Easy on your pc or laptop xtract the zip file and then open the folder scroll down and you will see your boot.IMG next your going to copy it to the same folder that you have your fastboot drivers in next boot the EVO into bootloader and conect the USB cable and press power and now you should see fastboot USB on the EVO next on your pc or laptop open cmd for example on my laptop I will typ cd\rootevo3dnew now my fastboot commands are running next I will typ fastboot flash boot boot.IMG now you've flashed your boot.IMG next boot your EVO

First off, punctuation is your friend. It helps us to understand your gibberish.
Second, you need to provide more info. How did you root? Are you s-off? What recovery are you using? Are you properly wiping before flashing?

If u r hboot 1.50 / HTC Unlocked, have a look at the guide in my signature. Sounds like the kernel/boot img isn't being flashed properly.

Flashing trouble

Ok so I've searched a few different times now and gotten nowhere. Every time I try to flash a rom outside of the stock miui I get boot loops from it or it stays at the splash screen which has been stuck on the ICS one. I've tried wiping everything super wipes w/e you name it. Just won't let me flash any rom's. Should I return to stock and re-root? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
flashing
are you gsm or cdma and do you have s on or s off
cdma sprint with S-off 1.4 H-boot Twrp touch recovery. Tried super wipe and wiping cache and data n system more times than I can count.
Sounds like you've lost your boot.IMG if thats the case you have to xtract it from the zip file on your pc or laptop and when your done xtracting open up the folder and scroll down and you will see your boot.IMG now copy and past into the same folder that you have fastboot and adb in next boot the device into bootloader now connect your USB cable and next press power you should now be in fastboot USB next on your pc or laptop open cmd and typ cd\and what ever you use to get your fastboot program working for example I would typ cd\rootevo3dnew and my fastboot cmd is active and now I typ fastboot flash boot boot.IMG now press enter this should get your EVO to boot let me know how it works out
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
So just to not screw this up take whatever ROM I want to flash extract the boot.img, flash it through fastboot adb comands then that should fix it? I didn't think boot.img's could hold up the entire rom. I'll try that. n see what happens.
Yes I have s off
Sent from my EVO 3D gsm s off using xda premium
There you go thats how its done
Sent from my EVO 3D gsm s off using xda premium
One thing you forgot it only works for the Rom you've already flashed so what ever Rom you've flashed you need that boot.IMG from that Rom you've flashed
Sent from my EVO 3D gsm s off using xda premium
Yes it can and will the boot.IMG is the key to booting and then the kernal take's over from there

I must be typing the fastboot commands wrong or something. Feeling pretty stupid heh.. again I appreciate the help.
may have fixed it using root explorer n just copied the boot animation to the spot in system media. Thanks a million for the help dude!

Still new to rooting, just got a evo 3d

I picked up a 3d last night used for a great price. I got it activated on my account and it works pretty well. I want root it now and start playing with roms. I looked up the hboot and it's 1.5.000 but it says relocked. Doing some research i'm finding it means the device was rooted at one time and then unrooted, is that correct? Or is it in like a partial root because I still have s-on. And while were here any preferences for a good stable ics rom with everything working? If everything works but 4g that would be ok too. Thanks
Edit: It's a cdma phone.

First step head over to HTC dev and sign up and unlock your bootloader and once your successful at unlocking your bootloader next you will install a custom recovery and then install the Su files this will give you root access and when this is done you may want to do a backup before flashing a rom this way if something go's wrong you can do a system restore from your backup

Thanks. Here is where I'm at now. I'm using the htc unlocker and I've made it towards the end of the process. Had a few little hiccups along the way, nothing major or frustrating. Just a little learning. I am however stuck at the part where you are trying to get the code out of your phone. It says waiting for device and then doesn't go anywhere from there. But i'm not getting any errors. My phone is in fastboot usb so I know it's connected at least. I tried googling and youtube with no answers. My phone is a evo 3d with the 1.50 hboot. Thanks.

If you have installed the HTC drivers then boot into hboot and then plug in the USB cable and then press power and you should now be in fastboot usb next on your pc open cmd and typ you cmd's to get your fastboot driver's working and then typ fastboot get identifier token and it will display your token that you will copy and past into HTC dev which will be on step 8 and then click submit and you will receive a email then check your email and download the unlock code.bin when your done downloading go to your download folder and copy the unlock cod into the same folder that you have your fastboot driver in and then open cmd and typ your commands for example this is what i typ on mine cd\rootevo3dnew press enter now my fastboot driver is working next I will typ fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin press enter and you should now see the option to unlock your boatloader on your EVO press volume up for yes and press the power button

Please Help, Evo 3D won't boot pass the htc logo

So I tried flashing MeanRom the ics version onto the Evo 3d, and it flashed it. But every time it booted into the lock screen it rebooted itself. So I tried going back to the back up I made. But did not work, tried flashing a different rom but did not work also. It will go into recovery which was twrp but switched it to Ext4. So whatever I try it will just go into the HTC logo and get stuck there. I am at a loss, Please Help.
I will keep trying, but I'm running out of ideas
it does have s-on

I had this exact same issue after trying to flash Myn's ICS ROM with Touch Recovery on 1.5 s-on..How I was finally able to fix it was to delete the 4 ext folder off my SD card. Then I booted into fastboot and pushed TWRP recovery back onto my phone and flashed a gingerbread rom. If you need help pushing the recovery via fastboot, this thread is the answer. Be sure to give JTNiggle some thanks.

Good luck.

Doesn't EXT4 Touch Recovery take care of that for you? That was my impression. Off topic, I know..
evo rebooting
yes 4ext recovery takes care of that and you guys should be using it and make sure you have smart flash enable
I did try flashing a gingerbread rom with twrp but didn't work, which is why I flashed ext4

Well I used the dumlock method, which should have helped me flash the rom without manually going into my computer to flash via cmd right?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Happens to me too!
To flash a new ROM, go to your computer, Command Prompt , type in the direction of your recovery. ex= cd\evo3dTWRP, then type in "fastboot boot recovery.img (or whatever the name of your recovery img is), press enter and your phone should boot into Recovery. Wipe all data, then flash ROM.
BTW: Do you have Smartflash Enabled in 4EXT,?
Well bootloader is working and the recovery is too, I used twrp but noticed it wasn't working so I flashed 4ext. But for some reason it won't boot up roms (of any kind) or even restore my backup. The recoveries will restore or flash the rom. But once I reboot the phone it will just get stuck on the HTC logo. Yeah smartflash is and was enabled.

So I'm stuck in bootloop (Rooted Evo 3D)

So, I rooted my phone last night and ever since I've been stuck in bootloop. I loaded one rom and it was in bootloop all night until the phone died. I charged the phone up, wiped it and tried another, stuck in bootloop for hours with nothing working. Now, the bigger problem is, I - being an idiot - forgot to do a nandroid backup so there is nothing to restore too, yet when I set it to factory settings it's once again stuck in bootloop.
All my phone now displays is the green HTC logo on the white background, until the phone battery dies.
So... how screwed am I?
EDIT: CDMA, S-on, 1.50, I used HTC dev to root it.
Did you root with HTC dev. You need to flash the boot.IMG using fastboot.

CDMA, S-on, 1.50, I used HTC dev to root it. CM 9 Nightly.
Do what I said. Boot your phone into the boot loader. Select fastboot. Stick the boot.IMG from the Rom you used into the folder on the pc that you used with htcdev.
Connect your device.
Open up command prompt. Navigate to the folder in command prompt where you put the boot.IMG
Type fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
If it works it will say so restart your phone and enjoy.

Meaning I can just nandroid backup this rom? Or do I have to reflash it then flash the new ones over it?
If you want to flash a new rom do a nandroid backup first and then wipe everything. But everytime you flash a new Rom you have to flash the boot.IMG seperatley that was supplied with the Rom if that makes sense. This also applied when doing a recovery.

Unless the boot.IMG is automatically with each rom that does not make sense. However, if that means (which I pretty sure it does, I just need that extra clear clarification) that a new boot.IMG is supposed to be supplied with every single new ROM then that would explain why my phone is still in bootloop. No changes since last time I was on, about an hour ago I took the battery out and restarted it.
So it's still in bootloop whenever I try anything.
Help as well...
Stuck in the same problem. Hboot 1.50, S-on, and I'm trying to load Evergreen's CM7 port. I'm also using CWM 4.x (can't remember number, just the non touch version). Whenever I try to start my phone all I get is the white HTC screen with the little vibrate, then the black screen, and then the HTC screen once again and so on. I've tried flashing the boot from the file and then flashing the ROM with and without the boot.img in the .zip file. Help me. Please.
You need to flash the rom first then restart your phone load in to fastboot and flash the boot.img using fastboot. Search the forums there should be a more detailed way on how to do this. But its pretty much the same instructions I gave in previous post.
Try following this if your struggling.

Ah ok you mentioned you flashed the boot.img first that's all
Also try formatting your sd card or use a spare one and format that and then flashing the Rom and boot.IMG. I had to do that with my desire s.

[Q] [A] Help stuck on boot loop.... cannot find help in searched threads

GSM, S-on, H boot 1.49.0018, I used HTC dev to root it. Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
I unlocked my GSM Evo3D bootloader using the HTCDev.com method.
I had the Cool Rom, Cool ICS v8 running fine. I would flash the boot image via fast boot “fastboot flash boot boot.img”
All was fine, the battery wasn’t lasting long enough and I decided to change ROM to see what else was on offer.
I did full wipe and deleted dalvik cache.
I flashed the mwakious3Drom ROM, from version 7? As stated to do, this booted up fine and I restarted this and used the phone for a few minutes.
I then tried to upgrade this to version 10 using the correct method and that’s when the problem started the phone was stuck on the splash screen when turned on
I tried again to flash the kernel, because searches for threads all say flash the kernel via fast boot and this has just had me stuck on the htc boot logo the phone restarts every time and this continues.
I tried another rom to see if this would fix it and I tried the King Cobra rom. everything seems to flash fine and then I get stuck on the Splash screen of the ROM.
In a last attempt I tried a shipped ROM (getting the rom from the exe when extracted etc) and I have had no luck, it will not flash (maybe for an obvious reason, I even tried the boot image, no luck)
I have had a desire, desire HD and incredible s before this windows mobile phones, I generally do not have problems but was stupid enough to not do a backup so there is nothing to restore! I hardly have had a problem so tried to save on the space (idiot).
I have a Desire HD and I can flash roms fine, I have clearly made a silly mistake somewhere but I cannot get anything at the minute to work as a fix.
If someone could advise that would be great and I would change the title to have an answer to help others in the future.
Thank you I appreciate your help.
*(Another thing I noticed if it's important. When booting into Rev CWM it says at the bottom,
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
etc. Probably because I don't have them?)
You just have to mount USB from CWM and then you can control your phones memory from your computer after the drivers have installed themselves after you plugged your phone into the computer
Just go into mounts and storage in cwm and you will see the option to mount USB.
It can't mount the drives because you deleted them but it should be okay if you just mount USB and drag drop the ROM onto your device.
I also suggest to call claims and let them know you want them to send you a sky rocket instead if they sent you the desire in place of the old captivate. The screen on the desire had issues. Do this asap if you don't want to be stranded without a working phone. It happened to me and I had to pull the battery a few times. I was pretty upset to be quite honest.

You can flash any of the custom ICS roms with the base 3.28.401.1
You can NOT flash any of the custom ICS roms with the base 3.28.707.1
without the new radio and firmware the 707 base will not install and will go into a constant bootloop.
of course you know to use lastest 4ext recovery or "fastboot flash boot boot.img" command on the 401 roms.

Worked great when I tried a ROM with a 401 base. I didn't realise this caused issues.
I wasn't doing a great deal wrong then was I. The only thing is the king cobra ROM should have worked.
Thanks again for the quick reply.

4ext does a great job of flashing any GB Rom including kernel with S-on, but s-on people flashing ICS with it still seem to have problems for some reason. That's why I always suggest s-off.

I normally use the anthrax hybrid kernel to flash ics and it works fine I was s-on til last night. I'm also on cdma so it may not apply but you should research before you flash any rom to make sure something extra isn't required
