Hey guys I honestly love flashing and using the note. I also loves phones and have a passion for them. However i have no idea on how to develop. I am willing to learn though. so if some one could teach me on how to port roms to the note im willing to learn and port as many as i can.

Do you have any programming experience whatsoever? We can't really point you in the right direction unless we know where you're starting from.
If you're new to the Android platform completely (from a development perspective), start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=564

If your experienced in programming, developing, Linux, etc. might try contacting the Atrix Dev Team (currently working on porting CM7) and see if they could use your services.

Well I've never done any android development so I don't think I would be of much/any help to them. But how do I go about contacting them?

Hello, I wanted to start developing roms and mods for android, mainly for my Galaxy Nexus which I own now. I have some knowledge of java and I want to know a good starting point to gain some knowledge on developing. If someone could recommend a forum, post, website, video series, anything I would love to check it out. I can't wait to get into it but I just didn't know where to start.
Thanks

Hello. I would appreciate it if someone would point me in the right direction of where to go to learn (from the very beginning) how to develop ROMs for the Rezound or even just AOSP. I am new to coding but I am willing to learn and have lots of time to put into it. I want to help contribute to the development of the Rezound and get us out of this lull. :good:

Thank you. Sorry about not finding that on my own. :/
Just jump in there and do it. Get 7zip and start dissecting other roms to see how they work.

For sure man. Any help is appreciated. I'm trying to figure out where to start. I might just start with changing graphical things to see how that works and then go from there. Don't really know yet though.

Yeah man. I guess we could just learn and try the basics and the quickly we learn we will most likely hit the advanced levels of Rom Development pretty soon. Should we start with the STOCK Rezound rom?

I want to start win the graphics because you can't mess too much up playing with graphics and I will get the feel of. Where things are located. I think I am goin to start from the newest ics leak stock. And then move to the official ota when it comes out. Sound like a good plan?
Thanks for the link, kzoodroid. Been thinking about possibly starting up ROM'ing for a bit now, just never knew where to start.
I haven't had any code projects to work on since I got out of college for summer break... weird that I'm slightly itching to code lol.
Working on a ROM using the kitchen. It's really good for showing you a lot of things you need to do for basics (deodexing, zipaligning, etc.) Just remember that it is "basic" and you can't completely construct a ROM just using the kitchen. Great way to get started :good:

Awesome! Ha. I'm gonna look for the kitchen tonight when I get out of work... I think it's a few steps inside my back door. I should be able to find it just fine
Also... I if anyone knows of any straight to the point videos about how the kitchen works or basic ROM building, please post links. Or make one! That would be great too

Building Sense based ROMs using dsixda's kitchen is pretty straight forawrd, hardest part was seting it up to run on a windows pc. You pretty much just end up with a deodexed, zipaligned ROM. I haven't done this with my Rezound but have built ones for the Incredible and Eris. You can also de-sense ROMs easily witht his too. Its a good tool to learn teh basics. The next step up is to learn to compile from source or to port over a ROM from another device.

Still looking for video breakdown of essentials if anyone has some. It's not that I can't do it myself, I just like being visually showed how to do things when I start something new. Thanks

You can't really be shown how to make a ROM. Every Rom is different, and requires different steps.
Yeah I understand that but I mean like for finding where things are located and what some important things do

theres no shortcut to learning how to make roms
id say a large portion of rom devs started out by theming...helps to learn the files structures and what does what...as well as becoming familiar w/ apktool, smali, etc
biggest lesson that few seem to hit out the park on the first try? credit
if using other peoples stuff, make sure to credit them properly :good:
What do people use as a base for the sense 4 roms?
Since the og droid rooting has been one of my biggest hobbies. I am interested in learning more about developing roms. I want to know if anyone has a Site where I could learn about it so one day I can try to contribute to the Android community. I'm an information technology major and just started java and c# last semester but my professor's told me my school doesn't offer anything related to rooting phones or developing roms. I'm also interested about making apks so if anyone has any suggestions as to what to read or what Site has good information on the subject I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

For making apks, you must know JAVA. If you do, then visit http://developer.android.com/guide/components/index.html download Android SDK and Eclipse and start developing. If you like video tutorials, I found this great tutorial showing how to develop apps in eclipse. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2F07DBCDCC01493A&feature=plcp
I hope I helped at least a bit.
He's right, applications are mostly written in java language with a few other programming languages thrown in the mix..go to barnes and noble, look in the computer section and you will find an array of books on developing applkcations for the android OS...As far as developing roms, there are two types of developers...themers and innovators...the themers only add eye candy and scripts which any script kiddie can do..I myself woulf love to learn the complexities of android developing but I lack a platform in order to do so...I've got limited knowledge on linux but understand a few things.....how nice would it be if you had an insider from google...lol

THAT is really annoying!
This is XDA, right. XDA is made for developers, hackers, modders, device-increasers,... but definitly NOT for people like you, who use the work from others without being a bit thankful. I mean we're really investing a LOT of time in developing, modding, porting, WITHOUT being payed! This is our hobby, not our job, so dont blame us for it. If you really want CM11 on your player, why don't you develop and learn everything on your own? You may now say "I don't have time for that, I got too much to do" , but we devs also got jobs, other hobbys, girlfriends and families. So maybe start it on your own (that's how I and a lot of other devs began) or don't tell us what to do.
Yours Sincerely,
Androthan

Dude they are different devices plus the 4.2 was released AFTER the 4.0. So the support for it isn't as much as the 4.0 and 5.0. I heard that some devs are working hard to port cm11 to the 3.6 and 4.2. I'm grateful that they are. Might be a while but we will likely get it. Until then look at the "holofrenzy ROM" by drakonizer. Its awesome. Reskins your gingerbread to look like cm11 and KitKat. Brought some life to my old galaxy player.
Sent from my LG-LG870 using XDA Free mobile app
VASTLY different devices. If the 4.2 and 3.6 had been using an Exynos3 CPU then they would be getting ROMs in no time, but using OMAP3 CPU effectively limits their processing power and ROM arsenal. You might wanna try porting from Galaxy SL, though.
