Opening battery usage gives force close. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys.
Basicslly i was happily running NEAT rom LP9 and phenomenal extreme kernel. I went into the settings to check the battery usage and when i clicked it i got a black screen then fc... So i flashed speedmod k16 bk and i got the same fc. I tried the clean up kernel script but it still gives fc. All the other settings work fine.
Wat should i do? Wipe battery stats?
Thanks
Adam

Issues after flashing backup

Hi all. I was on unnamed, tried miui for about half hour. Wasn't for me so flashed back my nandroid backup. I have 2 little issues..I think. First off now when I install an app from market it says it will install on my device but it doesn't.
Second one..when I go into settings and look at my battery it shows its been on battery for 7 hours. But its actually been on battery for about 12. Maybe things need to settle back in not sure. Any help.would be appreciated. Thanks. GS2 on unnamed
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Most likely things need to settle especially your battery. Try a full drain and charge, it should settle in. As for your market issue.. weird. Try clearing your market data or cache then try to install the app again. Menu> settings> applications> all> Market> clear cache.

Thank you! Drained the battery and charging now. See how it goes. I had tried clearing the market but I'll do it again. The market thing isn't a huge problem. Just one of those things it use to work and now doesn't. Just trying to figure it out. Thank you so much for your help and time.

No prob. After draining battery, recharge and a reboot the battery is now right. Guess it did just have to settle back in. Didn't get a chance to play with the market issue but will tomorrow. I will let you know what happens.

Update: OK so the battery problem resolved. Just tried installing an app from the market from my PC. Checked my phone and it downloaded!! I didn't change anything so maybe things just needed to settle in again. Thanks everyone

However if you've already tried tweaks the only way is to buy a new battery or a new phone

Wait for his reply before jumping all these premature conclusions. Simple
I already know what is causing his problems, but he has to first post his ROM & kennel details before i can proffer any solution for him.

Battery calibration apps don't work. The s2 calibrates its own battery. You can try to reset fuel gauge chip through extweaks if you are using siyah kernel, but I have not seen a difference when I do that

1. Many things can make battery discharge quickly; apps, kernel etc.
- Download Better battery stats and use it to track down what's causing wakelocks.
- Download cpuspy to check your cpu activity
- Download Rescan Media Root, and use it to disable the media scanner on boot.
2. That's probably screen of death, SOD. did you change any settings in Extweaks?

no problems here with RR 3.06 and siyah 4.15
It is better battery there than stock rom I find.:good:

Ok.
Follow this:
-Boot to CWM recovery
-Flash kernel cleaning script,
-Then flash Siyah kernel
If you still face battery issue, then follow step 1. In my previous post

And if nothing works for you.. you can always try switching kernel, latest Dorinmax is pretty good

Will the dorminax kernelwork on RR?

Battery profile in Extweaks gives a decent battery performance without a noticeable drop in performance.
You can only change profile in Extweaks plus (paid version).
If you are using the free version, then,
- Boot to CWM recovery
- Select kernel specific options
- Set battery profile for Extweaks
- Reboot phone

[Q] Tricks for longer battery life?

Hi All,
Coming from a iPhone4, I noticed that even overnight when the phone is in standby the % drop in the battery is greater on the SGS3.
I am currently running the Omega V25 ROM and the battery drain when in standby is about 10-13% over 7hrs in standby whilst I am sleeping. I read a few days back on the Omega forum (cannot find it again) one of the users saying how great the battery life was for them...something like 1% drop over a few hours in standby....do you know if there is some trick to get such good performance?
I have used good programs like Juice Defender which brings it back to on par with the iPhone4, but does get a bit annoying sometimes waiting for the network connections to restart. Sometimes it even refuses to restart the network which is VERY annoying. I was wondering if there was something I am missing that can get great battery life (IN STANDBY) without 3 party programs like Juice Defender etc....
Thanks,
Ray
Its really all about multiple things
Make sure you got a good kernel. ..I recommend siyah

Go offline on Gtalk, Turn off Wifi/mobile data while not in use. Other thing I do is Download CPUspy on Google Play to verify the Cpu Usage.
With power saving mode enabled I loose only 1-2% of battery juice over night. (Mobile data disabled, gsm only mode).
i9.0.1.3k galaxy imperator
First thing you do is turn off the WIFI or 3G(Mobile data) if you are not using it.
Siyah Kernel

What siyah did you flash? You must flash the kernel for jb leak which is 1.6 and not 1.5.3 because it is for ICS rom. Did you perform wipe cache / wipe dalvik cache?

Hi!
I gotta advise you that juicedefender/other battery defending apps hurt more than it should actually help. Think of it this way, juicedefender is also an app. App=RAM consumption, High RAM consumption=High battery consumption.
Also, flashing a custom kernel can help out. There are tweaks which you can do with custom kernels.
E.G. *Undervolting [if you are a total noob on this, then you might read thoroughly how to do this]
You can have manual settings to low screen brightness, not go to vibrate mode, led notif off, etc. And more importantly, CLOSE APPS THAT RUN IN BACKGROUND Such as: Facebook
You can never really rely that let's say, Person1 is having awesome battery life with KernelX because it depends mainly on your SETTINGS and STANDARD USAGE
I hope this will help you out

Well, I think it happened cause I put 1.5.2 siyah which located at Omega Kitchen...So I need to find siyah 1.6? then go Recovery > wipe cache > wipe dalvik cache? Is that so??

That's the reason why. Yes you can try that. Try to wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing siyah 1.6. If it does not help then the only option you can make is to full wipe and flash again the rom

Here are some tips:
1. Put wi-fi policy to never. It's in wi-fi settings.
2. Disable unnecessary sync (FB, google, email etc)
3. Install custom kernel, like others said.
4. Install better battery stats and find what's causing your phone awake (wake locks)

Whether Juice defender helps or not depends on your usage scenario and the app configuration (it literally has tons of options)
High ram usage equalling high battery coumption is bollocks. Each and every single operating system out there will try to fill the whole ram because it actually SAVES power and makes the device FASTER.

Ram uses the same amount of power whether it is full or empty.
Having it filled with apps saves CPU cycles and therefore battery.

S3 (i9300) and Kernels

Hello, I do hope this hasn't been answered elsewhere and if it has, please point me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated, I have a samsung galaxy s3 i9300, I have ran various different roms, cm10, pacman, and now ultima rom 12.1 with Persues and Siyah kernel, anyway the issue is. I have tried with both these kernels that I would change the default profile with an app to change the settings. The settings have been changed and set on boot. But the battery change wouldn't change, or it would but after a reboot it would drain just as fast as if settings weren't applied. Or it comes and goes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (I once got 2 days with Siyah) but never again. I don't sync.. Or have high brightness.

Yes I did. But it's nothing changed. When applying the settings. Even BBS doesn't change or show adormal things

We dont really know if what you're getting is abnormal. We'd need screenshots.
Here are the recommended screenshots:
When Battery is nearly empty....
Android Battery Stats Page
Android Battery Stats GRAPH page
Android Battery Stats Screen-on Page
BetterBatteryStats Kernel Wakelock page
BetterBatteryStats Partial Wakelock page
(Set BBS to report from "Charged")
It is abnormal when battery drainage changes when I'm not doing or after a reboot. And battery is high or normal as if no settings are applied. However I'll get the following screenshots and report back tomorrow
