[Q] Running Alternate launchers from PC - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello experts,
I have a question, and have done some reading, but can't find the answer I hope to hear. I know that I can run some emulators that run Android on the PC, but what I haven't heard is if I can run an alternate launcher on the PC.
what I want to do is run SSLauncher the Original on my PC so that I can easily create the screens I want. Make my modifications from the comfort of my desk using keyboard and mouse instead of my phone. And then maybe take that and install to my phone. If not, at least I would know how to make it and the steps would be alot quicker doing it right before hand.
So, is this something I can do, and if so, how? Thanks in advance for all the help guys and gals!

ANyone out there got any pointers about this?

[Q] "live" wallpapers

I have been poking around trying to see if you can create animiated/live wallpapers for Windows Mobile like they have for Android. However I haven't been able to find anything solid. I found some stuff about Manilia 2.6 but couldn't see any way to develop for it. Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction on this?
Thank you in advance

[Q] Suggestions for surviving nooberty

I am extremely new to the world of smartphones and shell commands and tar files, etc. I'm looking for recommendations of websites, online videos, anything like that to learn as much a possible about not only Android but also writing scripts and knowing what the difference is between ROM and RAM and why it's called a kernel, writing code, stuff like that. I made a pretty cool weather app with Tasker and Zoom that I get a generic xml weather report for that is suppose to come from a soap request but I can't figure out how to generate one. I downloaded nusoap to my phone but can't figure out how to install it using Android terminal emulator. Is there an alternative to T.E. I could use? It constantly telling me "permission denied" is very frustrating. Currently no computer so please make sure any advice is phone friendly. And any help with terminal emulator would be beyond great. But please keep it as simple as possible and pretend I'm 4 years old. I'm not kidding. Sorry this is sooooo long, it's my first post and this is about a quarter of what I wanted to ask. Thank you very much in advance.
The only help I can give you is don't be afraid to search google. Out of 7 billion people, atleast 1 other person would have had the same problem
For me was pretty simple: get to know your phone (use the subforuns to find yours) > get to know android on your phone > start experimenting.
And read, read, read!

Noob Needing App Making Help!

Hey guys. I'm a complete beginner/noob when it comes to Android development. After trying and failing to modify some gun apps in Ninjamorph (They all FC'd ) to my liking, I decided I REALLY should learn how to make my own app of this sort. I could more then easily get all the required .ogg and .png files needed to make the app, but I have no clue HOW to make it, or WHERE to start. I would mostly like to make a simple gun app, and if possible, add an Augmented Reality/ Camera based Iron Sight add on if I could. But I simply do not know where to start; what I need; What I have to do to get it starting though I'm more than ready to learn. I have decent computer knowledge and such and am very eager to learn how to produce an app like this. If anyone could help with some instrcution, preferably beginner friendly, it would be much, MUCH appreciated.
Thanks in advance, guys!

[Q] Start Theming without Device

Hey guys/girls! ;D
For the past few months, I've wanted to theme Android devices. Not just create a theme, but fully customise a ROM; so that a user can install a different ROM; since my customisations will run deep.
My first theme is to port perfectly the TouchWiz UX, since for some devices a "perfect" port does not exist. However the problem is that I don't have that specific device. So I'm stuck, and have been looking for ways around this; but no luck sink decided to ask this question to you guys/girls; whom are experts in this area.
Would it be possible for me to customise a device without actually owning the device? Can I not just use the SDK to view my development? If so, would it also be possible to customise a pre-packaged ROM? For example, develop/theme on top of CyanogenMod; and still view my customisations as I debug them on my computer, still without the device?
Or am I put of hopes? Do I need the device?
Sorry for so many questions, and for a long post. I sincerely appreciate your help. Thank you very much.
EDIT (15/10/2013): If anyone is also interested in an answer to this question (even if you're seeing this years ahead), feel free to post here to bump the thread.

[Q] Too Big a Challenge for a Beginner?

I've just started to learn how to program for android.
I'm really interested in designing my own launcher. Is this going to be to hard for me?
If so what programs could I write that would give me the experience I need to eventually write a launcher?
Another program Idea I've had involved tasker integration. Is this idea also going to be to hard for me?
Thanks in Advance for any help or advice given.
