My SGS2 GT-I9100 won't connect to Kies nor Orin - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I have tried everything in order to resolve this problem but unfortunately no positive results. I have tried several PCs but still doesn't work.
Any suggestion would be totally appreciated.
* I bought it from UK Unlocked, I am pretty sure the device needs to be repaired, So do you think the warranty will be covered in USA?
Thanks

Did you root your device?

Yes, I did long time ago.

Did you try a different cable? A different port? Reinstalling the drivers?

Yes, I tried all of the above but unfortunately no result.

I wasn't able to connect sgs2 to kies also. So to change the rom I've used Odin.

Odin does not recognize the device and . Have no idea how to resolve this problem

Had exactly the same problem with both SGS and SGS II.
First time I faced this problem with my SGS, I was trying to connect it with my PC for 2 days without success, until I used my Nokia cable by accident, and there it was!
Strangely, the stock cable worked for only a short period of time, and then just would do! Note that, later on, I tried other cables as well, but could not connect the device. It seemed like the Nokia cable quality was perfect for it!
VERY strange problem indeed.

Even in normal conditions the menu on the phone asking me if I want to mount my sd card and the message that saids "USB debugging is on" or somthing doesn't even show up yet it charges...

no, it has to be via a pc......i would try uninstalling all SE software from your laptop, rebooting and reinstalling it. it sounds like a driver issue but could really be anything.
good luck!

could actually be the cable also....i have 2 types of micro USB cables here, 1 has Power only and the other has Power+Data. i dont think you can physically tell the difference but the Power+Data has extra cables inside it for data.
using the power only cable i cannot connect to the phone at all via pc but it will charge from your pc/wall socket/car charger/etc.
probably worth checking - it did my head in for a few days
@Z3X, are you using the USB cable that came with the phone?

[Q] PC doesn't recognize Samsung Vibrant

T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant, unrooted, running 2.1 with TouchWhiz.
Recently, my PC worstation stopped recognizing the phone when I plug in the USB cable. The phone battery will still recharge.
I've tried another cable, same result.
I'm wondering if the connector on the phone has gone bad? Any ideas?
I checked the other threads and didn't find an answer.
Thank you!

While it is possible, it's not likely.
What exactly do you mean when you say it's not recognized?
Is USB Debugging enabled?
Have you tested with adb?
Have you tested with another computer?
Have you tested with another rom/kernel?
Almost all the time, USB connectivity issues can be solved by troubleshooting and eliminating possiblities through trial and error. Unfortunately there are many many factors involved since you have software and hardware of two devices as well as the cable itself involved.

Turning on Debugging worked. But why did I need to turn it on now? I didn't need to do so before.

Can't install drivers, Odin won't connect

Hi guys,
I have a problem that's fairly common but I can't get it right
I can't install new drivers for my SGS2, my pc/laptop don't recognize it anymore.
I have flashed an ICS rom before so I also tried the Nexus S drivers, no success.
I have tried to work with Android SDK manager but since my laptop can't find my phone, it won't find it as an adb device.
I managed to get back on 2.3.3 via CWM manager but my USB jig also doesn't work anymore.
I have tried everything regarding Kies and new drivers so I'm pretty much out of hope... Anyone with suggestions?
You could use mobile odin, also if you flash back to ics you can reset counter with triangleaway and then flash back to gb

Problem is that I can't flash back the old bootloader..
I think the logical step would be to try another PC, given you've tried everything else & nothing has worked.
You could also maybe try Heimdall (search for it on here).
Also, if you haven't tried different USB cables (in particular the one that came with the phone), give that a shot. Also make sure you're connecting the phone to a powered/mainboard USB port & not a hub port. Also, try toggling USB debugging in your phone settings.
That's about all I got. Try these things if you haven't already, but definitely try another PC.

I have tried different ports with different cables, different pc also won't install the drivers.
Usb debugging on/off doesn't work either.
Going to try heimdall today but it has something to do with my phone since I flashed so many files before with my pc and with my laptop.
Will post after I tried.
Yeah it sounds like a phone issue given you have been able to flash firmware with that PC previously. Good luck with Heimdall, fingers crossed for you.

Nope, heimdall can't recognize my phone either.
Running out of ideas here.
I guess there isn't an option to flash the old bootloader other than Odin huh?
Unfortunately Mobile Odin can't flash bootloaders yet, so Odin (and probably Heimdall) are your only options. Either way you're going to need USB.

My PC recently stopped working properly it connects but always fails flashing via Odin, I managed to set up Odin etc on GF laptop so at least I can use Odin if needed. Could you not try restoring your PC to earlier date and see if that works or uninstall everything to do with phone, kies, Odin adb etc and do a fresh install of everything

My phone doesn't connect at all.
I have tried uninstalling everything including drivers and such via USBDeview.
The problem lies with the phone itself I think, not my pc.
I think I have found the problem.
I think my USB port from my phone is broken.
I will try to reset my binary counter with Triangleaway, then flash back original firmware without root and then send it for repair to the Vodafone shop!
Hope this works

I have the same problem. I came from CM9 and now I cannot connect my phone to the PC. I am using CheckRom V6.
Do you think it has to do with the bootloader? Or might the usb port be broken as well?

Yeah I think that it has to do with the bootloader, but a broken usb port is also a common problem.
I still have warranty so I will just let Vodafone repair it.
If my pc still doesn't recognize it after that, then I'm screwed.

Ok but if it is a bootloader problem, we should not be the only ones having that problem.
I do not think I can send my phone to repair, since I am abroad for another few months.

Correct, I have searched the whole internet and there are some others with the same problem with the bootloader, but they can connect their phone and install the drivers I guess. I have tried everything regarding new drivers and such so I reckon that my usb port is broken.

I have been in vacation for a week and when today i turned back home i wish to transfer the photos into the PC, but my phone can't be recognized by my pc or other's. Even in download mode, MTP, USB mass storage...please give me some help!
I'm on Cyanogen Mod 9.1.0 with stock kernel!
Sorry for the bad english friends!
Does the phone charge when connected via USB?
If not: your USB connector might be broken.
If yes: did you change anything on the phone since it last worked?
The phone charge with USB cable and even with the original charger.
The connector is working with other phones. I thing something is broken...not software issue i think.

try cleaning the microusb port of your phone with tooth brush
Might be silly, but have you installed the driver for the phone? Try reinstalling them by installing Kies.

I will try this, i have also tried a "electric contact cleaner" in spray, but no way.
The only way is to send it to Samsung, but i'm on CM 9 and since the phone is not recognized in download mode, i should flash the original firmware with mobile odin, am i right? It will be all right for the warranty?

Try any of these combinations:
1. Ensure you have kies is up to date.
2. In Device Manager - uninstall driver (!) & then reinstall.
3. In Control Panel - click on troubleshoot, hardware and sound, configure a device.
Option 2 worked for me.

I guess there is a problem with SGS2's USB connector. Try cleaning it with a toothbrush and it may work. Seems crazy, but worked for me and lot of other guys. I came to know about this on XDA...
