[Q] AOSP daily driver suggestions? - HTC EVO 3D

I'm looking for, and can't seem to find, a good aosp rom for the evo3d.
What I want is camera, wifi, bluetooth. I am not expecting the 3d features at all.
What do you guys suggest?

None have a working camera. Kushdeck is the best I've used so far, though.

thanks, that's what i was seeing but haven't had my 3d for long.
maybe we'll see the official ICS in the next couple months

Suggest a Rom for my Gtab

So I took the plunge and bought my self a Gtab, not too keen on blowing ridiculous amounts of money on tech, so for the specs and price tag the Gtab seemed to be the best bet.
Now I am fairly comfortable flashing Roms, I just would like some input from the community.
So whats the most functional and stable rom available currently?
CM7 has always been my go to first base rom for pretty much any phone I have flashed, but I dont quite like it on my Nook Color, its fairly buggy, but I blame the nook not CM7
but Hardware Acceleration sounds nice, and I know that none of the Comb roms have it, but neither do the GB Roms either right?
Looks like Clemsyns V8 is probably the best 2.2 rom out, but how is it in terms of functionality and compatibility with newer 3d games and other applications?
any other input would be greatly appreciated, I just figured I ask before I go on a flash spree, because it usually takes me a couple weeks of flashing this and flashing that before I settle on a rom and I didnt really want to drag this out that long. I just wanna flash, and use until ICS Stable Rom is released.
FrankenTab and Beastly ROMs are FroYo based and should have hardware acceleration, camera and video support. Plus, they are actively being updated. They aren't Honeycomb, and I still prefer VeganTAB 7.1 (even without hardware acceleration), but the FroYo ROMs will pretty much have everything working until a stable ICS version hits.

I've tried most of them at some point I guess it matters what you are willing to sacrifice. I love the look and feel of Flashback but no hardware acceleration, no camera, more ram used by the system ... (all Honeycomb roms are like that).
CM7 works great and I keep one gtab on it. MX Player has Tegra 2 software acceleration for video and most games and apps work. Has been very stable for 4 months, not buggy at all and looks great.
My other gtablet has landed on Beasty-Clemsyn. It is a Froyo rom, very stable and very fast with full hardware acceleration. I ended up here because everything just works like it is supposed to. Installed the new market, flashplayer, new version of VTL launcher and I really like it. It will hold me over till an ICS rom comes out.
FrankenTab and Beastly
I've been switching between FrankenTab and Beastly myself.
I think FrankenTab looks nicer overall but I've run across less issues with the Beastly rom and so I've settled with that until ICS is released for our G Tab.
Let us know which roms you try and your experience with them.
I am pleased that my FrankenTAB ROM has found its way over to XDA.
I would love to hear any issues users are having since we are actively developing this ROM (currently working on v1.0.2), but I cant help over here yet with an official support thread. If anyone needs help, you can PM me here, or google FrankenTAB and look for the original and most active thread for it on the site that starts with an "S".
Franken Tab is a great rom, I also went through allot of flashing trying different roms, soon the ICS ROM will be around and I am using the pre-alpha so what ever you decide set up for 1.2Bl and the latest CWM touch version. its coming n its cool.
Yup FrankenTab is the first rom I have flashed on this thing, and I am liking it so far.
-great wifi integrity
-fast as hell
-and the included VTL launcher is nice too.
plus having the ability speak with the Dev directly about suggestions and bugs is very nice as well.
If you want Flash to work well are you limited to 2.2 ROMs?

Flash works fine in 2.2 and 2.3 based ROMs. I have it working just fine in VeganTab GE 7.1.
From what I understand, it works (with caveats and quirks) in Honeycomb, and only with certain versions of Flash.
Sadly after messing with Franken and Beastly, I found my self at CM7s door.
Franken had me really really excited at first, it was fast, it was responsive, I only had it set at 1.33ghz, but there were a few issues with both that I found a bit to unstable for my taste.
Will see how CM7 holds me over.
I love 1.09 frankentab. It performs better then anything I have tried but is way behind brilliant corners in bench mark tests. I can't figure that out because it's seems 5 times faster in real life.

Hello,
I have had my Gtablet for about a year, and I have tried many roms.
FY,GB,HC,ICS,etc. Various incarnations. (Well, only 1 ICS)
From my understanding, Viewsonic, like many companies,
uses various suppliers for components, so the individual results with roms will vary.
And the physical build may vary. eg/ Volume (+) is actually (-)
(this is a reported build difference that my tablet has)
I seem to come back to Froyo roms for many reasons. Base platform OS.
Hardware acceleration. Stability. Etc.
Personally, I haven't found a newer gen rom that works as well as Froyo.
As stated on this and other sites, Be sure you follow the recomended
procedures for pre and post install. usually posted in the OP.
Really get to know and understand NVflash.
I always come back to the C+C rom final version. Beasty, although nice,
wouldn't do what C+C does for me.
I use my tablet as much, if not more than I use my PC, and I can run Splashtop
to access my pc, which is cool.
I do find certain games or apps that wont work, but, I am patient.
No problems with google apps.
It really comes down to researching, and testing, and finding out
the best rom for you and your tablet.
After all, this support, is almost free. Kudos to the devs.
J.
sorry. this is on another post. hope that is ok.
I've been on FrankenTAB 1.0.9 for two weeks or so and so far one of the best Froyo ROM's I've tried. I flashed quite a few ROM's for the 1.2BL but this one seems to work the best for me at the moment.
I just put the ICS rom on my gtab, and it looks great. Installing it wasn't that hard, I did have to switch bootloaders to 1.2. The only issue is I can't get my external SD card to work. I love using chrome.
In ICS, the external sd card is not named the way it is in other ICS distributions...look for /microsd folder instead of /emmc or /sdcard/external_sd like you may be used to.
If anyone is already on BL 1.2, ICS is definitely worth installing. The only two things that I've found that do not work are the camera and microphone but for me both are non-issues.
Hello ive been using my gtab with tnt rom and it runs really good

JellyBean ported to our Flyer

Well,
i tried to see if the jellybean could somehow run, and currently it seems to run just as the ICS port that chaos did.
im still struggling with the bluetooth on it, but basically it seems to work, i still am not sure its h/w/egl accelerated.
but it runs, but looks pretty much like our ICS build with pretty much the same flaws and problems, except it using framework from 4.1.1.
im testing gps and other part the next days and might upload but cannot promise continued work on it, since our kernel is still the primary reason for missing camera and proper app switching and performance tweaks of kernel 3.x.
btw, it was based based on desireHD+tf201 builds. libs of DHD and framework from tf201 (got AdvancedPowerMenu builtin)
got problems with 160 as density, then its still with mobile view, 120 works, but very small.
Hi any news on development with port on one v ?
Is that his would be more functional to have a port with the htc ville C2? with HTC Sense
Thx for trying Dexter. How r the odds to improve the port? Same as XXL port?

well,
it goes forward. wifi, gps, compass, sound, vibrator, accelerometer, light sensor ..works..
camera, bluetooth and a fuzzy touch display when scrolling(as seen in other ics port)
I think the mobile view your seeing is the new 7 inch tablet mode. Basically the ui and launcher all look like a phone, while all the apps run in tablet view. I'm mixed on it myself, would be ok with it if the launcher worked in tablet mode. Good job nonetheless and good luck!

For me scrolling issue is the most annoying. It doesn't let us feel the fluidity of ICS and JB. And, fluidity is the USP of these higher versions. Though I use camera often also, but fluid scrolling is must for me. And, this is our main reason why we want ics on our device.

agree, and that is part of the onexxl rom, but sorry, i do not see it here and display drivers are not compatible.
but important is also that drivers are not native for this device, i might be in better luck porting a OneV rom, when its official.
i tried parts of the nexus one where possible, and still not much improved here.
camera i live without, i got a mobile + real camera beside this one.
So I guess Drew will not release his "build" because you have one now?

well, i am trying to port kernel changes to this rom, since chaos kernel compile, disables touch display for me, so im trying to see if i can get better performance on it with chaos work here, but unlike others, i cannot promise it works out. i am just trying for the fun.
i move from the tf201/dhd release to the official ota from nexus , so its odex'd for now, but does boot faster
okay,
i spend quite some time on it, and still no real progress.
media player is not using hardware decoding. and seems unstable when playing games.
i thought i had netflix working, but only upto playing a movie, and it went playing without picture
so for now, i am gonna rest on this work. it looked ok, but i do not accept all the bad flaws of it.
ill post an update, if i continue to look at it. for now i'm back at OneXXL
i decided to upload my work, with the recent changes done. you will find it online soon through this thread here

What happens to camera with custom ROM?

I've had the One XL since the start and have flashed every worthwhile ROM I wanted. The constant with non-sense roms has been the troubles with camera or limited integration. I find myself wondering as I wait for my new One to arrive, "will I only have a 4mp camera because htc won't release drivers for the camera?" Any insight would be appreciated, hopefully from one of the anticipating devs. Thanks!
That's a question that can't be answered until some one builds an aosp ROM for this phone. But I would really be surprised if the camera was open sourced. It's going to be hacked in I imagine.
I'm also worried about the loss of IR blasting with an AOSP ROM.
And this is pretty much why I'll be sticking to custom Sense based ROM's. HTC didn't release source for the ImageSense chip in the One X (not to my knowledge) and most of the features of the Sense 4 camera weren't present in CM builds. HTC put even more into their camera software this time around and losing all of that with an AOSP build just seems rather extreme. Will see though, maybe some dev will get crafty with the camera software.
The time I spent with the phone in the store I tried to find a reason why I would rather run an AOSP ROM on it but I was very well satisfied with the speed, smoothness, and class the One comes with out the box. I believe soon the only reason why we will flash a ROM is to play with theming only as oppose to speed and performance with what these phones are popping out the box!
I'm not an addict I just flash a lot.

Yeah Sense 5 is pretty snazzy looking IMO. I think I'm gonna like it better than stock. Still want to unlock the bootloader and root though so I can flash a sound mod. Always like me some better audio!

[Q] is Evo 3D still worth it?

Hi, im getting the Evo 3D veeery soon (from my dad, he uses it now). I know it's 2 years old phone and i will use it for 1 or more years. My question is, is it still worth it? I will use it MAINLY for Internet, games, YouTube videos etc. Should i have it, or ask him for newer phone? I won't flash any custom ROM, cuz i will use 3D and i need warranty (even thought he has the Otter Box on it )

IMHO I think that it's still a good device with decent specifications, and after all Android 4.o is stil compatible with almost all the apps (games) on Google play store. And yes, I find 3D photos very cool Can I ask you what were you thinking to buy in alternative to evo 3D?
After that, you said you don't want to unlock it not to lose the warrnty but there are unlock methods that make you not lose warranty. I prefer an unlocked device for these reasons:
-If you do a right job, you will not lose warranty
-sense 3.6 custom roms are faster and richer of functions than the stock one (mwakious rom is excellent to take spectacular 3D pictures)
-s2w and usb OTG are becoming day after day always more essential for me, and only custom roms can provide them to me
-AOSP roms are MUCH faster than the sense ones (AOSP rom= 160-170 MB; Sense roms= 385-400 MB ). On previous versions of android I think that HTC sense was essential because added those functions that vanilla android hadn't at all, but I can see that a cyanogenmod 4.2.2 has got all the functions that I need.
-Probably (and we hope asap :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed: ) agrabren would provide an AOSP rom with working 3D, so when and if it will happen I think there will be no more reson to stay on stock rom
I hope I have convinced you to come to the dark side lol but at least I hope I was able to convince you that evo is still a good device, even if htc supported it for less than a year and after abandoned it

And you are right! On the paper those phones are beautiful, with hi specifications and so on...but when you get it, their quality is soooooo low, battery hasn't got a decent life time and the whole phone won't last you so long. And you didn't considered the SAR exposure, in "chinese phones" is really high and it increases with the passing of time :s :s :s :s not so healthy at all. But I see that you have an HD2..I am following the porting works for the new 3.0.16 kernel for this device and I think that some really good things are gonna happen
P.S. if you think I helped, you can hit the thanks button if you want

now updating
Ive been using leedroids firmware/rom for the last 2 years, and been great but its not getting slow, and not compatible with apps etc, plus rebooting couple times a week etc
so too am now trying to update, want to stay with sense (as its HTC !)
and of course want to keep the 3D fully working ! (still love using the 3D !)
would be good to have HDMI out still work too ?
so i too am trying to decide what kernal/rom to use !!!
from what i have read over the past day, is that sense 3.6 and below should have working 3D, 4 and upwards will not.
and ICS and under, senseless are working with 3D but not with jellybean ...
can anyone conform this ???

Only sense 3.6 and lower have everything working and only sense based ROMs have working 3d (these are mostly sense 3.6 base)

thats great, always good to get it confirmed !!
from what ive been reading in the dev threads, looks like mwakious3DromĀ® ICS 4.0.3 sense3.6 seems the best one !,
plus they talking of there next update (as its still current) will have the newest sense !!!

The Evo 3D is still a tremendous phone. It is indeed sort of 2 years old but you definitely don't notice it.
It has pretty much all functions that all other phones offer, and 3d ofcourse
Very satisfied with mine. I use it for internet, facebook etc.
It's a shame that they didn't want to put jellybean on it. With 1GB ram and a 1.2ghz dual core processor it is more than strong enough.
Oh and remember to get a micro SD storage card of 4GB or more if you plan on gaming!
The specs say that it has 4GB of internal space, but 3GB is "locked" and only 1GB is available.

[Q] DNA Daily Driver ROMS

At the risk of sounding hard; I find it interesting that Viper is really the only DD ROM for the DNA that isn't stock. I've been usnig Viper for a while and want to play with other ROMS.
CM has wireless (and other) issues that make it not worthy of daily use, and thus every ROM that is based on it will and does have those inherent issues. So CM and its variants are out.
There are a few other ROMs out there like Carbon that have their share of issues as well.
So I ask: Other than Viper, which ROMs are considered by you to be daily drivers?
Daily Driver qualification: No Major Issues (camera, wifi, LTE, FC's, etc.)
I want to also thank all Devs. It's hard work, and there are gillions of issues that constantly crop up. I'm not making light of the fact that most ROMs aren't for the faint hearted, just wanting more daily driver ROMs to choose from.
And for sure, if I were as smart as you guys, I'd develop my own - but I'm not that smart. LOL
