Hello my name is Alex. I got my HTC Amaze yesterday. I'm interested in updating to ICS.
If I am to install the leaked RUU, will I be able to go back to Gingerbread if I don't like the new UI?
Edit For Clarification: I have not rooted or modified my phone yet, but would feel comfortable doing stop I'd necessary.

Just had a quick question, I'm kinda new here. I currently have a rooted Epic w/ the leaked 2.2 version that came out a few weeks back. *Supposedly* sammy will be releasing the OFFICIAL 2.2 on 12/26, so I was thinking of going back to the stock 2.1 (it seemed to be a lot faster and less buggy) until the official 2.2 comes out. Are there any drawbacks to this? Will I lose any of my apps that I currently have installed? Can someone point me in the right direction for how to go about doing this? I imagine there's probably a thread or two hanging out there somewhere about this. Thanks.
Bump...anything? Would be a great xmas present.
You should have backed up your original ROM in recovery before you flashed 2.2.
Cool story bro
Hey guys, Im completely new to rooting and im getting a rezound in a couple days and i just had a few simple questions that i couldnt find the answers too else where.
1. If I root my rezound will i still be able to receive all the regular updates like the verizon updates and upcoming OS updates? If not what can i do to get those?(Correct me if im wrong but I would assume that i would have to reverse my root somehow if the answer was no but im not sure how to do that)
2. If i root do i have to install a ROM?(Note:Im planning to remove htc sense as soon as i root and install a new launcher...idk if that has anything to do with having to install a ROM but i figured i should ask)
if you plan to stay on the original rom after you root, im pretty sure that you will be able to recieve the actual ota when its released. but you say that you plan to delete a lot of htc stuff (im assuming bloatware and things like that)...i would HIGHLY recommend just flashing a rom with all of that done for you. unless you know what youre doing, removing htc stuff by yourself can be detrimental to your phone and cause it to not work as it should. im currently running cleanrom 4.1 and its incredible. flashing a rom would be the best way to go
hope this helped.
yes that help, thanks. so if i were to use cleanrom 4.1 and i wanted to get the official ICS update when it released, what would have to do to be able to install it?
Forgive me for being a noob but I am going to attempt my first post I usually just read but feel I may be able to give a quality answer. SO, If you make a nandroid backup before flashing any rom's you will be able to revert back to stock at any time. You can do this via a custom recovery. In order to get an OTA, like the ICS one that is coming soon, you will have to reload your stock rom. Simply put, you cannot get an OTA with a custom rom. If you want a custom rom now and an OTA update later, make a backup and revert back to it when the OTA you want is released. Hope this helps!
One thing that nobody seems to ever mention is do NOT do anything to your phone for the first 30 days because you want to make sure you have a solid phone.
If your phone is constantly malfunctioning because of a problem with the phone, but you have already rooted your phone and flashed a new ROM, then you're going to be nothing but frustrated because you will think it's the ROM, or perhaps something you did when rooting the phone.
If you have a problem within the first 30 days and you have not rooted or flashed a new ROM all you do is walk in to Verizon, tell them the phone is brand new, but having issues with [insert problem here] and you get a brand new phone with all your info transfered for free, and another 30 days to make sure your replacement is not defective as well.

very good tips! thanks guys, your answers are highly appreciated!

What device are you coming from? I went from an OG Droid1 to the Rezound and actually love Sense. I think you should try it out first before cutting it out completely. If you wish you can leave the stock Status Bar/SystemUI and install a different launcher as that will disable most of the Sense elements, ~90% of it. As far as OTA's go, unconfirmed whether or not you can update from the recent leak. Make sure you have stock rom available or do not flash the recent leak and choose one of the older roms (Can always RUU back to the stock rom when official hits). I suggest Rezrom 3.1 with the old firmware patch as for me it's been so far the most stable and best battery life ICS rom I have used.
1. No, you won't be able to get OTA updates. But don't worry too much about that. It takes about a week, but the devs will post a manual method or you can use the RUU that usually preceeds the OTA by a day or two.
2. Don't try to disable sense from the stock ROM. It'll be trouble, I tried it for a while back when we only had temp root and it made it buggy and smoked the battery. Flash some ROMs and let the pros get that stuff worked out for you (and throw your favorite dev a few bucks to keep him interested!)
The real consequence of rooting though is the countless late nights flashing yet another new build or theme or whatever. It's kind of addicting.
Just got my rezound today, experienced flasher, but with s-off phones.
I have successfully unlocked the bootloader, and rooted the phone and installed the amon-ra custom recovery, from what I've read it seems to be the most popular for this phone, if another one is better please let me know.
But the flashing of custom roms has me a little confused and I couldn't find a good guide to do it, what I want to do is keep my gb bootloader, so I can get s-off when it comes out and install a fairly stock rooted rom based on the ICS OTA with wireless tether capability
Is BAMF Rezound ICS v2.1 Official based on the OTA, I'm not familair with rezound firmware history, if not which are and what steps do I have to take to install it.
I read something about bootloops if you don't install a fix.
Thank you very much for any help you can provide
BAMF ICS 2.1 is a good stable option for a custom ICS rom. Its very stable and fluid and fairly close to stock ICS with Sense 3.6. It has a few tweaks Joel threw it but all the core components are there. As a far as keeping the same bootloader that you mentioned there is a patch in that thread that has to be flashed since you are not gonna be on the lastest HBoot or firmware. Just make sure to flash the kernel since we don't have S-Off.
Hey, I just ditched my faithful fully working Blackberry and got an used Atrix. It is rooted and unlocked, It is running Cyanogen.
I thinking I want to flash it back to stock. I'm tired of the camera saying no external storage hooked up. Email not working properly. Trebuchet has stopped working...
So I'd like to flash it back to the latest stock release/update...
Is there a guide or a sticky?
Or how would I go about it?
Or is there a stable release someone could suggest...:fingers-crossed:
Love the phone, hate the hassle so far...my bb was slow and ugly but at least it worked...lol
Any help appreciated!!
Cheers
For a fully functional alternative for stock (which sucks) find the cm7 thread in development section. Since its unlocked already it should have a custom recovery and be able to be flashed easily.
You may check for some info here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
However, flash a wrong stock rom may accidently brick your device, so you'd better think twice.
I guys, I'm an occasional lurker that has a question for all you people that may be able to help. I have a Sprint Evo 4g LTE that has never been flashed and has only had stock updates up until this point. Personally, I liked ICS more and thought it acted faster. I attempted to flash it with a stock ics (the newest ics firmware) and the utility indicated that it was mismatched. I thought I'd ask here before I went on so I don't brick the phone. What I'm wondering is what does it take to get it back to the stock ICS? If I have to go through all the s-off and maybe some hboot stuff, is there a popular ICS firmware that I should use and skip the official?
I read a few results from my searches but I found a lot of questions that included their phone already being rooted and such. I don't really care about the rootage...just looking to get back to ICS.
Thanks in advance.
The only way for you is to root/unlock your phone and flash an ICS rom like mean rom ics which was packed with a lot of features, debloated, great battery life, etc... If you try to RUU back to ICS you might end up with a brick, I advise you against that, be careful and look for bigdaddy619 root guide and if you want the full experience get your phone s-off, of you only do the unlock thru htc dev you will have to flash the rom in a special way because the kernel/boot.img has to be flashed separately, anyways mean rom has this baked in so after you unlock/root and/or get s-off head to the original development thread and look for mean rom ics... Remember that before you do anything you will need to backup your personal stuff because the first step (htcdev.com unlock) deletes everything... Good luck!
