Hey, I'm thinkink about switching from a X10 on Rogers to a HTC desire on Telus because where I'm located I can only get the EDGE network on rogers.
Do you think the HTC desire is a good phone, or better or worse then X10?
Considering its almost identical to the nexus one I would assume its a pretty decent phone

i personally like x10 more, but desire is better though...
Im sure the phone itself is great but i dont know a single person with telus whos happy about the network or their services
Moving from a X10 to Desire isn't much of a leap. I suggest keeping the X10... unless you absolutely *must* have a Desire.
I agree with @javagreen

Where I'm located in Nova Scotia Rogers doesn't have 3G available and its coverage is pretty week, Telus has 3G everywhere and way better coverage though.
I don't really have any issues with the X10 or special attraction to the Desire its just the Desire would probably be my best option if I switched to Telus, UNLESS there was some issues or problems the Desire has that I don't know about. Or something majour that the Xperia has or can do that the Desire can't.
From what I gather the Xperia won't be moving past 2.1 and the Desire has 2.2 now so I know that much.
Well my sister has a Desire since she's with Telus, i'd think its not bad considering its running 2.2 froyo and has decent support.
But if you absolutely must switch to Telus, you could potentially unlock your X10 to have it work on the Telus network since they essentially use HSPA or you could wait for them to launch the Desire HD.
I didn't think my X10 would work on Telus because of the whole Rogers=GSM(sp???) and telus = CDMA. I'm actually really interested in the new Motorola Atrix 4g but thats going to offered by Bell which I've heard nothing good about plans and billing wise. I know Telus and Bell use the same towers so the Atrix might work with Telus too I guess but I really have no idea. If anyone knows if it would please let me know.

This was the case, however now Telus and Bell have their HSPA+ network, utilizing SIM cards and for 3G, needing the frequency 850/1900 Mhz, which i believe the X10 fulfills. However because they don't have a GSM/EDGE network, the phone won't have any service. Telus and Bell are just gradually distancing themselves from the CDMA network.
Hello Guys
I have a problem outlined in this thread, however nobody seems to know the solution to it.
I've gone through some other treads on difference devices and one thread suggested to replace the sim card with a new one. So i went to the 3Vodaphone store and had the SIM replaced, however the same problem still exist.
I called up 3's tech support and was told imported phones are not supported.
so I am thinking it might be the radio, which is causing the "3" network to reject connections to the Flyer, but! my flyer recognise telstra, optus and vodaphone networks just fine. I want to try different radios to see if i could get my Flyer to work on "3"
i would really appreciate if someone could enlighten me on whats involved to flash a new radio on to the flyer ?
and my questions are :
1) how to identify RUUs from the file name ?
e.g. RUU_Flyer_hTC_Asia_HK_CHT_Wifi_2.27.1302.31_Radio_ 20.3504.30.089BU_3809.07.04.06_M_release_205140_si gned
is this RUU Wifi only ? or 3G as well ?
what about
RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_2.23.405.3_R_Radio_20.3504.30.08 9BU_3809.07.04.06_M_release_204108_signed
what does WWE stands for ?
2) what tools and processes are needed to flash a different radio specifically for the Flyer ?
Regards
Steve
My stock UK 3g flyer (ordered through Expansys) works fine with 3.

thanks for the reply tuen, is your flyer rooted and s-offed ?
I've read the phone dialer threads and all of that wonderful stuff, but what I'm trying to figure out is what capabilities, if any, the 3G Flyer (P510e) will have out of the box using a T-Mobile USA SIM card with a regular monthly phone and "unlimited" data plan on it.
Has anyone tried it? If so, what were you able to do? Access data? SIM card was rejected?
If I missed that thread, I apologize, but I can't seem to be able to find any info anywhere.
Thanks.

I just wanted to bump this thread because I am also looking for a answer to these questions.
I have this exact setup; T-Mobile USA SIM in a 3g Flyer. I have the voice disabled on the SIM, but for data purposes, the SIM connected to the network perfectly. Got 4g speeds in Chicago and the burbs. The phone app comes up and works, but because I disabled the voice on the SIM, the network gives me an appropriate error when I try to dial. When I go international, I plan to get an unlocked SIM w/data and a local number, and use the Flyer w/BT as my main phone. Will also prevent massive roaming charges and should allow my Google Voice to work as well.

Since you are getting 4g speeds, I'm assuming that you have the T-mobile USA branded flyer?

That is incorrect; I got my flyer off eBay and it's from overseas (probably Singapore, as that's where the seller lives). I determined 4g access via Speedtests app. It might well be the same unit at what T-Mobile sells, but it's not T-Mob branded.

Thanks for the clarification. I ordered a US tmobile branded flyer from ebay for $350 nd I was hoping to use it as a phone and for data. Since it's similar to the one you have, I'm hoping the roms are the same for it.
There's a process here to identify the RUU you'll need for the Flyer you'll receive:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18508220&postcount=2
Though one of the big uploader sources was shut down earlier today, don't remember which one but the RUU repository might have been there.

Thanks. I'm gonna try it out today and cross my fingers that I can get it to work.
Well dam I'm sorry for wasting your time. Despite winning a 4g flyer on ebay, a wifi flyer arrived in the mail! I have already tried contacting the seller on friday and he still hasn't responded to me. I guess I have to go down the arbritration route with ebay and in the end, I won't have a 4g flyer. Oh well, maybe it wasn't meant to be but thanks for all the info!
Well that sucks! I'm getting accustomed to having my Flyer with me, and the 3g/4g is a godsend when I'm in a hotel with lousy wifi coverage. I'm still looking for a good Honeycomb GSM phone call solution, but so far no decent hacks yet that work. If ICS ships within Q1, that may solve my problem.
Good luck with the arbitration...
Well I finally got in touch with the seller and I got my money back. There is a seller on amazon called "Samy's Savings" who is selling the 3g flyer for only $399. I placed an order and have my fingers crossed about getting the right one this time. I have a question for you though.....What data plan are you using with T-mobile? I was thinking about using the flyer as an phone since I already have data on my main phone. As I've read more on the forum, it seems that the best way to use the flyer as a phone is to either use a bluetooth headset or a wired headset. If this is the case, I will probably just use the flyer as data only. Also, have you tried using the flyer as a portable hotspot? I'm curious to know how it performs this function if at all. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions and have a great day!
Any updates with your Flyer 3g or tmo branded flyer 4g?
Just got a T-mobile branded HTC Flyer 3G, trying to pop in a T-mobile sim card from one of the lines on my family plan that has data but all it's doing when I try to open a webpage is load up the mytmobile website. Is this not possible? Do I have to get a seperate data plan that's tablet specific?

i believe we may have screwed ourselves by getting t mobile branded units. i cannot get data to work with mine, either with my phone sim. i did order another sim i plan to activate with the $3/day prepay and see if that works.
otherwise, yes, you need one of their "broadband" internet plans that does not have voice.i.e.,will not work in phones.

AT&T doesn't support voice and SMS services on tablets, I can tell you that much (although T-mobile does, in theory).
Sorry I can't answer your other questions. But this forum has become very quiet, so I figured even a partial answer is better than none at all!

Family mobile (walmart) works
Is there a free way to unlock a rogers HTC legend to use on the Bell network?
Bell and Virgin originally sold the HTC Legend. If you're on Rogers, it's already unlocked.
That's strange, because I put a Bell SIM card into a Legend that was originally used on the Roger's network and it didn't work
What do you mean by it not working? Does it say it's SIM-locked? Does it require you to enter a code? That shouldn't be right if you used it on Rogers.
It should work super-duper fine, natively brilliant on the Bell/Virgin network. Can you say how it doesn't work?
It says "no service". No prompts for anything.

Ah, then your phone is truly unlocked. Check your APN settings though. You can obtain them by doing a little Googling or asking a CSR. What ROM are you using?
Its running cm7. Its not my main phone, I'm helping a friend out with it. If you could link me to any helpful sites it would be much appreciated.

Be sure to mention if it doesn't work!
So this should allow me to make/receive calls ?

Filling in correct APN settings should allow you to fully utilize Bell's network, especially its 3G network!
Try it! If something horrible happens or if you want to revert, just delete the APN you created and use the previous one. If you have no clue which to use, just backup and restore with nandroid then and there.
To have an HTC Legend used on the Rogers network, with CM7, I had to have had filled out APN settings before it clicked. It shouldn't be like that for a Bell phone seeking to succeed service on the Bell network. What you're experiencing is most strange.
I bought an HTC One AT&T that I unlocked then rooted and installed CM11 using the new CyanogenMod Installer. The issue is that I live in an area where you can only get decent cellular speeds using CDMA (Verizon, US Cellular). There are two GSM carriers however, one that is so old, it doesn't offer anything above EDGE and iWireless, a T-Mobile affiliate. I wanted to use it on iWireless, but all they were able to get was EDGE speeds when they tried it on my One. Is there someway to make it accept at least 3G speeds? Maybe by flashing the radio or something. I've never really done more than rooting and installing a ROM, but I'd be willing to try it if it was possible. Any help is greatly appreciated.
