Clean Rom and HTC Mail Sync - HTC Rezound

I'm having problems with the gmail account I have attached to the HTC Mail app. My regular gmail app ( connected to another account) Works perfectly fine. It has synced before but it seems intermitant and I know I have four messages in my inbox and It will not sync no matter what I try. Just wondering if theres a known issue with the HTC app.

I have had the same issues on stock GB and CleanROM ICS 4.3 - no matter what ROM I use, HTC/Sense mail stops syncing.
I've moved on to K9 mail. Works perfectly.

Why do you have the Gmail set up there? You can add a second Gmail account to the actual Gmail application. That might be more reliable for you.
I'm using an Exchange account with the HTC Mail app and haven't had any syncing issues at all.
You can try clearing the application data in Settings and setting it up again, if you prefer the HTC app.

I believe that setting up GMail in the HTC mail app is part of the set up process. I am not sure you can actually avoid it, although I have never tried. Also, the UI for the mail app is nicer in some respects than the GMail app.
Exchange does work well, but there are definitely issues with webmail and the mail app.
In the past, I tried clearing data for the for gmail on the mail app, and I think HTC mail won't allow it since gmail has to be a primary account.
Having gone through all this is what made me suggest the K-9 mail app. Just turn off notifications for the other gmail mail accounts.

You can definitely skip setting up GMail in the HTC app. Just skip the entire setup and then sign in to the Gmail app directly. But I know what you mean, the HTC app has some aesthetics I enjoy more than the GMail app.
And you should be able to clear the data on that HTC app. It's totally independent of the Gmail app. At least, I've never had an issue with clearing data from it and it didn't affect Gmail in anyway.
Hopefully the OP can chime in on the results.

Yes, it's a known bug. The Android Task killer, kills off the HTC Mail app after a while. It was listed as a fix in the changelog for the January OTA update. It seemed to get a lot better, but its still not perfect.
I also agree, you should just use GMail app for all your GMail accounts. It's push so no random checking.
Also, I believe the Task killer is overly aggressive in general. After my phone has been running for about a day or so, my Facebook widget stops updating. I have to reboot the phone, then it starts updating for a day or so then stops again. Same with my HTC Mail app that checks my personal mail account via POP.

[Q] which email app do you use and why please.?

Please as title states, which email app do you guys prefer, on the sg2, and why please. I want to be able to use gmail, so jus want to findout what you guys are using, to receive or send your gmail emails. I also want the option to schedule the sync, so your input very much required.
I use the stock Gmail app for my gmail. gmail isn't my primary account so not bothered by any failings, etc.
I use K9 for my main non-gmail personal account. Am very happy with it, can schedule timings and specify a quiet time, when I don't want to be distured by email notifications (i.e. when I'm asleep).

Apologies for the delayed reply.
I think it's as follows:
Menu --> More --> Settings --> Account Settings --> Fetching Mail:
"Folder Poll Frequency".
Also under the above and within --> Advanced:
"Refresh IDLE connection".
I "think" that's what you're after... to be honest mine has always just worked.
Hope it helps!
i like samsung's email app. Only thing i cant figure out is how to put it to push.
I tried the Samsung E-Mail app but it really pissed me off more and more. You can hardly make any settings, just specify how many mails to load (timeframe) and how often to update, that's about it. the funtionality and look are standard.
I switched to K9 mail again and instantly remembered why I always came back to that app. Not only does my Push work flawlessly for both accounts (one business, one private that collects) without any "premium" account hassle making use of that annoying social hub, but I can specify all sorts of settings like how much data to transfer by default per mail, to load images, and many many more.

to make push work you have to set your mail account as an imap account. to do so you need to make it a premium account which leads you to samsung collecting your mails via the social hub ... I'd recommend k9 mail. looks the same, and you can make almost any necessary setting.
The stock Gmail app does everything I could ask for
I switched to EnhancedEmail when I used to have a DHD as the stock email client didn't sync contacts and calendars probably.
Enhanced did all the syncing perfectly, however, it just did not allow Exchange accout contacts to be created or added (i dont really know if the stock email client had the same problem or not).
With the SGS2, i used EnhancedEmail first, but recently switched to the stock samsung email client - it seems to work flawlessly, albeit, with the limitations to customisations stated by others. I use Exchange (both my my company email and hotmail) on Push, and at that, it is good enough for my usage.

Plus the stock mail app draines more battery then k9 due to being more active or active in the wrong way I don't know, but there is a big difference, at least on my phone.

Email app not syncing automatically?

I have two hotmail and one Gmail accounts set up in the HTC mail app. I set them up as generic POP3/IMAP accounts (meaning, I didn't click on the preset for hotmail/gmail when first creating the accounts). I set the up exactly the same as I always have on my Incredible.
I have them all set to update every two hours, however, only the first account (both the one created first and the one selected as primary), will actually sync automatically. The other two only sync when I manually prompt it.
I have deleted and re-set up the accounts multiple times, and even did a factory reset of the phone just in case I broke it somehow, but I get the same results. Is anyone else setting up multiple POP/IMAP accounts and having this issue?
I have also noticed that often, the led doesn't stop blinking after I check the email.... and the mail icon on my home screen will stop showing an unread number when I open it even if I don't open the unread mail....
I use the Hotmail app from the market. Notifies me as soon as I get an email. There is also a Gmail app if you need it.

I've had the notification light blinking with nothing pending to check with other apps, notably Talk. It seems that if I'm in the app when a new message comes in, so I read it immediately, and there's nothing in the notification bar, it will turn the blinky light on and not turn it off until you exit out and read it again. Not really a huge issue, if you know to look for it. What is more of an issue, however, is when the light never goes on when I have an unread message, and I have to check the screen manually. Had that same problem from time to time on my Incredible running a Sense 3.5 ROM, so I wonder if that's just a problem with the apps that come with the new Sense.
I can't stand the Gmail or hotmail apps. The hotmail app doesn't get emails past 30 days and the Gmail app, to me, is a mess. More than that, I really like having the unified inbox of the HTC mail app.

I have a similar issue. I had a Thunderbolt and both email (the Native sense combined box) and the GMail client synced fine. I switched to the Rezound. Here is what I have found. If I use the Gmail client everything syncs with the gmail servers but the native sense combined box does not update as read or deleted. If I use the native client it all syncs correctly, including the Gmail client. Here is the problem. If I use the computer or my tablet, the email on the the Rezound client does not update as read or deleted. I know I can remove the account form the HTC/Android client, but I shouldn't have to and I like the combined in box. I don't know if this is a flaw in this version of Android 2.3.4 or something is set up wrong. I am using IMAP and have not changed any online settings since switching from the Thunderbolt.
I never found a solution, so instead I came up with a workaround. I just put the sync all widget on my home screen. Now, whenever I get new email in my primary account, which doses update automatically, I am in the habit to hit.the sync all widget. Not the best solution but it's all I could think of barring going with like k-9 mail or something.
Yes, had a problem initially, but now....
Bought my phone on opening day, and immediately noticed a problem with the stock email program (not syncing, only displaying 5 email accounts). Initially added 10 various email accounts (3 pop, 3 yahoo, 2 gmail, 1 hotmail and 1 aol), but only 5 would show up on the display, so I tried adding the missing accounts again and got a message saying that the account was already setup (weird). Now all of a sudden, in the last couple of days, all 10 email accounts are now visible. I suspect that HTC might be pushing software updates/fixes to correct some of the initial bugs in the OS.

[Q] Sense Mail App Marks all Gmail as Unread

Hi, I searched the forums but could not find any thread that dealt with this issue (for any phone), so I apologize if it's already been posted. And since I don't know if this is just an issue with the Rezound, I'm posting it here.
When I set up my Rezound I entered in my Google account info, and the phone automatically set up my Gmail account both in the Gmail app and in the stock HTC Sense Mail app. The Gmail app seems to work fine, but the stock email app doesn't sync the read status of new messages. If I get any emails in Gmail during the day, even if I log into it on my computer and read the messages, they still show up as unread in the sense mail app. Refreshing the app doesn't change anything. In the Gmail app, the messages will be marked as read if I have viewed them anywhere else.
I can't figure out how to fix this, and there doesn't seem to be a way to edit any server settings for the account, as sense has it registered as a Gmail account in the stock mail app, and not as a pop/imap account.
Anybody having this problem, or know how to fix it? I'm a new android user, and have only had this phone for a few days. Thanks.
Just take the gmail email out of the htc mail and just use the gmail email app to get your gmail mail.

I would like to avoid doing this if possible. I like having all my mail in one place. Any way to fix the stock app?
Email htc/usa and ask them. It only takes one second to push the gmail app, that's what I do. I understand you don't want to do that. Htc should be able to tell you how to change the settings.

I got an official reply from HTC:
Thank you for contacting HTC Technical support about the issue you are having with your Gmail account on your device. I do apologize that you have this issue with your device and I will gladly assist you with this today. We recommend you delete your Gmail account from the mail application on your device and use the Gmail application for your Gmail account on your device. The issue you are having it with the way the Gmail POP3 servers work with the Mail application on the device and there is not a setting to make it sync up to have the mail show up read until you up it on your device.

So it looks like, for whatever reason, the Gmail setting in the sense email app defaults to POP3, even though I have IMAP enabled in my gmail web settings. Unless anyone knows a way to fix this, I guess I will have to either set Gmail up as a regular IMAP account or just use the standalone application.
Thanks for the replies

Account GMail and system Mail vs HTC apps

I'm using default GMail linked to Android Google account as only mail in phone. Problem is, that Sense+ designer probably missed, that someone actualy use GMail instead of internal Mail and here comes problem.
Lockscreen productivity tab - mail and calendar shows only calendar, because (I assume) it expects mails in Mail app. And because I use GMail, there are none.
Camera app share function offers by default Mail to send a picture, GMail option is cleverly hidden under More. And you cant rearrange it, so you have to make one more click and scroll to GMail option.
And probably more, just getting used to work with phone and still didnt explore everything. Am I missing some settings where I can choose default mail app representing Mail option in different programs, or GMail works like completely separate app and it has to be supported directly?
Did you download a Gmail app and that is what you are using? I would think in the general mail app that comes installed with the phone you can add a gmail account to it and it would then link to all functions of the phone. Not sure of your question? Are you using a 3rd party app download for your mail and expecting it to work with all the stock mail functions of the phone?
No when you setup your phone first time then you have to link it at least to google (gmail) account. And this account uses preinstalled gmail app instead default mail. If i wanted to use default mail app, then i would have to add my gmail acc manually, resulting in two apps syncyng same mails (you cant selectively disable gmail sync from google account).
Maybe im missing something as relativelly new android user or it looks like that system is set to use by default gmail app for google account defined mail and ignores system mail app, resulting in problems in (and not only) sense apps.

I'm picking this device up as it's announced Friday to be released here in the US on ATT. Until then, can't help much.
What i would try is hard reset phone, on intial setup do not sync with gmail as it asks, then once phone is set up open the default mail app, manually add your gmail account, now see if you get the home/lockscreen notifications you are looking for. If anything it would be a jellybean 4.1 or sense 4+ issue, doubt it's the actually hardware phone issue. Still though, you would think if you enter your gmail info from the set up prompt that it would sync with the gmail and stock mail app and work with all notifications? Would be dumb not to????
Hopefully can get some clarification on this before friday, if not then guess i'll find out myself.
By default if you fill in Google account during setup it links this mail to GMail app, which is hardcoded in system (cant uninstall, just disable). And it is not the same as default Mail app, which is of course worse than GMail so I would like to keep using GMail. But HTC uses more default Mail in its Sense UI as I mentioned, lockscreen notification (productivity screen) is hardcoded to Mail app only (tested) and Camera is offering Mail in first list for sending picture...

Wow well this sounds very stupid of HTC or whoever made this setup!!! Maybe someone can help us out then and figure a way for Sense and all the notification programs to use the Gmail app as well as the Yahoo or any other hard coded mail app upon intial setup! I know i'll then be in the same boat as you when i pick up my HOX+ from ATT this friday as i use yahoo, gmail, and outlook for work literally all day long! My work is basically through email when i'm not there so to have no or messed up email notifications on when they arrive, i'll be very upset about this!
Maybe a jellybean 4.1 or sense 4+ bug???

What email app are you using on your V10?

What email app are you using on your V10 and how do you like it?
I was using "Mailbox" from Dropbox but they are doing away with the app so I need something new that is fast and efficient.
I'm looking for an app that provides instant push notifications and has the little round badge count that shows up on the icon.
Any suggestions?
I use myMail: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.my.mail&hl=et
That's really good. There are ads sometimes, which are in your inbox after like every 10 mails or smth like that. But luckily those come very seldom.

That is. Very nice multi-account support; I do have 7 accounts configured there and it's been the best combined inbox experience for me with the most features.
Gmail / mymail
Stock.
Don't judge me.....
I just switched to the stock email client from cloudmagic. I like how I am able to just sign in the cloudmagic app on any phone and all of my email accounts along with set signatures will sync. No need to add each one.. I have 8 email accounts.
The only thing that is missing from the stock v10 email app is the ability to delete/mark read/archive from the notification. Other than that it is verry light and smooth. The search function is also quicker than cloudmagic.

I ended up using AquaMail Pro. It does everything the standard email & Gmail apps do plus it supports extras like.... I can send one email to a specific "group" in my contacts.
