Yes. You can flash the ICS leak then unlock bootloader (htc dev) and perm root with hasoon2000s excellent all in one tool kit.in the development section.

Yes. Verify what version youre running now that its "stock" and go from there.

Unrevoked and Alpharev just released an update to the revolutionary tool to work with the Thunderbolt. So It's super easy now. No downgrade or loss of data. Check the stickies on the dev section for the link. I think its http://revolutionary.io

hey guys im no noob but im coming from a droid 3 and getting a tbolt in a week or 2 and i cant find any guide on how to root if i use the official htc unlock. is there a way to root after that or do i have to use revolutionary method.

Downgrading and using Revolutionary seems to be the word of mouth on this phone. Not really a problem except for wanting to back up app data first. I read about something called TacoRoot? Allowing temp–root so Titanium Backup can run before downgrading. Anything on this? Or a similar method of being able to root without downgrading (safely) or gaining temp–root?

I have tried One click Root, but it seems that was designed for Ginger bread. HELP!!!
I have been rooting and flashing on the droid x2 and a Droid charge. Rooting and updating wasnt nearly as difficult. Consider me somewhat of a noob.

You need to install Su from recovery under the development menu.

You can always flash Scott's CleanRom. It comes already rooted.
If you unlocked and ran RUU leak, you'll need to install a custom recovery such as Amon Ra. After that boot to recovery and then go to the developer menu to install Su, which will give you root.
Search forum for the Amon Ra thread to get the 3.15 version that supports your leaked firmware. Flash it using fastboot.

In order to run the ruu, the phone needed to be locked/relocked. Make sure that after the ruu process was complete you unlocked the phone again using the htcdev.com tool or hasoons tool. Then you should be able to flash recovery and add super user with amon ra.

I can't seem to get my rezound bacc to stocc so I'm gatherin tha balls to s-off my phone kinda scared cuz if it fucc it up I'm out of a phone so Wat I need to no is can I still do tha wire tricc even though I'm on a custom Rom

It's beed said to work an a dew custom roms but none specifies for sure.. your best bet is to lock your bootloader, runs an ruu, root the stock setup, then do the control bear procedure.. don't scare your self theres a 0%chance you'll messs something up as long as you follow instructions

Well no.. you have to be stock, unlocked and rooted.. not on a custom Rom or.kernel or anything.. steps are:
Lock bootloader
Run ruu (fully stock)
Unlock bootloader
Flash amon ra
Flash superSU in recovery https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0ZJtM40GdJ0MEpGeG1ZWi0yNDA/edit.
Boot phone open su app and except any updates
Confirm root (root checker)
Then start control bear procedure.

There we had a program called flashtool which did everything on the click of a button
Like root it without unlocking bootloader
& install custom kernels & flash stock images
Do we have a similar program here?
I've seen jcases method but my device is just a few days old & don't want to risk bricking it

If you want to root it(and have superuser access) you must unlock the bootloader.
