How can you take a screenshot from the Atrix?
My phone is rooted and I have tried several apps from the market but none of them worked on the Atrix.
can we please sticky this? it's been answered dozens of times.
plug into your PC, get the android SDK, find ddms.bat in the tools folder, grab screenshot. that is the only way right now.

1, Download and install Myphoneexplorer
2, Start MPE and plug in your phone
3, From the upper menu chose "Screenshot"
4, Save
That's the easiest way to shoot your screen!
Or just download screen capture shortcut from the market. You don't even need to be rooted.

i bet you that is doing exactly the same thing as what i posted, just wrapped up in a third party GUI. regardless, go that route if you wish.

too bad when you look at that app in the market it says it only supports the galaxy S and tab. If you had an atrix you'd know that doesn't work on this phone.

You said that the SDK-way is the only way at the moment. I just showed TS that it isn't.
And the SDK can be kinda of confusing to begin with if you aren't used to it. That's why MPE is an easier way to go all around imo.

you're right, wasn't trying to sound jerkish. I was just pointing out that i bet it is doing the same thing, using the SDK stuff.
FWIW, the ddms.bat is really not confusing. it launches a nice windows with clear menus. Under a menu at the top is a screen shot option. Much nicer than the command prompt stuff you usually use abd for.

I think that's a false positive. I had the same issue running AVG and have found a few discussion forum posts about it.
Thanks, that's what I suspect. Hopefully AVG will update soon to fix this. I don't like ignoring AV alerts.

There's no need at all for an anti-virus app on Android. They take up processor time, potentially slow the device down and offer no additional security. Just use common sense with what you install and you'll be fine.

This.. AVG is what I put on people's Windows PCs, but I won't put it on a mobile device.
With root exploits and social engineering out there, sure there are possibilities for problems. AVG is only going to suck your resources with little return.
I installed AVG on my TV this morning AVG is the Roxors, if only i can figure out how to install it on my toaster.

Umm..EXACTLY THIS...Initially I assumed that the OP was talking about a pc alert when I saw this (maybe trying to download su files to push through adb?)..But on a rooted android device? Stuff like that should be the first things taken OFF...but, whatever, some people get used to having things...(I rooted my wife's Evo shift 2 months ago and she still has all the Sense garbage on it, still uses "Lookout", has NEVER moved an app to sd, never cleans cache, and so on...she ONLY uses wifi tether, and thinks the police are gonna come knock on our door when she does that...sigh....

Well, Google sent out an alert a couple of weeks ago after they'd removed a bunch of malware from the app store. That's what prompted me to install and run AVG. I have unsintalled it since (mostly because of the false positive on SuperUser).
However, having dealt with crippling computer viruses in the past, I'm not quite so sanguine about "just be careful" being enough.

That was my reason for installing it. Thought it couldn't hurt, right? I will see if things run faster as mentioned here with it removed. When you see an app that's soooo cool & the poster on this site links to it, it's hard not to just grab it without considering the source.
Cheers,

Yes. Google detected the malicious apps and removed them. All of them had been running on users phones without a single flag being thrown up by AVG or any other anti-virus program. Just by design, Android is basically immune to malware and viruses. It is prone to social engineering attacks just like any other OS though and there's not an app in the world (that I know of) that will protect you against that.

Well, that's because they were modified apps and AVG had not been made aware of them, so they were not included in AVGs malware definitions. By the time I installed AVG I assumed the defs had been updated.
As for Android being immune to anything other than social engineering attacks.. that sounds like famous last words to me.

That is my point exactly. This is how it work:
Dev publishes a malicious app and gets people to install it via social engineering.
Google detects that the app is malicious.
Google removes said app from market and wipes it from phones.
AVG and others update their virus defs to protect against said app.
I've never, ever seen where an AV product on Android actually detected a malicious app BEFORE Google did. Maybe I'm wrong. I'd appreciate a link proving me wrong. That would make a strong case for an AV app. Even if it did, it doesn't protect you against social engineering. Take the live wallpaper that wants access to your contacts. No AV app in the world currently protects you against that.

Just wanted to let you guys know that Ubuntu runs great on the Note.
I used Ubuntu Installer Pro to fetch the script and Ubuntu image. (on the market)
It runs in androidVNC, but it's still very responsive and fully functional.
Attached a screenshot of Firefox running it.
this is awesome! i'll try it as soon as i get home!
I am a super noob so can you please answer a few questions for me.
Are you running it through a remote desktop?
Or is this a complete operating system running on the phone?
Thank you in advance!

It's weird. It runs within Android, locally on the phone. This means you can tap the home button and go right back to Android.
With this image. You can set the resolution of the screen to 1280x800 rather than getting a custom image for that size.
You also have access to SD and external SD from within Ubuntu.
If you're not using a keyboard + mouse, I recommend setting your input to trackpad (this is in the AndroidVNC settings)
It runs really fast, especially w/ LXDE (it does fine in Gnome too!)
Apps included:
-Firefox
-Thunderbird
-Open Office Suite
-GIMP image editor
-Emacs Text Editor
-Transmission p2p client
-and a lot more
Thank you for all this info.

This doesn't seem to work 'out of the box' or by following the instructions in the pro app. I configured everything as asked, and put everything in /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/Ubuntu. As soon as the terminal app launches to start ubuntu.sh, it immediately errors because it doesnt have the correct path pre-configured for our phones. So I manually went to the correct path and ran "sh ubuntu.sh" but I was again hit with an error "can't execute /root/init.sh : no such file or directory". This is past my abilities, as I assume that is a path issue within the .img. How are you guys getting ubuntu booted?

I really wanted this phone and found one broken on a local classifieds site. I checked the MEID number with Verizon and it's good, so I went ahead and traded some stuff for this phone. It came with the Dre beats earbuds, so worst case scenario, I've got a nice set of earbuds.
Anyway, the guy told me the phone was in his pocket and he bumped into something and after that the LCD didn't show anything. I have fully charged the battery. The orange light comes on but nothing appears on the screen, after leaving it to charge overnight the orange light did change to green. I can hook it to my computer and access the mem card, so it appears somewhat functional. The 16GB mem card he gave me isn't the original, so the filestructure isn't there. I told him I didn't want the phone without a mem card, so he got this one from his friend.
I took the phone apart to verify connections, and noticed that the screen backlight was working. I verified with my multimeter that it's getting 4.31v and when the power button is pressed it drops to 4.28, yet the phone appears dead, no vibration from the motor, no sounds, nothing!
I'm just looking for other ways to verify a dead LCD before I buy one. I could see it lighting up from behind the screen with the phone apart. Someone had been in there before because there was a screw missing, but nothing looked water damaged or broken.
Before I spend $30 on a screen, I want to ask a few questions. Could rooting this phone and overclocking it do this? Is there anything I should/can do to test the motherboard or anything else before I spend $ on the screen? Can/should I try setting the phone back to stock someway, somehow?

Anything done to the software apart from experimental hacking/flashing, you should still be able to get into bootloader. If it happened as he said it did could likely be a screen. I don't have a ton of experience but that's my 2 cents.

If you've not been back to webOS in while, this is worth checking out. The devs at webOS internals have built a community edition of the Luna manger used by webOS.
Great new features. Best (in my view) are the new gestures allowing to switch between apps by swiping in from the edge of the screen. Card stacks can be put in tabs for faster switching too. Behaves like I imagine windows 8 will from the videos I've seen. Definitely worth checking out. Only word of warning is that you must be running the latest webOS version which can be a tricky update with android installed. Nothing too tough.. Something to play around with anyhow
You will also need to enable beta testing feeds in order to download the new Luna. This will require you to remove preware and reinstall
as well as modifying the settings in preware. There are several changes that need to be made but the webosnation forum has detailed instructions for making all the changes.

good point. I didn't find enabling beta feeds too tough. Worse was updating webOS to 3.05. The ota update doesn't play nice with moboot on some devices. Kept failing. I used webOS doctor to update. That actually removes moboot (not android, just moboot) so I just used acme to reinstall moboot only.

You'll need a computer with a working novaterm installed. From there its just copy/paste. I uninstalled preware then used the novaterm connection to enable the feed and reinstall preware

Ugghh, wishing I was able to get to a PC and install this. I never enabled the beta feeds before.

You might be able to download a terminal emulator in preware, then follow the same instructions entering the commands there instead of with a pc.

hdad is right. You can use xecutah/xserver/xterm to do this. Heres a short video showing it running:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDzhOylypv4
You can use this to run the commands. I tried it once before but wasnt very familiar with it so I went the webOS quick install route instead. But if you dont have a PC to work on, try this out.
The process to get the alpha/beta feeds installed though requires you to delete preware. Which, without a PC, is kinda tricky to get back. You can try Save/Restore. Its kind of like Titanium Backup for webOS. But I dont know if restoring it from there will effect the command changes you make. Or download Internalz Pro and email the Preware ipk to your device, I think you can use Internalz to handle package installs.

Yeah, its not the Xecutah part i'd have trouble with, it's the "enable alpha/beta feeds" part. I only have one PC that will work properly with novacom, and its my dads slow-as-heck Windows Vista laptop. I'd rather wait for this to exit beta than risk it(cause I don't trust the laptop)

Oh, so you're afraid of something going wrong and not being able to use the webOS doctor? I get that. I have a feeling it will be in beta for a while though. The devs just started this. I love it though.

That's exactly it. And its not like I use webOS enough right now to warrant it.

What do you mean? The ENTIRE process is carried out on the TouchPad from within webOS using Xecutah... using the terminal with Novacom is an entirely different route of doing the same thing
The only thing you use the laptop for is to view the wiki site where the enable commands are... but ALL commands are typed in and executed ON THE TOUCHPAD and not connected in any way, shape or form to the computer....
Hope this helps and gets you on the way to enjoying the new tweaks
By the way... they have updated to LunaCE 4.90
