able to work together and have a great community.
Just to make clear, I'm not ragging you at all for asking, as you are new, just making some friendly suggestions to keep you and all of us happy from here on out. I wish everybody was as friendly and accepting as you. Haha.

Hey guys! I've lurked around here for a while. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S II for ATT a few months ago after being a longtime iPhone user. Therefore, I'm fairly new to the whole Android tweaking process. I want to install an ICS ROM onto my phone, particularly CM9. I've read the stickies, and am really trying to understand, but at the same time, do not wish to brick my phone. So could someone tell me if this is correct? Or where I'm wrong? Based on what I've read here, to install ICS, I need to...
1. Root my phone as outlined in the thread for that. (The one about not activating the yellow triangle. Since I'm on 2.3.6, I'll need to use "Odin3 One-Click Downloader".)
2. Backup my apps and texts and crap using Titanium Backup to my SD card.
3. Install the proper kernel (where do I find this?) using Mobile Odin.
4. Make sure CWM is active, backup NAND (I assume this is an option?) and flash CM9.
5. Flash Google Apps.
6. Restore my Ti backup.
Thanks guys for the help! And sorry if I'm being stupid/completely misunderstanding.

Read, read and read some more. Do a search for Hellraiser as there are no true ICS ROMs for this phone yet, only i900 ports.
If you need to ask questions like this, you are not ready for ICS and ICS is not ready for you.
Since I9100 kernel source code has only been out for a week and we had a bunch of I777-specific **** to fix - while lots of progress has been made things are not quite working yet.

Facts are facts, loser. There is not yet a fully-functioning official ICS ROM released for the i777, so any talk of one is premature. The guy admits in the title of this thread that he is a noob and doesn't quite understand. These are exactly the people who should not be flashing ANYTHING, let alone a ROM that is not ready for primetime. But keep on encouraging him and others so that the forum gets filled with people needing help to fix what they messed up. I'm sure you'll be rewarded with tons of adulation for your efforts. Hi everyone I ASSUME everyone here has seen we have jelly bean as of today. I want to thank the devs who work on it but one man stands out here and that is chad. While other devs have moved on to other devices other projects he stuck with us and proved to be a gift to everyone here. For the past year this guy has made everything ICS, AOSP, and now Jelly Bean (yes I'm aware they are the same) possible the guy is a machine and seriously deserves respect from this community. From what i understand this thing isn't quite ready 100%. Chad released this on good will that we understand AS A COMMUNITY recognize this is still a work in progress and that over time just as it was for ICS things will be ironed out. Work that said Chad has polietly asked we keep his threads clean and we keep bug reporting to the rom thread you use. Do not I will say again
DO NOT BOTHER CHAD WITH ANY BUG REPORTS STICK TO ROM THREADS.
I say this because I wholly respect what he has and is doing for us and hope to keep chad here as a dev for awhile his dedication and skills surpass any Dev I have ever had the pleasure of using their work. He will over time fix things i know and trust him on his word. So People of the Rezound community I emplore you to follow this rule, and allow Chad to do what he has to do.
KEEP HIS THREADS CLEAN AND DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT PM HIM ABOUT UPDATES BUGS OR HOW YOUR CAMERA DOESN'T WORK SO YOU MISSED YOUR BABIES FIRST STEPS. IT'S NOT HIS PROBLEM.
YOU AS A FLASHER HAVE TAKEN FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE.
WITH THAT SAID. I love this phone, this community, and our devs, we all continue to contribute and build on a user experience like no other phone. And if we show patience and understanding here im sure chad will reward us in the future as will the other devs. We all need him here so show your respect to him by following this threads guidelines.
SORRY FOR THE LONG THREADS. I just love android and this place I have said my peace if anyone feels this is an unnecessary thread or post pm me I will gladly remove it but i felt this was important and should even be a sticky. I hope this didnt insult or upset offend anyone just lookin out for my community.

If Chad had allowed posting cm10 builds publicly from the start, then I never would have learned what I learned about android.
Even though builds are now floating around publicly, it's still a great idea to compile it yourself!
Not sure if the warning was necessary but I wholly agree. Don't bother Chad.
its good news for all of us rezound users, thanx CHAD

I guess it shouldn't say warning I just want to make sure people understand we need to respect chad and since many don't read before they flash maybe this could help get the word out about how we need to approach jelly bean bug reporting

There are a few guides in the dev section that are fairly easy to follow. That's how I learned to compile. Its written for Cm9 but all you have to do is change which repo you are synching and build. You should honestly try it out. Its a really rewarding feeling.

I don't feel these threads help at all. You basically just rephrased what chad himself said, but you said it with RANDOM CAPS everywhere.

I just don't think it was really necessary to threaten everyone.
If there is a problem, Chad will defend himself.

Again not a threat sorry if it came off that way. I'll take it down asap. Didn't want to offend anybody and don't want to ruin my own reputation here. My apologies to chad and the community

Instead of taking it down, rephrasing it would be much better

Thanks for being cool about it grey you always do a good job keeping this place in order I'll rework the op thanks for understanding. Most forums would have blown up about it. I keep seeing people say this place is out of order and genuinely don't see it?

I'm not a moderator, so I don't clean the place.
I have grown up a lot on this forum, so I just try to pop some common sense in if I can. There is no reason to blow up about something simple on a forum.

We learned that flipping out on forums was bad a while ago.
