Hey guys samsung stated ages ago that all UK unlocked phones can receive the ICS 4.0.3 update through Kies, I seem to be the only one who still cannot update through kies message still says your device cannot update through kies, I have rung samsung support and gave them all my detials numbers firmware numbers eventually they told me that it was my computers fault and that my phone should update normally through kies even though i have told them i have tried on 3 different computers, so im now asking you guys as a last resort to help, before you guys ask i do have the latest version of kies my phone is NOT rooted has stock firmware never been flashed with a third party here is my phones details,
PDA: I9100XWKH1
CSC: I9100XEUKH1

Chris i think you missunderstood my problem, i do not want to install a custom rom or root my phone i was asking here why my phone cant update through kies when my Code XEU is listed as Official ICS Update,
Ignore his root your phone post Updates do not require root as it would void warranty .
Kies updates your firmware when the phone provider has updated it .
You can use CHECKFUS to check on the server and download directly .
Alternative is to flash stock Samsung roms from XDA posted in General and also in stock rom thread .
Stock Roms .and csc

Stock = Samsung other sort is Branded Provider firmware .

Do you not know where you live ???

Flashing stock or branded provider roms does not invalidate your warranty .

Try your service provider...
Hi,
I´m in Spain and using Orange. The last time I was able to upgrade my stock ROM, the change came from Orange because they customize it (basically to lock you into using their system). If you choose to stay with a stock ROM, then your service provider may have to supply it and they are a little bit slower than Samsung because they have to add their changes. They usually add quite a bit of "Bloatware" to justify their modifications.
So I rooted my phone and am now using custom ROMs - Resurrection Remix 1.1 and am really glad to be rid of the Orange system. I also unlocked my phone so that I could use SIMs from other countries. Hopefully this will prove helpful....
Hi, quijote1, my phone is unlocked and unbranded so i am not tied with any network in the uk or have any bloatware as far as i know it is a standard rom,
Hey ZacQ8, As i previously stated in my OP my CSC is XEU, witch has been rolled out by samsung through kies that's why i have made this post in the first place.
could my problem be my firmware version? and is flashing with odin my only way now of getting ICS for my phone?
hey guys any idea';s?

You are making an assumption that ICS is available for your actual phone . That may be wrong .
You can use CHECKFUS to actually see if the ICS for your phone is on the Kies server .
Alternatives take the phone to the vendor/Samsung service for an update .
Join XDA Developers forum and flash stock Samsung roms on the day they are released .
You have no other routes except to ask Samsung /your phones vendor why you have no update .

still confused myself as XEU is released so ICS should be avalible through my phone and i dont wanna flash samsung roms myself just incase i brick/invalid my warrenty, i guess the only way is to take it to a samsung repair shop but dosent that mean i have to pay for the update when others get it for free?, just frustrating, is there anyone here who can sugest the correct ICS rom for the Code XEU?
update: ive found my product code and there is a ICS firmware on checkfus do i download it is it the right one? and if so why dosent kies see my phone as a possible update?

UP to you your choice .
it is it the right one?
Who knows you put the codes in correct then presume so if not its easy to tell once flashed .
and if so why dosent kies see my phone as a possible update?
You need a clairvoyant or try asking Samsung .
Personally in your shoes i would stick with what you have and not bother updating .
Because the next post you make is probably how do i restore to GB .

Hi All
I rooted my handset but then decided there isnt much out there at the moment for me in terms of custom ROMS so i restored a stock rom. I am now seeing a message "This version of the device cannot be updated" in Kies. Has anyone any idea how to fix this? Im running the latest Kies
Thanks
Kies updates product /firmware codes that match whats on the server . Requires your phone provider to have uploaded newer firmware than you have .
If you put a Samsung rom on the phone = no matching product/firmware codes .
Your Kies upgrade path is now closed ..

How so? this is now the third time I've seen you post this. Surely this only applies if you have flashed a custom rom. not stock.I flashed mine to KE1 via odin, but updated to KE2 through Kies. So what am I missing? Are you talking about the 'missing DLL' error? I did have that on my desktop, but kies worked fine on my laptop.
What is the easiest way to get back on track with Kies? Would flashing an older official firmware work?

you need to follow the debrand guide

basically you need to set the CSC to XEU in order to update via KIES

Third time more like three hundred .
Kies updates branded firmware via product codes hardware id and firmware id .
Hundreds if not tens of thousand who have installed Samsung so called stock firmware through Odin have received the no upgrade message from Kies .
Thats why Spoof FW was invented otherwise no need for it .
Its also why Kies has never given me an upgrade path since flashing stock rom via Odin .
Now i know one or two on SGS have managed to upgrade after stock rom but most are reporting no upgrade ( well you anyway ) .
Personally if some one is going to do something that may affect their warranty or change the update path or whatever i would rather tell them than not .
Stock rom Ke2 and i will test yet again via Kies when KE3 is out .
SGS2 bought sold SGS 1 running stock firmware No repeat no upgrade path through Kies until flashed original O2 rom and thats like two weeks ago .

Only Updated via Kies
Hi,
Only had my phone a week and have not done anything custom with it, it has updated twice through Kies in 1 week per request from Kies itself, today I go into Kies and it also says :
"This Version of the Device cannot be Updated"
Current Firmware Version DA:KE2/PHONE:KDJ/CSC:KD1(XEU)
Why has Kies had no problem two times in the last week and is now saying this, has something gone wrong in the phone ?
Yesteray it just said the Latest Firmware was Installed ?

It's giving that message because the firmware (KE2) has been removed. Your phone has a version of FW higher than Kies knows about hence it tells you it cannot be updated, wouldn't make sense otherwise. Once Samsung release a new FW I expect it to return to normal.

Just downgraded to I9100XWKE1_I9100XXKDJ_I9100XEUKD1 using ODIN and Kies now says this is the "current version". Looks like this is the way back to kies updates if anyone wants this.
All sorted again, today KIES is reporting ;
PDA:KE7: PHONE:KE4: CSC:KD1 (XEU)
a big jump from ;
PDA:KE2: PHONE:KDJ: CSC:KD1 (XEU)
This version of device canot be updated
Current firmware version : PDA:KD9 / PHONE:KD9 / CSC:KD9 (XEO)
:/ I bought phone before 2 days wtf is that ?
I have the same no update possible - its stock untouched.
My details are: PDA:KE1 / PHONE:KD5 / CSC:KD3 (DRE)
May be its because they pulled all updates until the new one is out (hope so)?
Hello guys
PauloJ5 can you send me your KE1/KD5/kd3 firmware?? pls
That's a problem™ of Kies. Change the Product Code to a valid one (see your box for that) from all X in Registry Editor. It worked for me.

Hello,
This being my first Samsung phone, I'm a bit in the unknown, as far as official software updates are concerned.
I know that Kies is the tool to use if you want to stay official, however, when I tried it on mine, I got an "this version of the device cannot be updated". I'm currently running a variant of XWKE2 (PDA: KE2, PHONE:KDJ, CSC: KD4 (VVT)), which I've have bought it from a carrier here (Bulgaria -> Eastern Europe), it doesn't appear to be excessively branded, or at least has no logos/apps that would indicate this. And it seems that XWKE7 is the current official release.
Now, my first question is, why am I getting this message. Assuming Samsung is providing different updates to different parts of the EU, shouldn't I at least be getting a "You are running the latest version"? Will I ever get an official update, and will I have to wait for all of them?
Now, I'm considering using Odin to move to XWKE7. But I'd also like to receive updates via Kies, and searching through this forum is giving me mixed results on whether using Odin breaks this. Some people say that once Odin is used, the path to Kies is closed. Since those are different conversations with different contexts, I'm not sure whether the same answer will apply in my case as well.

A very good post and some very good questions. I debranded my phone recently but since doing so I can't seem to update to KE7 in kies as I expected to. I wish I'd never bothered now as I've not really gained anything. I just want to update to KE7 to make the most of improved battery performance. Is there a way to do this via odin?
Just flash the XWKE7 ROM through Odin?
It doesn't really matter if you get official updates or not, within 1-2 days of an official ROM being released there is usually a repack of some sort posted here.
my 2c
But does that mean that if I flash the KE7 via Odin, I will never again be able to upgrade via Kies? Or will I be able to work with Kies again, if I find and flash my particular firmware (which isn't present in the list here, so I won't have it)
Then maybe root it with CF-Root, and do a nandroid backup of everything?
Don't know about Kies not working, it shouldn't matter I would think....

Micksta, if I want to flash the XWKE7 Rom through Odin do I have to be very particular which one I use? My phone was purchased online through a 3rd party company. Even so, it was locked and branded to Three. Since debranding it my firmware now shows as PDA:KDD / PHONE:KDH / CSC:KD1 (XEU) in Kies.
Kies wont now look for updates as a result so it appears I wasted my time.
Any info on where I can find the right XWKE7 rom for my SGSII would be gratefully received.

So what you're saying is that regardless of the region from where the phone was purchased, or to whom it was originally branded, if we use the XWKE7 update with the XEU CSC, Kies will still work afterwards, and I can get future updates from it?

No the updates from Kies depend upon the product code on your phone .
Kies finds that product code in firmware bank and updates if later.
All i can say is some claim to upgrade firmware of a flashed stock rom via Kies . I have never managed that in the last year of trying .Update with original product codes yes stock never .

Updating this with an answer to my question, in case anyone else is wondering.
After flashing a stock samsung fw with a different CSC (mine was VVT, I picked XEU), unless you do a factory reset, the CSC will not change.
At first, Kies displayed the same message, that it couldn't update the fw on this phone. I removed it's registry entries for my phone, and after that it said that the phone was up-to-date. That may not be necessary however, since on another computer which was also connected to my phone at some point, the Kies automatically recognized that the software was up-to-date.
All in all, Kies will recognize your phone for future updates through it, if you flash a stock samsung fw with Odin.

Hi all, I'm new to posting here but a vet over at samdroid.
I've looked around quite a bit and my problem seems to be unique...annoyingly.
I got my S2 on contract from O2 about 4 days ago, instantly went home and found out I was eligible to upgrade to ICS officially via kies. I have been on kies and connected my phone every day since, and I keep getting told I have the latest version (2.3.5), even though I've seen countless threads/comments of people delighted about the fact they upgraded through kies!
I was thinking of trying odin (i was a pro at updating roms on my spica), but don't know if using an offical update through odin instead of kies would void my warranty etc. NOTE: I don't want to actually root my phone (yet)
I hope that all made sense and any help would be much appreciated
Thanks,
Oli

This Thread has instructions and official ICS.
Plz note that this is official and will have TouchWiz and does look extremely similar to Gingerbread and without root and custom theme you will not get that ICS feel. You will however get most of the goodies that ICS has to offer.
I got my S2 on contract from O2 about 4 days ago, instantly went home and found out I was eligible to upgrade to ICS officially via kies.
Well that's not exactly true you upgrade if their is an upgrade for your exact phone .
Kies has firmware for GT-i9100KAO2U product code .
I have been on kies and connected my phone every day since, and I keep getting told I have the latest version (2.3.5), even though I've seen countless threads/comments of people delighted about the fact they upgraded through kies!
But not for your phones product code which obviously does not match the released O2 firmware .O2 may well and probably over twelve months had more than one phone for sale unless contract has different codes to PAYG .
Standard older O2 UK firmware for xxx Product codes is on Kies its also on this forum in a legitimate flash via Odin .

i think what happened to u is you got the model which is i9100P not the usuall i9100, thus all on normal model are on ICS and you still on GB. you can wait for it to come or use the i9100 ROM's but please search if that is actually possible.

Hey guys. I have the I9300 and my build number is IMM76D.I9300UBALF3 , and I just read that the UK is getting OTA update for XXBLG6 with some nice improvements. This website says that I can simply download their file and use ODIN to install it.
http://www.android.gs/update-samsung-galaxy-s3-i9300-to-official-xxblg6-ics-4-0-4-firmware/
My questions: will this infringe the warranty by any means?
Why does KIES not show that there is an update?
Is it possible that my phone will not be compatible with the update as it probably is not a UK model? ( dunno the difference )
Is there a chance that flashing the update will brick my s3, since I am not actually rooting or anything.
P.S. - I do not have root and I do not plan on getting it yet.
Thanks guys. I appreciate any help!
If u have the correct model number, u can try and it won't brick ur phone normally.
But it is at your own risk.

You would need to ask that web site bit stupid asking another forum for advice on another forums products .
Why does KIES not show that there is an update?
You do not have an update yet .
Is it possible that my phone will not be compatible with the update as it probably is not a UK model? ( dunno the difference )
Yes if its not I9300 International model .
Kies will not offer a UK update to a phone that is not a UK product code .
Is there a chance that flashing the update will brick my s3, since I am not actually rooting or anything.
Yes always possible .
P.S. - I do not have root and I do not plan on getting it yet.
As you do not know what phone you have you would have two choices .
One wait for whatever your phone is and Kies to update it .
Two you could join XDA Developers forum download the stock UK firmware and flash it on the day of release .

The risk is very small but it is a small risk that gets much bigger if you do not follow the instructions .
Personally in your shoes i would start reading and understanding first .
PS not heard of these nice improvements ??

I do know what my phone is lol. It's the i9300 , just not sure if my firmware is a UK firmware or a different one. The improvements are on the stability, noise crackling sound, camera features, screen brightness easily accessible.
So since I know that I do have the international version I9300, can I update through ODIN without risk? or? Furthermore, will any build work for the I9300 no matter the location based firmware?

If your phone is not carrier bound you can flash any region as long as it is for your model.
Yes, there is always a risk using Odin. But then again Kies can jack your phone up too.
I put my faith into Odin. YMMV.

I'm entirely new to this so try to bear with me
I recently bought a Galaxy SII from a one day deals store and it arrived running Gingerbread 2.3.5. I want to update to the latest version available for the SII however the OTA update won't connect to the server and Kies (after at least two hours trying to get it to recognise my device) has told me that my current firmware can't be updated. Unless someone knows an obvious fix for Kies I guess I'm stuck with having to flash the new firmware using Odin. I'm using a guide on CNET (unfortunately I can't post links yet) that goes through installing ICS but replacing ICS with Jelly Bean.
The biggest problem is which firmware to get. My CSC code is OXA (Open Europe). Do I have to find firmware that matches that or can I just chose any one that I please then follow the guide that I'm using? I've been looking on SamMobile and there is a lot of different regions to chose from but none of them have the OXA CSC code and I don't know what to do. Also, is there anything I should look out for? I don't want to brick my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sure it gets tiresome helping people like me.

There you go OXA It seems open Europe ended at 2.3.5 .. No wonder you can't update.. Anyway Poland's firmware should work just fine. Or just search the firmware of your own region. Do remember to do a factory reset after flashing JellyBean!
Alternately I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 Its the latest firmware Samsung has to offer.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I think I understand now. The CSC is really only relevant to your current version. If I flash Jelly Bean from another region the CSC will just change to that region and still work as normal? Does it have any effect whatsoever on the function of the phone?

Yes CSC is bundled with the firmware. Dunno why but every time I flash a firmware it does not come with CSC and I must flash it manually.. Now that's a whole other story. If you plan on flashing a firmware not related to you region e.g you flash a European firmware while you stay in Asia then the CSC is quite pointless as kies won't let you update through it anyway. That said you must have the correct CSC/Firmware/Modem and region to recieve official updates through Kies. If not updating via Odin is good as well .

Well I live in New Zealand and the phone that I have has the European CSC code. The site that I got it from is called 1-day who claim to find the best prices from around the world in order to give ridiculously low prices. I assume that means that my phone came all the way over from Europe. Based on what you say then, I assume then that the CSC wouldn't matter in my case anyway as even stock, my CSC is in the wrong region?

Its OK at most bring it down to Samsung service centre and ask them to update your phone to the latest they have. They should be more then happy to help.

Awesome, thanks for your help. I'm fine with just flashing it with Odin. I was planning to root it anyway. I'm just trying to find out as much as I can before I try.
