This time I have really f***ed up guys. I really think this time I have actually bricked my Thunderbolt. I was on Bamf Remix 1.63 I believe and everything was running great. I was obviously rooted also. I was bored and decided to flash Protekks Battery Sipper Kernel. Right after I flashed it, the phone would not boot. I pulled the battery and booted up again and it got stuck in a boot loop. So after a few tries I finally got it to boot into the bootloader. I got into recovery and tried to flash a backup and it rebooted in the middle of restoring it. I tried that a few more times. I then let the battery die. Then I charged it up a lot and tried to power it on and got nothing. The screen will not even turn on. When plugged into my computer it sometimes vibrates and my computer detects it and then my computer makes the sound like it was disconnected. I think it is still stuck in the boot loop with the screen off though. BTW the charging light does light up when plugged in. I tried the stock and extended battery to make sure it was not a battery problem. I finally called up Verizon and after I told them it would not turn on he said he is shipping me a free replacement. I told them that after a OTA update the phone would not boot. He warned me that if there is any evidence that the phone was rooted or hacked, I would be charged the retail price for the phone. That is really the only thing I am scared of. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Sorry for the long post, I wanted to get in all the details that I could.
Thanks
Adam

Wtf? This isn't Samsung. OP do you bootloop in bootloader? I recommend you go to the irc and give them any info you can.. you will probably end up flashing a stock ruu through the bootloader but first go to irc.

Thanks for the quick reply! How would I get into download mode. And I was on froyo before.. Shouldn't I download a froyo based rom?
Yeah I did not think we have Odin for HTC phones, and I already have the stock zip file on my MicroSD card but my screen will not turn on at all. I can not get into anything. Any advice?
Talk to jcase. Hopefully you have some adb knowledge.

OK thanks for the replies. Do you think the Verizon warranty center people will actually go to the trouble of getting it to work and then charge me full retail for a new one if they see it is rooted. I already have the stock zip on the SD card so when it does boot up, it will return everything to stock. I have read online that some people have been charged retail because there phones have been rooted but most of them have gotten away with with it..

I think you're almost certainly fine. It's a lot of work and time for big red over one phone. Plus, your etf is less expensive than a replacement device

thanks for the response man. etf= early termination fee? I might not have said in my original post but they are sending me a free replacement device. The rep on the phone specifically said that if they find my phone to be rooted or hacked, that I will be charged around 629$ for the refurb replacement. I really cannot afford that (
Call back and tell em you accidentally dropped it out of moving vehicle and that it was run over 5 times...and that it was raining outside. Then pay your deductible.

I decided that if I ever bricked, that I'd post on here asking what horrible things I should do previous to sending it in to get a replacement. Then post pics. XD

I got out of a bootloop on my friend's Insipre 4G (which is very similar to the TB) by mounting the microSD on my computer, and then putting a stock ROM on it. I had to rename the stock ROM PG98IMG (PG05IMG on Thunderbolt), and flash it through the bootloader, but it did work.
Thanks for the post man but the Thunderbolt does not show any signs of life at all besides the flashing orange LED at the top blinking and the computer detecting it on and off every 5 minutes. The stock zip is already on the SD card so when it finally boots up it will flash and hopefully Verizon won't charge me out the @ss for a replacement.

how long have you had your phone and what hardware revision was it? did you try to run the RUU yet?
i think some people just got a batch of faulty phones because this doesn't seem to affect many.
I highly doubt verizon is going to receive your broken phone and boot it up and it will magically work. The only way it will auto-update is if they boot it into HBOOT. If they somehow just power it on it won't automatically apply anything. Keep that in mind. But I really wouldn't worry too much about it. If they charge you call them and tell them wtf I wasn't rooted. I don't even know what that means lol.
I have had the phone since the very first days it was released. Another slight annoying thing I have had happening prior is the glue on the screen has not been holding it down very well and and I can easily get a nail under it. And it wont let me do anything. I have a Droid X as a backup for now but I miss my beast

that's what im starting to think as htc has since released a revision 2 thunderbolt. i know as i just bought mine a few weeks ago. im wondering if the faulty phones were version 1 phones and have since been fixed. i also do not experience the high battery drain most of you guys do either.
so I was trying to update the RUU when i did that i put a coustom rom too .. my htc booted up perfectly but ever time i touch an app it would just start shut down the phone when i was try to fix problem by just Using the new RUU i couldnt get in to hboot or turn on my phone
OK first your phone is not a brick. A brick is just that, a brick. It doesn't turn on at all.
Next did you allow the RUU to run fully? Meaning did you allow it to update the hboot, reboot and then finish the update?

Sounds like it only ran the first set of updates. Run the RUU again and it will update everything else.
it wont turn on i check the battery with my dad's htc rezound i was trying to get back to hboot but phone wont turn on any help pls
Plug your phone in and remove the battery. Then boot into hboot.

Continue to hold volume down until it hits the boot screen. You shouldn't have to hold it that long, but it won't hurt.

I was just about to say that.
not bricked
It doesn't sound like you are bricked, just that the RUU didn't fully take. First, take your removable SD card and connect it to your computer. If you don't have a microSD card reader on your computer, hit radio-shack or something and get a usb microSD card adapter, costs like $10 and is a life saver. Now backup everything on your SD card and then wipe the card clean and just put the RUU on, renamed to PH98IMG.zip. Make sure that you didn't make it PH98IMG.zip.zip or it won't work. Next put the SD card back into the phone, hopefully you still have it locked, and when you boot it, it should update properly. Remember that it has to flash twice, the first time it like only updates the bootloader and radios or something, the second time (after it reboots) it will completely flash the rest of the RUU.
I hope that helps.
Oh and one more important thing, after you flash the RUU and you are sure it is working properly, delete the PH98IMG.zip from your external SD card. You really don't want it there after the phone has flashed and everything is working properly.

Take the battery out and unplug it from the computer. Let it sit for a few minutes and chill out.
Then, put the battery back in and press volume down and power and keep holding until you see the screen turn on. Then you should be in hboot.
I had the SAME problem. I tried loading a rom that required the new RUU when I was on the outdated one. I simply downloaded the new RUU, renamed it, and went into HBOOT. I noticed that you need to run it 2 times, oddly enough. After that, I was golden.

im not trying to hijack your thread just looking for help alright here is where i start. I'm running the new leak, just flashed BAMF 2.0 a day or 2 ago. i have been updating roms regularly without a problem. i tried to flash Sebastian 1782 OC kernel. When i did i got a main ver error. I went into Sebastian thread and was reading where other people had problems with the main ver error and i did what was said to do to fix it. They said to open the android text file in the kernel and change the main ver to the same this i was running and to change the hboot to what i was running. So i did that. flashed into recovery and flashed the kernel. It flashes and then heres where i get a problem. It says reboot to bootloader to complete. The phone shuts down and thats it. It wont turn on. It wont do anything. i have pulled the battery and left it out for a few minutes and put it back in but nothing. I tried to charge it and the amber led wont even light up. What went wrong? I need help. This absolutely blows
You do no have it plugged in right the only time i had this problem when it was
My Thunderbolt has just decided to completely crash at once and I was wondering if anyone here knew of any possible solution.
The charging port on my phone has broken so I cannot charge it or connect it to my computer. I took it in to Verizon to get it replaced and was told to put the factory rom back before they would replace it.
I didn't think that would be a problem until about 20 minutes later when my phone stopped reading my memory card. I have tried several different memory cards so I am sure it is my phone broken, not the card.
While at the Verizon store, the CS rep gave me another Thunderbolt to use to charge my battery with until I could get a replacement (I found this very strange) so I am able to at least charge my phone for now.
any ideas here?
Yea don't ever take a phone into a Verizon store and expect to get any real help. You're better off calling it in over the phone and letting them figure it out later than dealing with the retards at the stores. They know nothing most of the time and are a huge hassle.

Honestly, in my opinion, the best thing you can do is stick the memory card in a computer by putting it in an adapter or SD slot if your computer has one and then reformat it to FAT32. If your computer reads it, save your pics and videos first to the computer so that you'll have them. I had this problem before and it just happened in my back pocket. I'll never know what happened. Anyways... since you're rooted and everything is already installed to your phone, it won't hurt your phone at all by reformating the SD entirely via computer. Remember, if the computer will read it, its not a memory card issue... normally its a format issue and the phone reading it.
Once your SD is newly formatted, put it back in and immediately backup your ROM just in case.
You shouldn't have any further issues with it.
Proceed with the unrooting process. All those files that existed would pretty much needed to have been deleted anyways.

Roflmao. Still though. It is easier to deal with customer service when you return a rooted device because they don't get to see until after you get the new device so you have a chance to unroot before they know you're rooted.

First off, this happened when I got the phone when it was fully stock.
Now it's rooted, unlocked bootloader, s-off running carbon aosp.
Randomly my phone will shut down/off and will NOT power back on until I plug it into a charger (house charger, car charger sometimes works).
I;ve tried getting into recovery when it does this and it does nothing at all.
It's a PITA like today I was riding my mountain bike on trails miles away from my car and I was supposed to give my buddy a ride to work and my chain decided to snap (and of course I forgot my multi tool in my garage) so I had to walk back and had no way to call him and let him know.
I've read it's happened to other people and they had their phones replaced and it still happened, is this that common? what can it be
There is some instability with the new 3.4 kernel on certain AOSP ROM's from what I've read (not sure if Carbon is one of them). First thing I would do would be to flash a stable Sense ROM and see if the problem persists. If so, you may have a hardware issue. At that point you can take it in to Sprint and let them look at it. If you're concerned about the phone being rooted & S-off you can run Viperboy's RUU tool, which will restore your phone to totally stock condition.

Do you think it could be a SD card issue? My card is a few years old. I took my catf out and put it in I guess only half way and the phone shut off and did the same thing. I put it back in and un mounted it and so far its fine. I formatted it before switching from my epic 4g touch.

Similar problem with random reboots
I was on vacation and in the middle of the trip my phone just started going insane by rebooting on its own. Most of the time it would only get half way though the boot screen then shut off again. It varied how far through the bootscreen it would last then shut off. Occasionally the phone actually made it through the entire boot process, once i was at my home screen it would pop up the power menu and ask if i wanted to power off, reboot, or airplane mode. Then the three hard buttons at the bottom of the phone would flash and then it would shut off. This happened all through vacation. Also, the phone did not always recognize a charge, however, sometimes it did. Once I got home the problem stopped and the phone is not having the random reboots. I went to Gulf Shores, Alabama if your curious..
However now my sd card will not mount to internal storage and I cannot take pictures, use spotify, watch videos i have saved, etc. When I try to pull up these apps, the phone says no external storage available. The thing is, if I go to file manager, I can see the sd card and all of the files, its just when i try to open them from file manager, it loads the gallery app and then it tells me no external storage.
When I go to setting>storage, the option to mount sd card in the sd card spot works. But when I try to mount sd to the internal storage, it does not work. Im seriously confused as I did not download any new apps, or download anything at least within a week prior to going on vacation.
Im running..
CM10
S-On
Hboot 1.15.000
OpenDSP-v25.1.0.32.0405
eMMC-boot
If Im in the fastboot menu, and I click bootloader, it says
SD checking..
Loading [PJ75DIAG.zip]
No Image!
I have done a factory reset and the problem still persists.
Any help would be great.

thanks for response, sorry for being late to the party.
I cannot mount as usb. the loading circle just spins. when i try to do it in TWRP, it wont let me either.
also when i go to wipe cache or whatever else, it said failed to mount sd card in the console log and it wont let me wipe anything.
when i go to storage in settings, the problem seems like it is with internal storage. under internal storage, it says "mount sd card", when i do this, i get a notification saying preparing sd card but then it goes away after about 2 seconds. then the internal storage area says "mount sd card" again.
I am willing to wipe everything because I got all my photos off the sd card so im okay with wiping it all and starting over. i already did a factory reset but it didnt help. unfortunately i cant wipe cache and other things so i dont know what to do. thanks for your help!

Hey all.
I'm trying to figure out if anyone else has had any issues with their phone not booting after swapping batteries? Both my girlfriend and I had a similar issue within the last 24 hours where our phones would not immediately boot after we swapped out our batteries with ones we got from the 200GB promo.
Removing the SD Card or SIM card actually did get it to boot once (for each of us) but after a reboot to put the missing card back in it would just get stuck at the initial screen. However, once we replaced the original battery then there was no issue and the phone booted like normal.
Both phones are rooted and have TWRP 2.8.7.1 on them. Any help or extra information would be appreciated!
I swap mine all the time and haven't had that issue yet.

Sorry for the delay. And no, I do not have it encrypted. I have noticed that this issue also exists on the G3 and G4 so I have a few good ideas as to why it might happen. But no real way to to prove it. I honestly think it is a problem that stems back from the G2 before they gave the phone a removable battery.

Well here's the odd thing about it tho; it didn't start happening right away. It was about 2-3 days after I had gotten the 200GB SD Card and battery that it started doing it.
And this morning I looked at my phone and the charger wasn't plugged all the way in so it was completely dead. After letting it charge for 15-20 minutes I tried powering it on and it wouldn't boot as I had feared would happen. But!! After I removed the SD Card it booted right away like normal. So confused and frustrated.

Just received my card as well and it booted right up after inserting it. I'll let it go through the weekend to see if anything happens.
I've had mine for a few weeks now, and never had this issue. The free battery is actually the one in my phone and I am very rooted. The 200GB is in my Tab S 10.5, though, and my 128GB is in my V10.
