Anyone else find that quite often when going to take a quick 'blind' shot from standby the phone wakes up but doesn't go into camera mode instead shows the lock screen. Wouldn't mind if this was a rare occurance but it happens far too often that I think one of these times I will miss a quick shot because it doesn't work (defeating the whole idea around fast capture)
Another after the camera has successfully taken a photo from fast capture mode and you select the normal camera mode (instead of scene recognition) it can also jump back to the lock screen.
Anyone else have this problem? It's really bugging me!
I didn't use the fast mode very often but never had a problem.
I set it to only open the Camera without taking a photo, but it worked before.
Tried it couple of times but never had this problem.. Which version do you use?

I have this problem too. It only works once. If I want to use it the second time I'd have to open Advanced Task Killer and Kill the Camera tasks. Only then will it work.
I'm using .73 Singaporean. I guess something messed up during flashing, not sure =/
I have found another issue with FastCapture. When I click with fast capture its like a blind shot. No flash , no adjustment - image with fast capture often looks bad compared to image taken in same condition using Auto mode.

Hi
my woman got the Galaxy S2 and has a problem with the camera app. The app shows a very dark screen like a maximum power saving mode. The rest of the apps are Ok. It can help then if I turn off the automatic brightness of the screen and the energy saving settings and turn them on again. But after a couple of days you have to the same again. So she is a bit p...ed about that. Does anybody of you have an idea how to get it stable bright?
BR MArtin
'my woman'...lol.
Anyway if you go into the camera app settings, scroll to the bottom and click 'reset'. Maybe your exposure settings or contrast etc were changed somehow. If that doesn't work...might be something up with the camera, or even some rubbish on the lens. You could just take it back and get a new one..
Never had problems with that, but all I can think of is that the illumination-sensor next to the front-face cam is dirty?
(less light coming tru makes everything darker?)

With the settings in the picture everything is ok. The picture taken with the camera are ok. Also the Sensor is ok as it is working fine everywhere else. Any other ideas?

And yes it's my wifes phone I have a HTC Sensation

Strange. Was it like that when she bought it? Just take it back and exchange it for a new one...

666fff .. Why take it back to the store immediately?
Anyways... So I you have the app (camera) open.. Do the bars (with the icons in it) also seem dark or do they look (normal)bright?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yes everything is dark must be some problems with the energy settings or whatever
BR MArtin
Let me eliminate some causes:
- you've unchecked 'automatic screen brightness'?
(@settings)
- you've tried maximizing brightness manually?
- you've rebooted throughout the process? (giving the phone the chance to apply it's settings, sometimes all it needs is a reboot)
Let me know.

Basically I tried evrything you said with unchacking and Checking the automatically settings and also the additional Energysaving settings it gets back fine for some days but then it changes back to the dark setting unless i check and uncheck the boxes again. So it seems not to be a stable sollution. So I search now for a sollution that the camera app always runs with maximal display brightness
I've tried about everything then.
I ran some tests on my own SGS2 but I can't emulate the dark bars.
Not even by holding my finger over the light-sensor.
But I guess it's like this and I DO NOT know a fix for it: seems like the phone is learning that you don't use the camera much. So if you do. It will automatically go into power saving mode since the priority for battery-use is for system instead of cam (due to low-use)
So the only last thing I could think of, is that you've enabled automatic power saving?
Uncheck it and take Juice Defender as your 'battery saver' fixed alot of issues with brightness going up and down for me(very annoying) never goes up and down for me anymore!.
I hope this is of good help.

Ok will try that with Juice Defender.
BR MArtin
I have write me a task with Tasker witch put me max sensor light and auto rotation on when I open the cam. after closing it revers to the normal state! ,-)
I think I had the same problem as you.
In the camer app > Settings > Outdoor Visibility > ON
(it unfortunately resets everytime I exit the app)
Hope it helps
I tried with the Outdoor visibility but this seems to change the colors of the screen and not the brightness.
You are right, that does not work. I was at work when I tried this and it seemed to make the screen brighter, but outside in the sun light it does not make any difference. So I have the same problem as you lol
It's not his screen or image. It's the gray bars on the sides that he means.

I tried the following thing and it's work :
1. Uncheck auto brightness
2. Make the brightness 100 %
3.Check again auto brightness.
On my phone when i made this the brightness on the camera is 100% and is not depending from auto brightness.
this totally worked! seems like within the camera app, there is no auto-adjusting of brightness and it always defaults to what the last brightness setting was set, regardless of auto-brightness status (checked/unchecked).
Two things about the Evo LTE dedicated camera button.
1. When the phone is locked should this turn the camera on after a few seconds? I cannot get mine to do it.
2. I was using the camera in the dark with Auto Flash on and the flash did not flash when using the dedicated camera button. If I use the soft button on the screen it would work.
Any thoughts on either of these two items would be appreciated.

your first point is as designed the second point is probably a software bug
I noticed this problem too, and I just got the phone yesterday. I found that if you press the camera button quickly all the way that it will flash. It just doesn't flash if you do the half press first.
My auto flash works with fast full or half to full press from hardware button. However, I cannot get the camera button to launch the camera from the lock screen. I could have sworn that I saw review vids showing this feature.

are you sure they weren't just pulling the camera shortcut into the unlock ring?
I cant say Ive heard of the camera button waking the phone. I know if you have it unlocked you can hold the button down and the camera will turn on no matter what screen you are on.
I sure hope there's some software updates coming soon, mainly to address memory management issues with Sense 4, but I would also love a more functional hardware camera button. I may just be ranting, but it honestly sucks. It's a 2-step button, but the first step doesn't do anything. I would love it to auto-focus at least, and properly control the flash would be amazing as well. The camera UI could use some tweaks also. The camera has a very powerful auto-focus, but a cross-hair type box wouldn't hurt so that we have a better idea of what exactly is being focused. Also, how about some AF metering settings? Taking a portrait of something when there's lots of light in the background will create a very dark, underexposed picture (of the primary target).
I think the camera is very powerful, and would love to see HTC make the software just as powerful... or at the very least fix the things that are broken.
When I unlock the phone it always starts up very dim and sometimes it turns bright sometimes it doesn't. I have auto-brightness off and I have my brightness set to 100%. I have to move the slider off of 100% and back to 100% to get it that bright. It is very weird. Anybody know how to fix this?
I have the same problem.

Is it dim on the home screen or certain apps? cuz internet browser, video etc got their own brightness settings built in that you have to change from the settings within the app.

It is dim from the lock screen. Everything once I unlock it is dim. If I lock and unlock the phone like 3 times fast it is fine, but it's a pain in the ass. I'll see if I can take a video of it later when I get home.
I know you said "everything" but try to go to internet browser and disable "auto-brightness" under brightness setting.
Also upgrade your firmware to the latest one to see if that help. My Smart detect is not working and after upgraded it work every single time plus the cell stand by is much improved
I just got my phone back from service, they updated to LF5 - so far it has solved my proplems with dim
I have had 2 handsets that do this now. Its really annoying especially when you are outside.
Basically what is happening is that when your screen dims down before it goes off thats what is happening when you unlock the phone.
I can be using it for 5-10 secs before the full brightness kicks in.
It has nothing to do with power saver or internet. Just running through the home pages and apps list it is doing it.
I am on the latest firmware too.
Does anyone know whats causing it? Is it just a faulty handset (or 2)?
Mine the same. I don't think there bad devices I think its just software related tbh

I just hope its something that will be fixed in an update.
It really p****s me off when it does it and im outdoors.
Does anyone else have this issue?
I know you can select the Flash as Auto / ON / or OFF... when I select Flash ON and tap the screen to focus on an area, I would normally suspect to flash to light up so I can focus on an area. However it does not come on at all. But will come on to take the picture, but the picture will be blurry because it cannot focus on the spot I want.
Love the phone overall, bought it through Samsung. Just waiting for a good root to come along the way.

I noticed the same but if I are the picture, the flash turns on and the autofocus is working and after the folks is right the photo is taken.
But as you said no flash when using tap to focus. That was there on the S8.
Could this be a bug in the OS? Haven't tried contacting Samsung yet to report this, but wanted to make sure if others are having the same issue too.

Yes it should be. Or Samsung made this.
Please report it to them.
Same here. Flash does not come on when you tap the screen on auto flash.
Spoke with a customer expert and even tried the phone in safe mode as he suggested. He stated that if it existed in safe mode, it is a software issue. And yes the issue stays within safe mode, his only suggestion was to take it to a Samsung Repair center. In my case, I will just wait for a hotfix or patch. Unless xda beats samsung to it first haha.
Got a reply again from Samsung care page, apparently the features were removed on the s9. I guess they are now wanting to reimplement it since most are complaining on it.
Found out if you want the flash to come on before taking a picture, just tap the shutter button for 1 second and then slide your finger off it and the flash will go off without taking a picture.

But that activates burst shot. And if sliding it, it would create a floating button. Unless I'm missing the ''shutter'' button you are talking about.
Hi everyone! Just to kick it off; I'm not a developer, just a motivated user.
I've been using Astro mode quite a lot lately, and I always got weird crashes intermittently, but always had a semi decent night, all things considered.
Not tonight though. 3 hours, one usable photo.
Had many good compositions but the app keeps crashing;
At the end of the 4/7/10min exposure, the timer will run down, and sometimes it will need a moment to process and produce that little circular image preview. I always let it do it's thing.
But when it crashes; the timer runs down, and then the app freezes. It doesn't load a tiny image preview on screen. But the accelerometer/level indicator will still function on screen. Usually it will need to reboot after this happens.
Manually stopping the timer before it runs out basically yields the same results; intermittent to very certain crashing.
It crashed 3 or 4 times in a row on the same composition (after effing up all night prior but still somehow pulling off 15sec test shots) and that's when I gave up. As i mentioned, each time I'm there waiting for 7 minutes.
The camera can make awesome photos, but it constantly crashes for me.
Here's some results: some photos it just pumps out what seems like a single 15sec exposure, others can be completely fubar and im pretty sure some photos just disappear into the netherrealm;
Also added some screen recordings of app freezing after an Astro photo, and showing how 'continuous mode' set to 9 pictures on Avg. setting will frequently crash the app (at least on my phone) as well.
I though the cold outside might be a factor, but couldn't reproduce the issue when set to 10min in my fridge.
Main settings phone:
WQHD+ (highest res)
Light perf. Mode
Adaptive battery on
Ram Plus off
Camera assistant installed
S23U 1TB
March Update (holding out)
I turned off light perf mode and it seemed like it fixed the continuous mode 9 shot issue, but no it still happened.
Planning to turn ram plus back on but as you see, I'm just winging it here.
Did manage to file an error report in the field but didn't attach an image or a screen recording that matched with the log. I don't always get the option to report the error either.
Just to report back in case anyone else finds the same issue:
Just did about an hour and a half of long exposures in Astro mode, no crashes at all.
Either the issue is real intermittent, or I fixed it by clearing app cache and app data/turning off light performance mode

Since posting, I've moved to the April software update and someone told me a new expert raw version was available. Wasn't available 6hrs ago but it is now!
As far as crashes; I haven't seen a crash yet, but I won't be celebrating early. Clear skies tonight so I'll be testing if the update yields better results for Astro!

Lmao wtf? That is interesting to say the least.
Did you wait for the timer to run out and the small circular image preview window to update? Because it looks like you might just have picked up your phone a bit too soon.
If you grab your phone as soon as the timer runs out, you're going to have artifacts. The timer runs out but maybe it's still gathering data.

That's good!
But obviously the phone isn't moving itself, so it's either capturing light before you put the phone down, or it's *still* capturing light when you're picking up your phone. Otherwise you wouldn't be getting light trails.
Here's your problem: (in my estimation)
