So I know there are few threads out there already on this topic, and i read through them, and I think my situation is a little different. I fully Factory reset my phone. I am on .173 right now, but when I go to apply the update, it downloads, reboots, installs about 25%ish, then the icon turns to the droid+exclamation inside a triangle, it reboots to home screen, and a message pops up that the install failed. I have the DRUtility 1.51. I've tried running the update with and without ROOT enabled. I've lost track of what RECOVERY mod im using/running and not sure how to find out what it is, but I think that is what is preventing the update from completeing. I've had Bootstrap installed at some point but that should be gone now since i did a factory reset. I also had clockwork mod installed at some point too. But I assume that is gone now as well due to the factory reset.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Also my android version shows 2.3.6
Factory resets just clear the data on your phone. You will need to fastboot.

sorry for being noob, but how do i do that and what is it? or can you point me to a thread that clarifies that?
EDIT: I found a youtube link detailing a fastboot method complete with RSD Lite 5.6.4 link and FastBoot file links. However, in the video it shows that it restores the phone to android version 2.3.5. This seems to be outdated. Will it still work for my purposes?
My issue is now resolved.
Used Droid RAZR Utility 1.51
Booted into AP Fastboot mode and used the utility to revert to .173
booted phone ran the update without issue.
Thank you mattlgroff for a great Utility.

Guys I'm new to the forum but have been messing around with custom pseudo-roms for the Atrix for a little while now. I was running Adeo, then Gingerblur, then Greyblur all without a hitch when I heard about the new OTA update coming to the phone and Gingerbread coming up, so I wanted to go back to any build that would allow me to get the HSUPA update as well as the gingerbread update, but when I went to flash my phone to sbf using rsdlite, it said internal programming fail and nothing else happened. I installed gingerblur over greyblur in an attempt to see if it would flash, but nothing. Have done a factory data wipe, still can't flash. I can't even get into the stock Android Recovery, all that comes up is a triangle and exclamation point. Could someone please help me out here, I'm running gingerblur on a rooted Atrix on 1.5.7 and cannot get it to flash sbf, all I want to do is go back to stock att rom for the coming updates.
Thanks,
BK
Hey,
I have the same exact set up as you. It seems vague in your post if you re-flashed back to 1.26, and that may be why you're getting errors? Every time I update roms, I re-flash to 1.26 using the method in the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
Then I ran Gladroot to unlock, enable sideloading, etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
Downloaded and install the 1.83 update online (not on-air because I didn't get prompted)
http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=9098bc50a569f210VgnVCM10000081bbb00aRCRD
I ran the 'afterupdate.bat' on Gladroot after installing the update.
And I now have 2.2.2 / 1.8.3
Thanks bud, what I ended up doing was trying to manually uninstall gingerblur and greyblur and the adeo rom by using scripts etc but it never worked. My phone started acting weird, the home button stopped working, no 3g connectivity, it would say I have superuser but it wouldn't be rooted... something was seriously messed up. I tried to get into the stock android recovery but it wouldn't boot, I think something was corrupted. I knew sbf files rewrite system and boot data, so I went into tenfar's custom recovery (after rooting for the 10th time) and deleted system and boot data, system data was deleted, but boot data had an error. I wiped the caches and all and I tried to sbf flash to 1.8.3 but nothing and the phone bricked. I then tried it on another computer with more memory than mine (mine was running kind of low because of a linux partition) and the flash worked and I'm on 1.8.3. I think I'll wait for official gingerbread and unlocked bootloader in July before I mess with my phone again.
My x2 doesnt seem to wont to update to gingerbread i tried to install the pre rooted gingerbread from p3 yesterday to no avail ..i tried wiping data and cache after several failed installs coming rooted 2.2 i decided to try the locked down offical update from vzw. The update always fails to install after it reboots and goes into the recovery. Upon rebooting and goin back to the homescreen the installation still fails. Any suggestions . i even tried unrooting and removing apps that required super user access and still no luck.
You need to SBF your phone back to complete stock in order to install either update. There can't be any removed system apps, or modified system files.

You are not the only one. I did a pre-emptive total defrost and factory reset before downloading the update, so everything should have been stock. The update starts to install, makes it about a fourth of the way through, then the phone reboots and tells me the update failed. After spending an hour with Verizon's tech support I finally convinced them to replace the phone, hopefully with one that already has the update installed..
God, I'm starting to hate smartphones. My old Moto KRZR never gave me this kind of trouble ... I'm seriously thinking of going back to it.
Ok, Just so I have this right. I have to reset the phone to factory settings, then update to GB. A simple unroot will not do the trick. (I tried this and the update failed)
I factory reset my wife's DX before updating to GB and had no issues.
Also as of this post it appears there is no way to root GB 2.3.3 correct?

Nope. Needs to be prerooted because the exploit used by gingerbreak is fixed in the update.
Go to my thread here, it explains how to install the update.
Here's what I did:
From a rooted 2.2.2 - unrooted using gingerbreak, then followed the spf tutorial.
Now back to stock with all my apps, ran the update. Installed fine.
SBF
Just do the SBF procedure listed on several threads and it will work fine. Something that has been done to your phone isn't playing nice with either update. There is virtually no difference between the updates other than the patch for root. I format and factory reset, then sbf and then wipe/data in recovery every time before I flash new roms or updates, just to eliminate any crap that might cause problems. Helps to narrow down what I need and don't need. If I forget to re-install it, I probably don't need it anyways. Good Luck. After root try the eclipse rom it pretty basic mostly just a debloat.
so you can not yet root when you do the GB update......
Hey all.
So just a few hours ago, I was running rooted stock, as per the guide in the development section. I then installed twrp, and attempted to flash a ROM, which resulted in my phone not booting.
Since then, I got into recovery, attempted a factory reset (which didn't work), and ended up using Odin to restore to stock.
So now I'm sitting on the stock image, unsure if I have root. Everything seems to work fine, but is slow. Also, I cannot enable wifi (the switch goes on for a split second, then back to off).
Is there a way I can uninstall twrp, and go back to complete and total stock?
If it's relevant, I get a constant "This device has detected an application attempting unpermitted actions..." error.
Thanks guys!!!
UPDATE: It still has root access.
UPDATE 2: I'm finding some similar issues people were having with the T-Mobile version (http://androidforums.com/t-mobile-g...connect-wifi-prevention-information-help.html) though I'm not sure whether I can follow those solutions. I will wait until someone can advise me on this.
It sounds like you didn't installed the complete stock image, that the stocked rooted image is installed. Have you done factory reset?

I tried the factory reset option from within twrp recovery, which doesn't fix any of these issues I'm having with constant security alerts or Wifi.
Got it fixed by doing this:

OK. So. I've been encountering nothing but problems since I received my Huawei Ascend P2 phone.
To begin with -
I bought the phone for the sole purpose of it being 4G/LTE. When I got it, I couldn't figure out how to get it, so I contacted Three and was told that my phone had to be 4.3 - it was running 4.1.2.
When I tried to get 4.3 through whatever means, it stopped working.
I tried to do a complete factory reset and now I'm getting many more problems -
I keep getting errors that anything Google related has stopped working (especially Google keyboard).
My contacts won't auto-sync, despite me having my Google account synced up with it.
The icons at the bottom of the screen (back, home, settings/whatever else) won't light up and the home button isn't working.
It's a different loading screen than normal - before it was a Huawei Ascend splash screen, now it just says "Android".
It is not being detected by my laptop whatsoever.
When I try and download anything using a browser, it says "starting download" but nothing works.
So, anyone have a solution? It is driving me demented. And all because I wanted bloody 4G.

I think we need some more info on the attempt to upgrade via whatever means. What steps / guide were you following? Did you install a custom rom? If so, what rom and what recovery are you using? From a few minutes of searching around, it seems that there is no official 4.3 update for the phone, and just being ON 4.3 itself will not automagically enable LTE service as this has much to do with the radio/baseband used as much as the actual operating system and that will not get updated via a custom rom (99.999% of the time unless SPECIFICALLY stated). Seems like they are working on an LTE capable update/patch for 4.1.2 soon according to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50495570&postcount=162 (that post is part of a thread about your phone on a UK carrier so should be pertinent).

Thank you for your reply.
I'll talk you through the steps I took as much as I can.
Firstly I rooted the phone using eRoot, which did work and allowed root access.
I then downloaded P2Tools, which was obtained from this thread and it allowed me to put CWM on it.
Once this was done, I attempted to put CM 10.2 on it, but kept getting a Status 7 error. Some quick Googling later, I discovered this video, which showed how to solve it.
When I followed the steps on there, I kept getting a Status 0 error.
That was when I started to encounter those problems, so I wiped everything I could, even system, but that part failed.
And that's about it.

K. So you are still on the stock rom, rooted, with CWM recovery (which version?), and after you attempted to wipe /system, it failed to wipe (what was the error message there?), and now it boots and has all kinds of weird glitches? First thing to try would be to go back to CWM and wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache and then Fix Permissions. This MIGHT help. If it doesn't then you will just probably want to throw a stock rom back on there to get back to running right again.

I've wiped the Caches and Dalvik Cache and can't seem to find "Fix Permissions". I did some searching and it seems this feature was removed from CWM? I'm running v6.0.3.7 of CMW.
When I try to format the system, it says
E:format_volume failed to unmount "/system"
Error formatting /system!
Weird, they did take it out. Koush said it was a placebo. Which normally I would take as law, if it weren't for many times I have ran fix permissions and it caused apps that were force closing to not force close anymore. But whatever, if you wanna try, flash this: http://db.tt/9aWdF8Rp. It'll either help fix something, or do nothing. Won't make it any worse. If it can't mount to format though, it's either or a bug with CWM for your device, or after factory reset, reboot recovery and try again. But you really don't want to wipe /system unless you have a nandroid or another rom on your storage that is accessible.
Thanks so much for your help so far. Took me ages to figure out how to get that file on my phone, but I managed to do it. I then installed zip from recovery mode and chose the fix_permissions. Then reboot and it asked me to root the phone again. It's now upgrading and hopefully it will work now.
It is still saying "Unfortunately, Android keyboard has stopped" and other things. What do you reckon I can do now? You're right, it seems like I can't make it any worse.

Ok. So looks like first thing to check is to see WHICH version of the P2 you have because it seems like there are at least 2 different sub versions of it. The P2-6070 and the P2-6011. Please go to Settings / About Phone/Device and let me know all the software info there.
Also, have you unlocked the bootloader (I'm guessing so since you have recovery, but just checking)?
I found some more info on how to get you back up and running, but want to confirm the system version so everything goes as smoothly as possible. There's a new update that just came out not too long ago that people are saying LTE works on, so hopefully we can get you to that point.

Mine is the P2-6011.
Swear if we get this working, never changing anything ever.
Yes, the bootloader is unlocked.
Alright, so here is a link for the newest firmware for your phone :
http://huaweidevices.ru/ROM4221/P2/...R001C00B038CUSTC19D001_United_Kingdom_H3G.rar
Need to be on stock recovery. Unpack the rar file and put the whole folder /dload on the root of the SD card. This has the update.app that should take care of everything for you. Turn off the phone and turn it on by holding Vol + and - and Power together. This is supposed to boot it into the mode to take care of the update for you.
If you don't wanna go back to complete stock, I have another way that involves switching to TWRP recovery and restoring a rom via nandroid restore. If you'd prefer that, lemme know and I'll shoot you the links.

If I ever meet you I definitely owe you a drink. Did exactly as you said and everything (from what I can tell) is working.
It's one of the things I love about Android phones - unless you do some serious damage to it physically, for the most part it is fixable.
So, thanks button isn't enough - you saved me giving up and buying a new phone

hi
i have a razr xt912 with an unlocked bootloader which i have eventually bricked.
it was running GB 2.3.4 when i got it so it was of no use to me because i am not in US and the region lock was not letting me use it. I found out that when verizon upgraded to ICS and JB they locked only the the CDMA frequency and outside US it can be used on GSM band. i researched for some time and got to know that a GSM patch can be flashed to make it work and to do that i need to root it and install a custom recovery. Then following happened:
i installed droidrazrroot and rooted my phone and did a factory reset, after which i couldn't found the custom recovery app that got installed so i installed the safestrap ver. 3.73
-When i rebooted my phone it stuck with a tangled and faded screen of the safestrap and when i tried to exit it whole screen went black.
-I did lots of factory reset and what all i could think but there was no result.
-so i downloaded matts utility ver. 1.4 for restoring.
-Meanwhile i lost my battery so i made a factory cable out of a Samsung USB cable by connecting its pin 1 to pin 4 and its working.
-when i tried to restore using matts utility ver. 1.4 some error installation of "emstorge" started (it failed).
-and when i entered the recovery menu after the process completed it showed error of not able to find the partitions of "cach" "system" etc. have attached a pic.
- i also ran matts utility version 1.8 and 1.7 for some hope of getting back but nothing happened even after the whole procedure was complete.
-i again ran ver. 1.4 but it was stuck to the same thing.
When i was doing all this i noticed that my device has an unlocked bootloader.
is there anything that i can do to restore this device.??

You need to google it.Sbf.droid has always worked for me (for more than one phone), so can't suggest another. For the version. Try JB 4.1.2. That is the last update for Razr that works.
However, since your device is BL unlocked, it got me thinking, might be a chance that you somehow changed your mount points or have deleted those partitions. There aren't many unlocked Razrs so can't say for sure.
