[Mod S-OFF required] Rezound Super CID! - HTC Rezound

This is probably common knowledge, but since the only place I found it in our forum was buried deep in a 1500+ reply thread I thought I'd make a new thread for it.
If you don't know, super CID is more or less like root for hboot/fastboot. Why do we care? It means we can install any ROM we want if the propaganda is to believed.
More importantly, it means we don't have to lock our bootloaders before we RUU if we don't want to.
Here are the simple steps to get super CID.
S-OFF is required.
1. fastboot oem readcid
2. write down your existing cid.
3. fastboot oem writecid 11111111
4. fastboot owm readcid
5. verify it has changed. It should list your old CID as your backup CID.
I tested this by flashing the 2.x RUU, unlocking the bootloader via HTCDev, and then flashing the RUU again immediately after I got unlocked.
--As is noted by other people. This isn't actually useful for us. But yay, now you know and don't have to spend 5 hours researching like I did.

i just did this earlier today

i don't see why anyone has unlocked... there's absolutely NO need with S-off

Maybe some people like to see it say "Unlocked" on the top of their bootloader instead of "Locked".

The point of supercid was more or less for phones with oversea counterparts
Like the inspire HD and desire HD
Same phone for the most part just branded different, supercid would allow you to flash an inspire Rom to the desire

where did you get this information the cid is the carrier id,and simply tells the phone what factory RUUs its allowed to install. it has absolutely nothing to do with locking bootloaders. once you are s-offed,if you choose to unlock, you can run an ruu without relocking, period. its got nothing to do with superCID.
superCID is cool for phones like the sensation, desire HD,and other world phones becasue it lets us run other carriers branded,or unbranded software. ive been running asian/european ICS on my sensation for weeks now
while i did change the CID of my rezound for S&Gs,it is at this point, completely pointless,as all we have access to are vzw RUUs do not be mistaken that this lets you flash other phones roms. that would be an extremely bad idea
while i appreciate your bringing forth this information,id prolly advize that most folks do not do this. at this point there are no benefits, and its one more thing you will have to remember to return to stock if you ever need to send the phone in for warranty.
my 2 cents.
edit: yall beat me by minutes

its a good substitue for the eng hboot for new rooters,as it allows fastboot boot and fastboot flash, and even allows you to change cid and the secureflag. in short its got all the commands that most folks will ever need
it also is a lil less dangerous than flashing a new(potentially corrupt and unchecked by a "whats an md5sum??" new rooter) bootloader. remember without a bootloader your phone is useless. i personally see nothing wrong with unlocking rather than flashing an eng or patched hboot.
i agree theres no need to unlock, but theres othing wrong with it,either.

Seriously. Stop posting this pointless crap. Feel free to make a rom or kernel or something and post it but photos and a single useless fastboot command are useless and isn't development.

Not common knowledge. Also, not in our forums till now. Just because YOU have a lot of experience with HTC phones doesn't mean everyone else does.
Everything that I have posted has been useful to someone. Just because we have S-OFF does not remotely mean that we are at the end of the line for development.
Perhaps you would like to make a post with your common knowledge about how to compile AOSP from scratch for our phone. Or how to flash a new hboot from download mode or JTAG/SPI for those who bork their hboot?

So can you tell me where I should have looked to have known that it was useless until I made this thread?
Also, since it is common knowledge, can you tell me where the JTAG ports are in the pictures I posted. Or more specifically, the pinouts?

1. Where did a comment about AOSP come from? A rom could have meant a sense rom.
2. You didn't figure out how to flash hboot via download mode/ JTAG or SPI. All you did was post pictures of the inside. You didn't label a single port or anything.

I think what con was getting at is you giving information like this, that doesn't do anyone any good concerning this phone is pointless to post in the development section. Post it all you want in general.
I think putting long tube headers on a muscle car is useful information, but since it doesn't apply to this phone I am not going to make a thread about it in the development section.

I just didn't know that at the time I posted this thread. As far as I could tell it was useful information since there are still people locking and unlocking their bootloaders. Other phones have super cid info posted in their dev sections, how was I supposed to know it "useless".
It really is too bad that it has been deemed useless though. It already has been useful to me.

I think this is clear that HTC will not let us have S-OFF unless its from a developer

Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.

That'a actually another reason why I don't want to rush to obtain s-off because even if we get it we may lose it with the OTA. Would be our luck. We know that HTC read these so what's to stop them from being like "Huh. This Binary100100 bastard figured out how to get around s-on. Let's patch that with ICS! That'll show them!"

No, and most likely never will because it invalidates the very reason S-on is enabled. We've (the community) always developed a way to bypass the signature as far back as I can remember, but they've figured out a way to make it more difficult to accomplish with the Amaze.
I think if we make enough noise, perhaps they'll create a tool that allows overwriting the signature. My optimism always gets the best of me!

I believe its the lack of developers for the amaze, the rezound is newer than our phone and I believe they have achieved S-off, It's hard to say because that phone is a CDMA phone, but never the less if they have figured out a way to make it more difficult it should be for all the new HTC phones, which doesn't seem to be the case.

That whole recovery thing on the epic is the reason I despise the Samsung phones and the New kernal and modems every week with no change at all. There's only a few ways for ur phone to get bricked here. Experimental roms/mods (unlikely) or a simple bad flash (not likely either as recovery just says failed and u can flash something else)

I also had my elte rooted and rom'ed within the hour I was looking for some general tips, tricks, best behavior and routines when dealing with the elte to avoid issues...knowing only way to brick is purely poor judgment or possibly a bad download is comforting.
Alllllllll this thread was for was to collect data to compare to other devices which have had issues bricking or getting ruined by easily doing something small or specific

cant install rom now cus of h boot, i hate htc

any work arounds?
1. Yes, you can still flash ROMs even on the new hboot.
2. All you have to do is use RegawMOD to do everything, and then flash a couple of SU zips.
3. Questions belong in the Q&A section.

That's not exactly true after this last update. If I recall correctly, if you HTC Unlock on 1.22, you can't flash kernels through recovery, you have to do it another way. I think there were other things we couldn't do anymore as well.

SO where should I start. Any good thoughts form the public on this phone? Is it SetCPU friendly and such?
The phone should come rooted but Having to root it myself would never be a problem. Rooted multiple phones and have seen some... dirtier ones as well.
I looked up the general rooting information and saw some roms but would like everyone's opinion on usability and the such with rooting. Should I take the ICS update?

No one click for HTC phones, but I've tried to make it as simple as possible in this thread. Once you have S-OFF you can change bootloaders by choosing one from the 7th post in this thread, which will explain the differences in hboot's as well.

Well there isnt anything indicating that you've found what you were looking for, I'm not quite sure what you mean by me being 10 years late and I do know for a fact that a little searching around the development forums you would have found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011243 at the top of the page just where I said... oh and all questions are supposed to be posted in the Q & A section...

There is also a really good thread stickied in the Q&A Section which explains some issues and links the unlock method. The unlock method thread should probably also be stickied in the Development Section IMHO.

How about providing some actual, useable information. Like, what does "failing" mean exactly?

You're right beaups, let me break it down:
-From the CID.apk method, I got the "VZW_001" in abd fastboot oem readcid, which I heard is a no go.
-At HTCDev I got the error code #160 message (MID Not allowed) when I pasted the token ID (from start to end, excluding the word INFO) that I obtained from fastboot oem get_ identifier_token.
-RUU.exe stated not to be able to update my device to 1.15xxx from 2.4.605.2
I don't know what else to do. I cannot retire my Droid 4 just yet because of that. Your help would be very appreciated.

Ok. Has your phone already taken the update? (What software version are you on?). If its been ota'd, there is no unlock method for you currently. And based on what I've found so far, there may not be one any time soon.

Yes I had an update as soon as I slipped my SIM card in. I am running the 2.4.605.2 version right now. Can the Jcase's exploit help me change the CID in order to unlock the bootloader via HTCDev?

No. There is no method to unclock your phone at this time.

As this is my first post I beg of you to take it a little easy on me. I am currently on the new OTA and have had the DNA for 5 days. I realize the lockdown on this phone is particularly harsh with this update so I am curious if I can return the phone to Verizon for a non-updated new one but I will need some type of ammo to go in there with to really get them to exchange it. The only problem I have had so far is that my financial pages for paying bills (Verizon included) and my expense reporting will not load. Perhaps this is a java error that the OTA may have caused and I am sure Verizon wants their money so that will be a way to win.
Are there any major issues with the current OTA I can add to my complaint list to get my hands on another one?
And yes, it is very rude to ask a dev if they are coming close to a solution but I am curious if it will be all for naught and the workaround is on the horizon or in the near future. I'm sure it's on many new owners' minds and they are scared to ask so let the noob bashing begin on me. I can take the abuse.
Knowing my luck I will come home from the store and blammo beaups and jcase have cracked it.
Update : Called Verizon, made claim, got a new in box sealed DNA, brought it home and went to work on it!
Proud owner now of a rooted, unlocked, s-off, rom and custom kernel running, new OTA radio, future updates from Verizon ota's blocked, bad boy of a DNA!
