El Diablo just officially turned on LTE for my part of Ohio. (I've had it on my 900 since day one, with fantastic speeds.) SGS3 feels like a disappointment, it feels like a beefier Nexus. I have one of those bolted to my HDTV.
This guy just really intrigues me. I'm afraid of a refresh though. I hate GB and those damn buttons on the bottom. But. I'm bored. Thoughts?
Get a note?
Should you get a Note? I don't have LTE where I live and more than likely won't until 2090. But there are sooooo many other things I love about my phone.

If you're afraid of a refresh, you'll never buy anything, because the next best thing is always just around the corner. Forget what might be coming (especially if they haven't announced anything about it) and get what you think is going to work for you.
I personally like the buttons, but I can see how some wouldn't. Anyway, they are easy to live with.
Finally ... GB. Haven't run GB in weeks. There's a couple very stable ICS roms out there for the flashing. I wouldn't even bother going back to GB at this point.
Go to the store and try the demo. If you like it, walk out with one. If not, get the one x.

yeah, I thought that was pretty silly too..
I honestly wouldn't, I feel like this phone is way too big and not very practical. There are great ROMs out there and the phone does have some bright points but I would much rather have a Nexus or something similar.
I should say I work out a lot and the Note has not been good for me in those regards, it's just too big to be comfortable. Also I have a lot of signal issues with this phone that have made me less than happy with it.
Just my experience though...
Stock modem is best for signal. If not, yours your service provider.

If you have to ask then your not worthy
If you needs us to answer for you then don't buy a Note. The only thing that is different that won't be on the SG3 is bigger screen and S-pen. So just wait for the SG3.

I "need" food and water to survive, not for you tell me what to do. The point of this thread is to happily listen to the various opinions posted, post my thanks for those posters for sharing valuable time, and decide, in time, what my next purchase is.
And the more I think on your post the more it infuriates the crap out of me. I'm extraordinarily curious as to what makes one "worthy" of a Note? Who appointed you the bestower of "worthiness" to the members of these forums. We were having such a nice discussion before you...
You know? I think it's time for a couple days off from the old XDA. Thanks much to everyone else who took the time to post, I appreciate it. We can close this one off.

Wow, I want some of whatever you are having.
Sure the "need" thing is arguably off-putting. But "worthy"? Did I miss an edit on the post that sent you off?
Eh, bottom line is what are your priorities? Don't think I saw what you were looking for in the original post. For me, I'd still have something with a real qwerty keyboard. I can't type with an iPhone to this date as it is just too small. When the Streak showed up, it was the first device with no physical keyboard I ever could deal with. The Note is the next step. As a bonus, it is the first Android device I ever saw or used that rivaled the ease of use of an iPhone (keyboard notwithstanding). Also the first device I had that weaned many of my iSheep friends away from the dark side. So far, all the converts are happy too. From lauding screen size, to app store choices, to not being annoyed about the speed of the device, they have all been happy.
So, what are you looking for?
As others have alluded to, posting something like this on the Note forum will yield predictably positive responses. Honestly, in this forum its approached i-Fan-like levels of blind following and I was surprised to see someone suggesting you not get it.
Am I happy with mine? Oh, hell yeah. Would I go to anything else? Um, nope. Unless the Note 2 ever shows up, and does something so much better than this thing. I'm currently looking to get a backup one, just in case. Even with as hard as Samsung is pushing this thing, the size isn't for most... I won't hold my breath (despite 5 million sold) that this becomes as popular as the iSheeplephone. I've got 2 Streaks on the shelf for the same reason.... Love the form factor.
I've been thinking about the Note for a while now. I tried to make a Pros/Cons list on whether to buy one or not, and ended up being a draw. Currently I've got a Galaxy Nexus.
I love the HUGE Screen, but it's still very "Samsung-y".
I like the big battery, but just bought an extended battery on my Nexus.
The Camera is really good, but not as quick as the one on my Nexus.
If I buy it, I'll have to extend my contract for 3 years, If I don't, I don't extend my contract.
There seems to be a counterpoint to every point in its favour.
All smart ass comments aside this is the best phone I've ever owned.

I was really up in the air about getting my note, I spent weeks debating it. Eventually I said screw it, I play around on my tiny galaxy S all day long -- the big screen will be so much better, so I got one and the big screen was so much better.
and I lived happily ever after.

There is something wrong with me.
I returned my galaxy note due to the fact that it wasn't as snappy as an S2 and i missed the huge selection of roms... and while I'm happy with the S2 overall (again).. i have found that nearly a month of using the note has shifted my priorities.
I now find myself missing the big screen size more than I thought I would.
Here's my dilemma.
I kind of want the note back. But I've done 2 reverse upgrades already (i'm indecisive as ****)
I got this S2 from walmart because the ATT store here didn't have the original S2 (lte market)
Will walmart let me do a reverse upgrade do you think?
and then would ATT still let me upgrade again?
Would you go back to the note if you were me?
I'm stupid. Feel free to make fun of me.

We all had the lag when it came out, but I'm oh SAUROM, overclocked etc and the Note is SUPER smooth! Not kidding, we're talking butter here...
Literally, ZERO LAG!
There are some seriously slick themes being made, too. Couldn't be happier!
No idea if you will be able to finagle any more upgrades, but if not, you can borrow my S pen to stab yourself in the heart!

Could have told you that lol. Anyone who was considering going back to a S2 after having a Note is Crazy!
Is there a tiny tiny bit of lag once and a while, sure but nothing I'd give the phone up for. I'm on the stock ROM btw. People get to crazy with the "lag" theory. Mines fast as hell, I just clear the RAM once and a while no probs.

Yeah, I'm realizing now that I would trade this smaller screen and zero lag for the bigger beautiful display and slight lag every once in a while.
The rom thing isn't as big to me as I thought it was.

i'd say get it from best buy if you have one near you. i'm biased (i work there selling phones) but i think it has great value.
typically you get someone who is more knowledgable (it varies, not everyone is a phone nerd)
you have the option to get a really good protection plan (no deductible, unlimited claims, water damage coverage, loaner phone, etc.)
and the option to get the buy back which will give you guaranteed $$ back when you trade in your phone w/in 2 years based on retail (its $60 normally, but if you have the protection plan for at least 1mo you get it half off, for $30. minimum you would get back is around your upgrade @ 20% of the RETAIL value which is $799.99)

Yeah, my girl owns the note. Since hers is the name on the account, she got the upgrade/re-up price. I was 3,000 miles away when she got em, so she's had hers a week more than I've had mine.
I admit I turned her onto the Note... I just couldn't stop blabbering about it compared to our Streaks. But she found the Streak not too long after it showed up at Best Buy, and after I went and abused one in the store, I gave the OK to go with the 5-inch candybar. We've had matching phones now for just over 2 years and she'll never be able to go to a smaller phone again.
It's a hoot at dinner parties when one of us takes out the phone (as it has been for a while) and someone, inevitably, comments; "My god, what is that? Is that a phone or a tablet?" Whichever of us had taken it out replies; "Yes, its both (Streak and Note... same difference for most people)" Then the person comes back with, "Wow, I've never seen anything like that before. That's almost too big, how can you use that? I doubt anyone could carry something that big. How do you carry it, does it even fit in your pocket?...." Then the other one of us will take out the other one. All conversation at the table stops. The inevitable iPhone comparison ensues.... 4 iPhones = (not really, but in screen real estate, close enough) 2 Notes. Pictures taken (if there are any phones left after the comparison laying of small useless phones on the big ones), jokes made... on both sides.... lol. "Wow that's so big" Me: "that's what she said" Her: "Why do you think I keep him around?" Them: "Are you compensating for something?" Me "What, both of us?" Them: "I'm not sure I could use something that size" Her: "Oh, I thought so too at first, but after a week or so I was used to it, and I could never have something smaller." Yeah, they are great icebreakers too... at anything from dinner parties to business meetings.

LoL @ over2land's story.
It is a conversation starter though - I've pulled it out standing in the back of an elevator with three people, and the guy standing in front actually came and stood next to me. Three guys shoulder to shoulder on the back wall of the elevator was pretty awkward.
The only other time I've ever had anyone stop me to ask about my phone was when I had the first generation iPhone [when it was still around $400 and not ubiquitous].
In the past three weeks of having the Note, I've been asked about it more times than ever with the iPhone.
This is why some people shouldn't have choices. Apple makes it easy for you... one new phone a year. No choices, no second guessing. And I can see why some people are happier with Apple for this very reason. But if you are going to be an Android user, you need to grow up a bit, make an informed decision, and be happy with it.
Then come to XDA and push that device as far as it can possibly go

Almost every instance on using this phone in public, people either stop and stare or they ask questions. It isn't like I'm trying to bring attention to myself but everyone is always asking if that is the new note. I leave it on my desk at work and whenever people come into my office, I'm asked about it and they want to doodle with the stylus. I hope this interest turns into more sales so that Samsung is prompted to come out with more phones in this line in the future. I simply refuse to go to any other phone now.
If you watched any basketball this weekend, the commercials were constant. They certainly seem to expect good sales:

Your comment seems quite underage. Just because some people have strangers asking them about devices and you don't doesn't mean they are lying or looking for attention.
Really only a few devices in the recent past, such as the Droid RAZR, have received as much media attention and advertising as the Note, so all of your latest tablets and phones have likely not drawn the same attention from the general public. Therefore you cannot compare them to the Note.
I do not show off my phones, I use them. With my Captivate, I received no comments from strangers. With my Infuse, I had a couple, but only from people familiar with Android that were curious what brand and model it was. With the Note, same use and everything, I have received more comments and attention than the whole time I had both of my previous phone, in just two weeks. Dude in line at Chipotle, girl employee at Home Depot, several people I have never talked to in my classes here at college. This phone is turning heads whether you are looking for attention or not, so don't be a downer because nobody finds you approachable.

i don't know about the Advertising
but after using it hands on for a few days I'm addicted, it's so hard to get back to my T989
I get a lot of looks, and some comments. mostly "is that a phone???", "is that the one with a pen?", or "Is that the Super Bowl phone?" (referring the commercials played at the Super Bowl).
I have a gold metallic case on it so most of the time it looks like I am carrying a huge gold bar. Funny the looks I get.
I get asked about it all the time. I'll just be sitting on the train or at the bar or something and I guarantee someone will ask about it.

It's definitely not the advertising. It's the fact that it's a larger phone. I used a Dell Streak for 1.5 years and got the same type of comments about it.

Not worth the time to comment but I will anyway. I use my phone for business, not playing games. I don't "play" with it while waiting in a food line, nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy. Many here do. That is obvious. As far as being "approachable", I am not looking for strangers to come up to me and ask about my phone, and I certainly don't want them "touching" it. The reason I even responded to this post was because the OP stated that the Note exuded a "coolness' factor. That certainly tells me how old he or she is.

I also use my phone for business, not playing games. The only time games get played on my Note is when I let one of my grandchildren use it to keep them occupied. Nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy as you put it. That being said, I still think it has a 'coolness' factor and yes, I have been asked about it in public. I spend a great deal of time on the phone when out - isn't that kind of the point to have a cell? If I didn't want to talk on the phone outside the office, I wouldn't carry it. I really do not mind people asking about it.

Story#1 (2 weeks ago)
I attended my wife's induction into the honor society for her university yesterday afternoon. There were 16 inductees and we all socialized a bit before the ceremony began. I was to pin my wife so I quickly made nice with the couple that sat next to us and asked if they would mind tag teaming on getting pics of the pinning action. All was set. If you could have seen the look on the face of the guy (and others around us). When I pulled out my Note... He said "what is that!?!? ". Of course, I took the opportunity to demonstrate the wonders of the Note to him as his amazement grew. After he got a chance to handle it and snap a few pics of us during our part of the ceremony he was hooked. His wife looked at me and said "I guess he's found a new toy now.. I can see it in his eyes".. I just laughed and went about my business. He had an iPhone.
Story#2 (last week)
So I venture into my local Best Buy to return an item. As I am standing at the return counter waiting for the guy to process my return, I am typing away in facebook and fully engaged on my Note. The young girl behind the counter next to him said "Wow. Is that the Note? I want to get one so badly. My mom won't let me but I am going to figure out a way to get one. I love that phone." I then let her hold it because she was so starstruck with it.. Really... I laughed inside.

Hey everyone,
Just a short summary on me first and what gadgets i've owned before..
Every single iPhone, the 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, Every single iPad, 1,2,3,
The HTC TItan Windows Phone, also I have the new Lumia 900.
The original first Motoroal Droid, and the Nexus one, the LG G2x, the Samsung galaxy S2, the Motorola RAZR MAXX.
As you can see I love gadgets, I don't have an ounce of fanboy'ism in my blood period.
Android in itself actually upset me, i just got tired of all the BS...that's why I hopped around phones a lot.. i got tired of resetting them.. battery pulling..etc etc...the Sluggishness of the UI.. etc.. The SGS2 was really IMO the best Android phone out of all of them that i've ever used.. i loved it.
Now we are here to the Galaxy note... WOW..JUST WOW.. i'm blown away by this thing.. maybe it's the screen size? or the gorgeous looking screen in general?
The build quality is NOT CHEAP.. for those of you reading this.. i was worried about that looking at videos b/c it LOOKS like cheap plastic.. trust me it's not at all.. coming from the RAZR Mazz which is supposed to have a solid back? that thing was garbage compared to this build quality.. I even love the feel of the clicking on the Power Sleep button.
Software-, I used it for 2 hours out of box, and was pretty turned off.. i was thinking to myself.. oh god here we go.. So i RUSHED to the XDA forums looking for roms.. i asked around nobody really answered or helped me so i figured it out on my own.
I ended up choosing the Team perfection Objection (RC3)..
i'm BLOWN AWAY... it's so smooth and fast... EVERYTHING WORKS.. i love it..
I can honestly say this is definitely going to hold me over until the iPhone 6 gen comes out. And it might take a miracle to pull me away because i have a feeling i'm going to fall in love with the huge screen size..
Camera-, it takes GREAT pictures.. i'm sure you guys already know that.. but i just had to confirm for those still thinking about buying.. coming from an iPhone 4S i don't feel bad about this purchase at all..
All in all.. my only frustration is that i don't have an LTE signal yet where i live... it's frustrating b/c it's literally 10 miles down the road! I could literally travel down the road and it picks up... it's also not where I work... =-( I hope ATT gets it's act together.

Everything feels like a toy compared to the Note. My Infuse has a 4.5 inch screen which not so long ago was a monster phone, and now that just feels silly to use. Haha.

Imagine how I feel, I'm coming from my old trusty HD2 running Android... Been holding out for the longest and yes I'm happy I did. When I first purchased the HD2 I was amazed at the size.... Now with the Note, I think I purposely walk around with it in my hand so that everyone could see it. I kind of look forward to hearing comment like "Damn thats a big ass phone! What is it a tablet?". I think thats what get me through the day.... Can't wait till the devs get the official ICS for i717!!!
I really need to root this thing. Had it about a week, switching from Sprint, so we are trying it and ATT out for a bit to see if we want to leave sprint. And I have to say as the phone stands out of the box it's good. But other then the screen it didn't blow me away. But I have a feeling once I start flashing roms its gonna be great.
Not sure i could even entertain the idea of going back to a 4 inch screen iPhone 5 = FAIL

Dude use the Team perfection objection rom... omg... i'm freaking loving it.
As of right now the best rom for the galaxy note is Flappjaxxx's. I've tried 5 of the top roms here and his is BY FAR the smoothest and most reliable..not one single force close on any app and everything works!

Same here... I was using a Samsung Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket and that's no small device. My wife has the same phone. When I hold it in my hand it feels tiny. At this point, the iPhone is a joke. A fragile device with little ability to customize and a tiny screen. No thanks. I know several people who left Apple because the iPhone is archaic and they don't regret it.
Been using this phone for nearly 2 weeks now, and for the most part, I've been happy. However, with the Galaxy S III coming in a few weeks, I feel as though I should have at least waited before figuring out which phone I was going to use for the next 2 years. Because of that I decided to return the phone back to Wirefly and go back to using an old Blackberry until I decide to go back to the LTEVO or the GS III. I sold my E4GT so I can't go back to that.
LTEVO Pros
-Beautiful screen
-Excellent build quality and in-hand feel
-Very good (relatively) 3g performance in my area
LTEVO Cons
-Phone performance not that great, especially after opening and switching between a few apps
-Camera is good, but not nearly as good as I had hoped it would be
The two cons are biggies for me. I know for a fact that the sluggishness is related to software, but if you've ever used a Galaxy S II device, you'll realize how spoiled you were by how fast and responsive that phone was. It's an HTC thing; their software sucks compared to Samsung. Even using the T-Mo GSII based on the Qualcomm SoC felt a lot faster than any HTC phone based on the same SoC. I'm not saying TouchWiz is more functional than Sense, I'm just saying it's FASTER, which is 100% true.
The camera is good but the low light performance isn't as great as I had hoped it would be. Comparing to shots from my GSII, LTEVO shots were much more grainy. I also don't like the HTC camera software, and it might even be Sense related. I feel the software isn't fast nor intuitive. I hate the focusing mechanisms. Call me crazy, but I like crosshairs and boxes that help you determine what exactly is being focused. Also, the software isn't responsive. Taking out my phone and snapping a picture isn't very fast. It's acceptable, but like I said, with another great phone around the corner, there's really no reason why I shouldn't test them both and then decide which of the two I'd rather keep.
I'm not trying to bash the LTEVO. I'm sure we'll all agree, the device is far from perfect (all the devices are, in fact). However, I think most of us have the opportunity of trying BOTH phones before finally deciding which to go with. In a sense (no pun intended), the LTEVO delay was a blessing in disguise. Had it been launched on time, we'd be stuck with it. Now we have the chance of putting it up against a very formidable opponent and choosing which phone fits our style better. The GSIII could very well suck, but thankfully we have the luxury of being able to choose the phone we want because of how close together their launches were. I could be returning my phone, just to re-purchase it in a month, but I feel I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If the GSIII is a rockstar then I'm going to be kicking myself for not getting it instead.
Anyway, does anyone else feel as though they jumped the gun, and will be trying out the GSIII?
I feel this way only a little bit.. luckily best buy has a 30 day exchange. I am going to try both of them. This is a pretty solid phone, but I can not stand the browser always flashing white while scrolling, and the reception issues. I know both probably can get updated to work fine, but it is bothering me. I am going to test out the GSIII and see how the radios perform. If they are not up to speed I will probably stick with this phone and hope the updates come soon enough.

We are still on a stock ROM since it was released a couple weeks ago. I would imagine some of the issues you describe will be ironed out in upcoming ROM updates from Sprint and HTC. You also forgot other pros about this device like very good battery life, Beats by Dr. Dre, outstanding camera. No I didn't jump the gun. The GS3 will not be perfect at release also. Every device has bugs that need fixing.
If you think the camera isn't that great, take a look at one of the pictures I posted a while back here in the General forum.

Not at all. I don't use Samsung on principle, they are in bed ith Apple and playing both sides of the market. I have used the SGS phones and they're not better or worse, just different - depending on what you value in a phone. I also don't experience any of the cons you are complaining about, but everybody has different expectations and experiences.
Why do so many people start threads asking for others to take their side in decisions like this? If you don't like the phone, just return it and keep looking until you find something you do like. You don't need 1000 signatures on your petition to return the phone. It's your preference, do what works for you.
Just know that you'll be able to find something wrong with the SGS3 as well if you're honest with yourself.

Yea these people are getting ridiculous.. You don't like the camera app? What's not to like? I your reaching for that.. Go into the gs3 forums and you will quickly find out that people are having problems with them as well.. Not a phone problem as much as being an early adopter problem.. Can't believe u don't like the camera.. Some people will never be happy.. I'll end with this.. A software update will fix all these issues ppl have..multi tasking being my main one.. But a software update won't give uba metal unibody, kickstand and just an overall better built phone.. Same s4 chip in ppl.. I swear ppl are adhd nowadays
Nah. I don't have any performance issues and the only camera issue I have is that the hardware shutter button is half useless (only holds the focus, does not refocus when half pressed)
Also Deck is working on CM9 for the evo lte so that is a huge pro right there.
The battery life is amazing.

I didn't feel like this until i found out about the 2gb ram in the gs3. I like everything about the phone though, just wish it had 2gb. I wanted the best phone spec wise fir longer than a couple weeks.
I understand the agitation since every time I refresh xda I see another one of these posts.. I guess it's just hard for me to imagine wanting a Samsung.. I'm hard core HTC.. And with or previous devices I was willing to concede that maybe Samsung were better in some areas.. IE the gs2 vs my evo 3d.. The gs2 may have been better I guess to some or most of but I wouldn't have it.. I loved my 3d despite all the naysayers.. Anywho I really believe that with the evo LTE that HTC is back on top.. Esp hardware wise.. I dunno how someone could even argue that the gs3 is better in that regard.. Esp. With the same soc...so the software bugs will get worked out.. Just hold out... It's ok to enjoy your phone and focus on what it does well instead
I don't think I jumped the gun, just wish I had a magical gun to make all the Samsung trolls disappear

At first glance I fell in love with this device. Its sleek, has an amazing screen, beautiful design and very fast. Also has a okay camera (prefer my s3 way more). So whats not to love? Well after 9 days and mixing it up between devices my G now has a dead pixel, shuts off and is sluggish. I have no idea why because the phone has never been dropped or exposed to any kid of water. So needless to say I called AT&T and because I am within my 14 day period they are exchanging it even for a New Titanium Galaxy Note 2. Really wish it worked out, loved the phone. So you can catch me me back in the sammy forums for now, still might get another OG.

In most cases the issues of one does not represent the issues of many. Nevertheless, enjoy your Note II.
Cool story bro. Thanks for letting us know. Have a nice day.
No matter how good of quality a device is known for... there is always a bad batch that comes off the assembly line.
This applies to cars, phones, electronics, any consumer product...
I think that in this case, you are one of the unlucky few who got on one from the crap stack.

BUT when I called AT&T and they offered a new Titanium Note 2 as the replacement why would I decline it. Especially if it dsent cost me anything. Definitely not "jeleous" about your English vocabulary.
Have fun in the Samsung forums with your ohsoridiculous amount of money. Hope you find less things to complain about with the Note 2 instead of making pointless posts on their subforum as well.
So they replaced a $100 contract phone with a $300 contract phone? Also, not jealous about the devices you have and have had as well as on your nuts about it, as it was a simple statement, that was a nervous assumption on your own, because you're in a corner defending yourself. I'm having fun feeding you as well, due to you being an obvious troll since you've provided nothing informative by making this topic.

Only plus side is that it will have much more development support.

I just sold it, that's it I got tired of waiting for the devs's this phone is top, but will never get support because of LG stupid way of handling advertisements.
They make the phone and its like they don't want to sell it. Stupid LG will never buy form them.
