I am searching now, but is there a way to show non root status to an app that checks root status, or does one have to go in and modify the app to tell it not to check.

By the way, I did try the ota root keeper app and it seems to work right. My problem more specifically is I want the twc TV app to work but it says it will not work with a rooted device. It gives me the same message even when I supposedly unroot with the app. I can't use the HBO go or max go because of 4.0 ics. Kind of bummed at the moment. They figures out a way to install the checks, now to change that so I can use them again.

edit: Just found the app with the modified buildprop! Works great and now I can watch streaming tv on my phone again(with ICS root). Now I just need to find the hbo go and max go with the modified parts to them.
Supercurio's root keeper app should allow this, at least that is what other users have stated in market comments.

The app does do just that buy somehow the twc TV all still sees root access. It wasn't until I tried the version with the modified build.prop that it stopped checking for root access and allowed mr to watch TV.

Edit ---- 10\12\11 new update to HBO go app, still no video, more important new update is requesting super user permissions when started up - don't know why and I recommend not allowing it super user permission until you know why and are sure it won't cause a problem.
--- below is the original post ---
Hbo go app only plays audio no video on att gs2. If you like this app a much a I do please consider contacting the developer and request a fix for our phone.

Word. I've already left a review on the marketplace noting that it needed to be fixed. I'm pretty sure they will do an update soon when more and more people start complaining.
I sent an email through the market. Now I have switched to CM7 and just tried out HBO GO and it works flawlessly. Glad to have it back.

Theres an update out today. Still no video

I also just updated and also still no video.
More importantly I noticed that the hbo go app is now asking for super user permission (root permission) - will not affect anyone who has not rooted their phone. I have denied the permission request but I am wondering why it its even asking for it in the first place.
For anyone not sure what to do if you come across this never allow an app super user permissions (root permissions) if you don't know what it is doing.

I also updated today and decided to try out the app. I just said deny to root permissions. Then the app opened up and played fine. I am on CM7 though and audio and video worked from the get go, but the brief time I was on stock it did not work. There also is another thread about this.

I did the uninstall and re-install with no results. I even cleared the HBOgo App history and that didnt help.
It works on cm7

This is probably going to have to be reported to the developer to be fixed...
Is there a way to get it to work on UnNamed Rom or does it only works on CM7?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
I just flashed unnamed ROM this afternoon and HBO go is working. The version of HBO go I have working is 1.2.1.
Also, I am no longer getting su request from the app.
I'm interested to know if anyone still running stock can tell if it will work stock, or if it is just custom ROMs are fixing
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Thanks I updated to 1.3 version of UnNamed Rom and it works a charm.
uverse
I had the same problem of audio no video and now it just denies uverse customers access.think I'll be flashing again soon.
HBO go fixed!
I'm still running stock and the latest version of hbo go is now working 100%.
Edit: after update to hbogo I watched a few movies and shows but after trying to watch boardwalk the app crashed and phone rebooted now no video again. Not sure why?? ?
Edit; so after the crash and no video again I went to settings and cleared data for hbogo app. Tried the app and video is now working for me again. Possibly a temp fix until a update for this app.
Working Now
I was having the same issue as everyone else, audio without video. I updated, got the SU request, accepted and no change. I saw a reply about clearing the data. I went to view the app first and now it's working. I haven't done anything other than run the app. Also working now are SHO and MAX. I have no explanation but I'm happy about it! Running Entropys stock/root/cwm.

I would recommend in the future to not give su permissions to apps when not knowing why they are asking for them - unless you some how know what HBO go was up to.
I did not know and refused it su permissions back when I got the update that asked for them.
Rooting your Android phone in and of itself will not make your phone more vulnerable to malicious software, but granting su permissions to a rogue app will.
If I were you I would open your super user app and remove to su permissions you have to HBO go - especially since there is no reason for it to have it.
Be very cautious and stingy with su permissions and it will go a long way in helping protect from malicious software.

I've found a work around to bypass apps that won't work on rooted androids. I've tested Barclays Mobile Banking and SkyGo. Both work.
I need a list of other app that can't work with root so I can test further.
Please list any that you know of?
Thanks.

Hi can you tell the work around for skygo on s3 please
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I've been told the SkyGo app checks for root when the video is about to play so I havent been able to test that far as I dont have login details for a Sky account. I assumed the app checked for root at start up.
Anyway, I've you could try this for me and let me know...
You need ES File Explorer. Open ES and go in to the options. Make sure 'Up to Root' and 'Root Explorer' are ticked. Navigate to '/system/xbin/' and long press on the 'su' file. Then select 'Hide' from the popup menu. Try streaming anything from SkyGo. Let me know if that works or not.
I've just tried another beta app called 'WorldPay' but it didn't work. So far the only app confirmed is Barclays Mobile Banking and Barclays Pingit.
Thanks.
Hi tried what u said didn't work for me

Bugger. Looks like it's just for Barclays app's then. Thanks for trying it for me.
That's ok there might be a fix soon by someone

Hey man, can you help me get this app going "Jeppesen Mobile TC". I'm trying to get this app to work on my HP Touchpad with CyanogenMod version 9.0.0 alpha 2
I have an app that refuses to operate fully, because it says that streaming is not allowed on rooted devices.
Is there a way that I can hide rooted status from this app, or make it unrooted as far as the app is concerned? I have not given it root permissions; it just seems to know that the app is rooted.
Thanks!
I've had good luck with OTA rootkeeper, I've been able to watch movies on Google play, that sort of thing.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk 2
You can to set your root management program to automatically deny root on request.

Cant you unroot it?
Tried OTARootkeepet and app still complained. Even functionally unrooted it seemed to know.

What is the app?
I am Jack's smirking revenge.
I hope it's ok to make a topic about this... Been looking around without finding any duplicate posts. I should note that i had an older rezound that i rooted just fine on gb and it tethered fine.
This new one had ics before i rooted it, and i get issues with any tethering app i use; even barnacle, which was the one i used last time. Ill post the error message i get in a subsequent post, but i think it had to do with difficulties making an ad-hoc connection or something.
Anybody face this issue?

Use this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Go to settings in the app, set devuce profile to HTC rezound or Samsung galaxy nexus CDMA.
Change setup method to net D master, turn off encryption and scroll down and check to enable routing fix.
Delete the Verizon mobile hotspot app and the system app TetheringGuard.apk
be sure to grant superuser or supersu root access

Awesome, thank you for your post. I followed you up until the delete the verizon mobile hot spot app and the tetheringGuard.apk. What is the preferred way to do this? I have titanium backup pro (that i normally freeze my apps with, I know thats not the same) could i do it through there?

Don't worry about answering this. You can if you want. I just tried it from the point I was at and wifi tethering is now working. Thanks again man.
Amazing how the settings actually matter... I know I had tried this app already lol
Yeap its very picky with those settings, and titanium backup is exactly the app I use to uninstall those two apk's

Is there any way to unroot easily? Just in case my phone breaks down I still want access to the warranty.
Oh and will Google Play Movies still work after rooting?
should be able to unroot through the super user app or just flash back to stock via odin.
You might try Voodoo OTA rootkeeper, which has an option to temporarily unroot your phone. That should be adequate for service .

Has anyone tried this(SuperSU way) on note2 specifically?
I reset back to stock by flashing with Odin...not a hard process IMO.

Voodoo OTA rootkeeper i think would best answer your ?
I use Voodoo, and it works like a charm
The Google play movies will not work on the market it but I believe there is a hacked version that has the root check disabled. It should be on the forums or a simple Google search for "root Google play movies". (Sorry I'm at work and can't search the forums as well)
