Hi all, as you probably all know the camera on the Galaxy S2 records video in mp4 format which is perfectly fine for standard playback. However with videos recorded on ics roms (I've tried on lpb, lph and lpq) when you upload these videos to YouTube, or try to edit them in Vegas or windows movie maker, they will always suffer from audio sync lag problems (try for yourself if you don't believe me). My question is, can the recording file type be changed as this may solve the issue (for example MIUI records in m4v format and syncs perfectly)? This is a huge issue for me as I use the camera a lot, but don't want to be stuck on gingerbread if I can help it.
Many thanks in advance.

Hmm, the video is in 3gp format, but it really looks good in outdoors shots. The video is 3gp but the quality is excellent. I tried converting my videos with my professional video editing software to .avi and it really looked good, even on my Sony Full HD Smart TV. I am using the stock camera on my 2.3.4 GB and no, I haven't tried a camera app yet. Not sure which one to try...???

I apologize if I misinformed implying that recording was by default mp4--it does as you say record 3gp--could it be that mp4 was introduced with ICS? Mine is running the ICS update and records mp4, but I don't recall the options from back with GB.
Here's a quote:
"1. Some Android phones may provide support for additional formats or file types not listed in the table. Similarly, some video formats may only be supported by later Android versions."

I don't know if it relates. Maybe you can upgrade your phone to ICS with an official update?
As for apps, I haven't used any, though they're easy enough to check ratings and specs at the Play Store.
Can't make any recommendations, however a simple search turned this up, for example:

Some people have remarked about cameras in the forums, you can do a little poking around.
Good luck.

There is another way If you don't want to upgrade to ICS,
Recording your videos in .3gp, then converting .3gp to .mp4. Since HTC Amaze GB 2.3.4 supports MP4 format.
Here is also a quote:
"It's the wisest choice to convert 3GP to MP4 for playback on most popular players and devices."
From page:

In this way, you don't need to upgrade your phone OS, and also can play your 3GP files on your other devices.
I believe if you upgrade to ICS, the problem will be gone.
Since I had the very same problem

Hi,
my stock from (HTC One V) was ICS and the camera saved videos as MP4. Recently I upgraded to JB4.2.2 (POmega 2.5 custom rom) and now it records as 3gp .
I am looking for a way to change default format to MP4.
Hi All
my rom is official rom ICS build75
my question is why my movies ( 720 , 1080 ) are choppy in movie app and mx player and etc app ?
I test my movies in GB and JB and not choppy and are very smooth .
also my movie use HW for display but are choppy . SW is also very bad .
there is fix or tweak that my movies playback be smooth like GB and JB ?
Maybe that is an issue with ICS? Because it was doing the same thing on mine. The only videos that played smoothly were the 480p ones.

The cause of the problem is The ICS does not leave much RAM for processing the video codec.
The HD videos will make the playback choppy. You can try and stop back ground process and run the video file again.
But not much can be done.
Run videos of lower resolution and things will be fine
hi,
is there any fix yet for the choppy video playback via youtube?
running stock ics and have set defaults for youtube for low video quality
thanks

Welcome to a tegra 2 device. I'm running cyanogenmod and the lagg on video's is pretty much gone
Is there a fully featured lossless (like Amaze or HQ camera) camera for 4.3? Also a video camera that you can focus while recording? I ask this because I really miss using 4.3 roms but I have to keep going back to a 4.0.3 Sense rom just to get a decent camera that I can actually use for recording video. I take a lot of pictures and videos of my reef tank and video recording without the ability to focus is basically useless.
