So i decided to flash back to stock gingerbread (v20a Telus canada) rooted, recovery etc.... but when i attemp to flash a custom kernel all is well until, i get to the lockscreen, everything is all green everywhere, and very very low resolution. im not quite sure what the problem is, i cleared my caches before and after flash also??
> mind tellin what kernel u flashed?
I tried djnoxd kernel and thundervn kernel and they both gave me same problem. Both times I had to restore via backup.
Solved my problem. I had to wipe dalvik-cache manually via root browser in path /data/dalvik-cache/ recovery was not wiping for some odd reason... flashed caf kernel and all is well

What actually fixes this problem is flashing of.the new gpu libs. And since the caf kernel at the time didn't use these new libs. It worked fine on stock rom

I'm on CM7.
KB5 i was using it before i flashed this onto it.
dont know anything about cm7 so not going to give advice, i'll probably make it worse
good luck
Did you do Neo 06?
My suggestions:
Every kernel installation:
1) Backup your current ROM!
2) In CWM:
+ Wipe Cache Partition
+ Install zip from SD Card
+ Advanced: Wipe Dalvik Cache
+ Advanced: Fix Permissions
3) Reboot
4) Wait 10 Minutes, Reboot.
If this doesn't work for your issue, then bite the smaller bullet and do a Factory Wipe/Data Reset (larger bullet being ODIN to stock, but that seems like overkill for this type of thing).
I've run into this baseband issue with prior Platypus and Kernel du Jours, but the lastest Neo 06 really seems to be rock solid.
Good luck!
Do you have an efsrestore.zip you can flash?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Ive had this issue before a while back with cm7. I had gone the route of backing up my efs in case my imei number had been lost during the flashing process. Well, one day it happened, no signal and baseband was listed as unknown. Flash my efsrestore.zip file and had signal again. I could be wrong but you might need to odin, create the efs backup and then flash the .zip created if u have problems in the future. Hope this helps.

i had that issue when flashing a certain cm7 nightly. i pushed the kb5 modem.bin file to /radio/ and set permissions. (using root explorer)
try that first.
You most likely flashed the old Ril version. You need the one with the new Ril.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I tried both.
After doing something different apparently, i got it to work.
But the signals for both signal and wifi would both be white.
so phone worked, but wifi did not.
So i odin'd again
and i'm re-trying.
I don't think this neo kernel is for me...
I've odin'd 5 times today, because of it and me trying to get it to work.
I may try ONE more more time because this is giving me a headache.
Tried for the last time.
Did not work.
Either made my wifi not work. or my signal not work.
try to Flash / reflash a modem (radio). Its worked for me in the past.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110500
Or push (root explorer) a different modem.bin to /radio
Hey GUIs...I recently used the HTC official unlck to unlock ny EVO 3s and then I installed a ROM...I thought that the ROM might be the problem but it wasn't....first off when I installed it my Wimax, camera,WiFi, or video playback didn't work...she. I flashed the damn Sprint ROM back and still had the sane problems? Any thoughts?
What rom did you install? Did you install the kernal to go with that rom? Did you re-install the stock kernal when you went back to the stock rom?

You need the appropriate kernel for the rom to run properly. Kernels for each rom should be listed in the rom thread. If you are on hboot 1.5 you will have to flash the kernel separately in the bootloader or with the Flash GUI app.

so even with me messing up the kernel once if i find the correct kernel everything will revert and work? because when i flashed miui it stuck on the startup screen and never loaded past that so if i find the kernel that solves everything?
I would at least wipe cache and dalvik after flashing the kernel. If you run into problems, you may need to fully wipe, then install the rom from stratch, then install the kernel right after.

Well yeah thats the problem i did it using the flash gui app...the first kernel i tried which was a tiamut kernel didnt load....so i used rcmix_3d_evo_kernel...it accepted, when it went into reboot. it never loaded after that. But now when i go into my recovery...i can actually unpack that zip now. when beforehand, it would alwasy fail...does that mean something? im trying the way you just said by flashing it, then wipping the dalvik and cache and then flashing my rom, basically right now im bricked unless this works, and the way to help me not be bricked doesnt work because megaupload has been seized so i cant get the cwm to make my sd card. RUU doesnt work to flash it back to stock. Im pretty much stuck with a bricked phone...hopefully i find a way around this. theres a thread on here that refers to other people being bricked from this exact kernel.

Hey you really helped me, i ended up being bricked but what i had to do was flash the kernel twice or idk exactly which worked but i had to fastboot flash the boot.img from the ROM i were gonna use and flash the kernel...now all of my things are back working, 4g, wifi, video playback and everyting...the thing is the kernel was a defective kernel IF NOT FLASHED CORRECTLY.
So this is my first time doing this, but my device is S-OFF unlocked and had the ICS firmware on it including the 3.14 Kernal.
So i decided to flash Newts rom , i erased the big 3; 3 times and installed the rom from recovery menu, then i used this script http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419587 to flash the sense4 boot.img file that is attached.
Now my kernal is version 3.014 or something like that and im getting force closes on the backup assistant and stock email app. Did i mess up somewhere or should i reflash the ICS kernal 3.14?
It probably wouldn't hurt to just reflash the ROM over top of what you have. Wipe cache and dalvik first. If you're S-Off, the boot.img will flash in recovery just fine.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I just reflashed both files and the same issues persists, the img.boot file that comes with the rom downgrades my kernal.
Also another issue is that my 32gb card is only showing 100kbps even after reflashing and reformatting.
The kernel should be packaged with the ROM.
Hmmmm. Maybe do a full wipe, then reflash the ROM?
Or you could try Sebastian's ICS kernel. Its working great for me on Venasaur.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Yea i see the kernal get installed with the ROM but once everything is done, still the kernal version is lower than when i was on stock ICS RUU.
Since you're S-Off, try it without the script.
That script is for the S-On types.

The kernel version should not matter if the Rom works
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
The kernel that comes with the Sense 4 roms is modified to work with them, it's not going to be the same version level as the RUU most likely. Also, since you're s-off, it gets flashed automatically, stop flashing it separately.
After running just about every ROM for this device, I recently flashed my first stock based ROM (cooked 1.8). However since this time I've been unable to flash back to any aosp ROM. I get boot looped on every one. I've tried everything. Yet, I can flash cooked again no problem. I know there's something I'm missing. Any help would be great.

You have a nandroid backup right? Restore that then flash whatever you want.

Backup won't boot either. That was my first plan.

Have you tried to format system under mounts and storage after your factory reset, and before you flash your rom and gapps? Just a suggestion. Not sure it will fix you problem or not. It seems as if I had a problem similar to what you are describing after running a Samsung based rom in the past. I believe that was the cure to my issue.

Search for Siyah kernel v4.3.3 in the forums and install, restart recovery and flash away. Should take care of it.

I always have kept that kernel on standby but that didn't work. I've tried every kernel. Can't believe backups won't even boot. I flashed cook's ROM wipe before his ROM the first time, wonder if that did something.

Try Odin to stock and start from scratch. A lot of work but hey what do you have to lose.

First find a compatible Kernel for the AOSP ROM your trying to flash. Flash that Kernel.
Second, after the flashing is done, reformat the device; cache, dalkiv cache and system and system settings.
Third, reboot into recovery mode from the recovery menu itself.
Fourth, flash the kernel one more time.
Fifth, flash the AOSP ROM of your choice.
Sixth, reboot back into recovery menu.
Seventh, reformat once more.
Eigth, reboot the device.
As you should know, the first boot up after flashing a ROM takes the longest. Give it like a minute or two.
If this doesn't work, you have to flash a kernel that was compatible with the "cooked" rom you were using. Then from there do a reformat from the recovery menu. Once reformat is done, flash the AOSP kernel, then flash the AOSP ROM right after. Then reformat once more and reboot as normal.
If that doesn't work, flash compatible kernel with the "cooked" ROM your using now and also relay the cooked ROM, and then use Odin to bring it back to stock un-rooted. From there, do as you wish.

That is exactly what needed to be done. Mr cook actually has another thread with cwm flashable wipe scripts that would have done that. Quite handy
Hi there,
My SIII i9300 has been rooted and flashed with CM from CM 10.x to 11.x. Hoewever, recently it started to not give any audio during voice calls trough the normal mic. Speakers do work.
So, i've tried reflashing, clearing cache / dalvik etc. To no avail.
I then tried stock rom and for some reason this seems to do the trick.
As i'm not really a great fan of the Samsung bloatware and the 'awesome' skin overlay of samsung i would like to fix this issue.
I also tried some different roms to no avail. ( Also, i installed cm 10.2 because that used to be working fine)
I then tried installing different modems via CWM and ODIN. (BUELK1) and (CEEL1). It's a dutch phone on vodafone.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Btw, currently i'm running CM 11 nightly see below. Android 4.4.2
My baceband is currently i9300CEELL1
Kernel version 3.0.64-CM-gb1c5066
CM 11-20140228
greetinges, Volc
Try installing the ROM before wiping everything, including System ( data is recommended, as long as you don't have something important not backed up). And with 4.4 try to use MK6 modem or higher.

Hi Andry!
Many thanks for your reply. So I should turn back stock, install cm and that mk6 without wiping? I'm not sure if cm will install without the wipe..
The mk6 modem, do you have any clue where to search it?

I thought you found the modems on www.boeffla-kernel.de . You can find them in the Download section. Also, if you are on CM11 (or any other ROM actually), you should download the ROM tog want to flash on your external SD Card, reboot into recovery, wipe system, cache, dalvik cache and data, flash the ROM, reboot system and use it for a few moments at least ( I would recommend you do that so that you won't get bootloop). Then, reboot into download mode, connect phone to Odin and flash the ROM. I would recommend wipe shading cache and dalvik cache, just for a flawless experience.

I saw this phone firsthand. (Hi volcomoo!)
The roms were flashed OK, double triple quadruple wiping probably wont make any difference.
The weird thing is that with CM installed there seems to be a hardware issue, when we flash the phone back to stock, everything works. I guess the developers will say "logcat or it didn't happen"....
