Nandroid backup and restore with Amon-ra - HTC Rezound

I am used to making backups and restoring with CWR on my EVO but now that I have the Rezound and CWR does not work, I make Nandroid backups with Amon-ra but am not able to restore them. I read somewhere that some things need to checked while on recovery mode but I am not sure what. What do I need to do to make a proper Nandroid Backup? And also do I need to flash anything else after I restore a backup?

If restoring an ics build coming from ics(or gb to gb) no additional flashing should be needed. Should only be needing to backup system data cache and boot. If you do s-off exploit, you can restore boot.IMG directly through the nandroid.

I know for sure it works with amon ra. Flash it in recovery, I think it boots automatically afterwards into bootloader, flash the image, reboot and it will go back into recovery on its own then flash your nandroid. Then all should be well. Just flashing nandroid will not allow the phone to boot

I've restored several times through Amon Ra backups. I back up the usual stuff and the Android secure file. So far no problems at all.

I recieved my CLNR from verizon yesterday. Made a nandroid last night.
Today I have unlocked, rooted and now I am trying to restore my nandroid.
This is what it looks like:
x boot
x system
x data
x cache
recovery
sd-ext
x android_secure
android_secure_internalsd
perform restore
return
I hit perform restore and this is what happens
oops....something went wrong. Please check the recovery log!
What does that mean and where do I go from here?
Thanks
Heather

Same here. I switched to TWRP and no issues thus far.

Do any of you guys have the recovery log you could post. Might shed some light on the issue.

Nandroid Restoring problem

Hey guys, I have the twrp recovery (non touch screen version) and a lot of the times when I try to restore to sense (from miui) it just shuts off half way during the restore. Btw this is with more than 50% of battery life. Has anyone else been having issues with this

Try wiping before restoring

There are two versions of twrp, each can only restore backups that were made with that version

so id need to flash the sense rom and then restore it??
Idk what you mean. If you made a nand with the old version of twrp you need to flash that version them flash the nand, then flash the new twrp and nand it. Then you would have a band that could be flashed with the current 1.1.xxx twrp
sent from my EVO 3D via XDA app on ViperROM
I think what he's saying is that if you made a back up using the old 1.0.3 version of twrp it won't work on the 1.1.1 version which was the latest one before the touch interface recovery.

I have twrp v1.0.0. Whenever I flash miui and then decide to restore back to my sense rom through nandroid restore, it would just shut off.
Then I'd have to reflash the sense rom and start over..
To get sense to fully restore without my phone just shutting off halfway through should I flash sense, reboot the phone, then reboot to recovery and restore??
I hope this makes sense guys.

Try it. I had a similar issue, except it didn't shut off. Mine would just stop half way through restart. I ended up having to wipe and start over because somehow my nandroids got corrupted.
Comcastrated
u might want to try to flash recovery again. I had this issue with twrp. Some backups would not restore. I went back to cwm.
This happened to me also it ended up being how I renamed the backup.

Same thing happened to me on the OG Evo. At the time, did not know that renaming them would not let them restore properly.

[Recovery]ClockworkMod Recovery Now Official

CRW is now official on the Rezound. Both touch and non touch are available.
Regular: http://goo.gl/CF7LE and Touch: http://goo.gl/p0qY8
Enjoy!
You can do it through the new ROM Manager, but getting Touch that way isn't free.

Sweet. I actually have the choice between two recoveries.

Thx DSB9938.
Can some one tell me how to get this on my phone? Do you use adb and push the recovery.img to the phone in the fastboot menu? if so what is the command?
Thanks

Yes it is the same method via fastboot.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
I made a quick tool that will assist a first time user flash .img files here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416791
Or
As other stated you can manually enter the commands
Thanks for this dsb9938. I flashed this and it works but when I am using the backup feature it hangs and I have tried it 3-4 times and it hangs at different files during the backup of the system. Just reporting it to see if anyone else is having this issue.
Thanks
I had problems with the backup also. It completed the backup, but couldn't backup my cache. went back to Amon Ra for now.
Same here I went back to Amon Ra as well and was able to backup everything with no issues. Looks like CWM will be coming out with a newer version for the Rezound I would hope.

I wasn't expecting too much from this version of CWM, and I'm sure it will get straightened out soon. Just happy to see options being rolled out so quickly.
Wasn't expecting too much? Kinda rude.
I have done several backups and restores, on several devices.
Sometimes it stops for a minute, I don't know why, but it always finishes.
If you have problems with it, there's still the other one. And I hear twerp will be out soon.
I'm sure koush will do an official build soon, I just like cwr and didn't wanna wait.
D
Just wanted to say, works fine; and I love you for this. Way to be impatient too!
Downloaded and installed. Ran my first backup. Will try flashing a ROM from zip shortly.
Worked like a charm, as always. The print on the phone is WAY too small for my old eyes, but other than that: perfect.
Will i be able to restore a nand backup i made from amon thru cwm? Or do i need to re backup in cwn

I didn't mean any offense. I apologize. Tried CWM again and it backed up flawlessly. Not sure what the issue was the first go around. Anyway, thank you for the release!
Mine hung during a backup as well. Going to try it again to see if the backup completes.
I've been using CWM since I began rooting so I'm glad to have this option. Thanks!
EDIT: Just ran a backup right now and worked perfectly! It was the 3rd attempt but all is good.
Any advantages of CWM vs ArA?

Borked? ?

I rooted my buddies phone for him pretty much so he could use wifi tether. Told him to make a nandroid before he does anything. He said he did. He called me this am and said he tried to flash an ics ROM from Scott's site and now his phone won't boot past the HTC screen. He said he tried to retire the backup but it didn't work nor did a factory reset.
Can I just get him to flash a GB based ROM and get him back to square one or must I get an ics ROM loaded up since he already tried to get that on there?
Can I just have him load the stock ruu for GB? Where can I locate that?
He might have forgot the pg98img?? I know it happened to me when i first had ics
What did you do to fix the problem? He has never flashed anything so he probably forgot something. Just trying to figure out what I need to do to fix his phone when I see him later tonight.

Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it
Your "friend" (lol, j/k) should be able to do a battery pull, get back into recovery and then just start the process of flashing a new ROM again. Have him wipe the cache and dalvik cache first. I don't know why the nand won't restore, maybe he didn't make it properly?
Is he using Amon Ra? CWM was known to be buggy on this phone, don't know if that has been addressed. If he's using CWM then maybe he should switch to Amon Ra. iirc it can also restore a nand made in CWM.

Thanks for the reply. My rezound is running smoothly! My buddy should have hit me up before trying to flash anything but he didn't. I'm running Amom but when I tried to install it on his phone it wouldn't take so I installed cwm. He said he made a backup but it won't restore. I will try to install Amon again on his phone and see if I can get his back up to work. I have a nand on my phone off the stock ROM. Do you think I can use my sd card in his phone and try to restore that or is it phone specific? I wouldn't think it is though
I don't know about restoring someone else's nand.
Also, if he gets a mainver error check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459347
But if you flash in fastboot you don't have to worry about mainver, it will flash no problem.
You can find out what mainver the phone is on in fastboot using the following command:
fastboot getvar all

[Q] Need help restoring a backup in TWRP

I made a backup of my HTC EVO LTE Stock ROM in TWRP, I flashed CMX, now I want to go back to Stock, so I went to TWRP>Install, I can see my backup folder under /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/name of backup.. but I when I select the folder it does not give me the option to Install it. It just opens as an empty folder. I did notice the folder is not in a .zip format. Is this the reason why? Did I miss something during the back up process? And if so, how can I fix it? Is it as easy as just converting the regular folder into a .zip folder then try to install it this way?.. Please tell me not everything is lost, lol.. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

There should be a restore option on the main screen in twrp recovery. If you hit that it will allow you to choose what file you want to restore

Need to Restore But Getting Black Screen
Okay so my situation is similiar to the OP.
I was running CM10 then a custom sense Rom.
I made an original backup, but when I restore it I get a black screen at boot.
Typically when I flash a Rom I have to fastboot flash the boot.img which is no biggie, but there's no boot.img that I can find in the twrp backup.
Might be just as easy to flash a stock Rom, but not sure exactly where to find one. Everything I've found is rooted or custom in some way.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

The ROM I'm trying to restore is the original state of my phone. Would this be a stock ROM with a versioning date of October 28th(the day I got my phone and made the backup), current stock ROMs, or launch stock ROMs. Basically will any boot.img work from a stock ROM?
I do see the boot sector being written during the restore process. There is a boot.something.win file in the backup folder for the backup. Can this be fastbooted? I'm a bit timid to try that, but thinking it may be worth a shot...

Thanks for the quick reply, QuickWizard is very fitting. I actually got it after I finished going my own route though.
I grew a pair and went with my got and I went ahead and flashed the boot.emmc.win from the twrp backup in flashboot. It successfully got me booted and logged into the phone. That said the stock rom is so crappy...
But, I was having issues on CM10 with MHL, on a "stock rom with goodies" I was having radio issues with the latest firmawares, so now it's back to my rooted stock backup and I'm doing the HTC System OTA update... Should be interesting what happens next...
Again thank you all with the quick replies!

Just wipe in Aron Ra and then restore from your nandroid. I commonly jump from Rom to Rom, just make sure you wipe in between.
Yupyup your nandroid reverts you to whatever that particular nandroid saved..

Thanks guys. I'm not sure what is wrong with my phone. Clean ROM 4.3 was the only one that would work for me, until this morning. I finally got RAGE1.8 to work. All other ROMs would boot loop, including all Clean ROMs after 4.3. I had been reinstalling Clean ROM and then restoring the nandriod, I'm glad I can skip one step if I need to go back.
Make sure you wipe before you restore a nandroid. If you don't it could cause it to bootloop.
Also if you're s on it could be an issue with kernel compatibility

I am S on. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought loading the PH98IMG file in the bootloader was loading the kernel.
First, you really should S-Off, it will make it a whole lot easier, it will allow you to jump from Rom to Rom a lot easier. Be careful because some new roms call for the latest firmware to run correctly.
