[Q] Im looking for SMS/Facebook Chat/ WLM Integration app - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone who used Windows Phone 7 probably seen the way default Text Messeging app integrates with Facebook and WLM
is tere something like that for Android ?
an app tha would work with your contact list, if you want to send a message to a contact it would tell you if person is Online on Facebook or WLM if not then send a text.
or Show if a contact availible on FB or WLM in Text Messaging app
""WP 7 Mango exclusively introduces a new thread system which merges SMS, Windows Live Messenger and Facebook systems into a single messaging thread. Moreover, you can switch back and forth between accounts with messages displayed for all these systems in a single view with an ease of your mind.""
Screenshot of WP7 Messaging is attached, note the "Miles Reid is availible on IM" on the screenshot

Group SMS
Description:
As most Windows Mobile devices lack the functionallity to send the same SMS to a group of contacts i decided to make this small application. It can be started from the Start menu or by the right menu in the messaging application.

Sending sms to favourites

HI
Not long had my X10i, and so far very impressed. However, Im trying to find out how to send a text message to my favourites. I run a football prediction league, and have 13 members. On my old samsung phone, i was able to type one sms and send to my 'group' of 13 contacts.
I have sorted my favourites out, but cant send an sms to them all at once?
How do i do it?
Thanks.
not sure that you can send it to a full distribution list
the only way is to select one then click left button to add more contacts you have to do that each time

Download the app Handcent, and use it as your messenger service.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
i think after sending first sms with all 13 contacts (manuell added recipients), you will automaticly create an entry in your sms list, with a group u looking for.
1. new message
1.1. add recipient
1.2. menu key --> add recipient
1.3. menu key --> add recipient
..
1.13 menu key --> add recipient
2. type text
3. send sms
after this you schould create a groupe entry in your sms list. now you can use this to send further sms to your football group.

[Q] SMS Popup

I have been using "SMS popup" on my android phones for years now. Never had a problem until I installed it on this new Rezound. The SMS popup comes up when a new text comes in, it just doesnt pull up the person's profile photo as it's supposed to. It's got to be an HTC/Sense issue. I've used SMS popup on AOSP, Samsung Touchwiz, and Team Hacksung's ICS port for the Galaxy S; all of which funtioned properly.
I know I can get handcent but I really like the way this HTC messaging app looks (and its ad-free, unlike handcent). And SMS popup is such a simple way to accomplish the popup on incoming texts and still allow me to use the manufacturer's messaging app.
Has anybody else run into this problem or have any suggestions?
Thanks!
Do you have your contacts linked? Maybe it doesn't know which one to grab...
Alternatively go with Go SMS which is free and does pop up.

Some contacts are linked, some arent. Either way, neither contact photos shows up.
The way my contacts are set up is, I have a google gmail contacts. None of those have any photos in them. Then I also let facebook sync my friends list to my contact list. Some facebook friends also have a google gmail contact equivalent. Those are the ones that are linked.
This is the same way I've always done my contacts on all my other android phones and it's never been a problem. This HTC phone is the first time I've ran across this problem. It's like the SMS popup is calling for a contact photo, but the HTC version of the contact app is calling it by a different name.
Weird, SMS popup works just fine for me pulling up the contact pic using sense etc (innefilibis ROM if that matters)
By the way, I used Handcent for years (with the ads blocked) but this is the first phone I like the stock SMS so much (with red theme bubbles) I didn't even bother installing it.

Can we restrict the SMS app to show only contacts with mobile numbers?

I have several contacts with several phone numbers between mobile, home, office, work, fax, etc... whenever I want to send a text to any of those contacts and i type their name in the To: field, it lists all their numbers every time and i have to scroll down and select the mobile number.
this doesn't happen in windows phone, where the sms app only lists the contact's mobile number, and it only shows you the contact's numbers twice if the contact has more than one mobile number.
also, in windows phone you can create a group of contacts and then you can send a text to the entire group and it knows to select only their mobile numbers and you can do this from the sms app by typing the group name in the To: field. I have tried creating groups on the Note, but when i have tried to text that group typing the name of a group on the To: field does nothing, it is as if it didn't exist.
And don't get me started on not having group sms like in iphone and windows phone.... does anyone know how to enable this feature without having to install a new app for a new service and either getting a new number for that service or having to get your contacts on that service (whatsapp or skype or kik or any of those) i want to send group messages from my phone, like i could do with my windows phone and my friend do with their iphones...

You can turn off the notifications for stock SMS and make go or handcent default.

Which one do you recommend between the two?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
I remembered what was the other reason I didn't line go SMS, it didn't keep the unread messages count visible like the stock SMS app does...

So, going third-party is still the only way to restrict/view only mobile numbers? (GS3 v4.1.2)

Facebook Messenger app vs. native messaging within Facebook app

What is the advantage of using the Facebook Messenger app if messages can be sent by using the Facebook app directly?
To reply to a message:
Using Facebook app:
Click on notification in notification menu
Type message
Using Messenger app:
Click on notification in notification menu or click on contact bubble
Type message
To type a new message:
Using Facebook app:
Open Facebook app
Click on Message icon
Click compose
Type recipient
Type message
Using Messenger app:
Open Messenger app
Click compose
Type recipient
Type message
So the Messenger app only saves you ONE step (i.e., clicking on the Message icon) in comparison to the Facebook app, in terms of writing a new message. The time saved is negligible.
The only other feature of the Messenger app that I see is that it can send messages to people in your contact list, whether or not they have Facebook, by sending an SMS instead. So it will prefer a Facebook message, but fallback on SMS.
Is there any other advantage of using the Messenger app?

They did, and then they brought it back, probably due in large part to the outcry that ensued.

where did you see that?cant find anything confirming that...Even in this thread there are guys using the re enabler for facebook chat ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-facebook-chat-enabler-t2934179 )
Why would it be necessary to have an enabler if they brought back chat on the main app?
I dont use facebook app and have no way to confirm it right now, but as far as i know, messenger is needed to chat
EDIT: Ok, just tried it, facebook app does not allow chatting. redirects to download messenger. You are probably using the enabler i mentioned earlier.

You are absolutely right, I noticed the interfaces were different between messaging in FB and messaging in the Messenger app, and I wrongly assumed they were independent. However, after disabling Messenger I see that FB messaging doesn't work in the native app, requiring Messenger to be re-enabled.
This essentially renders my question moot. Thanks for the clarification.
