[Q] Small ICS data partition question. - HTC Amaze 4G

I have a quick question. If i backup my Data partition with 4EXT before S-OFF and obtaining ICS, will i be able to reflash it and have all my apps and app data on the new ROM? I read that a few people tried it with success, but wanted to make sure, because redownloading all these apps and losing their data would SUCK. Thanks, guys!

no, use titanium backup for app and data backup...

Cool, thanks for the reply.

Most likely a stupid question.

If I backup only my data through Amon Ra, then flash a new Rom (after wiping everything) can I restore my data over the rom?
I've never tried anything like that (due to previously using CWR)
Thanks
not sure but the easy way i know how to do this is use titanium backup to back up everything and when u restore just restore the data

That sucks.
Thanks anyways
But don't restore data from one ROM to a different ROM. That can mess things up.

How to update from omega 27v to 28v without losing games data?

Hello guys, is that possible? Everytime I do a backup restore with titanium backup full version, it never restores the game packages, which makes me a bit reluctant in doing a full wipe before flashing a new Ron
Only wipe cache, and dalvik then just flash....any options to format data....decline

Open titanium, press menu choose backup data to xml.
For TW, backup the TW apps and restore only data. Widgets cannot be restored though, only folders.

[Q] backing up with twrp saves app and app data?

ok here is my situation. im stuck with hughesnet and have a data plan of 10gb. i want to change my rom and want to backup all my apps and app data (ABOUT 6 GB) so i wont have to download anything once i get a new rom installed. if i backup the data option in twrp recovery will that keep my app apk's and their data? and once i change my rom and restore the data backup, will that mess up the rom?
Or should i use something else like titanium backup?
doing either way will work. The only thing you will really run into is if going from one rom to a diffreent rom and ty to replace the system apps.
It backups the whole system and data partition into separate files ...so as long as you are moving from same rom type to another like sense to sense or aosp to aosp ... Just flash new rom then restore only the data partition and you are good to go

Titanium backup batch user data question

Hi,
I see in titanium backup you can select a batch backup or restore of user apps.
Can you restore using batch just user data obviously I do not want to do system data since that can cause problems.
Thanks,
Bryan
I know you select and restore user apps + data in batch and ignore system apps while restore.
Just user data not sure.
Pressing THANKS easier than typing.

True..
When I install a rom upon reboot it will automatically install apps from market which is ok so then instead of going to each app and restoring data only would be nice to batch it.
Thanks,
Bryan
The general consensus is that restoring data can introduce problems but there are people who do it.
Personally, if I can keep data in Google I have it in Google. Otherwise I try to pick apps that have their own backup/sync routine. Rather than doing a wholesale restore of data, I'd be selective and restore data where I really need to. If you have problems you can uninstall the app and then reinstall the app asking from TiBu without data, or just install a new copy from the store.
And of course have a nandroid backup.

Hi,
I always thought the problem was restoring system data but not user data? I am only looking to batch install user data picking the apps I want and having it saved for future batch restores.
Thanks,
Bryan
I have one suggestion /data/data is where user data is being stored. You can multi select those directories using es file explorer compress as single zip file and restore it back by extracting at /data/data
I tested with an app manually it worked. Even permissions were retained.

Switching ROMS and keeping app data

Now I know this is a boob question but I've read so many conflicting answers.
If I switch roms and want to keep all data, eg game saves, app data, WiFi settings, launcher settings etc, what is the best practice to do so?
In the past I've used ROM toolbox pro to backup apps and then restore in new ROM?
But I've read that this isn't recommended?
What is recommended? Backup via recovery?
If so how is it done?
Assuming I'm switching ROMS completely? Eg CM11 to cloudy?

Where did your read that? Its not a good idea to restore system settings but restoring user apps and their data is perfectly fine. If by WiFi settings you mean access point passwords then that should be fine too.
If your individual apps have a built in backup function I would also use that to backup your data just in case.

Ah ok. Thanks.
Read it in a few threads.
So I'll just use ROM toolbox pro then.
So it can't be done via twrp backup of 'system'

A nandroid backup (backing up via recovery) is a backup of your entire system, not only apps but also your ROM--so basically if you restore a nandroid backup you're phone will be entirely restored to the way it ways when you did the backup.

Yes I know.
Just wondered if it was possible to back up only app data.

I don't think you can do a backup of just your app data in recovery.
If you wanted to restore your user apps & data it's the data partition not system you would need to restore but the data partition is where recovery backs up to. How can recovery write to/read the very same partition that it's simultaneously backing up/restoring.
