Want this keyboard for Android - Motorola Photon 4G

@ the 20sec mark take a look at the keyboard sentence prediction. I'm a big fan of Swiftkey but this would sure be an improvement.

That was pretty cool. I wonder why they chose a model to "type" so damn slowly..When the new swype beta came out, the commercial they did was much better in showing how efficient it was...BB should probably have done the same here.

Not really feelin' it. Blackberry is supposed to be professional grade, and any keyboard that tries to think for you is bound to cause problems. Much more so in business. It looks innovative, at least.
Also, wonder how long it will be before somebody does it for Android. It seems to be just like the word prediction in SwiftKey and others, but with the words over letters rather than across the top. It's definitely smart.

Having used Swiftkey on a daily basis with the learning options enabled. It's at the point that most text messages and basic personal and work emails never require a single word to be typed.
I can however see your point. More complex sentence structures tend to fail but in the end overall speed is increased greatly.

Bad ass
I have to say that is pretty cool, I wouldn't mind trying out that keyboard! as long as it doesn't AUTO correct me I'd be ok!

Somebody make this and take my money!

indeed enjoying swiftkey 3 beta right now

i cant stand having the swiftkey "key" in the bottom right, time has taught me that is where your number keypad selector is..

And now today I see the new blackberry camera app. I have to say that I am quite impressed.

[Q] anyone have a better keyboard?

going from my original droid to the thunderbolt was cool cuz of all the awesomeness the thunderbolt has to offer with lte and htc sense. I love 98% of the things about the phone. ONE major thing bothers me more than anything else. THE KEYBOARD. the stock droid keyboard is ugly and way too plain. i mean, this site is all about custom, why would i want to revert back to that boring gray square thing. and all of the custom ones in the market suck. The htc keyboard is nice in the sense of having the cool shapes and white keys and longpressing for secondary symbols. I like that. But the god damn arrow keys at the bottom piss me off more than anything. i will never be able to re-configure my brain and muscles in my fingers to adjust to the spacebar being a quarter inch up instead of on the botom of the screen and i constantly hit an arrow key instead of space when im going real fast and it just screws up my whole text or whatever im typing. anybody able to modify that on here? or at least have a better alternative?
OH and also the stupid word corrections go over the send BUTTON!!! BULLSH**!! i hate have to either pick a suggestion or save a word into the dictionary. what if i dont want to save that word? i should be able to just hit send like a stock android phone, where the suggestions come up above the keyboard instead of on top of your message... bad move htc.
sorry about the long post....
I like Better Keyboard.
My personal favorite is Smart Keyboard. There are a ton of options to customize and easy to install and make skins. The new Swiftkey X Bets looks promising too.

+1 smart keyboard, you can resize portrait and landscape to be absolutely gigantic and a bunch of different layouts. Add gestures, which is nice for easy movement of the cursor without arrow buttons.
I actually like Thumb Keyboard.
You can turn off the word suggestions if you don't like it.
I use better keyboard, but the new Swiftkey Beta is pretty nice too!

i actually have become partial to the 8Pen keyboard. after learning it, i'm much faster and more accurate with it. not to mention everyone at work thinks its amazing and they're always wanting to try it out. i even converted one of my co-workers to an 8Pen user =)
I use the original SwiftKey from the Amazon Market when it was a free app awhile back. I havn't had any issues so I havn't seen the need to try the swiftkey x beta but I am sure its good too.
I really really like the new SwiftKey X Beta. Prior to that I used the normal SwiftKey. Even before that, I was a diehard stock HTC keyboard fan so I'm not sure if my opinion will help any

POST Your "HTC EVO 3D" Dislikes HERE! Looking for Options!

Now First off Don't get me wrong, I'm Not starting this thread with intentions to Sh.t on the EVO 3D at All!
"I Personally Love it, and think it was
Definitely Well Worth The Wait!"
With that said...
Like with just about Anything in life, People are Always going to find Something or Someone... To Single out and find whatever Negative there're able to dig up in order to Complain about the Littlest Petty Sh.t they can think of, and I Know unless the Phones actually Customized for them, There's Always going to be something they would Change if they Could...
But Again, I'm Not at all starting this thread to Bash the EVO 3D! I'm Just simply listing certain features I guess I Wish were maybe a little more User Friendly (In My Opinion) for Everyone that may Agree with Me...
1.) I'd have to say coming from the CDMA HTC Hero, I Definitely Miss having the Trackball for "Easy" Scrolling!
2.) Well I suppose this is Almost the same as the first but... In My Opinion since they (HTC) did away with the Trackball they should of at least gave us a Keyboard with Directional Arrows! Especially for the people like me that Always seem to find their self having to Edit a Typo. It's Almost like Surgery having to Drag the pointer, either that "OR" just Try and get Lucky enough to Touch the Perfect spot between to Small ass Letters!
3.) I'm Not Feeling the Stupid Battery Cover! I basically have to Wrestle with it and say a Prayer to God that i Won't Break it to pieces when I Snap it off,
Get it... SNAP it off! Lol...
4.) I Hate the fact that in Settings/SDCard Storage there's even a Option to... Mount/UnMount the Micro SD when its Totally Impossible to Do either on the EVO 3D Without Removing the Battery First! "If Anyone figures out a way Please Post it Here for me!"
5.) I Don't like the Location of the Charger Port! HTC... What was Wrong with "Perfectly Center" on the Bottom? Wasn't Broke till You guys Fixed it! Lol...
6.) Now Maybe I just Don't Handle or Except Change well, But I just Can't seem to get use to the Volume Up/Down buttons on the Right side if the phone, Instead of the Left like on my Poor Retired Hero! Ugh, I Miss it Already...
7.) For whatever reason, While I'm Typing a Text or "Double Clicking" on a Web page to Zoom In/Out it Jumps to a completely Different Spot!
8.) Another thing I came across is when I try to Click the Up Arrow on the Keyboard to Capitalize a letter it almost Always selects the (Z) button instead of Capitalizing the Damn word! The letters (O) and (P) also Do the same to me!
9.) Finally, Last but Not Least...
Give a Damn Option to Un-Install those Pointless System Clogging Apk's like StockMarket, Twitter, Facebook, etc....
I Understand they made it into the System files for... $$$ Purposes but at least give the User the Option to Install Facebook, or whatever else really Isn't Necessary on the Own!
10.)
** If You Noticed I Stopped At 9**
So Anyone that's Willing, Fill in Your 10...
Or Simply just "My" 10th!
*Maybe, If there's Enough people Leaning in a certain Direction on a certain Subject, The EVO 3D Developers can kind of Reference the Infomation and Somehow Incorporate it into their Future Builds!*
"Obviously Not the Physical Buttons,etc."

I'm Not Unhappy with the Phones Internal Features... Mainly just some Externals! Plus I Don't have that many Options seeing I'm Locked in with Sprint again, and I like the whole Sense look!
Like I said I Still Love the Phone, its Fast as Hell and a All Around Great phone but I'm also Considering its Fairly New and the Longer its around the Better it'll get with Development!
No kickstand and charging port location are my only gripes. I don't think ANYONE will ever have a phone they r 100% happy with.

And certain Physical stuff Isn't really enough for me to just Abandon it!
Meh. I was diehard HTC. I had the hero, then to the evo4g(while always yearning for pure Google). Evo 3d wasn't for me so in may I went nexus s.
I say root it, flash 2.3.4/5 and be done.
If you like sense, root the stock and delete all that junk.
I loved and hated that trackball, I finagled new hero's cause I didn't like the white trackball becoming tinged. Honestly, the evo3d, physically, seems a bit utilitarian to me.

I love this phone more then my dog (he chewed my chef clogs last night) but I miss the kick stand, I like the charger on the bottom of the phone and I have a lot of typos due to the smaller keyboard (maybe I just have big thumbs)
With that being said, I can HONESTLY say there is not another phone on the market I'd rather have. And YES that includes SGSII. (Touchwiz blows)

My only gripe is that the camera is totally useless due to the ridiculous shutter lag (delay between when you take the shot and when the camera actually snaps the shot). No combination of settings can change it: shutter lag is always 0.5 to 1.0 second... sometimes more. Other than that, the phone is near perfect and I'm hoping HTC will put some emphasis on fixing the dud of a camera in the next update.

1. It should be dual 8M camera rather than just dual 5M
2. Yeah, give me back keyboard arrows
3. 3rd party equalizer not working on stock music player
4. Both SIM and sdcard should be accessible without removing the back cover
5. I love the camera button, but is it necessary to make 2D/3D switch a physical button also?

Are we better or worse?

For the past week or so I've asking myself if my Android is better or worse than my friend's iPhone with respect to hardware, aesthetics and user-freindly-ness. There are more than a few ways to tackle this question as different features appeal to different people, which is why I present this question to the whole of xda (or just the X2 forum lol) : Which one do you think is better and why?
A couple things: 1.) Im relatively new here and I dont know how often this question is askedso I'll understand if this question starts a riot and is taken down and 2.) I know there will be some bias, but I feel as this forum in particular will be honest in answering my question.
Many to thanks to anyone that happens to read this and many more to anyone that bothers responding!
Android, cause I can do whatever I want, whenever I want. The thought of clouds and cloud connect must really suck not being able to see our hear when your in a building, elevator, tunnel out remote location. Plus only $6.99 a month for insurance, iPhone is $10.99 and I prefer a one year warranty over Apple 90 day warranty.
Yes Apple is simple, simple is as simple does. Simple people like simple things!
I like to unleash, and have the option too change whatever.

Here's the thing. Iphone must jailbreak to do many of the things that android can do out if the box.
But! Iphone does one thing out of the box that android typically has to root to do: run buttery smooth, all the time. Everything Iphone does, it does better stock for stock.
But I cannot own an Iphone for one reason, if no other: the ui is SO boring it puts me to sleep. Android is much more entertaining just swiping home screens and widgets and notification panels, etc.
Just my two cents...
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
I guess it boils down to what you want out of a smrtphone. If you don't care about physical keyboards, interesting ui's, screen size, you just want it to WORK, then I think you're better served by an Iphone. Not me.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
If they are better you wouldn't see us here.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
Okay, the iPhone vs. Android debate is just silly.
It all boils down to what you like.
If you don't care about customization, don't want to worry about having to set things up, want to ensure that your phone works the same as everyone else, then the iPhone is the phone to get. You know that your iPhone 4s will be the same as everyone else who has an iPhone 4s. You all will run the same OS version and get the same update at the same time. No issues with "Hey how come you have ICS and I still have Gingerbread?" No issues with waiting for your phone manufacturer to release a certain version of the OS (like we have with all the different phone manufacturers and carriers for Android).
But, if you want to customize, you want to change the UI, you want flexibility, don't mind researching which phones might best fit you, understand what the different Android OS versions are, etc, then the Android is your way.
It all depends on how much control you want over your phone. Even with Android, though, carriers make it difficult at times to allow you to have that full control. That is the current issue with the X2 and many other Motorola phones - no unlocked bootloader which makes it more difficult to upgrade the phone to the latest Android OS. But, if you have developer support, then chances are, you'll see some great things come. Fortunately, with the X2, we have some great devs out there - Nitro, Dragonzkiller, Aceoyame - that are creating some excellent custom ROMs for the X2.
But, with Android, you have to keep up with what is out there IF you want to keep customizing. You could still get an Android, not root it and not customize it and you might be fine, but you really need to investigate which phones work the best out of the box. The X2 doesn't. Too much BLUR crap in it, hence that's why we like to put on custom ROMs that remove that BLUR which in turn, helps the performance of the phone.
Okay, that was long, but it pretty much sums up that it all boils down to each persons personal preference. Just because I like Android over iOs doesn't mean it's right for the next person. You just have to investigate it and choose the one that best fits you. If you like what you chose, then it was the right choice for you. I just can't stand when people try to just say things like "Android is the best. iOs sucks" without backing it up with any facts other than personal opinion. That is NOT fair to the next person looking for a phone.
I had iphone for 5 years, starting with the first one and then the 3g and then the 4! I always jailbreaked it and it was a pain to use itunes! I loved it b4 but now with my gNote i can never consider byuin an iphone again! Too simple for me! This comes down to what u want to do with the phone, my parents use iphone cause its simple, but for somebody who wants to modify his phone, iphone is not the phone for those people! Android is developing much faster than iphone, and for me, that somethin i appreciate alot!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
iPhones are for the people who don't understand nor want to understand the technology they are holding in their hands, they just want to go as far as jail breaking their phone. Android users are the ones that tend to be more into the technology in their phones. But then there are those iPhone users who think they know technology, yet they have a hard time understanding the difference between hard drive and SD card. So I think it boils down to the person, to their interest and how much time they want to spend on their phone besides texting and playing angry birds haha
Don't hate me, I just see a lot of people with iPhones thinking they know more about this stuff while spitting out words at random like "my CPU is better than yours!" Yet they have no idea what a CPU is.

Many thanks to everyone for the great insight. So the conclusion I draw from this thread and other deabates on the topic is that: iPhone: user freindly (not to say the Droid isn't) and simple thus making it very very appealing to the masses. It also is very limited when it comes to making modifications (which to me is quite a downfall to us but enables a Droid user to ultimately push past the iPhone user).
The Droid: Huge selection of phones. Can be modified to all hell assuming your model is fairly unlocked and if I might add, the only option for a man with big hands. Our major downfall is that some phones fall behind in development whereas the iPhone os is functionally consistent across most models.
So sorry if that was long but I really enjoy getting as much info as possible on a certain subject and presenting it to those better than me to make sure its accurate is important soooo please correct me if anything I said was wrong!!!

I chose the x2 OVER the I phone based on performance and customization differences IN STORE, which means I felt the x2(or any Droid in store) offered more for me to do/play with right out the box.
That's the basic difference, whether you root or jailbreak or not the DROID DOES...plain and simple
Widgets widgets widgets
many different launchers you can custom fit to your liking
Many more options
AND THEN YOU ROOT
And wow its a whole new world, get ready

Any Epic users coming over?

I've got concerns about not having a keyboard..
Does anyone who has owned a keyboard phone ever made the switch to one of these large screens?
I'd love to hear about the transition..
I had a physical keyboard for all my phones until the EVO 4G. I thought it was going to be a brutal transition - but it wasn't. I'd never want another physical keyboard again actually.
Suggestion: Pay for Swiftkey X. It is amazing keyboard. It learns your typing habits and has incredible predictive capabilities. I have OFTEN missed every single letter of a word, and it still has the correct word ready for me, haha. Worth every penny.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8E_zMLCRNg
lol jk. having a keyboard or not is a personal preference and I can't speak for you but IMO a phone is way better without and you'd get used to it fast. Google it or check this out http://www.talkandroid.com/55183-physical-or-virtual-keyboard-maybe-we-can-help-you-decide/ and it should be an easy decision.
ohh, and x2 for swiftkey. I can type with my eyes closed almost.
Years ago i asked the same question. These guys are right, its all about finding the right keyboard on screen. I am still old school and like the Gingerbread Keyboard available for free on the market. But swiftkey x is a very nice 2nd choice for me.
The SwiftKey 3 beta on their forums (you have to register, it's free) is great. A few little quips here and there but it's beta software. I've used SwiftKey X since it came out. Beautiful keyboard, amazing predictions. Sometimes it puts hilarious but completely wrong stuff in there. I was typing "especially", I got to "esp" and it suggested "Esperanza". I laughed.
Nothing will ever beat Swype!

Seriously, I loved Swype for a long time - now I never use it.
Even the stock HTC keyboard should work well if you have the word prediction enabled. The screens are so large that unless you have gargantuan hands its a breeze to type, I too had a keyboard phone before the EVO 4G and i will never go back.

For me personally, having come from a touch pro 2 to the old evo, with all of my close friends using epics, i would have to say that the transition was not as hard as i imagined it to be, from one of the best hardware keyboards on a phone to having no keyboard at all. The screen size on the original evo definately made a difference in usability, and i would imagine that the even bigger screen on the new one will make it much less harsh. At first i thought it was because i was just able to adapt because i just got the hang of it, but then i tried to use the tiny keyboards on my parents' iphones and i realized fast that the screen size was a big factor.
I use keyboard manager to keep it in swype in portrait mode and switch to thumb keyboard in landscape, its a little less accurate than having a hardware keyboard, but its not the end of the world.

Siri be damned.

Just ran across this, looks promising. We'll see what happens.

I like this so much I put $20 into it. Deal is if it doesn't fund you get your money back, so it's not much of a gamble. I'm not suggesting you do, that's your decision.
Update # 3 http://www.kickstarter.com/activity?ref=menu
Hope the final release does not ramble on as much! Last thing I need is another woman rambling on in my life.

Long way to go to get to $150k.
Hate to slam this, but there are like 100 Siri clones in the market.
Some are pretty good.
And didn't google hire the Siri developer from Apple last year?
Moving this to the right section......themes and APPS....
On another note what's so different about this from the countless others in the android market already?.....like iris, jeannie,...?

Sorry about that Slaughter, it was late. Check it out . We currently have nothing even close. This guy seem to be on the right track for sure. Did you take the time to fully read the guys credentials & watch the demo. Seem like this thing is a lot more sophisticated than anything out there now, i like it. Maybe Google will buy him out. One can only hope. Would love to see Apple get blown out of the water. This post wont get any coverage back here any chance of moving it back ?

i skimmed it...still there are a few apps in the market that do a ton if not all of what siri can do right now...
as for moving it back, im going to have to deny that as it doesn't make sense to put it up in general when its app related and doesn't really warrant the need to get huge coverage at this point anyway...If this thing starts to gain traction or become some kind of big huge event then maybe...
but for now app/theme talk is what belongs in this forum, so itll stay here in the mean time...

Judging from the video, this software is way more intuitive than any of the current voice apps. I'm using Speaktoit Assistant and Vlingo right now and they work pretty good, but you have to learn what to say to get it to do what you want.
In this video, the software seems to actually "know" what you mean and what you might mean and convey it back to you in a true conversational tone. In addition, it can differentiate between your "message" and "command" words intutitively.
Looks pretty impressive to me compared to what's currently out there. This seems to be actual AI instead of pattern or keyword recognition used in Vlingo or Speaktoit.
I'm in.

Yeah, I prefer Assistant by speaktoit for Jeanine type functionality. It works pretty well conversationally.
I can't remember why Jeanine didn't work that well for me. Not sure if you watched the SILVIA video or not but it appears to be much more intelligent with seemingly highly advanced memory and cognition.

Utter! is the only voice assistant I'm interested in.

I donated $20. Figured why not, I like the fact that it let him build on the outgoing SMS. Wish it would have shown up the message it sent, to see how good it was at putting his words down. Whenever I use a assistant app it always gets a extra work in their -_-
So when you make the $20.00 donation, you'll receive the app when est. release? Or do you get it now, then updates?

According to the kickstarter page, if the project gets funded, estimate release date is Dec 2012.
