I have the new radio because I flashed the Tmo Stock ICS leak. I am still S-On and using 4eXt Recovery and rooted. Everything was working great so I made a backup. I then flashed Revolutionized-Senseless ICS Rom and that also worked great so I also made a backup.
I've decided i prefer Sense UI 3.6 so I tried restoring my Stock backup nut somehow cannot. My question is...is there a zip file I can flash through recovery that would give me back Stock Tmo ICS without having to go through flashing the leaked ph85img.zip, then flashing a recovery, then rooting it and then setup.
MD5 checked on the Stock backup but would still not flash. Any help would be appreciated.
My guess is, and I havent dug into this, that Revolutionized changed the radio or some other basic architecture that the stock ics needs. Im guessing youre going to have to flash PH85IMG.zip. Once you have that flashed and rooted, you should be able to flash back to your other stock backup so you have all your apps and stuff installed again.
Perhaps if you could offer more specifics on why you cant flash back to your stock backup such as error messages or what happens when you try to flash it?

Okay, I just rooted my brother's HTC Hero (GSM Unlock) and updated it to 2.1 Villain, but there were some bugs, like in the messages app, the key board wouldn't show up in a conversation. FB Sync wouldn't sync pictures to his contacts. Is there any way I can downgrade back to the original 1.5? If so, can anyone give me a link to download that .zip? thanks!
*note* I tried flashing the official 2.1 update, it failed
And what is a Nandroid backup? Can I restore it with that?

You really should have read up before just rooting and flashing. A nandroid backup is a backup of the phone so you can restore to how it was before you started to play with it.
You can download the rom you require here.
You should have done a Nandroid backup before trying to flash a new ROM, this is a MUST DO everytime you plan on messing around with the phone, it would simply let you restore the backup back to normal.
You need to do a full wipe of the phone and flash the new ROM posted above.
Jamie.
Can I just flash a stock rom of the HTC Hero generic? I flashed a rooted one, but I keep getting this notification about an OTA,I tried installing it, but it fails. If I flash a stock rom (if possible) can I install the OTA's?
I seem to be having somewhat the same problem.
Although I didnt flash my hero to that custom rom you're mentioning.
The problem is that I've been running the modaco 3.0 rom for quite a while and wanted to get the stock 2.1 rom.
I've tried to flash it using the HTC tool but couldn't be done. I accidently overrided my nandroid backup of the stock 1.5 rom so I found a stock 1.5 on modaco's forum and flashed it.
Now I'm running 1.5, build 2.73.405.5
Every time I wipe the phone and start from scratch (setting up the phone as if it was new) I get a notification about a new OTA update. When I try to update it, the phone resets (seems fine) and it ends up in Nandroid and doesn't get any further.
Then I chose to reboot the phone and the phone runs as normal but still no new firmware.
What am I doing wrong?
I've also tried the HTC tool for flashing the ROM but end up with a connection error (170).
I have of course wiped the phone but it doesn't help...

I have the same problem! And when I do flash 2.1, the keyboard never appears when I go to the messages app. I just flashed an official stock 2.73.405.66 build, what if I do the OTA? Will it fail too? 'Cause I think it fails because last time, my phone was rooted.
Anyone got help? :-/
I am running AMON recovery and never had problems with restoratiion of backed up ROMS. I flashed Clean ROM ICS yesterday and wanted to revert back to a GB ROM. The backup file restored with no error messages but after rebooting I got the white HTC screen followed by a dimly lit gray screen for about 5 minutes. I then tried another backed up GB ROM with similar results.
Flash the GB kernel... The Kernel can not be flashed from recovery... even from backups.
Kernels need to be flashed from fastboot, you can use the cleanflash tool to do it.
Thanks for your quick reply. Will try this later. Have never flashed kernels alone, hopefully not much more of a learning curve than flashing ROMs.

Did a search. Anybody help in locating stock kernel would be appreciated. Also do I flash this before or after restoring my GB based ROM?

If you grab Scott's CleanROM1.5 kernel(located in the ROM zip file) it is stock just with tweaks. It should still work with other ROMs. I always flash the kernel after flashing the ROM but I'm fairly sure it can work either way.
Thanks, I have Scott's already and will give it a try.

Thought I'd try a simpler path. If I just flash Scotts entire clean ROM after a data wipe, will that get me back to a GB kernel? Then I can restore one of my GB ROMS.

Still need to flash the boot.img from Clean rom in fastboot to get the kernel. Remember even with a wipe your not touching the kernel so the ICS kernel is still there regardless of the rom your flashing. So have to flash the GB kernel in fastboot either way.
Finally, got back. I flashed RezROM which includes a new kernel, modified stock then restored my GB backup. I see that this has been a more widespread problem and a thread has been started on the Development Forum.
Will definitely store a backup kernel on my SD if I plan to go back and forth between GB and ICS.
Nice development... good to know that if one doesnt know how to flash the boot.img they can just flash rezrom and restore to their last GB rom.
Ok, so right now I'm tempted to try either CleanRom 3.7 or Nils' Business 2.3
Currently running 2.01.605.11. I made a nandroid backup in Amon Ra.
I think I understand that installation requires going into Amon Ra doing a factory reset / clearing data, cache, dalvik cache and then installing the ROM from .zip.
Once installed from .zip, the phone will reboot into Bootloader and prompt to install the kernel and all should be well after that completes...
As far as Mainver stuff goes, those shouldn't be an issue or need me to do anything b/c they're already addressed by the developers.
What I'm not understanding how I'd go back to stock if I decide either ROM is not my cup of tea-- would it be as simple as Amon Ra factory reset, clearing data, cache, dalvik cache and then restoring the nandroid backup from Amon Ra? Or do I need to re-flash the whole stock ROM vigorOTAStockRooted.zip and before restoring my nandroid backup?
Am I missing anything else?
Do I need to re-lock the bootloader before trying to install either of the ROMs?
You don't need to relock bootloader...you can flash to Scotts ics (ive used it and never had mainver issues). It will flash the drop you to boatloader to flash kernel. Play with Ics,
if you decide to go back to stock delete the pimg file on the extsd just in case the gb kernel doesn't overwrite it. Trying to run ics kernel on gb won't work and vice versa.
I would do a fresh install of Scotts cleanrom 1.7.5 which will flash the gb kernel in the same manner as his ics. If you want Verizon stock you will probably need to find the stock kernel thread in development forum and flash manually with the directions there.
I like Scotts 1.7.5 so as I go back and forth I flash rom, kernel, load up Rom delete kernel file. Then when I go back I just start from scratch wipe everything and flash Rom,kernel, etc.
There's probably easier ways, but I haven't run into any issues and its the easiest for me. I use both of Scotts Roms so my.experience is a bit different. I made a backup while on 1.7.5 and load Rom and then go back and restore it. Just to be safe.
Worst case if you want to go back to stock you can relock boatloader and run ruu. It will erase all data but it will be just like you got it from Verizon, minus the relocked boatloader

Sorry for the rambling response...typed in spurts while at work. If anyone has other ways or I misspoke feel free to correct me.
You just need to flash the gingerbread boot.img either via fastboot or PH method, then restore your backup.

You can now use this along with nandroid to flash your old kernel back.

I've had bluetooth streaming problems with EVERY ICS custom ROM that I've tried before and after 3.11.605.22, and while on the stock RUU itself. I want to get back to a GBE based ROM, on stock firmware but I wonder how it's going to work after having flashed the 3.11.605.22 RUU.
Has anyone gone back? Is it even possible to get back to the previous firmware, or am I SOL?
I assume that a simple nandroid restore is now out of the question (and probably won't fix the bluetooth problem) given the firmware changes with the RUU

it actually is just that simple, flash your GB nandroid and/or ROM the GB kernel.
you will need to flash this file after flashing back to your nandroid/ROM in order for rom to see SD card.. same fix was applied with old firmware to have sd seen on ics roms. its just doing the reverse.

Similar situation. Completely unacceptable power draw is frying my battery on the leak. I'm afraid I'm going to cook my phone, and USB charge can't keep up with the drain unless I put it in airplane mode. I have good nandroid backups of the current OTA release (released February, I think?) but I don't know where to get suitable GB kernel or how to install it. Can you explain?

Thanks. I'll have to give it a try. So you say I should flash a previous backup / ROM from recovery, then flash the kernel (if it doesn't flash as a part of the ROM installation)

yea do the exact same thing you would do as if you are on still on the old firmware.
the ONLY thing you do differently, is flash the .zip file I attached in my other post anything AFTER flashing the new GB ROM/ and/or old backup.. and kernel(in hboot) if not included in ROM.
Hey guys,
Wanted to get a sure answer.
Whats the safest way to restore back to the stock firmware fro CM10 (or any rom in general).
There are two answers that i seem to have come across.
Answer 1:
Just download the stock firmware. Extract tar. Load onto PDA, check auto reset the flash reset and then start. Boom done! Everything reverts to stock, modem, firmware, kernel, etc.
Answer 2:
YOU MUST first flash stock kernel. So flash that first via odin then open odin again and flash the rom. If you don't flash the stock kernel first and then just flash the stock firmware, you'll have some issues.
As you can see, both are a bit contradicting. Whats the right method?
You missed one.
Make a nandroid of your stock ROM. then once you're done checking out CM or whatever else, just restore that. A lot less headache.

Yep, nandroid is much much faster. In fact I went to lunch today and restored my CM10 nandroid to show a friend. 10 minutes later I was back to my Samsung ROM. Its much easier than flashing stock, then re-rooting, then loading all your apps and data back on.
I had heard that nandroid restores between stock/CM9/CM10 were causing bugs, or something of the sort.
If it really is working that easily, I might have to give these CM9/CM10 builds a try. I just didn't want to play around with it for a bit and then be forced to set up my stock configuration all again, because I do have a need for a certain level of stability.
Edit: Ah, I was thinking of our Verizon version however. I think it might require an Odin flash back to stock, then you can restore a stock nandroid backup.
While I can't guarantee you won't have problems, I can say that I haven't had any issues while restoring nandroids.
*your experience may differ.

What version of CWM or TWRP is working fine for nandroid backup and restore, specially for Tmo version?
