Reverted back to stock no service - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

So I was running a Shomans rom really liked it but decided I wanted to run 2.3.6 again rooted so I reverted back to stock build and now my modem dont seem to be working anymore it picks up signal then right back out my wifi works fine but cant make any calls or anything. Ive cleared data/factory reset even ran with a unrooted build but same issue.

Check your apn settings

Depends on a lot. Apn settings. The modem ur using. Did u do a full wipe between builds. (No this is not factory reset. A full wipe includes wiping /system /data /cache /dalvik partitions.) What apps do u have installed? Anything to turn on/off data like a power saving app?

full wipe, no miss

Ok, Sorry for the delay in response. So what it looks like is my modem it will have no service turning on then goes in and out and just drops it for a while. I starts working randomly. Like from Edge to 3G nework change I lose service. I went from ShoMans build to the stock build. I didnt wipe everything just factory reset. As Im a noob and just starting to get into all of this I dont really know how to do that step.

Just a interesting observation. I took my sim out and sd card restarted my phone and instantly had signal. Emergency calls only but it had service from the start as mine goes in and out for 5-10 mins before having and maintaining a signal. Wierd.

Well Ive fix the issue it wasnt a full wipe that solved it. The Build I used to go back to stock something was wrong with it. I grabbed the build from Entrophys back to stock. It was creepyncrawly's post that took it back to a stock build and able to fix the modem from going in and out. Thanks Creepy!

The one that didn't work was probably a bad download, or a bad flash.

[Q]Wifi issue still present factory reset fixed.

So, before I start this, Yes I was a noob. I didnt make a nandroid backup from when I first rooted my phone and everything worked 100%. I didnt read, and I guess its now biting me in the ass.
The past few months Ive been having issues with Wifi, it continuously says "Unable to scan for networks". I did a factory reset about a week and a half ago and for the first time my wifi was able to connect, however it was dropping out every couple minutes. Wouldnt even stay connected to install any market updates.
I figured that it was something with my dying router(Which Ive since replaced) so I flashed in BAMF to see if I could keep my wifi connection with another rom. Ive been using VirusROM(Love it even though its out od date). I wiped and flashed in BAMF, and restarted. When I restarted, I had no wifi again. Since then, Ive been trying out different ROMS and kernels in hopes that I would find something that would fix it. Nothing did.
After this I figured that I would just do another factory reset and go from there, however with all of the times Ive done the factory resets it never actually gets reset. Does it wipe my info? Yes, but it boots back up with all of the portions of whatever ROM I had installed last. Not reset. So now Ive ended up with two problems.
1. I still have no wifi
2. I cant factory reset so that I can figure out what is going on with my wifi.
Ive wiped Cache/Batt Stats/Davlick and done a factory reset literally six times in a row to hopefully clean EVERYTHING OUT to no avail. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I hope Im just missing something small because Im still new to android.
Edit: I DO NOT use kernel manager and I dont use ROM manager to flash it in, I flash everything in through recovery.

I'm sure there's an RUU out there that will take your phone back to stock but I honestly doubt that's the issue here. What radio version are you using? Have you tried flashing different radios to see if that would fix it. You can find a list here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045081. Also what ROM are you currently on?
When you install a ROM, it modifies the /system directory which is responsible for everything, how the rom looks, included apps, drivers etc.
When you do a factory reset, I'm guessing through recovery, it is only clearing the /data and /cache partitions.
You will have to flash a stock RUU to get it to truly go back to the day you got it.
Here are instructions on how to return to stock:

The ROM Ive been on hasnt mattered. Ive jumped through BAMF, the new Cubed Rom, the Deodexed stock debloat and Virus' Airborne(which is my daily driver). Ive done the different radios. I was on the v2 leaked for a while, then I switched to the new 3g and old 4g to see if its worked but it hasnt. I may have to try out the original one and see if that works, but I havent had wifi since before I flashed in the leaked radio when it came out.

Gotcha. Trying this now. I will make sure to make a nandroid this time if it works. lol.
@isdnmatt: Thanks, that got rid of my recovery problem
Still having wifi issue though. 100% out of the box stock and I get the "Unable to scan for networks
**** me, I should have read that before I did it. Now I have to reroot. Goddamnit.
Have had the same problem with WiFi before and after ADB root. It will sometimes forget both my home and work networks. I've found the problem usually occurs when I'm connected then move put of range. A reboot fixes the problem sometimes. Other times I have to re-enter my settings. I'm still on the stock Rom, nothing custom.

Thats a separate issue than what Im having. Im not having issues with it forgetting my networks. I cant scan for networks.
I am thinking of downgrading the radio.
EDIT: after LOTS of research here, I upgraded to MR2 and Gingervitis. All of my WiFi issues are gone.

[Q] WiFi suddenly stopped working

I've tried it all folks. New kernels, factory reset, different radios, different ROMs. Every-thing. The WiFi will turn on for a quick second and I will get an error message "Unable to scan for networks" and then the Wifi will just turn on and off on and off over and over again. I've even deleted the files in the data/dhcp and data/wifi folders. Rebooted, still same issue. I've deleted the files and flashed a kernel and rebooted, still same issue.
Of course I am still in contract and will have to purchase a new phone outright from Verizon if I can't get this issue resolved......
I don't know what else to do here.....
Did you try formatting data and system before installing a new rom from recovery? If that doesn't work i would say its a hardware issue. You're not restoring system data with any backup programs are you?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I've wiped pretty much everything known to man on the phone. The ROM installs are all "fresh" I haven't tried to install any APPS on the phone. Just wipe everything, factory reset / Dalvik Cache, all of it... install fresh ROM. Try to turn on Wifi, phone boot loops. No matter what ROM I install, still same issue with Wifi / boot looping.
Well guess we can close this out. I went out and paid full boat for a Samsung Nexus since I couldn't fix this issue.
I'd like to reopen this topic. I had been running Bamf Forever 1.10, but last night I decided to try another ROM because it's been running really slow for some reason.
Did a wipe (factory reset, Dalvik cache) and installed Thunderstick. Now WiFi is broken -- the exact same problem as described in the original post. I tried flashing a new kernel and new radios, and cannot get WiFi to work.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Will flashing back to stock ROM/unrooting help?
Thanks!
@ajoesq I had the same problem when i installed thunderstick thru boot manager. My wifi stopped and I could get it going on my phone rom. So i booted back into thunderstick and wifi was working. Booted back to hte phone rom then into recovery and then i flashed my phone rom again without wiping or anything (Thunbershed V1.2) and it worked fine. wifi started agian.

Run a logcat when you try to turn wifi on. Put the output on pastebin.com and post the link. This might tell us what the problem is.
I'd make sure that the radio(s) were at least at the minimum of what the ROM called for.

[Q] Can I get 3g with Passion ICS?

So far I like Passion ICS and everything seems to be working wel enough for me except...
... I only get 2g signal now.
My area isn't GREAT but I've always gotten 3G before (and my fiance gets 4g on her phone here).
Any ideas? Is there something I can tweak? I haven't seen anything above edge since I installed it yesterday.
Thanks!
have you tired switching back and forth betwee 2g and 3g. i get 3g signal no problem.
Also how did u get to v8. what did u flash overtop of
I flashed on top of v7. Everything else works fine. I have toggled 2g/3g and still just get edge. I don't do a ton of downloading on my phone so it's not THAT big a deal to me but it'd be nice all the same.
Oh no,
if you don't want to brick your phone,
Odin flash Lindroid and flash V8!!
I know it seems difficult but its not as difficult, follow replies on OP

try switching modem. there are specific modems for ICS. that could solve your issue.

I would advise trying either KA7 ICS modem or JK6 ICS modem found on scrizz's thread here:

i find that flashing instructions are always overstatd and annoying. I usually ONLY experience issues when i follow the Op's flashing instructions
i've flashed everything from cm7,miui, and passion V3-8 straight from jfd 2.1 (yah i always odin in between flashes.) yet i always seem to experience less glitches, bugs are hair pulling annoyances then everyone else.
anyways back on topic. I had a 3g issue back on V5 and no matter what it just wouldn't seem to get out of Edge. it's hit or miss but in settings toggle 2g on then reboot, then switch it to 3g wait a few mins to see if it connects, if not reboot with 3g enabled and just keep repeating toggling and rebooting, give it a few chances 3-5 if by then still no 3g connection consider verifying that the rom download wasn't corrupted during download and/or transferring to the phone.
worse case scenario.
Odin to stock.
(if you have GB bootloaders MAKE sure you odin Froyo bootloaders prior to jfd otherwise you will have a shiny new paperweight)
Flash CWR using an update.zip
Flash Passion V8 (this updates CWR and causes a bootloop)
3 button into CWR
mounts and storage
Format the following
-System
-Cache
-Data
-Data/Data
Advanced
Wipe Dalvik Cache
ok now flash Passion V8 again (this now properly installs the Rom)
Fix Permissions.
ok now the boring part yet the most important
After boot turn off screen and leave the blasted thing alone for 5 minutes
..
..
..
5 minutes up?
Shut down flash GB bootloaders through Odin
Reboot
Complete the 1 time set up (google account wifi etc)
Install apps
try to avoid Titanium restores if you don't have an outrageous amount of applications to restore, never restore system data this includes system App data.
reboot CWR
Clear cache
wipe Dalvik
Fix Permissions Reboot
Play
if you continue to have issues with things like FCing launcher, random reboots you can install these
Launcher2 (either flash with CWR or push into system/apps change permissions to RW-X R-X R-X) reboot clear both dalvik and cache, and fix permissions
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18596484/ICS V8 Launcher Revert.zip
Build.prop based on my GN's 4.0.3 update fixes issues with Dalvik and reboots, reboot after pushing to /system and clear both Cache/dalvik

Data issue (solved)

Ok here is the story.
I got my wife a used phone. I went to activate it and I selected my phone. After activating the used phone at spint.com which deactivate my phone I realized dooh I did the wrong phone I reactivated my phone again. I was running CM 9.0 on my phone which is hboot 1.4. I lost my data but my phone part was working. I installed a stock rooted ROM and called sprint. I had to update my profile. After that I had data back. Ok I'm good now, so I thought. I CM 9.0. Restarted my phone and loaded up CM 9.0. No data again. Pissed I was. I tried to clear my cache a multitude of time and still no data. I reinstalled the.stock root ROM and I have data. Does anyone know what I need to do to get data back on CM 9.0?
Pre thanks.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Did you do a full wipe when re-flashing CM?
try configuring your APN settings in Settings/Mobile Network/APN Settings.
I did a full wipe I will try to configure the APN today.
(EDIT) Well i decided to try now. There is no APN setting under moble network. I checked under stock sense and CM 9.0
Thanks for the replys
Ok here is a little update.
There must be something different in the way ICS stores the phone data that CM doesn't pick up on. Here is what i did.
I decided to install a GB Stock version. After the install I updated my profile again. BTW i had data with the stock GB. I waited about 5 minutes after that to allow the system to settle. After I performed this I decided to restore my CM 9.0 backup. Cleared cache as i did before. Loaded up CM 9.0 and bingo data is back. Not to sure were the issue lies in ICS but will dig into that later. If anyone has an issue similar to mine you can give this a shot to see if it clears up your issue.
Thanks again for reply

SIM cantread after Nandroid backup :(

Hi guys,
I wonder if someone can help me with this... really annoying problem!
I was checking out various roms i downloaded here, started with 4.0 aokp which was great, then gave cyanogen 4.2 a try, but then i wanted to go back to Aokp 4.0 cause it seemed to run faster
Now first thing, i couldnt get rid of cyanogen (no offense intended) cause when i wiped all data, cache and dalvik it just took aokp a few seconds to install from CWM recov, that doesnt seem right, right?
Then installed GAPPS, but still it ran on Cyanogen
So, i did a NANDROID backup, which made my phone like before i started with all this..
THIS IS WHERE IT WENT WRONG?
now it just wont read my simcard
i tried my sim in my old phone and that works fine, so the problem is in my phone somehow
is it something about the radio settings specific to my phone and network?
how can i change these settings and are they specific for my provider?
you guys always helped me out so i hope you know what i mean..

I've exactly the same problem.
Are your wifi and BT still OK ?
Is your IMEI (*#06#) still the same as under the battery ?
Was your phone locked ? Did you buy it with a SIM ?
My problem appeared after flashing several different modems/RILS : I got no error warning anywhere, but after reboot, I completely lost my netwerk connection. (no voice calls , no mobile data)
At first I thought a bad RIL driver, so I restored my Nandroid backup from the day before (after wipe cache/wipe dalvik/format system), but still no connection with the netwerk. and can't even make voice calls.
Then I was in panic !
After this I did a complete factory reset, and wiped/formatted cache/dalvik/system/data/SD-card and went in to download mode. After loading a stock ELLA for my region using Odin, still no connection. I was also never asked to enter the PIN-code for my SIM to unlock it.
Damned, this is an embarrassing situation : I can't think of loosing my SG3 for several weeks if I have to send it to Samsung !!
Mu phone is bought without SIM, so it's not SIM-locked.
My Wifi and BT are still OK, my IMEI is also still OK.
Any other ideas, please ?
How do I come in the service mode for the Radio ?
This is the way my netwerk is indicated : a circle with a stripe, much like the famous traffic sign.
Its fixed
So i have no idea how it eventually got fixed but if someone else has this problem, heres what i did:
Full wipe/factory reset blablabla all that
Did Nandroid restore again, put the AOKP ROM and GAPPS back on my phone
Installed ROM which was I9300CEDLI1
Used Odin to install latest CWM, which was already on there, but still
Then booted into CWM and installed .zip of course
This still went suspiciously fast since the very first time it took way longer, that worried me but,
Installed GAPPS again,
Rebooted... IT ASKED FOR MY PIN NUMBER!! hell yes that was what i wanted!
So now it again sees my simcard in there, so now i can make calls end use intnet again!
Still i think it started after the nandroid backup for some reason, or it may have been because of wiping Dalvik Cache?
I have no idea if that even makes sense

Good to hear your problem is fixed !
I'm still not able to make voice calls or enable mobile data : "insert SIM card" is the message I get.
I did already twice a full reset/factory restore and flash a stock ROM using PC Odin, but no avail.
Today I did a restore from my EFS folder using a backup that a had made before the problem appeared, but no avail.
BTW, did you also have the same indication from network status as on my screen-shot ?
Any idea what else I can try ?
I'm getting desperate .....
I'm having the same trouble after doing backup in TWRP when boot up it doesn't recognize the sim card.
I've flash CM10.1 and it only work after i remove the card e put it back on.
Try to see if it something about the simcard.

Rui
