Verizon is pushing the GB 605.6 firmware like nobodys business ... I would say 3 times a day at least. Of course, it fails each time since I am not stock recovery (or stock ROM), but I wind up sitting in Recovery constantly. <sigh>
UPDATE: I renamed otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak and Verizon still tried to push this morning. Any other suggestions are welcome.

If you're not on stock ROM or recovery, why are you receiving update notifications? Which ROM is it? There is a cert file you can delete/rename that will prevent future notifications.
Footer
Per my footer, Nils BusinessGingerSense.
Just tried accepting it to let it fail; let's see what happens this time.
Little bugger is sitting in /cache/fumo as OTAPkg.zip
Check for this file
Code:
/etc/security/otacerts.zip
and rename to
Code:
otacerts.zip.bak
On stock ROMs this will prevent update checks, so should work on yours too. Not sure why Nils left that in there.
is this ics?
edit: nevermind.
Renamed
Thanks for the rename tip; I have renamed. Let's see if that solved it.
I'm wondering (hoping) that it's an attempt to get everybody up to date with the current firmware before the ICS push.

Up to date with the last OTA which was GB? The leak was never official or pushed by VZW so I kind of doubt they are doing anything related to that.
Isn't 605.6 the original firmware that came on the phone?
I can't remember off the top of my head which apk's are related to the OTA function, but I deleted them and never get the notifications.
I believe one of the main ones even has ota in the filename.

If your rooted, just use something like es file explorer or root browser. Long press on the file and change the permissions to allow read and write. long press again and hit rename
I used HTC Rezound All-In-One Toolkit V2.0 to root and I'm on AmonRa recovery. DO I need to revert back to stock recovery before OTA or can I keep it unlocked and on my current recovery?

I'm not sure what you are asking, but the file needs to be named PG05IMG.zip not PC that might be your problem.

That's what I meant and I have the. Zip
It will pick the file up but no flash of the file
So you are saying you are going to the bootloader and it IS finding the file and IS requesting you to hit volume up? That is what is supposed to happen.

I've never had it ask me and I've been rooted since the week the phone came out back in March. I assume you must have done something like go to "check for updates" at one time to trigger that.
Update to a better ROM that doesn't allow it to check for OTA updates!

Very strange! Most of the time a rooted phone will not check for updates.

I rooted my phone back then also.
I'm not sure if it is the 7/8/11 update as it is the 73mb update. It started popping up Sunday or Monday and keeps asking me to update every morning. I did not press check for update.
To turn OFF future OTA updates, there is a file in the /system/etc/security folder. The file is named "otacerts.zip". Rename it "otacerts.zip.bak", or whatever you want. That will prevent future updates.

Do you have Root Explorer installed? It should let you rename a file once you temporarily set the filesystem to r/w.

You need to have root explorer or a similar program to edit, then make sure you enable R/W in order to edit it because by default that's turned off since it's a core system file.

I was wondering the same thing. Rooted TB with stock rom. I kept getting OTA update notifications, and got tired of hitting "reject" every few hours... Came in here, poked around, found this thread, and renamed \system\etc\security\otacerts.zip.
After a reboot, i went in "settings:sofware update" and hit "check new"... It found no new updates. Should be good now, I think. Will post again if it shows up again. Thanks guys.

As far as erasing the PDS partition goes, formatting the internal sd through CWM caused it for me.

I've SBF'ed to 198_7 and 198_6, but I never checked with root browser to see if the pds partition is empty but I STILL could not update profile/prl, and it's 100% that it gets stuck on "Contacting Network" so i have to use the No BP-Airplane mode workaround. I have flashed ROM's right after the SBF's, for instance, ROCKO/Imperium show empty PDS partitions, after a SBF to 198_7

Hmm, would Sprint replace my phone for cheap, off insurance, and if so, how would I go about asking them to replace it? An erased PDS partition is kind of suspicious..
What other issues could an erased PDS partition cause, besides not being able to contact network for updates.

EDIT - Try
1) Create a folder in PDS named "omadm"

3) Download attached zip and place contents from zip into "omadm"
4) All files inside "omadm" should be set to rw-----

I thought about that except one of the files had an md5 sum that generated so i was unsure if it would work.
Hey, everyone. I know this is probably the last thing you want to read, but I could really use some prompt help.
I tried the method posted in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686551
I got to step 3, but it didn't let me choose recovery. It just started installing the update. However, when it rebooted, it never got past the white HTC boot screen. I pulled the battery, pulled the MicroSD card, went back into the bootloader and tried running Factory Reset. Same result - stuck at white HTC boot screen.
Some more information:
1. Device is completely stock - no customer bootloader, stock Gingerbread OS. (2.3.4. That's why I wanted to try this in the first place. According to HTC, my IMEI number block hasn't been updated for ICS, yet.)
2. I renamed the file "update" as per the thread.
I'm hoping that the devs and contributors here will have mercy on a lowly noob who's having problems. I'm hoping to either return to stock and wait for the ICS update, or get to the point where I can install a custom ROM found here. (I was thinking SpeedROM). But, as my device has Gingerbread (or, potentially nothing at this point), I'm not sure where to go from here.
Thanks so much for any suggestions. You guys are the best, and I love this site.
Not sure if you've tried this yet, just name your file as PH85IMG.zip and place it on your microSD. Boot into bootloader and let it run the update. If this is what you did, then I have no clue what happened.
Just out of curiosity, why didn't you get the official OTA the official way if you're completely stock?
PS - This question belongs in the Q&A subforum. Remember that next time if you don't want to get flamed =)

The official update just never showed up. I literally lost count of the number of times I went into Settings > About phone > HTC software updates > Check now.
I've been on probably 4 chats and 4-5 calls between T-Mobile customer service and HTC tech support. The general consensus is that my phone's IMEI number is in a block that hasn't been authorized for the ICS update, yet. But, I really wanted to upgrade, and I think it's ridiculous that it's been 2 months since the update and my phone can't.
Ok, so I'm first going to apologize, since I've heard that double-posting is very much not accepted by forum communities.
I've tried several times to fix this. I renamed the file as was suggested, and went back into the bootloader. It (apparently) scans the MicroSD card for files, and says "Loading...[PH85IMG.zip]" (It attempts to load PH85DIAG.zip, says no image, and PH85IMG.nbh, and again says no image)
After this, it says "Checking..[PH85IMG.zip]" (That is the only thing it says)
Then, I get the options:
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
If I go into FASTBOOT, it doesn't really help - just reboots either the bootloader (repeating this process, obviously) or the phone, which goes back to the white HTC boot screen it's hanging on.
If I go into RECOVERY, there's not option to install the .zip like the other page suggests, but if I try "Install update from SD card" it gives me "Illegal operation" and reboots.
If I go to FACTORY RESET, it acts like it's reinstalling, but leads to the same problem.
I'm thinking that I just nuked the phone's internal storage, and completely deleted the original OS. Any ideas on how to resolve that?
Or, if that's not the problem, where should I go from here?
It's funny....I troubleshoot computers for a living....but I'm lost right now on this phone.
Thank you for the continued help, gents! I'd really like to not have to throw away a $350, brand new phone....

Hm....well, it's not the third. I doubt the first, unless the wrong file was linked in the thread I mentioned. I'll try downloading the file again.
So, if this still doesn't work for me, let's attack this from a different angle. Are there any other options? Could I change the bootloader, install the leaked ICS ROM, then install another one after that? Like I said, I had been considering trying out Project Butter Speed ROM. I know that the instructions for all that are in the Amaze Bible thread, but there's such a large volume of data there, it's hard to sift through.
Edit: Re-downloaded the file; no change. Any more suggestions?

I think you need to reconsider the name of your file. If it shows up as PH85IMG.zip, more likely than not, it is actually named PH85IMG.zip.zip
This is due to how Windows reads files. If the file is of a known file type, it will not show up the extension (even though it IS there).
Try renaming it to PH85IMG and then put it in the root directory of the SD card and then boot into bootloader. It *should* read it.

I understand that, but if you read through the Q&A section, you'll know why I imperatively make that statement. Can you link me to which file you're trying to flash? I'm thinking it might be a wrong file you're trying to flash.
When you flash or update via a stock ruu, it may seem stuck but it isn't, first boot always takes time, read through this thread properly when I get home, the guys seems to be here, so I'm not needed anyways.

I am currently on software version 3.09.605.2. Verizon just forced downloaded a new firmware update to me. The question I have is: is it safe for me to apply it. I have the TWRP custom recovery installed and used Sunshine to unlock and S Off my max. Will applying this update hose me over in any way?
Update to my post.
I decided to try the update after talking to the folks in the Sunshine support forum (I installed Sunshine last year to unlock and S off ).
I have TWRP installed as a custom recovery and when the OTA tried to apply, I received the following error:

Processing AOSP recovery commands...
Unable to locate zip file '[email protected]}@yBugwGuAtA'.

I rebooted the phone and everything seems to be working normally, but the OTA obviously did not install. Anyone have a tip as to what I can to to get it to install?

I rebooted the phone and everything seems to be working normally, but the OTA obviously did not install. Anyone have a tip as to what I can to to get it to install?

You'll need to be completely stock in /system and stock recovery.
Ahh ok. that might be more of a pain than it is worth.

I'll flash back to stock and maybe get a more simpler way later this week.
Thanks Flyhalf, I would appreciate that. Also, thanks for sticking around so long on the One Max. It is way cool of you to keep up with this older model phone.

Do you still have the OTApkg.zip? Will be located in /cach/fumo
Any idea if this is Verizon pushing a fix for the stagefright exploit?

Probably getting ready for an LP release.
Oh Yea, probably. Eh not that big a deal for me then. Been running your beta NuSenSeven since you posted it and other than the few bugs I posted I'm happy with it for daily use.

It didn't work after all. Need to find the right one.

My sprint one is annoying me to flash the update. I'm debating on not as I don't have an issue with my one max except a hardware / software bug that plagues all the HTC One Max's on sprint... ( using bluetooth for streaming sounds works fine but if I use it for calls it will freeze my wifi internet connection but using a dinosaur wired headset for calls doesn't kill the wifi on the phone)
I can't remember what to freeze in titanium either to get around the nag screen to update..
Has there been a flashable zip created Yet? I have the update prompt for about two weeks now on Sprint One max

I erased the otapkg.zip in the cache/fumo and renamed otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak in the etc/security
Worked for 3-4 days.
Every few days ill get the pop ups and go back into fumo and erase the otapkg to make the pop up go away.
I don't care so much about apply it, but would like to figure out a way to block the ota pop up
Has anybody made any progress either blocking the update or coming up with an update.zip? I've been on test devices for a few months and am now going back to my personal One max. I turned it on today just to see the dadgum update popping up.
