I'm not sure if this has been discussed or not, but is it possible? I've got an older model Xbox 360 without a wifi adapter, and no internet at home, so could the Xbox be tricked into tethering thinking its a wiring adapter? Maybe a longshot, but just wondering if it's possible

So you want to tether your android phone to your xbox and use 3G? Just to let you know internet over a cell phone can have quite a bit of latency due to longer than normal ping times. This will make online games lag even if the speed of the connection is adequate.
Without wifi your xbox only has an ethernet jack to connect to the internet, I'm not sure how you plan to connect a phone to it. The wifi adapter Microsoft sells is USB, but chances are the console only recognizes its specific hardware ID and denies all other wifi adapters since you cannot use other adapters with it.
Even if you got something working, like I said internet over a cell phone is not good for gaming.
Ill just tether to my laptop to my phone, then it to my Xbox.
I just thought that the less steps the better. -.-

Actually, my 3g ping times beat my DSL.

Go buy a net gear wifi adaptor. Much cheaper than a Microsoft one. Works good for my 360.
I might upgrase to a 4gb console (new one). Or just deal woth it till 2015/16 and get ps4

Ok here is a question my brother asked me so here it is " can you tether a ps2 and a nintendo ds " so can you tether them
Droid Eris
Plainjane1 with ota 2.1
and evil Eris 2.0.1
Tether them to the Eris?
You can wireless tether the Nintendo DS if you are a rooted user. You cannot tether to the PS2 unless there is a wireless adaptor for the PS2 that I don't know about.
Oh god I never even thought about tethering a DS... yesssssssssssssssssssss
no.
the ds (either one of the 3 iterations) do NOT support ad-hoc networking.
the ps2 does. but you'll need to hook it up a certain way.
first you need a laptop (or any computer, laptops just make it all portable) and a "CAT 5E Crossover Cable" radioshack has them,... I have not had much luck looking anywhere else. if I remember it was like 13 bucks for a 9 footer or something)
1. either plug your phone into your pc for wired tethering, or just use wifi tethering
2. make sure you have a solid connection.
3. plug the crossover cable into your pc's ethernet port and then into your PS2's
4. go into network/connection settings, and go to change adapter settings
5. bridge your phone's connection to your LAN port.
you now have internet on your PS2
I used to do this when I didnt have a long enough cable for the 360 that was in the other room. just plug in my laptop, get it on wifi, and bridge. no need to buy that ridiculously priced add-on.
now, if you have an extra router around, you MIGHT MIGHT MIGHT be able to actually plug that crossover cable from your computer into the router as if it were any other internet connection, then just proceed to set up the router as usual. you might be able to put out a wifi connection for the DS. it shouldn't be an ad-hoc network that way, so the DS MIGHT recognize it. I have never tried it myself.
my biggest bum about it all is that I hae a zune pass, the unlimited music for a monthly fee deal? I was so hoping i could just turn on wifi tethering and hook up my zune with some nonstop internet downloading. sadly, it was never meant to be.
Well no real need for a crossover cable just bridge and set it to auto ip and dns xp and higher will split the up for you and share the wifi. I do this for Skype and netflixs on my ps3.also works on 360. Hope this helped a bit...poor geeks wifi trick when on the road or at home lol

Is there a way to tether the Thunderbolt with the MBR1200 or any type of Cradlepoint router? I saw on Cradlepoint's forums the Incredible and Blackberries were not officially supported but would work and that almost all Android devices should work as well.
Why not root and use a wireless tether app? That way you don't need a router
I am rooted and have the wireless tether app. I was hoping to be able to use my TB to connect my xbox to live without having to use internet connection sharing on my pc.
Another option would be to get a WiFi antenna for your xbox.

Trying to hook up to evo here as well.
I know it's ndis device just like the mogul and ps2 were. I don't know why they are able to but the evo and the sister models aren't working on it. Specially since evo has been out a year. if they need a ata diagnostic to see the activation lines I'd be more then willling to do one and copy the info to them.
HTC Thunderbolt w/ Cradlepoint MBR1200
I own a Cradlepoint MBR 1200 and was thinking about purchasing an HTC Thunderbolt to connect to this router so I could have unlimited 4G data. Is it possible to do this. I have not been able to get a clear answer.
I don't have 4G, but I will try to hook my T-bolt up to my MBR1000 later today and let you know what happens.
Subscribed. I have one of these at work that I have been working with. When connected to USB it cannot obtain an connection. It's like you need to edit modem settings or something. Of course if you back fed it into a PC in the WAN port you might be able to set up an outgoing connection.

I used Internet connection sharing on a pc and plugged the Ethernet cable into the wan port and it worked that way. I also bought a cheap wireless bridge and connected my Thunderbolt to it using the rooted wireless tether app so that I wouldn't have to have a computer always on to use the Thunderbolt's connection. It does seem that the problem with connecting it does have to do with the MBR not recognizing it but the MBR doesn't seem to recognize it is even plugged in, I read on Cradlepoint's site how to connect a Incredible to the router, but the Thunderbolt does not have the same connection choice as the Incredible does. If someone could figure out the difference between the connection types it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make a app for this http://blog.cradlepoint.com/an-android-powered-cradlepoint-router.
I used the built-in wired tethering and it didn't work...yet...
When i get some more free time I'll try something like Easy Tether.
I'll see if I can find anything about modem settings as well...
Okay, so basically I have a PC running Windows XP, which is connected to the internet using a wired cable modem. I then have a laptop, which I want to use to access the internet, but no wireless router.
Then I realised that my G1 (running Froyo) has WiFi, and I have the USB cable for it. So, I ask you guys: is there any way of setting up my G1 to use the connection from the desktop PC via USB, and then broadcast it as a WiFi network?
This is only intended to be a temporary solution (a few days) so I'm not going to go out and buy a wireless router or anything.

I would assume it's possible, since the g1 can wifi tether. If the g1 has reception, why not just do that?

I forgot to mention - the G1 has reception, varying between 3G and HSDPA, but I have to pay extra to get data, and it's £1 per day for just 50MB. I tethered it to the laptop and the 50MB was gone within a couple of hours, without even doing any downloading.
Whereas the desktop is connected to an uncapped 10Mb/s connection.
Thanks for the reply though, and perhaps someone else knows how to tackle this specific problem. Googling only seems to return results regarding sharing your phone's data connection over WiFi, which isn't much use for me.

I am rooted, and I can tether for free. The issue is, I don't have an unlimited data plan, so I need to either top up £10 to get 100MB for a month, or pay £1 out of my credit to get 50MB to be used in a day. Both of those disappear in the blink of an eye when I tether, even without doing any downloading. What I want to do is this:
Hook up my phone to the desktop using USB
Somehow get the wired connection from the PC to the phone, and broadcast that connection as a WiFi signal, so the laptop can connect to it
Security (WPA) would be great but as it seems like this is near impossible to do anyway, I'll happily use a method that doesn't let me secure the network

ok i no you can use wifi tether to tether your 3g/4g, but is there anyway to use wifi and tether your wifi through your house on a android phone. I have a wireless router at my house, but it does not reach all the way acrossed the house. is it possible to use an old android phone to tether my wifi singal further through my house? or can it only be done on my rezound with by 3g/4g signal?
Actually, this is a good question. What you're really asking is, can you use your phone as a wireless access point for your home network. I don't have an answer (at least, not one from 5 minutes of Googling) but I'm interested to know.

unfortunately you cannot do this, as the phone's wifi connection can only be used either for connecting to your network, or tethering to another device, not both. you can however buy a "wifi repeater" to extend the range of your wireless router.
Repeater or bridge plus access point

well thanks for reply guys was really hoping it could work i got 2 extra android phones sitting around.
In theory, it is possible. You can use a tethering program to a PC via USB and then use the PC to "share" or "bridge" the connection to a WAP. I may try that when I get time, I just picked up a new Alcatel Omnistack switch I want to test out.
There is a way of doing this... but it may or may not help you out. Allow me to explain:
I used to live in a house where I kept a basic PC tower in the living room for playing movies. It did not have a wifi card. I was able to use my Droid 1 to tether this living room PC to my home AP.
Now, you're problem is that the wifi isn't even reaching the PC you want to get online. If you have a Droid 1 and it can get on to the AP without a terrible drop in throughput, this will work for you. If not, then it won't.
Here's what to do if you have a Droid 1 that can get on your home AP where the PC can't:
Install CM7 on the Droid 1
Connect to the AP
Connect the Droid 1 to the PC via the USB cable
Enable USB / Wired tethering
Done
It can be a little temperamental, but it works.
This does not address his question. Wired tethering the wifi does work, as you pointed out, but this will not help him extend the range of the network. If the phone is wired to a computer that is too far away to reach the wireless network, the phone is too far away as well.

He could be a whole usb wire closer XD ... Why not just wired tether with pdanet or foxfi? Don't want the data charges, is that it? ... im lucky to be on the real unlimited train
fqrouter2 is the solution
fqrouter2 is an excellent WiFi repeater for rooted Android devices (available free in Google Play Store)
Hello; I've got a Series 6500 Samsung Smart TV, and I generally use my Note 3 for internet at my house, (as do my wife and daughter with their phones). we have a legacy plan, which has unlimited data, so that's not an issue. We live in the Mtns of Puerto Rico, and not even DSL works out here. I would like to be able to use my easy tether to connect my Smart TV, to my phone, using a program like Easy Tether... it has served me well, for the computer; I'd just like to use the Smart TV, to its' potential.
Any networking gurus who can figure this out, would have my gratitude! I've been searching what seems to be "everywhere!", and I am sorry if this is not the correct forum.
(sent from my PC, via Easy Tether!)
Is your note 3 rooted? If so I'd switch to using a WiFi tether app of some sort. That would simplify a lot for you. As for using an app like easy tether that uses a direct connection on your TV, depends on the USB capabilities of your TV. I doubt your TV has the necessary software and/driver support to handle it. The USB on the TV isn't like USB on the computer. Most TV's have a specific type/model of network USB adaptor they support. Unlike computers that are capable of using any.
