Hello,
I am not a developer but this is a feature I believe would be nice to implement and haven't seen in custom roms I have tried. One of my biggest annoyances with android are the notification sounds. If I'm listening to music, I would still like the sound to play, but not completely drown out my music in the process.
Ideally the notification sound should play at a lower volume (say %25) over my music.
I would like to bump this thread. I'm looking for a way to set myself up with what OP has asked for and hoping someone out there knows of something.
I know I used to have this functionality on at least one Rom of CM7 I ran on previous phone (Mytouch 3G slide).
Being able to play notifications over music without pausing it would be good, better still would be the option to make the notification quieter, or the music quieter. Anything would be better than pausing the music for the notification!
There could be a way to force sound ducking when you get a notification, instead of pausing whatever media is playing. That would most likely need to be a ROM tweak though, might help ask a developer for your phone.

I know this is a problem with many Android phones. A notification, ringer, navigation, etc will all mute or pause-mute music playing in the background. Is there any way to fix/hack/mod the phone to instead dim the music, and play the notification, ringer, navigation simultaneously?
This is my main gripe and possibly only gripe with Android phones. I really don't want an iPhone, so it irks me that this functionality is possible there and not on my SGS2.
Any tips would be appreciated. If nothing exists, I request the development of such a mod please.
i agree with you. it really annoys me when the music pauses whenever a notification comes in, especially when i'm listening to music in my car. i've been searching for an answer for this and i haven't been able to find anything. i would think with a rooted phone there would have to be some way to change this so hopefully someone comes up with a fix soon.
Hi everybody!
I really wonder how you guys use your phone in the car for navigation and as a musicplayer?
I use Navigon and the standart music app. The problem is that the music app is at least the same volumelevel as the navigation or even louder.
In my opinion we should be able to set the volume for each app individually but so far i have no idea how to get that done?
The only solution so far is for some music apps that they would mute the music if somthing else (like the navigation) plays sounds. But i think all apps capable to do that aren't free.
So i really like to hear your solutions
Cheers

Firstly, I want to apologise if this question has been asked before, and if I have asked it in the wrong forum.
I've spent a fair amount of time searching these forums (and the web) for similar questions to mine and I've yet to find one that addresses it properly - I know I may have missed it somewhere, so like I say, I apologise if it has been.
I'd like to know if there is a standalone app that allows me to control the volume levels for the individual left and right headphones. The reason is, I use my phone as a player all day at work and because I work on building sites etc I only ever wear one headphone (the right-hand side) and the left hand side is always left hanging down. As a result, whatever I am listening to also obviously plays out of the left headphone meaning those around me hear it too, and because I have bad hearing in my right ear I have to have the volume up to max. I was hoping there would be an app that lets me mute the left headphone so as I don't annoy those around me with my music and podcasts.
It would have to be a standalone app as I listen to podcasts using BeyondPod and then use Google Music for my music listening, as well as Audible occasionally for audiobooks.
I use an HTC Desire HD rooted with CM7 installed, if that helps.
Any help with this would be hugely appreciated, and I thank you in advance for your time.
Simon

Is there an App for the Rezound (I am on Scott's CleanROM 4.0) that can force certain sounds to play through certain devices?
I miss this feature in CyanogenMod 7.1 - I would like to force notifications to play on the phone speaker instead of headphone or bluetooth. It's really annoying to have my music playback spoiled by notification sounds!
In CM7, you could specify which types of sounds play on what device, and I got it to where only navigation and music (I drive rental cars a lot) would play over headphone/bluetooth while all other sounds would come through the phone speaker.
EDIT: Sorry for posting this question in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it to General!
I'm on Android 9 and I've been trying to use the Youtube app to listen to music as I run deliveries for my business. I'm active on social media in between deliveries so I get frequent notifications, but getting notifications while I'm on the road listening to music is frustrating because the notifications lower my music volume for a second or two and completely throw off my groove! I understand WHY it does this, because as a communication device my phone's intent is to keep me updated on people messaging me, but I'd rather it just play the notification sound WITH the audio instead of trying to MAKE DAMN SURE I heard it.
I don't want to simply turn on Do Not Disturb mode or lower my notification volume as I still want to be able to receive notifications, especially phone calls if my boss rings me, I just want the music to keep playing as I get them.
I've looked through Android's and Youtube's app settings and been unable to find a solid solution to disabling the audio ducking effect, and browsed tons of other forums before coming back here to XDA since I remember having great success with you guys on another much older issue.
I came across an app called Don't Pause! during my searches which apparently solved the audio ducking issue for a lot of people flat-out, but it is no longer on the Play Store and I found an untrustworthy APK download of it that I didn't want to bother with. It's probably too old for Android 9 anyway.
TL;DR Can I get some straight-up solution to disabling the audio ducking effect (either completely, through Android, or locally for just Youtube at least) or an app similar in simple function to the old Don't Pause! app?
Don't Pause ( by XDA-member tpierce89 ) is available here.

God bless you this is the absolute best solution I could have hoped for. I knew coming here was a great idea. Gonna go one up tpierce's post too!
That app unfortunately doesn't fix the problem with audio ducking. I'm searching for a solution that really disables audio ducking, so that my music doesn't get lowered with every notification and every voice or music feedback of other apps (workout apps etc.).
Any ideas how to really disable audio ducking?
I just want to hear any notification and other audio feedback when I'm listening to music without my music volume getting lowered.
