Battery indicator stuck, anyone please help? - HTC Amaze 4G

Okay.. rooted my amaze, unlocked bootloader
Loaded up Emergy GB rom.. everything working great last night
left it to charge overnight
wake up this morning and battery indicator gets stuck at 100% on reboot.. if i plug it in it drops to 99% but doesn't change no matter how much I use the phone!
I don't know what the heck is going on, I've tried rebooting/pulling the battery.. what the heck can cause this?

You could try wiping your phone in recovery and flashing again

Thanks for the reply! I think it was actually related to the cable I was using... if that makes any sense (doesn't to me.. but I can't explain it any other way)
Used a cheap USB cable to charge it overnight.. when I plugged in the stock HTC cable and charger the indicator seemed to right itself.... so strange.. oh well!

just remove hspl, guarantee restored.
when you say "doesn't start" do you mean there's nothing at all, or it stops during loading?
what model phone?
what's the last thing you flashed?
have you been using android?

Connectors are fine not one is bent
Other tips
remove battery leave out for a few hours, connect phone to usb and wall charger, and only then insert battery. (That stops it trying to turn on the phone when you plug the charger in) leave to charge for a few hours, see what happens. It could be that the battery has become fully discharged because linux isn't handling the battery charge protection properly (maybe, heh)
Other than that, how do you know the battery is fine?

[FIXED]After root, phone wont charge while off?

So I rooted and installed CWM, and now when I try to charge my phone WHILE it is off, the charging light wont come on, which means is not charging while off at all. Has this happened to anyone else? When the phone is on, it charges just fine.
EDIT: Just tried it with FastBoot on, and now it charges when powered off. So to anyone having the issue, try this.
EDIT 2: It appears this only happens when on CWM recovery. TWRP does not exhibit this problem.
I've noticed the same on my end.
Try a different recovery.
Locked & Loaded
same
Same result here, i woke up to a dead phone this morning.
Happen to me too with different recovery.

Out of curiosity, were your phones _off_, or in the hibernation state that is used for Fast Boot?

Mine was in the "hibernation" state, but before I had root, I could charge the phone while off with either FastBoot off or on. Anyway, I already changed recoveries to TeamWin's, and Im in the process of a Nandroid backup, so as soon as its done, I will try to charge with both FB on and off to see what happens, and I will post results. BTW, I've seen that this has happened to quite a few more people, so it might be a widespread problem that not a lot of people know because most of us dont ever turn off the phone to charge it.
I dunno.. havent tried that but why do u turn your phone off to charge it anyways lol

Well, if you run your battery until the phone turns off, it'd be great to be able to charge it in your own phone instead of an external charger or non-rooted/s-on phone.

For one, the phone charges faster this way because its not using any power at all.
I have fastboot turned off in the menu and mine charges fine when I turn it off. I'm using Teamwin Recovery

I can also confirm this, so it appears to be a bug related to CWM recovery, can any of the guys that still have that recovery and is experiencing this problem try to charge with FB off while the phone is off and confirm if it works or not?

Same here. I did notice however, the light would not turn green while off... It was on the charger for 7+ hours. Weird. I'm using TWPR.
It's definitely the cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.img recovery. I just tested with both twrp and cwm. twrp allows the phone to charge with fastboot off and phone off.
Fastboot on isn't really a 'fix' because the phone never goes off completely from what I understand. I just want to know I can charge a dead battery in my phone if I ever needed to.

This.
This might be a serious problem to anyone whos using this recovery and their phone dies before they can get to an A/C outlet (for example, on a car w/o a car charger, etc). I will send the developers a quick note for them to check this out.
Good work on figuring this out... Im sure we will see more folks wondering wtf is goin on with their batteries

I can confirm this. Using CWM the phone does not charge when powered off. Whats the best way to remove CWM and install TWR?
when you turn off the phone and plug in the charger, the red light does go off in a few seconds, but my phone was fully charged overnight (without the red light on)
Mine charged to 100% this morning. I stuck with CWM, I also flashed OMJ deodexed rom before I went to bed. I plugged it in when the phone was on and awake.

I also wondered if it was just that the led wasn't on, but was really charging. I tried having the phone off with cwm, plugged in charger, led came on/went off, and left it for 30 minutes. It did not charge my battery at all.

Yeah, the problem does not happen if the phone is on and charging.

[Q] Vibrant not charging.

Alright so my Vibrant won't charge. I JUST recovered my phone from a brick, (I was having issues with the battery life on Slim Roms 4.0 compared to 3.9--in the middle of flashing back I accidently wiped my internal memory. As I was recovering it using Odin, my fat cat jumped on my bed and caught on my phone cord bricking it.) Flashed using Heimdall and was able to get my phone into working order.
Now, I placed Slim Roms 4.0 back on my phone initially after the unbricking to have something working on it, even though the battery life less than impressed me.
So I charged it like normal yesterday, got it to 100% and was fine and dandy with it working. (Still sucking up battery life like a vampire in a fat camp.)
So the update 4.1 went live yesterday, I flashed it immediately to that. The battery life was amazing! So I do the normal thing when I flash to a new ROM. Let it die completely before charging it completely. It's now dead and will not charge.
Symptoms;
I plugged in my normal cable for work (a cheap cable I purchased off of Ebay.) And up comes the round loading symbol. Followed by a darkening of the screen, followed by nothing.
One thing to note, is while it has it's loading circle on, the bottom buttons light up when I touch them.
My Steps;
-I attempted different USB ports since I charge through my work computer. No luck.
-I "borrowed" my co-workers USB cord and USB to wall plug. Attempted the new cable in the computer first. No luck.
-Plugged the borrowed USB into the wall charger. Same thing happens.
-Used my own cheapy cable in wall charger. Same thing.
-Took co-workers complete set and plugged it in in a different room. Nothing.
-Took out my battery, plugged in USB, placed battery back in. Nothing.
-Hold down the Vibrant buttons to get into Bootloader, it resets the loading circle and nothing more.
So now I'm sitting here wondering what to do. I do not have rubbing alcohol readily available, however since it charged to 100% yesterday I do not believe that is the issue, but I'd be willing to try if I had access.
Something you should know, I am using a Samsung Epic 4G battery in my phone.
-For those who might judge saying it is dumb, I have gotten 54 hours out of that battery on one ROM before, that is with texting, talking on the phone and installing apps. I'm fond of this thing, however I have my stock battery at home still.-
Any suggestions you guys have would be appreciated. I have tried things that I found on this forum and basic tech support to no avail. (I am at work so the things I can use are fairly limited. However cords are of no shortage.)
Alright, I unplugged my phone from being plugged into the wall charger for an hour and 3 minutes later it decides to turn itself on.. Not sure what's going on but I'm not going to complain.
So my question now is, can anyone explain this or help prevent this in the future?
From what I've heard draining a battery until it dies can damage it. But, I'm not an expert on that. It's possible that the battery needed more time to recover from the drain.

I had something similar happen when running lithium volt ROM. My battery completely died and the phone cut off (obviously.) I plugged it in the charger and it immediately tried to boot the phone up but it was bootlooping at the startup screen. I let it sit there for 20 minutes or so thinking maybe it is charging but as soon as i unplug the charger the phone cut off. Luckily I have an extra battery, popped it in, flashed a new ROM thinking that was the problem, turns out it was something to do with the ROM(maybe it needed a certain amount of battery power to boot up). My completely dead battery worked on the cm7 ROM I flashed, plugged in the charger and it booted up normally and started charging.

Yea it could be ROM related but it also could be a number of other things. Hopefully flashing a new ROM will fix the issue.

Thank you. I might just have to downgrade back to 3.9. It's almost a shame. xD
I'm going to test my old battery in this ROM just to make sure before I downgrade.
You need to use your Samsung usb charger, and wall adapter only. These two are the only ones that will actually work. I had this same problem and realized it was because I wasn't using the Samsung stuff. Even when pugging into the computer, use the Samsung USB cabe only. As for the battery your using... I wouldn't recommend it, no matter the fantastic battery life you must be getting.

Daw it's a fellow Samsung battery.
Thank you about the cable, I need to purchase another one anyways, mine at home seems to not be connecting very well. :/
ROM. some roms do that. it will not let you power up while charging if the battery is very low. you will get the circle and the battery symbol after. sometimes you still cant unless you pull the battery. happened to me many times

I followed that guide but nothing to do
i can't get in S/w upgrade mode
i'm thinking in motherboard issue
or related to motherboard something that blocks battery charging from cable
(if i try to charge it externally? would be useless?)

Hey buddy don't worry, use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292828 guide to get into fastboot mode, once you get there then you'll have your problem solved, you could flash new recovery and you could unlock your boot loader if that is locked... May be you don't get success first time but keep trying you will defenetly get success, also Google some basic adb and fastboot commands they'll help you... Good luck... And follow the guide thoroughly.... It will get you out of trouble.....:good:

Same thing happened to me last night I left phone on charger during the night and could not turn on in the morning. I tried fastboot with no success. Did you try to replace battery?
I would guess the battery needs a JumpStart. I mean omap4boot seems unlikely to work as the device needs the battery in to stay on so I'm guessing battery needs charging somehow. If the phone ever flickers on for a brief instance when using omap4boot then I would assume the phone is still good.

It needs a fair amount of current during boot up, a charger may not supply enough.
Batteries last 1-3 years. I just look at replacing them as part of normal maintenance.
Get it out of there before it fails... any swelling is an Li failure which can cause severe damage.

Try replacing the battery, then go from there.
It may be a dead end but you need to eliminate it as the cause. You could also check it's voltage after a failed boot to get an idea of it's condition.
Fully charge it first... and don't short it out while measuring it. Measure before and right after boot attempt with no charger.
4.3 volts is about 100%
3.9 volts is about 70%
3.5 volts is about 20%
Since it's a no load reading at 100% it should be near 4.3 volts. After the attempt if it drops below 4 volts it's likely toast.
Thanks
But isn't the display supposed to turn on when I plug in the charger
Not even the display shows anything..

Probably time to have it examined. May be a loose connector, a C-port or a mobo failure.
Or may be from a bad flash...

Not for sure it sounds like either the C port pcb or mobo is bad.
Any indication the battery is charging ie heat when on the charger?
