(Q) 2 'Dots?' next to Proximity sensor? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What are the two "dots" between the proximity sensor and the mic? Thanks!

The "Dots" are from left to right:
Front camera, proximity sensor, light sensor. The "mic" is not - it is the earpiece (a speaker)

Where the heck is it located? I thought the small circle just left of the speaker grill was it, but that's the proximity sensor.

Perhaps my problem is that it doesn't work with Juice Defender's beta brightness adjustments. Turned those off and it's somewhere in the speaker area for sure.

You are correct. It's a combination proximity and ambient light sensor (same as on the original Evo).

Proximity sensor is not working

First I noticed that my Haptic keys no longer light on. The phone is not rooted. But I have a feeling its my proximity sensor.
I was using tab tab app to unlock the screen.
Tried it again and its not working.
Any ideas.

Weird infra red light?

The first proximity sensor next to the front speaker has like a red infra red light..
Anyone else notice this?

Mine does the same thing. It's for the direct call feature for texting. If you turn direct call off in your motion settings you won't see it anymore.
It's the proximity sensor.
It is OK to light up and it will do that with any application that uses it.
It's much more noticeable in the dark.

yup its the proximity sensor.
its the sensor that turns off the screen when you place the phone near the ear, so that you don't activate touch functionality of the screen by mistake.
The infrared is for Smart Alert that turns on after the predetermined time you have your screen to turn off. It will turn red for like 2 seconds to see if youre still facing the phone. If it doesnt detect your face the screen will dim as usual.
The smart stay feature uses the front facing camera not the proximity sensor. The proximity sensor is the sensor closest to the speaker grill.

I don't know if that exactly accurate as I have seen the eye icon show up for about a second while my phone was not in front of me and the proximity sensor turns red. After this my screen dims. Its possible they work in conjunction.

Odd I don't get a red dot.. but my put to ear thing works.
It's really dim. I only saw it at night in the dark.

Stupid question about s3

Hi, what are the two dots beside the front camera in the s3?
One is the proximity sensor to turn off screen during a call and the other is light sensor to detect the intensity of the light of the surroundings and adjust the screen brightness accordingly when set to auto.

Proximity sensor?

Is there a proximity sensor on this device?
I thought I'd download smart screen on (an app) to lock and unlock the screen when I close the cover, but nothing happens.
