download dolphin from the market. I think the stock browser has issues with compressed files. I have the same issue and use an alternate browser.

Ok try is app "DOWNLOAD ALL FILES" in market...that should solve your issue....and yes the stock internet brower sucks....try firefox, dolphin.or even opera, there more user friendly when clicking files to download....good luck and keep us updated..

the zip i was trying to download has a try limit of 3, i didnt know that so it failed and now the link to that file only exists in the download list of the default browser. Does anyone know where i can rip the link from the phone so i ca attempt it on my pc

[Q] Downloading files from Internet?

Hi guys,
I'm curious why I cannot download any files from Internet on my S2 using the default browser. I tried a .zip and .rpm file link, both don't work. Is there a specific file restriction, or did I missed some setting? I'm trying to determine the real HSPA+ speed I get on Bell network and I think the best way is to simply download a 1MB file. I'm not familiar, do we have some sort of stats or details when we download a file?
I'm not interested to install some third party downloader.
Thanks for your help.
In cant download, do you mean it saves the file as a .htm file?

No, you download a .zip file from mediafire for example. If it can't download, why the Downloads app has a tab called Internet Downloads?

I'm not interested to download third party apps, I just want to know WHY the Internet Downloads are not enabled on S2 with the default browser, even if we have a system app that monitors this part.
Stock browser does not work with all files, just use downloadallfiles and it will download all files. Does not harm the system in any way and a useful tool.

Sorry, I don't want to sound rude but... did you guys read my OP question?
I don't CARE about third apps, I just want to know WHY I cannot download files with stock apps and what file types I can download.
If anyone could let me know what files can be downloaded and managed by Downloads app, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
Download "ASTRO" manager from market.

Heh, you're a funny guy.
Whoever wonders what file types are handled by Android, here it is an example:
Code:
Content-Type: application/octet-stream
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="filename.{ZIP,PDF}"
Yes, the filename is case sensitive. Android does not use file extensions, so you need to supply an appropriate MIME type in your HTTP responses.
As a side note, I thought XDA is a developer forum where questions like the ones I asked are something normal.
If you haven't already understood, there are options you can enable to allow stock browser to download all file types, they have been mentioned now on this thread.

Ok, maybe you are French first language, let me explain this, you can patch the browser to download any file type with astro etc.very easy solution and you don't give up the stock browser!
Ie NOT a third party downloader, but a stock browser enabler.
I really have no idea what is so hard to understand what I asked.
For the Nth time, I wanted to know "WHY" I cannot make the Android browser download a .zip file (for example).
All you have to do is send the proper headers to your Android browser (that is the WHY part), it will work. I can upload a zip archive to one of my servers and create a php file with a header like that:
Code:
$file = 'mytestfile';
header('Content-Type: application/octet-stream');
header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="' . $file . '.ZIP"');
I don't CARE there are programs, patches or dancing cowboys that can enable file downloads into my phone.
I simply wanted to know the "WHY" part. Man I'm exhausted...
Why is it worth worrying about when the fix is a piece of piss?
Without the fix, the phone can only download a minimal number of file types, with the fix, it can download all, what are you waiting for?

Downloading rom problem

When I downloaded the cognition rom v1.6 a message comes up that says widget locker at the top. Then gives 3 options to install, install and add or cancel and the message asks if i want to install the theme. Is widget locker geting in the way of the download some how? Also when I browse for the zip on sd card I can't find the name of the file even tho the download said it was complete.

download directly from smartphone sometimes will break (due to wifi / data / server connection intermittent ) especially if you download from direct download provider (multiupload, filesonic, hotfile, etc) not from direct server. please check back the md5 after you download and compare to the original file.
but it's advisable to download from pc and then transfer to your phone.
btw, if you finish download the rom, flash it using cwm .. do not open the zip file (in your case, i dont know why do u want to it ? )
also make sure the rom, for your bell i9100M is compatible or not with the normal i9100. because i found out the i9100G is not compatible.

[Q] How do I download files from the internet to my phone?

I plan on flashing this mod, and when I open the link to download the file on my phone it wont download. I can click the download button as many times as I want and it wont download. How do I get the file on my phone?
Try using a browser with support for the file type you are downloading ..try dolphin browser hd.or it could be because the file has been taken down by someone

Tried that, but after a minute it said download unsuccessful.
Try this...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hwkrbbt.downloadall&hl=en
If that doesn't help then you're stuck with downloading it on PC and copying it to the phone.

Then I would say its a broken link or connect on either side.

4.03.605.2 ruu

Does anyone have a valid download link for this RUU. I've tried all of the links from Android Police and they either give me a "folder invalid" message after the download, or they give me a broken link. I found a dropbox link from the thread in the General section and I got the same invalid message. I really need to flash this RUU. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

I tried all the Android Police mirrors and the links either don't work, or I get the invalid folder error after the download finishes (mirror 1). Also, that torrent link wasn't working.
EDIT: I just tried the first mirror on AP for the 4th time and still getting the error. Is there anywhere else this RUU is located?

I just redownloaded the file, AGAIN, from Android Polices AP Mirror #1 (which is hosted on beta.androidfilehost.com, a solid reliable hosting site) by clicking the link then the green arrow circle... about 3 minutes and it was done, double checked MD5 and it's still a match. If all these sites don't work for you AND the torrent doesn't work either, maybe the problem isn't with the mirrors or the file...

I tried this link after reading your post and I am downloading now. The green arrow may be misleading because it looks like those sponsored links. I first used the wrong blue download link at the bottom, not even considering the green arrow...
Mirror #1 worked great last night

The torrent didn't work because it didn't have any seeds.
As far as the RUU, I was only able to get Mirror 1 to work from my wife's phone. I tried downloading it on 3 different PCs at work (since my own phone isn't working) and each of them gave me the invalid folder error. Just a heads up to anyone else trying who possibly gets this error.

Check your winzip program. I kept getting a corrupt file error on every zip file I downloaded and ended up being the program not the file. I changed to 7zip and the error went away.

Thanks for the suggestion. The download I used from my wife's phone worked fine. I'll have to download 7zip on my work PC.

(Q) How can I change allowed size of data permitted by file system.

Hey there.. I'm hoping someone can answer this and help me figure it out.. When I try to download a file that's really big, I think anything over 1.5gigs, with UTorrent for Android the program won't download and throws up an error saying file is too large allowed by file system.. How can I change this.. Or even make the file download to a USB flash via otg?. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I didnt know they finally had an app. Sweet. I just tried it out and no issues.

You can't change the supported file size of the file system. And I've also never seen a file system with a 1.5 GB file limit, at least not in a long time.
