[Q] Google voice to handcent? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone aware of an app that will copy google voice texts to the text messaging app on the phone and show them as new messages? I have a texting plan, but service at home sucks. I want to just use airplane mode and have wifi on at home, which works great with the google voice app. BUT I realllllly miss using handcent customization and custom text tones.

[Q] Is there any reason to use the Google Voice app if Sprint is already integrated?

1. My Sprint number is tied directly to Google Voice via the built-in integration.
2. I have the EVO 3D.
Is there any reason why I would want to use/install the Google Voice application when I already get everything directly through it anyhow?
I'm pretty sure that in order to receive texts, you have to have the app installed.

Not if you leave it set to text your phone as well.
To the op only reason I have the app is to get voicemail
Thanks for the responses. I get and send text messages via the phone and it all shows up in Google Voice (the web portal). Voicemail is transcribed for me and then emailed directly - and I can still check it from my phone by holding 1. So it sounds like I don't need to install the app. Thanks for confirming
What about for international calls?
1) If someone calls me internationally, can I pick up with Google Voice wifi and not have to pay as much?
2) If I call a international number, is it cheaper if I initiate the call through the web UI?

Voicemail. I hate the stock voicemail interface.
Yup........voicemail. You pretty much get Visual Voicemail with it. How else are you supposed to retrieve your voicemails? Dialing your own number? This is 2011.
I decided not to install the app cause the MMS issue. All my texts/mms work fine but I dont receive visual voice mails. I still wont install the app cos its a pain in the ass to open the app for everything.
Might be a dumb question but how can I get the text to not go through voice and go to the stock messaging app so I don't have to open up voice to read my text I'm on mikg 2.3 and have an EVO

Your text will always go through Google voice once integrated, but there is a setting in the app and web page that lets them come in as regular texts as well. Mms always goes straight to the phone even if you integrate and install the app.
I prefer Google Voice for visual voicemail mostly because GV gives you free text transcription.
What I do is just have the option for text notification so my texts still go through the stock message program and I pretty much ignore GV for anything else. Now whenever I miss/ignore a call and I get a voicemail, I get a text from myself letting me know I have a voicemail and I can then open the app. A bit of that text also contains some of the transcribed voice message left and who it was from. This also helps save battery/data (unlimited plans yes I know) since I don't have to leave GV logged in all the time etc.
My only complaint is that I would like the text notifying me of the voice message to look as though it came from the person that called me instead of myself.
use it to answer you sms through google voice web page,
ie google.com/voice or the google voice extension. also phone calls too
I did not see a reason to use the Google Voice app for my integrated number. My texts and mms go though the native app, I get a text with the transcribed voicemail or I press and hold 1 to listen to them.
However I setup the Google Voice App with my other Google Voice number. So I can send and receive texts and listen to voicemails for a secondary number.
Also with the return of Sipdroid I setup the same Google Voice Number that is in the Google Voice App, now I have 2 fully functional lines.
For those that love the Google voicemail but hate the merged text messaging, you need to login to Google voice, unnassociate your phone and install the "lite" version.
Do not chose the Integrate with Sprint option.

Disable inbox notification in GV app and enable text notification. Everything is logged in GV but text come through your regular app. I still have to checkout voice mail. I believe if voice mail notification is set to text to your phone, everything will be notified though regular messaging app and you can open GV app to get your voice mails.
Yup, like donnie said. I can delete texts off my phone, but they're also backed up on Google voice.

Just confirming, if you enable text notification and disable inbox notification in GV application, you get everything through text message. You will have to open GV application to listen voice mail but for text default application will be used. Everything is still logged into google voice.

Possible to use default messaging app for Google Voice?

Trying to use default messaging to send texts thru GV w/o a carrier plan. Is that possible?
Right now when I text a GV number from messaging it uses a carrier sms, but if I do it thru GV app it uses data...hoping there is a way to make GV default 'carrier' for sms thru messaging app,
Gv and messaging app are completely separate. There is no way to intermingle them.

Is there any work being done on this?
I'm coming from a jailbroken iPhone with the GV SMS Extension, which seamlessly blended Google Voice SMS into the stock messaging app.
Right now I am able to receive SMS in the stock messaging app but it doesn't show the sender's name; rather, just a string a weird numbers. If i reply, i am sending via GV so that's good.
I remember when a friend showed me his phone, he had the option when sending an SMS of 'Send with GV' or 'Send with regular number'. That would be nice, but i can't find that option anywhere
I believe that setting is accessed through a web browser in google voice under settings.

I believe this option is for adjusting the outgoing caller ID number when you send texts via Google voice. To my knowledge there is no way to integrate gv text messages into other messaging apps in android without also using carrier SMS. I really hope I'm wrong as I would really like to integrate them into gosms. I have sent them a feature request, but it is my understanding that Google needs to open up an api before this will be possible.

Its called google voice integration and actually sprint has this already i really.wish att did. If u have sprint u down load google voice app and it integrates in to your phone can even use your number or chose a diff google voice number . And even if u have no service and your connected to wifi you can text with googlevoice
App even without service. I have it setup on my old sprint phone with no service its disconnected yet if i connect to wifi i can still send and recieve texts with googlevoice app on that phone.
Sprints the only.one to have this currently but i hope att eventually does. You dont have to use wifi but just saying u can. I had no service in my house with sprint but didnt have to wory about missing texts just had to be on my wifi. And i set this up for my woman too on her sprint phone since she has no service in our appartment either. So glad i jumped too att i always have service
Is the Sprint Google Voice integration reliable? Google Voice is completely flaky for me regardless of ROM. It stops receiving texts, I can't send texts, etc. It was the same on my iPhone as well with two different apps. Very frustrating.

Google voice to stock messaging?

To keep things short :
Google voice gets text messages over wifi. Instantly. Using data.
Stock messaging gets text messages over normal radio.
Data burns battery.
Could I make it so that the DEFAULT messaging service works as gv when data or wifi is on?
Thanks.

See if there is an option in google voice to forward sms to your phone. Not in the app either use a browser.

sms over wifi

Anyone know how to have sms receive and send texts over wifi? I use go sms for text and Google voice for vmail. I have read that Google voice does this, but their sms handling is rather crippled. Any suggestions?

I suggest setting up google voice integration and use your sprint number when setting it up. Then in the voice app make sure you have the option "receive text messages" set to "via the messaging app." With this setup, if you send a text from the messaging app it will send via your sprint service. If you send via the voice app it sends the text as data.

Google Voice update - Receiving text massages from Google voice AND messaging app

After recieving the new Google Voice update, I now receive text messages from Google Voice and the default messaging app.
I do not see a way in the Google Voice app to disable text messaging. I only use Google Voice for voicemail. I do not use it as my primary phone number.
Anyone know how to disable this?

The only thing I can think of is to turn notifications off on g voice, but I'm unsure if you'll still receive vm notifications then. I'm currently trying to figure out how to text with stock messaging app as gv number, but there's all these limitations and whatnot. They really need to start providing some better integration and support for gv overall, without Hangouts. Hope this helps somehow.
