Phone will not boot with "ANY" sdcard inserted. - HTC Amaze 4G

So after my first attempt at doing the S-off trick, then phone rebooted to a black screen. So I was about to panic but I calmed myself and removed the battery and usb cable. Still no boot. Then I removed the sdcard and low and behold the phone booted, back to the green arrows. So I tried again. I put the sdcard back in the phone and started the process over. Still black screen after reboot and I have to remove the sdcard to get it to boot. So I flashed the stock kernel and recovery to see if that helped get the sdcard back. Nope the phone will not turn on if there is "ANY" sdcard inserted in the phone before power up. The phone see the sdcard okay if you put it in after boot up. HBOOT will not see the sdcard period. It freezes when you put the sdcard in. So I am not sure what to do.

i would look here...
Looks like you need to format the sd card
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623805

Done that about seven million times. I have tried five different sdcards too. My problem is different. That phone will boot just fine but wont mount the card. Mine will not boot with the card inserted, but one the phone boots with the card out I can put it back in and everything but hboot will see it.

It shouldn't matter because that sd should be a spare sd. Consider it corrupted now (which it could be if the format didn't go well) and use your main sd card that u were using before trying to do s=off

I dont think thats it... He said he tried five other sd cards.. Its pretty odd that it wont boot with it in but it will detect it if placed in after.
So you say the phone still recognizes the sd, so r u saying the phone still boots all the way up, like into the rom, or how do u kno its recognizing iy?
And if not can u get in to recovery?

I can put it in after boot and android and CWM will recognize it, but hboot hangs when the card is inserted. I found this out because I was going to flash the shipping rom.

True, but at least I was getting something in general. It completely died here. I think the Q/A forums is kind of lame. General get more traffic and it wouldn't hurt to have the questions there, but I guess power greater then me know what they are doing.

Sounds like a warranty claim begging to be used. That problem isn't even been reported by anyone else. Make it easy and get a phone that works. Sounds like the sd card slot shorts something out on boot with a card in there.

similar problem with s-off trick
similar thing happened to me while doing the s off trick. It was interrupted so I had to go back and redo until it finally said success and gave me S-OFF. The process itself corrupted my SD card. I reformatted but it was still no good. I could boot into recovery and load a few different roms after writing them to the SD card but was stuck on the three arrows during boot. I read somewhere someone had the problem and did as they suggested. I flashed two different recoveries and alternated between them flashing my roms. After about seven times the phone finally rebooted. Also noticed that something wrote an empty lost directory to the SD card when it finally worked

Apps installed on my Rezound can no longer "see" my external SD Card?

My Rezound just started doing this in the past two days. Stock storage under settings can not see my external SD Card. No apps installed on the phone can see it either. Root explorer is the same. Funny thing is that stock Recovery can see it. I can flash RUUs. I can boot to AmonRa and its file explorer can see it and things flash fine. Anyone ever had this problem? I have factory reset in recovery...reflashed last ota RUU.....still have the same problem. The SD card works fine in my wife's phone.

Does it give you the option to format it from within your rom? Or does it just say unavailable? Do you have another sd card to test?

Does it with any SD card I put in.....says unavailable and is grayed out?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Have you tried doing right after doing an ruu like stock unrooted?
And did you s off? That can corrupt external sd cards but that doesn't explain other sd cards that weren't used during the process.
I hate to jump to conclusions but it sounds like a hardware malfunction. Maybe time for a warranty replacement

I've been S-off for quite some time. I have gotten it to read the card a couple of times today. I was able to restore some apps with titanium. When I plugged the phone in to charge ...I saw a quick popup....." SD Card unexpectedly removed". When it starts and the External Card is in Settings the phone works normally. But when the SD Card disappears all of the Apps that draw from or write to the External SD Card behave Strangely. It is very near stock now. It is frustrating that it works very well when set up excluding the external SD Card. I do have alot of things on the SD Card that I use a lot.....Guess I'll call support
Can you pull your SD Card and plug it into a computer? Copy over everything to a folder then reformat Card and put in phone, then if works copy everything back over. If still doesn't work I would suggest flashing the stock image since it will basically reset everything. Good luck.
I would keep working with people on here, those kinds of issues and support usually equal face palm or headache.
For reason unknown...when I restarted this morning the ext_SD mounted fine this morning and has been working fine since 5am. We'll see if everything makes it thru the day...lol

similar problem
I am having a similar problem. I just installed Neo's RAGE 1.9 rom, inverted Gapps, and flashed the boot.img since I am S-ON. Now I can't get to my ext SD once the phone boots up. Similar to manbat above, I can browse it in AmonRa, and even flash from it there, but after booting up the phone I get the "damaged SD card" message, and I can't access it. I've re-flashed the rom 3 times, and also the boot.img...even re-downloaded the rom, inverted gapps and tried all over again - but nothing changed :/ If anyone can help me out on this it'd be greatly appreciated!
You will have to copy your SD Card to computer. Since your phone is reading the SD Card as damaged you will have to reformat on your card on the computer and then copy your information back to your card. This is what worked for me.

[Q] Clockworkmod won't flash ROM: "can't mount emmc"

I just returned my phone to stock using ODIN and Entropy's method. I was previously running SHOStock3v.1.3.5 and was having problems creating a viable backup via CWM; not sure why, I've backed up many times before. What changed recently is that I set the default backup format to "TAR" from "DUP" as mentioned here. After that, my backups went from around 17MB to 1.6GB. At some point, possibly even with that first backup, the process would hang while generating the .md5. I left it for about 1.5 hours one time and still it wouldn't finish; I got around this by holding the power button to reboot. I reset the default format back to "DUP" and my backup size went back to about 17MB, but still wouldn't finish generating the .md5. All of these backups seemed to be causing System Media Storage some severe heartburn, filling up the internal memory. Deleting the backups solved this issue, but I was left with a phone that I could not backup.
Finally, this morning I (regrettably) used ROM Manager to try backing up, not having seen the numerous posts about never using ROM Manager. So my phone became a brick, stuck in a bootloop at the Samsung logo. So now I'm at the point where I've returned the phone to stock w/root as mentioned above. I've also reflashed recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3-galaxys2att.tar via ODIN. BUT, when I try to flash a new ROM I get an error message saying "E:Can't mount /emmc/".
I've looked at some similar threads like this one and this one, but they don't seem to contain the answers I need. I am about to attempt to wipe the sdcard using the dialer code *2767*3855# found in this post. Before I do that I want to verify that there isn't something less drastic that I could try first. Anybody know what's going on?
Eh sounds like you may have gotten the emmc brick.

Yuck. I did some research on that and it sounds mostly like what I've got (I have the ICS kernel - version 2.6.35.7). The difference between my situation and the one in a post I found is that my phone boots and acts normal, for the most part. I ran GotBrickbug? v1.2 and it verified that my eMMC chip is known to have the bug. I found a discussion thread for the Epic 4G on the subject which points to this fix, but it seems to be for those whose phones are really bricked... mine is not, do you have any suggestions on what I might try?
Well, the problem that caused it was in Samsung kernel source for ICS. Flash a custom kernel known not to have it and see what you get afterwards. Also, DO NOT do any memory wipes while on the stock kernel because then you will for sure get the bug, that's what causes it.

I resolved my issue, though it wasn't what I thought out was. For some reason when I selected "Choose zip from internal sdcard", CWM was trying to access the external sdcard, which I had pulled. The opposite was true as well. If my external card was in its slot I would have realized the switch around right away. My phone its back in business, I now have SHOstock3 installed and it's running just fine. Thanks for the help, really glad my emmc wasn't mangled!

Not necessarily. You can put the zip file on the internal card, then you have to choose external card from within CWM. You may have to have an external card installed for that option to show up though. Or, if you put the zip on the external card, then you choose internal in CWM.

[Q] Stuck on Jellybam bootlogo

Hi There, Ive looked through the forums and searched the web and cant find an answer or a solution any where so i was really hoping for some help. I have just installed Jellybam 4.2.1 to my I9300 following this guide on mobotechie {I cant post the link yet}
The install went fine but when I rebooted in Clockwork mod for the first time I am stuck at the jellybam bootlogo screen (past the samsung screen and onto the screen that has jellybam written at the bottom with the android rocket flying through space). Its been flying through space for about 20 minutes now and im really stuck for what to do.
I installed from the standard 4.1.2 jellybean with a flash from a zip file on sd card on clockwork mod. I know the first boot should take a bit longer but from what I have read, it should only take 5 minutes or so. I really hope someone can help me.

I have done that which has sorted that problem out, thanks. but now I have another problem. It says that my sd card is damaged. So I took it out and put it in my PC, re-formatted s exfat and then ran chkdsk to check and repair errors. I have put it back in the phone and it still says "sd card is damaged, try reformatting". when I try this it just stays on the box that reads "unmounting sd card" and then nothiung happens. I really dont know what to try next.
Your sdcard needs to be formatted as fat32

[Q] Bricked Device!

Yesterday night I was running the Viper ROM and decided to switch and try out a Sense 5 port. I booted to TWRP and wiped cache, dalvik cache, data, and system. I then tried to flash the Sense 5 port which failed. I tried to restore a backup and it failed. And now my sdcard/internal is not mounting so I'm at a complete loss. Any ideas on how I could get my phone back to a functional state?
At least it isn't 'bricked' if you can still get to recovery which is good. Bricked is 100% dead which yours doesn't sound like it is. If you are able to get to recovery, are you jus notable to get to the external SD? Can you access the SD directly from a PC? If so, maybe copy what you can, format and copy back..try to mount again..

Take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354029
If you're on Hboot 1.12 or you're S-off you can disregard flashing the boot.img (kernel) separately.
I've never run across the issue where storage wouldn't mount, but the fix posted in the thread above seems to have worked for at least one person. Just make sure you back everything up to your computer before you start formatting anything.

Honestly, I've never run across the problem myself but I see it fairly regularly in these forums. I don't know what causes it, either. It's at least part of the reason I keep things like TWRP backups, ROM's, photos and so on stored on my external SD card. If there is ever an issue I can remove the card from my phone and copy files over to my computer, if the need arises (I also keep at least one recent Nandroid on my computer in case I run into problems along the way).

No SDCARD

Hey everyone and thank you for all the help its greatly appreciated!
So today i decided to flash CM 10.2 on my Evo. I was coming from CarbonRom and just felt like flashing a new rom today. Well everything went fine as far as flashing until CM booted up and then i realized holy crap i forgot the Gapps (I've f;ashed quite a bit of roms and usually remember to do this in recovery) and i quickly rebooted the phone to Hboot and accidentally hit "Factory Reset" the splash screen loaded and i freaked out again and shut the phone off and went into HBOOT again went to Recovery and then recovery told me that it could not mount the Internal SDcard. Now i can not access my back ups or anything. My phone still boots up and works but it will crash and re boot if i run any Google app i had on Carbon I.E. Gmail or Chrome. Im trying to restore my last CarbonRom back up to try this whole process again. Sorry if i skipped any info you may need. I have to be up early for work tomorrow and im just trying to get some sleep so my search on this site and Google wasn't really effective. I did how ever try to format the sdcard through TWRP and my USB but neither was able to detect the card.
Thank you again for all your help the Devs and this site are truly amazing.

Correct, my phone wouldn't mount the internal memory. My Computer would acknowledge that the phone was plugged in but nothing would happen. Even when I would try to enable the storage on the phone.
