G-Tab with TabnTab
Right out of the box... it would not boot. The Viewsonic splash came up... then the "G" Tab splash... then screen went dark. Pressed the Power button to turn it off - and after 3 attempts to start, I got the TabnTab splash and the thing started. After running battery down, turned it off and when tried to boot... same thing -- only worse. After dozens of tries, nada. Finally did the Power + and On/Off and reset to factory. Did this a couple of times during the day as the problem reoccurred.
It's finally running somewhat... keeps going into some deep sleep mode that requires a reboot -- and then more of the same... the latest attempt how has the TabnTab splash up... but it is "running" a LONG time.
I left a message at the dump tech support number -- after some lady answered w/o even saying a company name. I'm not holding my breath for a return call.
I'm a complete newbie... but has a slight background with other OS'... so if there is something relatively "safe" to fix this... send your suggestions.
I do have a 8GB SD card in the machine.
Thanks in advance for any help...
Follow this link to all the info you need to install a new os or just install cwm to clear cash and factory reset.

Boot Problem
Mine does the same with build 4349, and has done it since 4349 was released.
I talked to "Ken" at G-TABLET Support, and he said my tablet just needed to be re flashed in a way that only the "factory" can do it. He issued me and RMA and I am sending him the unit tomorrow.
I you want more info Email me at [email protected]
You might also want to try an SD repartition (but you'll need the 1.2 version of clockworkmod for that) - the gtab for dummies site has the link.
You could RMA it and get something just as bad, so I wouldn't do that quite just yet. Usually we try things in this order, before we give up completely:
- Wipe data (which you already did)
- Re-flash the ROM. For 4349, there are ways to do that, as well as older stock ROMs.
- SD repartition, via clockworkmod. This actually solves a LOT of issues, so I would definitely attempt it.
- Re-flash with nvflash (the last ditch effort).

Probably either an SD repartition or nvflash is my guess.
Good luck!
Going RMA route
Well, I did everything but the ROM and Kernel mods... and it worked for a few hours.... but after turning it "off," it went back to not booting completely.
I finally got a response from the 3rd-party support company ("Ken" -- who signed his email "Joe" -- go figure....) and he promptly issued a RMA when I told him... "It wouldn't even boot right out of the box...)
Kind of funny... U.S. Merchants is in freaking Beverly Hills, CA! "Biz must be good!"
hello xda. been browsing for a couple weeks, but finally registered today.
I have run into a problem I would like to try and solve without having to go through my insurance or carrier. my phone bricked itself after only 16 days, with 0 modifications on it. it was factory stock still. let me describe what happened, and what I did:
1st problem: I was using my online banking app (reputable bank), when the app minimized to the main screen; however, nothing OS related loaded. the phone just froze. only the wallpaper was visible. I tried powering it down, but it wasn't responding, so I pulled the battery, and put it back in. I powered on the phone, it loaded the SAMSUNG screen, then went to the Exhibit II 4G page, but then it stopped. it failed to load past the Exhibit II splash screen. no matter what I did, it stayed there. I googled for hours, trying various things, until I finally found this site with a stock rom setup.
2nd problem: I followed jocala's guide for flashing it, using Odin 4.43, and after it finished flashing, I got a "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again." so now I have been googling this issue, and I cannot seem to find anything on how to fix it. I don't understand how my phone can just brick itself while using a banking app that i'd been using since I got the phone.
any help would be appreciated
also, if this isn't the forum for it, feel free to move it. this just looked the most appropriate seeing as there wasn't a board for the phone specifically.

Howdy, DBNP,
The Exhibit II is pretty much unbrickable...you won't need to resort to esoterica like jtag
The guide in the Exhibit II Wiki usually works out well. I'd try booting into stock recovery, doing a data wipe, then install stock with Odin. The Wiki has the links to the files you need. BTW, I didn't write the Odin portion @ the wiki; I just hosted required files when the links went stale.
Easy way to start recovery
* Pull the battery from your phone.
* Connect phone to your pc via usb.
* Press & hold Volume-up
* Insert battery
Once you're back up and running first thing you should do is install Clockworkmod. HTH, & good luck.
I cannot get my phone to get into recovery mode, though. if I press volume+up, the phone simply displays the firmware error message. thus, I cannot do a data wipe.

This has never failed for me. IDK, Perhaps your earlier Odin try wiped the recover partition. Can you get into Download mode? (hold Power-on Vol-Down)
I can enter download mode, but I cannot enter recovery mode. volume down gets me into download, while up gets me the error message. I cannot get to that menu anymore.

Are you saying that you get an error when you press Vol-Up at the initial "Warning!" "A custom OS can cause..." screen, the initial download mode screen?
when I press and hold the vol-up sequence, it takes me to the initial error of "firmware upgrade has encountered an issue..."
when I press and hold the vol-up sequence, it takes me to the menu where it says custom OS etc., press up to continue, down to cancel (restart phone).

OK, that's good. That tells us that your exhibit2's /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 partition is undamaged. AFAIK Odin when properly used, can flash a new rom to your phone. Please try again, following the instructions in the wiki, reading carefully, downloading any files that you need, if you don't have them. Please walk through the wiki procedure to reflash stock from Odin, this procedure has worked for many, many people. Keep careful notes, you may be an edge case for some reason.
I'm posting links to this thread in the discussion threads that we use, since we're not allowed a forum. These threads get the most attention.

yeah, I have tried doing that myself, as well as my friend who is rather skilled with android devices. he tried that all himself today, as well as attempting add. nothing worked.

I think you and your friend did it wrong. You should try again, following the wiki carefully.
we re-did it this morning step-by-step with no new results. we tried three times.
odin does its thing successfully, then when it goes to reboot, instead of going into recovery mod, it just goes to the firmware upgrade issue message.

Sorry to hear it. If Odin won't fix your phone and you've only had it a few weeks, I'd return it. I've linked your thread to our discussion threads, perhaps someone else has an idea.
that's the issue. because I have tried to flash it via odin, they're saying they won't take it because of the firmware upgrade error that keeps coming up. :/
because they won't take it, and the normal flashing to stock method isn't working, what do you think I should do next?

I don't know who "they" are, but the chances of anyone at a T-Mob store or a Walmart knowing you touched your phone with Odin or even what Odin is are practically nil. "It's three weeks old, I turned it on and it doesn't work. Gimmie my replacement."
Or seek out a repair service to reflash your phone.
all right, i'll take it back and get a different rep. thanks for your help, though

Hello everyone,
As this is my first post, i'd like to apologise in advance if this issue i'm about to detail has been posted before, but after about a month's worth of trial and inevitable error, reading everything i could find and following every walkthrough i've come across to the t...i'm at wit's end here.
So, i've got a Galaxy SII GT i9100, standard euro version i suppose, my provider is Vodafone Romania (wretched buggers the lot of 'em).
My troubles had started ever since the update from 2.3 with which the phone had arrived, to 4.0.3. I made the update through my home wifi, and i'm guessing the software was provided by either Google, Samsung or Vodafone Ro.
In any case, 4.0.3 was a lot more sluggish and badly calibrated in terms of touch responses and video lag while streaming.
About a month ago i got another notification to update to 4.0.4. This update worked fine for about 20 minutes till the thing decided to freeze up completely, and not turn off from the power button held down a while.
After i had removed the battery and turned it back on, i simply got the following message: "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Naturally Kies is a steaming pile and recovery fails every time with a message composed only of empty squares instead of text, i'm guessing it's because i lack a certain language pack, but the only option is "OK".
So i turned to Odin, when that failed, instead of wiping the counter before sending it into the warranty, i did not. so they voided my warranty because it seems Odin is "unauthorized".
Multiple tries and failures later, quite a few attempts by other people that know more about this than myself...some have said i've got corrupt flash memory while other say "NAND rw corruption".
I'm a rather experienced pc builder...but this seriously stumps me.
I've also tried the walkthrough here on XDA with the same results.
So any new input would be much appreciated...be it through skype or another medium.
can you enter the download mode, if yes then try flashing stock firmware which comes with .PIT file (using odin)......may be that will help
try this thread as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458

cheers

pretty much what i'm thinking as well, there should be a way to restore it without resorting to cannibalism and taking a broken phone's mobo.
but i have been searching and being new to these forums i've no clue who to contact, but anyways, thanks for the reply sir. my thanks

Come on,are you trying different things like disabling kies/USB cables/ports/different PC.
Have you tired flashing the stock Rom through Odin? You can find it at sammobile.com.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
as i've stated in the first post, i've tried almost everything. this includes flashing a series of different roms, kernels, pits etc.
as well as trying it with kies uninstalled, and since it's been attempted by other people, i'm guessing it's superfluous to try it on another PC than my own because others have already done so with it. and the cable is just a cable.
i have the same problem and i still searching
when i try to mount the data partition it fail
i tried all things but still no solution
come on guys help us to revive our sgs2
so far, the most i've accomplished was bringing it from the error message to the boot screen where it remains forever...by flashing the bootroom.
but if i tick "nand erase all" it fails to do anything.
No bumping
Do not bump this thread. The answer will come because someone knows it, not because it's bumped every few hours.
which reatmne
sorry about that, i'll cut the bumping then...i'm just...beyond frustrated at this point...it's been a brick for about a month now...nobody seems to know how to fix the blasted thing
Maybe...
I had once got stuck.
If you could get to the recovery, i think you can try wipe data, wipe data, wipe data....................
Then flash stock rom, or those you think is reliable.
wipe and flash. wipe and flash.
If you can't, use ODIN....... the only way
flash and flash the stock rom or any others.............
if it works, there you are.
Hope it works!!
you may wanna read the whole topic before replying, just saying
Your phone's obviously stuffed and only one of two (but 95% likely only one) things is going to fix it (nothing anyone here can suggest will).

I am pretty sure I know the answer but want to make sure its true as its a costly issue: I did some searching and found a lot of threads with different options over the last few years, so just want to confirm; I have:
Asus Transformer Prime TF201, unlocked with latest ICS official (WW) installed via SD Card
I was intending on giving the tablet away to a family member, so decided to factory reset the device. I went to the PWR+VOL Down menu, and selected wipe which I read was the way to perform a factor reset. After a long time of this process, the tablet powered off (was plugged into mains with full batteries). I powered on by pressing PWR button some time later. Now the tablet just boots onto the screen that states "The device is UnLocked" in the top left, ASUS in the middle (and some lies about perfection), and the bottom right "Powered by Nvidia TEGRA".
If I power on:
1. PWR + VOL Down, nothing happens, it boots to the same screen, no menu
2. PWS + VOL UP, the screen is black, the tablet vibrates and if i have it plugged into a PC it detects it in APX mode.
I've tried a full power cycle, and read about the nvflash tool. I unfortunately have no nvflash backups, I'm not sure that tool was around when I unlocked the tablet, and as i'd not been flashing any custom roms (although I had intended) I'd not seen that tool before.
As I understand the state of affairs is:
1. Somehow the bootloader is jiggered, i guess the wipe didn't work right
2. APX is useless if you don't have some backups created with a tool
3. The only current solution is to send it to ASUS and pay almost exactly the same price as a new tablet costs
Is there any other options I can do with an unlocked tablet and only access to APX?
Any likelihood that there is anything that can be done with nvflash in the future without needing a custom backup that is unique per tablet?

Bricked TF201 - Stuck in bootscreen
I have the exact same problem. :crying:
Please, I know that there are many brilliant minds in this forum, help us n00bs get out of this mess and lead us into the light. Oh, and bump this thread
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I hate hit and run thread posters so I will provide an update.
I am afraid that my tablet was bricked. No way back from that state after reading the entire internet. I have purchased a replacement motherboard, popped open the case and replaced this. After replacing the motherboard, I now have a working tablet. I wish someone would have documented the NVFlash process requirements previously, but that's the risk of following guides on android sites I guess.
So to summarise the initial post, if you are in that state, at current and likely forever, you are hardbricked and the tablet can not be recovered in that states without a previous backup. The only way for it to be repaired is to send it to Asus who have a database of firmware, etc. and will charge you for repairs (~200€), or to go on ebay and purchase this motherboard:
0K0AMBA000
This will cost you ~80€ + shipping, and you must be comfortable working with electronics. Its mostly very clear when you pop off the case, everything has its place. You will need some plastic case pries and a small screw driver.

This sucks, I did the same exact thing last night factory resetting it to give it to my brother. I still don't understand what exactly I did wrong as I've factory reset this thing before. I had CM on it before but have been using the stock rooted ROM & recovery for the past 6+ months.
bricked?
I've been scouring that internet and haven't been able to find a case exactly like mine, but most are similar. From what I can remember (it's been months since I initially 'bricked' it), I was upgrading a cm nightly and did the data/cache/dalvik wipe like the instructions said and I became stuck in a bootloop after leaving recovery. When I tried volume-down and power, I was left with the original 3 options and after some reboots and shutdowns I ended up doing a factory data wipe. From there, when I rebooted the phone I was left with just 'Wipe Data' and 'Fastboot.' Wipe data does nothing more and when I choose fastboot I am left a message 'Starting fastboot usb download protocol' which never changes.
I have tried to push TWRP onto the device but I can't get into recovery (unless I'm doing something wrong of course). Sorry if I missed a duplicate of my post somewhere on here, but if so can someone at least point me in the right direction? Thanks!

try another ROM
This has worked for me everytime, possibly due to dud bootloader install or some other thing: so long as I was able to recover to CWM with pwr+vol down, I installed virtuous prime rom. This rom was on sdcard already, not sure if you can get from adb if machine in this state. Anyhow, this virtuous prime rom replaced the booting sequence, restored OS and machine worked again.
Asus TF201 stuck on Asus Logo
My Asus Tablet was slow while browsing, and it had JB 4.1.1 with stock rom, so i tried to unlock the device, which was successful and was planning to push the CM11 Kit Kat. I booted in to recovery mode as i could see the 4 icons and then tried to do wipe data/factory reset and then it rebooted and got stuck on the asus logo and at the right bottow with the message powered by NVIDIA Tegra. I tried all the options to get into recovery and also downloaded drivers on my laptop for APX, but no luck at all. What are my options or if any one was successful to get it fixed. Appreciate any help here from smart guys out there. Thanks

Thats it. i took the SD out of it and same bit when I tried to access it I seen Update and recovery files and roms folder so looks like someone tried to mod it but failed.
Is there a way I can recover it to working state to ether restore it to factory or any recommended rom...
I kind of need instructions because I never messes with this type of issue yet, as in I haven't bricked a device to this state before.
I also need to find a charger for it. looks like connecting the USB does not charge the Gtab
Id prefer recovering it to FACTORY SOFTWARE.
Im just not sure where to get the Factory software and how to go about recovering it...
So far I found out that this unit possibly has Bootloader v1.2 but recovery that was loaded onto the device was for bootloader v1.1
I do know know what the previous owner tried to do to it but failed and screwed up the device. Im just trying to fix it back to working condition.
It does not matter if its factory rom or a modded rom, as long as its stable.
Also I read up I need NVflash or something like that to recover the units bootloader ignorer to get it to work.
Any help is welcome, and I thank you all in advance.
Well I did the stuff from one of the posts here using nvflash.
Nvflash —bl bootloader.bin —getpartitiontable p.txt
Returned the SOS partition to be 11
Then tried the:
Nvflash —bl bootloader.bin —download 11 recovery.img
Finished successfully but I still have the message while trying to enter recovery:
Recovery key detected
Booting recovery kernel image
Then just sits there with the birds background.
When I try to normally boot it it does boot but I can’t open settings or anything and I constantly get this error message:
The process Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again with force close button.
It constantly pops up, like once every 3-5 sec.
when i got mine it was messed up too, sounds very similar. When I got to the Viewsonic birds logo I let it sit forever and i thought it was done for, but after sitting for literally hours it actually booted up and i've been using ever since. that was about 6 months ago. just find a charger for it, i cut the end off one with the wrong voltage and attached it to an adapter with the correct voltage and amperage. It says on the back of my device "dc 12V 2A" then get it to the birds logo and set it down. Go have a day at the park or let it sit overnight, go to work for a day, out for dinner. do something so you're not sitting there looking at it every five minutes. Good luck!
Would it be possible for anyone to provide me with either the files or operational links to the files needed to recover this device?
I've scoured this forum and found nothing but dead links to NVFlash and the like. Thanks in advance!
Seems like there are a few of us still rocking this piece of hardware, me included. I"m stuck in the same dilema and the links to all the restore files haven't been preserved. Is it best to just concede that the tablet is ancient history and go purchase a new one or are the nvflash files available somewhere on the web?
