[GSM] GSM ICS Leak [OTA] - Motorola Droid RAZR

Welcome to the GSM ICS 4.0.4 Leak
This is OTA
CAUTION: There is NO way back so far!
To install the Leak, follow these steps:
- Download the Leak: Netload.in OR Rapidshare.com
- Download the 2.3.6 T-Mobile: Download
- Reboot into Moto Recovery and perform a full wipe/ factory reset
- Reboot DIRECTLY into Fastboot AP and flash the 2.3.6 T-Mobile Rom with RSD
- root your device with motofail
- Download the voodoo OTA Rootkeeper from play store and install it
- open rootkeeper and click on backup root, then click on temp. unroot
- extract the zip file from the ICS Leak zip archive (you will get another zip file), then put the extracted zip file to the root of your external sd-card
- reboot your device into Moto recovery
- choose apply update from sd-card and choose the zip file, you've putted on the SDcard before
- after installing the update and reboot, just goto rootkeeper and choose restore root
- now you got a rooted ICS!
I take no responsibility for that. That's the way it worked for other users, but if something goes wrong, that's not my fault!
If you want to try the Nandroid Backup file or you need it anyway go here: ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1643425

It's an T-Mobile Branded Razr (GSM) and his current Version right now is
672.152.27.en.EU
What could be done to extract that ICS? I think, he has set his Accounts allready and don't want to share his E-Mails with us. Is there any way to get just the Systemfiles, so Devs can use them?

So, there's nothing we can do right now? He's new on the RazR (not even rooted it) and got it back from repair. So he was just happy and hit the Updatebutton...
I think we all can understand that ...

i read through the thread, and it seems like hes not gonna help out with anything. it seems hes on the soak test for gsm RAZR. if all goes well you should have it soon if youre on tmobile

definately not a soak test - Moto published this update not intentional

What about a nandroid backup? Maybe he could delete his gmail account and data before?

I think if we ask him, he would try to help. But like i sad, he's new to all of this.
Getting an T-Mobile Rom isn't so hard, downloaded it allready. But i'll keep my Widow till there other Users that got the Update.

Just one last question:
In case that another User get an Update, what exactly the steps to keep things save for leak.
We could make an Thread with intstructions an if the Mod has a good day, maybe pinned it on top.

1. Download the OTA and select install later when done.
2. Get the Astro File Manager app in G Play
3. Browse into root directory and get the file in /cache folder (file starts with Blur.xxx. ...zip)
This is the OTA file to be copied and pasted in sdcard
Go go!
Really good news.

Nice! Did you asked for a nandroid too? ICS is really coming man
thanks

I've asked him, if he tryed to Root with Casual, but he didn't even know what that is. So he couldn't make an Nandroid-Backup. I'll flash the T-Mobile Rom later that day and see what happens in the next few days (I realy don't wanna go with an branded Stock)
But look at the horizon > Can you see that big fat ICS coming

Right so someone explain this in english please..
Some guy in Germany has received his GSM RAZR back from repair and it has the ICS build on it?

That's right

He has get his RazR back from repair and it was still on 2.3.6.
He searched for an Update via OTA and there it happens. He recived the ICS.
And that's no troll or something like that.
I can definetly tell you, he got it. He has tryed to root with Motofail and Casual but nothing works for him.
Although his phone quality seems realy bad. So now he's looking for an way to flash back to 2.3.6, because RSD and FlashMe.bat didn't work.
Looks like he got a Beta or stuff like that.
We have contact to an Employe of Motorola and he told us, it was a Mistake and shouldn't happen.
I've flashed the T-Mobile branded Stock alredy, but no Update.
BTW: I know our English Skills not the best, but i'll bet they're better than your German Skills. We try our best ok.
And now i am out because it's time to party

Some Answers. Rooting + AIO tool (Condi's)

Hi All,
i have been trying to root mine for a while and found the answers to all the questions are all over the place so i thought i would put them into one place for the less experienced people such as my self. All info is valid as of todays date that i am aware of (10/4/2012)
1. Is the tablet rootable?
The sony tablet S is rootable if your build is below #10. AKA kernel 10 issue
2. Can you change back your kernel/build once on #10 to get root
No, although there are some reports of random build/kernel changes after a reboot. if you notice this i suggest rooting WITHOUT rebooting.
3. Will a factory or any other "reset" turn back my kernel/build to below #10
No, see number 2
4. Are there dates for when a workaround on build/kernel #10 will be available.
No, bare in mind the guys here at XDA dont get anything but donations and do the work FREE and in their OWN time. I would love to make someone just as much as the next guy, but they have jobs. so unless you are going to pay their bills and wages for a while, best to let them do it in their own time.
5. is there a more "for dummies" type tutorial on how to use Condi's AIO tool
Not that i have seen, and to be honest i think we could use one. but do note i am sure Condi has mentioned before his tool is designed to be used by experienced users. Condi may be able to confirm this if he reads my thread. please dont go hassling his if he doesnt.
6. When is ICS coming out.
Pick a date in your calendar and check back then. no one has any dates yet that i am aware of and i have googled my backside off trying to find it. Note though, there was some sort of release although the file wasnt there for ICS in the mexico region. read into that what you will.
7. Can you Root the Tablet from an application on the Tablet (like Gingerbreak for Xperia play) if you don't have access to a Computer.
For the time being NO. Thanks to lloytizzle for that one.
8. Will the new version of the AIO tool (2.6) from Condi root my kernel #10 tablet .
No.
No need to post replies here unless you are confirming or correcting my current finds.
The intention of this post is to save you some time reading through mass amounts of posts and google searches to find nothing YET is possible to deal with the #10 issue.
i will update this post if i find anything and will of course take note of any updates from people such as condi etc.
Q: Can you Root the Tablet from an application on the Tablet (like Gingerbreak for Xperia play) if you don't have access to a Computer.
A: For the time being NO.

Not for the moment - NO...
JAVA
Hi!
My Question regards to the rooting process point 7 which is:
Choose YES for sign new custom update
"JAVA required - if you dont have, then install it, and manually run 'Sign' function)"
What does it mean "JAVA required", is it this: http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
And what does it mean "manually run 'Sign' function" and what will happen if I just restart the rooting process after I have installed JAVA instead of manually run sign function?
Thank you for your answer!
I was on Android 3.2 With Kernel #10 on my Tablet S and was able to flash back to Kernel #5 with OTA via recovery, root with AIO, and install prerooted ICS.

Hey Stifilz,
I'm a noob when it comes to kernels and flashing stuff, so can you please tell me if this is correct ?
I'm also on 3.2k10, so if I upgrade to 3.2.1k5 , I will regain the possibility to root the tablet with AiO ?
Many thanks in advance for sorting things out.

You download the zip of the OTA you want to flash on to an SD card, then you reboot your tablet holding down the Vol - Up key to enter recovery. Then you choose to update from Zip on SD card and flash it.
You just need to make sure the OTA you're flashing is not Kernel 10.

Please find correct 3.2.1 from my signature link. Please note that some of these are kernel 10. Not sure which, though not many are k10.
Then follow instructions above ^^^^^.

Anything later than 3.2.1 kernel 9, i.e 3.2.1 kernel10 and any ICS have been patched (fixed by Sony) so that we CAN NOT use that exploit to gain Root access. We have been waiting for a new patch for atleast 4 months and TBH it is not looking good.

Correct OTA to flash?
Hey Guy's,
Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated !!
Could you please tell me how I can see what kernel build these posted OTA's have ?
Or can you please point me to the correct OTA to flash my tablet with so it does become an 3.2.1 no build 10?
My tablet version is a SGPT114FR/S FR5 16GB + 3G
If I"m correct , this should be the correct procedure to go to rooted ICS in my case :
- go from 3.2k10 to 3.2.1k(no10) like Sentinel169 mentioned above
- Install ADB drivers
- Root with AiO tool
- Create Rooted ICS with AiO , then flash to tablet (video made by BlueChipJ)
The only thing I haven't figured out yet is when in this procedure needs 'rescue backdoor' to be installed? Or gets it automaticly installed when the rooted ICS is created ?
Again thank you all for the help.

Got the 2.3.5 OTA pushed to my phone

Just got a notification that 1.3.418.en.US (34.6 MB) was available for update on my recently SBF'd to 2.3.4 X2. I haven't heard of 2.3.5 going out OTA, so is this news?
I assume this either means Moto is still going to give us support in the future or they just now remembered they had 2.3.5 soaking and decided to release it.

Nothing compared to the leaked 2.3.5 or nothing compared to 2.3.4?
2.3.5 update
Edit: Ok, install failed after it said successful, twice. Looks like if you are rooted you might have some issues installing the update. Oh well, not like the update really offers any advantages.
It doesn't fix any issues we've been having. I'm glad I can ditch this phone whenever a newer phone from Verizon is released. SGS3 pleeease.

if you rooted with zurgrush, it can change stock files, causing update to fail
if that happens, SBF to 2.3.4 is only option, and you may not lose data, then root with pete's root tools, backup su w/voodoo, install 1.3.418, restore su w/voodoo

Answers about OTA 2.3.5 Update
This update actually brings quite a bit of upgraded software, I actually called Motorola about this update and he named off like 20 new upgrades with this update. And overall this new update seems very responsive to touch you can def. tell that they made some upgrades to a few things. I would of never did this update if wouldnt have found out to get it rooted again and there is way.... many people may not know of it but, its out there checkout my thread in Droid X2 General for instructions on how to do this 2.3.5 update root method. GOOD LUCK.

when I flash a rom nothing happens, and I've tried several times

When I flash a rom on my razr cdma nothing happens. I mean that I follow all the steps and it goes through the process of saying it is installing the updates but when the phone turns on I'm still looking at the same old stock ICS. I have tried flashing miui and eclipse. I started with cwm recovery and later uninstalled that and installed razr bootstrapper (per instructions for eclipse on this site). I have no idea where I went wrong. at this point I'm wondering if I should unroot and re-root. Any help would be appreciated.
I think for CDMA its Safesatrap and not bootstrapper.
Try Whirleye's Bootmenu from the market. Rooting/re-rooting won't help.
Also, before every flash, make sure u have cleared dalvik/data/cache

Thank you, you are right (where is that thanks button anyway?) Any idea why when I originally started with cwm touch recovery that wasn't working either? That's the recovery I prefer to use because I'm familiar with it since I used another version on my Droid x.

Bootmenu is the best!
Thanks for the pep talk! I'm looking forward to using it. I will admit that it's a bit beyond my knowledge level but I'm learning. Right now I'm stuck on unpacking the 2 .rar files. It says that type of file cannot be opened. Should I ask this on the bootmenu tutorial thread?

I did all that and then I read the tutorial on this site and I'm following that. What am I missing? Can I just go to "1st system" and INSTALL A ZIP PACKAGE where it says "Rom manager (experimental)"?
What about your webtop? It's formated?
Sent from my XT910
Yes, my webtop is formatted.
What Rom you've tried? Just tried it on 2nd System?
And you purchased your RazR with ICS preinstalled?
Sent from my XT910
I haven't tried any roms yet with bootmenu manager. I haven't gotten to that point in the instructions. I tried miui with cwm and it didn't work. No, ICS was not pre-installed on my razr, I updated to ICS months before k rooted, but the bootmenu manager instructions say I must be on ICS 4.0.4 which I am.
You used the CWM Black (Touch) Edition? That's crap....
So you downloaded the BM App and then installed the packages through the App?
In my oppinion you got leftovers from the CWM on your Phone and these you only can kick off by SBF an clean ICS Stock Rom.
Sent from my XT910
yes, I used CWM Black and yes, I installed the BM app and did install the packages through the app but the only problem I've had is that I'm following the tutorial on this site on how to use BM and it says to download 2 files and unpack them. They are .rar files and i cannot open them. circleofomega has been helping me and questioned why I was trying to open .rar files. so I'm wondering can I just go to the "1st system" in the bm manager and just use "install a zip package" am I doing something wrong? BM manager is a bit more complicated than what I'm used to so I was following the instructions exactly. I appreciate everyone trying to help me learn.
You mean the 2 parts for the webtop signed? You don't need them! That's only, if you can't mount your webtop.
So, to test BM i recommend you to use the 2nd System. After that you can still crackflash your Main Rom. Charge your battery before you do anything.
Sent from my XT910
ok, that was not clear to me and I just re-read it in the tutorial and it's still not clear so thank you for explaining! I'm going straight to step 6 then..."ROM converter" I'll let you know how it works. Thanks again.

[HOW TO] Pull OTA Updates -- Now With App!

I am posting this as preparation for the official JB ota for the XT912 incoming... Last time it was very difficult to find someone who knew HOW to pull updates. Now there will be no excuse
Instructions for pulling an OTA update.zip:
Do NOT install the update! Do these first!
Be rooted. We got plenty of methods thanks to djrbliss.
Download the Root Explorer app, or the ES File Manager app. (Instructions are for Root Explorer.)
Open Root Explorer and go to the ~/cache/ directory, which resides on the root directory of the phone '~/'
Hit the 'Mount R/W' in the corner, if successful will then say 'Mount R/O'
Copy the update file .zip from the ~/cache/ to your sdcard, external to be safe.
Copy over the update file .zip from the sdcard(s) you chose to your computer and upload it. http://mega.co.nz/ is a good way to distribute large files for free.
You will want to use Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper before updating. --- Instructions for this are: Backup Root, Temp Unroot, Restore Root, Temp Unroot, Restore Root. ---
Send me or post a link here to the update and exactly what System Version you were on, and where the update takes you to.
The community will thank you for your help!
OR Use my new free app on the Google Play Store: OTA Snatcher
Download and install from the Play Store.
When your OTA is fully downloaded, go to OTA Snatcher and hit the "Snatch OTA" button.
Depending on how big the filesize of the OTA update.zip is, this can take anywhere from a few seconds to multiple minutes to copy over. It's safe to wait 5 minutes (you can lock your phone and do something else) while it copies.
Note: The app will NOT tell you when the copying is complete.
The OTA will be in your default storage's /OTA/ folder that OTA Snatcher has created. You can upload it and share it with everyone or keep it for yourself you selfish jerk
A note for the naming of update.zips:
They will always be named after the version that you are currently on, not the one you are going to. For example, when moving from Version 123-A to Version 124-B the zip would be named:
Blur_Version.123.A.XT912.Verizon.en.US and would NOT be named after where you are going to.

So its possible to both copy over the OTA until have copy on computer (leaving the original OTA file in cache directory) ... then backup to do the 'OTA Rootkeeper shuffle' and apply the OTA? Always thought grabbing the OTA before applying meant sacrificing doing the OTA. So glad for your post.
Apparently the 'OTA Rootkeeper shuffle' must mess with the OTA being able to detect root? When I tested those steps, could still use root apps like TiBu, but apparently the OTA can't see that, right? And the Superuser and Voodoo apps don't have to be removed from the phone?
Just want to be clear on all these steps so can properly prep.
Re: [HOW TO] Pull OTA Updates
Is all this necessary if I'm on ics 216,or can I get back to stock with dru

Using my instructions for Voodoo you still have root all the time... You do need root to do this.
OTA's don't detect Root for Motorola. OTA's detected missing or changed system files, and the boot.img.

great
all is does is cp ~/cache/update.zip /sdcard/OTA/ ?
i didn't get any otas yet, after i get the notification i press download and after it downloads the update it asks install now or later? can i miminize and go to home screen? it allows you to launch your application?
So, I got the mail from moto, I flashed back to stock, and haven't yet rooted, if i root and not mess with anything (ie install busybox, freeze apps, etc) I should be able to receive the ota, pull the ota, use voodoo to keep root and install the ota? Does voodoo have any advantage over the root keeper built into supersu or superuser?

I'm wondering the same thing can I be rooted, what can I remove or the system needs to be intact.. My opinion is that you need the exact firmware and IMEI.. Anybody knows?
matt in your OTA snatcher app you can check if the file/directory exists the app should start I can give you Linux commands if you don't know because it says starting even though there is nothing to copy

You can root and backup root with Voodoo and have no trouble updating.
If you remove or alter system files that already exist you cannot update.

Hello,
Thanks for signing up for the Droid RAZR / Droid RAZR Maxx Jelly Bean software test. The software should be pushed to your phone early tomorrow.
As expected, the number of Motorola Feedback Network *volunteers wildly exceeded our ability to*accommodate*everyone. But we don't want to leave anyone out, so we've split our testers into two groups.
One group will get the software and be asked for feedback in a private community. That group will also fill out an evaluation survey.
A second group will also get the software, and will be asked to fill out the evaluation survey only.
You have been selected as part of the first group. We're counting on your participation in the private community -- so please take part!
Your input is very important to us. To ensure we hear you, please follow these guidelines:
Please post all your feedback in our private community (link below). This also where you'll find help during the soak.
Please do not call or contact Motorola or Verizon support for help during the soak. Those teams are not yet ready to support this software.
I'm not able to check private messages on the forums during soaks, so if you need immediate help that's not a good route to take. Use the private area instead.
If you have any problems accessing the private community, please click here for help.
Please do not post questions publicly on our site or elsewhere.
Please start your visit to the private community here. You'll find additional important information in the Welcome message as soon as you sign in.
Thanks so much for your participation! We really appreciate your time and insights.

[MOD] Google Wallet fix (MUST have custom recovery)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282892
all support will be discussed in this thread.. i originally made this for the t-mobile variant. ATT users were able to push the files of the fix into their phone because they didnt have a custom recovery, and it worked..
It is now confirmed that an ATT user now with a custom recovery has flashed this fix and it is now confirmed working.
I now present this to you guys. Would love to see you guys with wallet working using verizon. feel free to test this, but i STRONGLY reccomend you making a backup, or having a rom saved on your sd card that you can revert to in case any errors come about. Im almost sure this will work successfully if the instructions are followed correctly.
thanks and if you have any questions, ask in my original wallet thread.

I was able to get it installed, card set back up in Wallet, Xposed installed, etc. without any problems. Rolled back the build.prop changes after getting it all configured and Wallet is still opening up fine. Won't be able to test it at a store until tomorrow.

great news!!
It says this is for only DEODEX ROMS, so if we are running the stock MDK ROM (rooted and unlocked) then it won't work?

Okay, so to recap. After rooting, I'll have to flash custom recovery, install deodexed rom, then try to install wallet as that thread states?

Thanks for the work!!
Ok, so I used root explorer to change the .prop lines then booted into recovery (twrp) and flashed the file listed and that went well.
Now, what permissions do I have to "fix" and how do I do that? I wasn't promoted nor saw an option to do this in TWRP recovery.
I rebooted and installed the wallet app from the play store, opened it, and now it seems to be stuck on "Setting up Wallet, this may take up to 5 minutes" and nothing happens.
What did I do wrong and how do I proceed?
Thanks in advance.
