Update .21 is the latest update (although another is right around the corner) and the one you need. I don't have mine yet, so I'm not too sure, but as soon as you connect it and slide the locking mechanism over then it's connected. You have to turn your GPS on under your settings and it should be using the dongle. Have a walk outside, put it on and slide the lock, turn your GPS on and run GPS Test or something similar. Remove dongle and test again, you should see a huge decrease in performance if it performs without the dongle at all.

to be honest i have never seen any problem with the gps, i know its not really a great benchmark but seems just as good as my galaxy s.
i will run the tests with and without but didnt seem any quicker to lock when i popped outside a while ago. wasnt sure it was actually working which is why i posted this. wondered if it showed up anywhere similar to when the dock is in place.

.22 is the latest update. It was forced so you wouldn't have seen it happen. Being rooted doesn't stop updates. I am rooted and it updated itself days ago. It contained the fixes for the dongle to work. For those who are unlocked, you have to wait for your ROM writer to add the code. Gary has said that ASUS are looking to release a version of NVFlash for those who are unlocked.

Really? I suppose you're one of the rare few who has relatively decent GPS reception somehow. Good for you lol, I hate you
I suppose the only way to really be sure is to disconnect the internal GPS from its antenna and then use the dongle. Surely there would be a way for the system to realize the dongle is inserted and to let the end-user know about it. I mean, they tell us to type words with the keyboard, I just can't believe they're not telling us we've plugged the dongle in. I wonder if some kind of Tasker profile couldn't differentiate between it and the dock, I doubt it?

Um, what? .22? What country and are you sure you don't mean .21? I keep my Prime's WiFi on 24/7 and my DMClient unfrozen, just manually checked and no update.

i am unlocked not rooted so i cant get anymore updates from asus. am on the latest .21 . updated before my prime was so kindly unlocked.

Any good?
Does the dongle make a marked difference in reception?

none at all as far as i can see.
could be
1. not working / user error
2. my prime gps was working ok to start with.
hoping there is someway to get feedback from the prime to let me know its using the dongle
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD app

I have the dongle
It definitely helps my gps but it dose look bad.

Maybe a company may start making skins for the dongle to make them more attractive and protected. Exposed dongles isn't good. It' not immuned to bumps and bruises.

My bad. Typo on my part. Of course it is .21!!

i think the dongle is well designed. locks in place and fairly discreet considering. could have been an ugly block like a usb stick or the camera add on thingy for the ipod.
i found it makes a nice handle when reading a book

I'll pull out my inner demandarin real quick to say do not apply direct pressure to the dongle - don't use it as an actual handle!
That being said, IMO it would be OK so long as you have larger hands and are pretty careful about it, just don't go trying to support your entire tablet with it. Don't support the tablet at all with it actually, seriously, going to feel terrible if you accidentally crack your screen lol

well didnt actually mean just the dongle. just adds a bit of a ridge to stop and slippage while holding

Printing on the Prime

How do you print from the Prime and what software and printer do you use? I am thinking of buying the Prime, but I must be able to print emails and web pages.
Many thanks
It looks like Wi-Fi Direct (a new feature on ICS) will allow printing using a Wi-Fi compatible printer, but there are also a lot of apps that do this (ie CloudPrint).
Where do you find this?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
I use PrinterShare (in Market). I had this for my old tablet (Viewsonic Gtab) and it works well. My old HP LJ4 has a JetDirect network card, so I don`t have to have a PC sharing to use it.
WiFi direct is the feature he was talking about. Something thats supposed to be baked into ics.nothing to do with a seperate app.

Exactly - if he had a clue he would know that you do not search the market for something that is supposedly a built-in feature of ics, so his witty insight is pretty much useless. Wi-fi Direct was mentioned as something new in ics, does anyone have any additional details on this?

On my phone I use "PrinterShare Mobile Print" combined with a Brother 2070N printer. My computer doesn't need to be on or have anything installed since my printer is connected directly to my router. The app simply allows me to print pretty much anything from my phone. I got it free during one of Amazon's free paid apps of the day. It's kind of spendy otherwise.
I haven't tried it on ICS or the Prime yet but it works fine on an Evo Shift and a Nexus S 4G.

Finally decided to get the Prime 64GB

Just picked up the 64GB Asus Transformer Prime 2 hours ago and so far really liking how fast this thing is! I got the keyboard as well, but as I am typing on the Prime, I keep accidentally hitting the track pad and keeps moving around. Will have to check for the settings if there is any. It does have Android 4.0.3.
Now will be selling my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

And you don't have any issues with horizontal lines across your screen?

So far no horizontal issues that I see. only seeing the GPS issue like others, and low WiFi signal.
Another thing I did notice is that I have the keyboard dock and when I docked the Prime, it was showing that the Prime tablet was at 100% and the dock at 90% and started to have some lock ups, I restarted and when it did, it showed the Prime tablet 89% and the dock 91% and doesn't show that it is charging the Prime tablet. Hmm... Not good for a $600 tablet.
Another thing I noticed is that the cursor jumps all over the screen when I am typing with the keyboard and I don't even touch the track pad. Another bad thing. I might try to exchange the keyboard dock for another and see if it is the keyboard.

gps fix seems to be released in the new OTA update tonight.
What version does it up date too? Running the System Firmware Update and keep getting "Failed to Connection" I will keep trying
Hopefully it does fix GPS as I would use this feature a lot since I would be traveling outside office everyday.

Try turning off the touchpad while you type. It's the 4th button from the left on the top row, if your keyboard is like the TF101's.

Keyboard Dock Teardown

Hey guys. This is a place holder for a video teardown of the TF201-DOCK-GR. Franky_402 and I had heard some things about a subwoofer that was supposed to be in the dock and the idea was scratched pre-production. So, I wanted to see where the subwoofer would have gone. I have to say, I wish they would have done it. Would have been nice.
Anyway, video will be uploaded soon and I will post a link to it.
Here is the video!

we did the song just to have something going on during the parts we were not talking. That way it wasn't just silent. I had thought about taking it out and may still do that. I might pull this one and put up a new one.

Space for a 3g/wifi modem?
Is there enough free space in the keyboard to fit a stripped down Huawei E586 Pocket WiFi Modem?
Or tear down a bluetooth GPS receiver Wonder if the plastic keys let out enough signal to lock on sats? Some how figure out how to mod it into the battery or USB port.
eh - by the time you do that, why not just plug it in the USB port, right?

Quad core with companion core monitor app

Does anyone know where to get that app that was on the demo TP's? I saw it in one of the review video's, it showed how much load was on each core after the companion core was maxed out...
Cant find one in the market, TY.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
You will only get it from nVidia.
Unfortunately, I believe Sontin may be correct. That was an extremely cool application, and anyone who loves the Prime has probably tried to find it at one time or another. I never had any luck, and I am usually pretty good at ferreting out what I want from somewhere or other. That app is not in the wild, as far as I can tell. Shame, since it would be "fun and educational" to play with.
If anyone can prove my statements wrong, I gladly invite you to do so, with a link, of course.
Maybe a Developer could make one?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
From what I understand, the companion core is invisible to the Android kernel. Likely NVIDIA had a custom kernel running on their test units and demo units to allow the companion core to be seen by the kernel.
Thus, it's my theory that even if we had that app, we'd need ASUS' test kernel for it to work properly.
I'd definitely love to see this. Even with .14, I'm not convinced we're yet getting the best battery life out of this thing, and I'm wondering if the system isn't dropping down to the companion core as often/as quickly as it should. I'm burning about 15%/hour when browsing, using Greader, that sort of stuff, and around 10%/hour when simply ebook reading using the B&N Nook app (at lowest brightness). I'm thinking we should be seeing better than that.
Something like this?

Oooh! I'd forgotten all about that...
Yeah, the companion core is supposed to be inaccessible. We'd have to cook up some custom kernels and some other hardcore stuff to even get their app to work I would think.

Green camera issue

Last two days ago, my prime fell off from our bed, my daughter somehow accidentally kicked it. Never thought about checking the camera right away, busy checkin f theres a dent made, fortunately not. However, yesterday, just realized that the camera was busted. Tried to press the back of the prime somehow fixes temporarily, but still it's annoying.... though i am not so fond of using this tablet as a camera, but seems it's incomplete. Should i return this for service or just leave it like this with bused camera. I know it's my call but i wanna hear some of your opinions. Thanks guys....

Well, as far as I know, it's a software issue were most of Prime users encounter during its lifetime. This happen to me too. I don't know why...

I doubt the reason the camera quit working is due to the fall, I baby my Prime and it has never taken a lick, yet my camera quit working about a week ago, I get the green scrambled screen like many, many others have gotten with theirs. Either they have poor connections to the board internally, or the software drivers are bad. Only my front works, and I live overseas so getting service is going to be a huge pain.

It's most definitely hardware. Squeezing the TFP by the camera brings back the camera for a second which makes it 100% hardware. It's likely a loose connection or poor solder joint.
My rear camera went green and I have never dropped it.
Unfortunately I have unlocked my Prime and therefore "technically" I am out of warranty. I may have to try to RMA it and see if they will fix hardware even if I unlocked it. I also have an LCD Mura and all the weak WIfi and BT issues. I may just wait until any other hardware issues popup and try to get them fixed all at the same time.
yep, this is most definitely hardware related. same thing happened to me and i had to RMA it. they didn't try to pin it on me for CID though, so you should be all set. I had my prime repaired and back in 12 days from sending it.
there are also a number of threads about this already. please try searching before making a new thread.

Mine is currently being RMA'd for exactly the same reason. It had a minor bump and the camera showed a broken image in green. Mine would also temprorarily get fixed by squeezing but after a bit that stopped working. Moral... Treat it like glass.
I am more than pissed. I just checked my camera. And now its GREEN! I take very good care of my equipment. My GF knocked it off of the couch last night while in the dock. maybe 15" fall onto my leg / carpet. I am beyond pissed. I've got the green lines of death on my 8mp camera too. It just started happening. I can do the "squeeze" fix but as soon as I stop squeezing it goes back green and I never really get the camera to look right while squeezing. I also tried the soft reset button without help. I really don't want to RMA AGAIN. I just got my Prime back from Asus. I do have to say my RMA experiance was not bad though.

pretty sure its a physical damage problem, which seems more and more likely is caused by being dropped. might just be a loose connection, but unless someone with this issue opens up their prime to see if they can simply reconnect it, we won't know :\
