I've been doing this **** for well over 2 yrs now and im either having a serious brain fart of perhaps this hasn't been entirely, exactly discussed yet .... I have googled til the cows come home and can't find an answer.
Im on hboot 1.50 with S-on bootloader is unlocked through HTC Dev
I want to flash the new i.c.s. PG86IMG.zip that Freeza (the one without the new 1.57 hboot) just put out to go along with the ICS ruu that Virtuous has put out however I know that I cannot just put the pg86img on my sd card and flash it by holding down the - volume button and power through bootloader....
MUST i relock my bootloader, ruu it back to stock and then go about it doing that way OR is there a way that I can use commands to flash the PG86IMG.zip file?????
Help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I just relocked my bootloader, RUU'd it back so now I have a relocked bootloader, with hboot 1.50 S-on and when I take my battery out, put it back in- hold down vol down while pressing power....then it scans and finds the pg86img.zip but it does not offer me a chance to install the pg86img I'd REALLY appreciate some input here. Thanks.
I was too lazy/tired to downgrade so I just wiped and flashed just to see what would happen and it worked. After it booted, it was stuck on the HTC setup so I pulled the battery and rebooted it. I'm on Hboot 1.50 with S-ON.
I cannot for the life of me get the PG86IMG.zip file flashed.... i've PM'd a few different dev's but heard nothing back yet.
Man you should have atleast unlocked your bootloader first see if you can boot in to boatloader and fastboot USB if so then you can correct the problem
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
And no you don't need to relock to install a ruu if your unlocked when you run the ruu it will relock it for you

Did you check the sticky and find football thread and you will need to download the the original ruu or close to it and you may get lucky and find one that will give you hboot 1.4 if this is what your after

yeah i talked to football and he didn't have a clue what to do.

did you flash in hboot or through recovery?
did it re-lock your phone?
Question is your boatloader locked
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
You will have to unlock your boatloader again through HTC dev if you still have the unlock token then you don't have to redownload it just use the one you have see if that works

Holly ****t i think I see what's happening your in a bootloop and it is possible that the boot.IMG didn't flash properly

And since your s on you will need to unlock your bootloader and then flash revolutionary version of cwm and then flash a Rom like lee droid that way you will rooted but you will still have s on this is where you should have started in the beginning

This is such an annoying issue. I can run an ruu.exe such as RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_Radio_1.06.00.1216_NV_NV_spcs_1.42_release_233304_signed_2.exe and go back to stock without any problems, I can unlock my bootloader, I can "root" the phone, even though I am on hboot 1.50 with S-ON the problem is no matter how many ways I try to flash
PG86IMG_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.13.652.1_Radio_1.06.00.0426_NV_1.53_144_release_259069_signed.zip that Football sent me, I cannot get it install it after it scans and finds it -renamed to PG86IMG (.zip) it always goes back to hboot and says:
CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
If it was me I would just root

Depending upon which DEV i've spoken to, i've been told to try this that and the other and lol nothing works. I dont get it. I've been told to go back entirely to stock unrooted; that didn't work. Been told to root it, that didn't work.
I never had any problems flashing roms using htc dumlock but the problem is, the file I am trying to flash is not one that can be flashed through CWM/TWRP, only by being renamed PG86IMG and being started through hboot.
any other suggestions? hell i'll try em all!
I would go back to stock and start from scratch
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
LOL im back to stock started from scratch and nada.
i'll end up most likely having to wait, like everyone else for the .exe file to be released
cid incorrect
oh and you need to change your cid number to HTC__001 and it will work
With HTC unlock, you cant flash radios (freeza's zip) & splash screens that are part of those custom PG86IMG zips. The only way to flash an Ruu is to have stock recovery/relocked and to flash the same or newer fw version (2.08, 2.17, etc).
I'm not 100% sure but the ics leak version is 1.13 which may not pass the version check.
I've read some posts that indicate an hboot 1.4 downgrade for S-off is required as things sit right now. Definitely changing daily though.

To further reiterate, S-ON means you do not have permissions to certain partition of the phone to flash radios, or flash kernels/roms without the 1.5 fastboot workarounds. The firmware freeza has, requires access to that certain partition. So without s-off (1.4) you cannot flash the firmware/radio for ICS.
So I tried flashing MeanRom the ics version onto the Evo 3d, and it flashed it. But every time it booted into the lock screen it rebooted itself. So I tried going back to the back up I made. But did not work, tried flashing a different rom but did not work also. It will go into recovery which was twrp but switched it to Ext4. So whatever I try it will just go into the HTC logo and get stuck there. I am at a loss, Please Help.
I will keep trying, but I'm running out of ideas
it does have s-on
hboot 1.50.0000
u r s-on so u need to flash the boot.img by the fastboot

I had this exact same issue after trying to flash Myn's ICS ROM with Touch Recovery on 1.5 s-on..How I was finally able to fix it was to delete the 4 ext folder off my SD card. Then I booted into fastboot and pushed TWRP recovery back onto my phone and flashed a gingerbread rom. If you need help pushing the recovery via fastboot, this thread is the answer. Be sure to give JTNiggle some thanks.

Good luck.

Doesn't EXT4 Touch Recovery take care of that for you? That was my impression. Off topic, I know..
evo rebooting
yes 4ext recovery takes care of that and you guys should be using it and make sure you have smart flash enable
I did try flashing a gingerbread rom with twrp but didn't work, which is why I flashed ext4
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Well I used the dumlock method, which should have helped me flash the rom without manually going into my computer to flash via cmd right?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Happens to me too!
To flash a new ROM, go to your computer, Command Prompt , type in the direction of your recovery. ex= cd\evo3dTWRP, then type in "fastboot boot recovery.img (or whatever the name of your recovery img is), press enter and your phone should boot into Recovery. Wipe all data, then flash ROM.
BTW: Do you have Smartflash Enabled in 4EXT,?
Well bootloader is working and the recovery is too, I used twrp but noticed it wasn't working so I flashed 4ext. But for some reason it won't boot up roms (of any kind) or even restore my backup. The recoveries will restore or flash the rom. But once I reboot the phone it will just get stuck on the HTC logo. Yeah smartflash is and was enabled.

THANK YOU
YEEEEEES THANK YOU EVERYBODY, I got it back up and running, needed to manually flash boot.img for the rom. But before flash the rom.

If you're trying to install an ICS ROM, they tend to bootloop for most who are s-on. I recommend you get s-off.

HI. I have a big problem... I tried flashing an OTA file with CWM recovery, and now I get to the HTC white screen with no Quitely brillant below
My hboot is unlocked and I am s-on
I could probable y access fastboot, though I cannot tell right now I cannot use it on the computer I have, but if I access fastboot I have the regular options, and the buttons works. if I choose recovey , I see a android CWM and a small bue progress bar and it reboots back to "Normal" wich is being the white HTC screen right now
I am able to access Hboot which makes me think that I can probably get out of this by flashing back my original RUU.
Pleasae tell me that i am right:
I thought of trying a factory reste to start with , but I am not sure this will work because of the recovery I installed.
My hboot is unlocked.
is it bad Doctor?:crying:
try flashing the stock recovery, then flash the ruu again.
it seems to be leading to something like this ... I'll try
And it worked!!!
I was able to relock the hboot prior to running videotron Ruu executable file. This worked like a charm... I have learned my lesson. I'll wait for my turn to be pushed. Thank you all.

no, the bootloader needs to be locked to flash any ruu file
Dude flash stock recovery relock boot loader then flash the RUU most recent one. And if your gonna unlock boot again and flash another custom recovery us 4ext its the best one in my opinion a lot of options very simple nice user interface no troubles as of yet. Plus it basically like having S-Off cause of smart flash it flashes kernels together with rom. Its 3.00$ on market or you can get it for free from internet or other apps. If anything feel free to pm me

Hi all i just tryed the root method for gsm, i have now unlocked bootloader and s-on with 1.58 and ota update to ics. All went well but i cannot for the love of me get into recovery i have used your image an tryed another 1 but i either get it stuck on the htc emblem or it just boots normal. How long should it stay on the htc emblem, most i let it sit was about 15 minutes. Any help will be much appreciated.
Cheers
John
Which root method? Htc-dev + rooted sense rom ?
Did you intall a custom recovery like 4ext?
Did you choose recovery in bootloader ?
Normally it should just stay a few seconds in the htc screen...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I got unlock fine via htc unlock and installed 2 different recoverys and then go back to recovery it just sits on the htc emblem or boots normal.i have done this over a dozen times with reboots inbetwen and with no reboots So in the end i cant get root as i cant get to recovery. I have seen this qestion asked a few times on different sites to get no answer so as i said earlier any help would be appreciated.

It is the model x515m and every where i google it states its gsm.i can turn cdma on and when im in a telstra 3g area i get reception,i dont know if that means anything.
android 4.0.3
sense 3.6
software 3.28.720.1
h boot 1.58

s-on

Have you using fastboot? Try fastboot flash recovery recovery.img where that's the name of the recovery file.
Coal tryed that idea allready ,what gets me is adb tells me it was successful with the recovery install but then just boots like normal or stays on the htc emblem.i have seen a few ppl with the same problem on evohacks but again no one can answer the question for any of us.From what i gathered the htc dev unlock was the hardest bit with ppl having problems but that part went smooth as for me.
Cheers
John
I have even uninstalled htc sync to try but still no luck.
Have you try to flash another recovery like cwm or twrp?
Or try re download the recovery.img file, I'm suspecting the recovery file maybe corrupt.. Btw are you sure your devices gsm? AFAIK 1.58xxx should be CMDA, GSM is 1.53xxx..

Hey guys. Long story short, my friend wanted me to root his Evo 3D. I got S-Off using the HTC Dev Unlock method, flashed Ext4 Recovery, and ROMs wouldn't flash from within the recovery. So I flashed TWRP 2.6 using fastboot, and now I get a "CID Incorrect! Update fail!" message when I enter hboot. This wouldn't be a problem, except fastboot doesn't work. I realize now that I wasn't supposed to flash stuff with the recovery (I come from the Nexus 4).
Basically: CID Incorrect message is keeping me from flashing anything
How do I get rid of it?
HTC Evo 3D on Virgin Mobile
S-ON (Even though it's HTC Unlocked, so it's technically S-OFF)
HBOOT-1.58
WAS running CM 10.2, but it may have flashed P.A.C. Rom, but I can't get past the HTC splash screen
I don't care how dirty and quick the fix is, I just want one so I can get this thing off of my hands.

Technicaly, you just unlocked bootloader. S-off is totaly different thing and you can't get it with HTC Dev. Try flashing some sense ROMs
That's just it, I can't flash anything because fastboot won't detect the device.
